Touch Attacks

Question: What's the formula for determining your touch attacks? I looked and could not find it. Do you use Dex, or Str, when doing a normal melee touch attack?

Unrelated, any advice on feats for a 1st level Cleric? I can't really seem to decide on anything.

EDIT: Duh- I didn't notice this was a Pathfinder thread...I may still be suffering from Touch of Idiocy.

When doing a melee touch attack, you use Str as your modifying stat. When you're doing a ranged touch attack, you use Dex.

For 1st level Clerics...

1) I like Reach Spell. You'll be able to use your buffs- Healing spells included- at range. Make sure you have some kind of good Dex bonus to ensure you hit your intended target, though. It won't have much use for a 1st level Cleric, but by the time you're 3rd level, you may find yourself using it a LOT.

2) with any kind of elemental spells (esp. Fire), I like Elemental Substitution.

3) depending upon the campaign, Extra Turning may be invaluable.

4) with a warrior feel, any typical fighter feat they qualify for will be useful. Sword & Board types benefit from Imp. Shield Bash and 2wf, for instance. A Cleric with a nice weapon from the War domain might want WeapFocus or Power attack.

5) Some of the Reserve feats work well. For instance, if you intend to be a summoning specialist of some kind, several of those feats provide bonuses to the creatures you summon. Not all of them are open to low-level PCs, though.

actjually, Danny A., pathfinder still has many things in commen with 3.5. So, if you un slash y0ur p[ost, there may be good information there to be read more easily, the feat extra turning is still good thing to have as a priest in pathfinder. very good to be honest.

ps: forgive any bad typing as i just didi something stupid: I rubbed my eyes after cutting some Jalaino peppers. so i cannot see all that well right now

rofl, in pain

I know it has some stuff in common with 3.X- that's why I slashed the post rather than eliminate it completely.

I just don't know what the commonalities are.

It shouldn't be all that different than in 3.5. If it's a range touch attack, you would use dex. For melee touch, you would normally use strength. I'm not sure if weapon finesse can be applied to touch spells. The Pathfinder feat says natural weapons count as light weapons so perhaps you could. Touch AC is described on page 131 and there is some discussion on touch attacks a few pages after that in the Beta Rules.

Clerics in our Pathfinder games seem to always be taking "selective channeling" so I'd take a look at that. It's sometimes nice to be able to avoid healing the "bad guys" when channeling energy.
