Maybe we need to design a Buddy Christ or something, but... I seem to remember a lot more spectators and random people stopping by to comment on the contest...now, besides contestants, there is....1 spectator? It just seems...odd and ghost-y. Any ideas? I want to try to keep more of these running, and I think its a lot more fun with interactive dialogue going on...
Next time we can make it more of an event. Let it garner interest for weeks...perhaps get it stickied...or a NEWS link. This one kinda form all-of-a-sudden out of a question thread. Have a draft for judges with a voting poll and then let as many entrants enter as are interested. I understand the want and need to keep it small and manageable...but if your goal is interaction it has to be more accessible. As it is now it is more like a club.
I remember more spectators before too... I think it's just been so long since there's been a CDM that a lot of people don't know about it or even know what it is... I agree, once the suggestion was made, kablam, there was a competition. I think if it starts happening more often, it will be more inclusive again.

No spectators anymore? It's because kids don't read anymore... just kidding. I do think that many people just go to the PbP or media threads. Not everyone goes to the General Forum, and those that do may be afraid that our thread is a private party.
I haven't spent much time on this site in the past couple of years - is there a way to "advertise" that the CDM thread is an open thread? Is there a way to help non-participants feel more included? Like maybe a vote or something?
Yeah, been thinking about this, and I think advertising is the answer - a couple threads dedicated to educating the masses about the competition maybe, and add something to the contest thread title to impress that spectators are welcome. Something like that...Maybe plan next competition for June and have some lead up to it to get people excited. Maybe an automatic dice-roller to determine who gets in if there are too many applicants?

perhaps part of the solution, as I suggested early on, would be two threads, one for the contest and one for comments on the contest. there may be a level of intimidation going on with observers not wanting to post in a "closed" group setting. just an observation.
