Remember that new Drizzt trilogy which appeared in online bookstore listings last week? Nerdist has got a preview of the cover of Timeless, the first in the trilogy!

Hello everyone, Darryl here with this week’s gaming news. Big new product announcements and reprints from Wizards of the Coast, an Old Spice-based character class, a Warhammer 40K café is coming soon, the game industry mourns the passing of an award-winning artist, and more.

There's a new Drizzt Do'Urden trilogy on its way! Timeless, by R.A. Salvatore, will be released as a 432-page hardcover on 18th September for $27.99 as the start of a new trilogy set in Menzoberranzan, the Underdark city of the Drow.

Fantasy is now much more mainstream, so it's easy to forget how influential the debut of the Harry Potter franchise was on the genre. And yet despite the blockbuster success of the franchise we never got an official Harry Potter tabletop role-playing game -- for Dungeons & Dragons or any other system.

There are many works of fiction that D&D draws upon for inspiration, as co-creator Gary Gygax made clear with his Appendix N in the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons Dungeon Master's Guide. Jon Peterson identified a theme that some of the Appendix N fiction has in common, known as a "visitation theme." It serves as a useful template for how D&D is portrayed -- now and in the future.

Green Ronin has posted its plans for the first half of 2018, which include The Expanse RPG, being Kickstarted in a few months, Modern Age in the Spring, along with the World of Lazarus setting, a new edition of Freedom City for Mutants & Masterminds, and more!

Welcome back to our weekly look at tabletop roleplaying game crowdfunding campaigns! This week brings us a film noir RPG from a first time designer, the twenty-fourth installment of a 5th Edition adventure series from someone who's certainly not a first timer, a 5th Ed/Pathfinder setting, a d20/3.5 setting and a superpowered fiction anthology! Oh, and also my own latest campaign... If you have anything you’d like us to cover, or questions about anything we talk about, please don’t hesitate to leave a comment or contact me directly.

Hello everyone, Darryl here with this week’s gaming news! This week’s column was delayed a day for a variety of reasons, including my mother having surgery (she’s okay), so I want to focus on some good news (and a lot of segues) before we get to the…fourth week in a row where I have to write about something bad. The Last Unicorn is getting a roleplaying game! A new Wizards of the Coast job posting may give hints for D&D’s future! Lots of news about movies, television, and games! And more!

This week, I chose another great writer and creator to spotlight, this time the incomparable Monica Valentinelli. Writer, designer, editor, line developer, and advocate for inclusivity and the creation of art across multiple media, Monica is a friend and an inspiration to me. She's also a lot of fun to hang out with, and enhances the entire hobby with all she does.

Hello everyone, Darryl here with this week’s gaming news! An early preview season for M:TG due to a theft, a new Shadowrun video game may be on the horizon, BattleTech gets a YA fiction series, an updated Empyrea announcement, and more!

Green Ronin have announced they have signed a licensing agreement with James S. A. Corey to adapt The Expanse series of novels as a tabletop roleplaying game. The Expanse series is one of the best sci-fi series of novels and novellas around at present and is currently also on TV screens worldwide as a hit TV series.

Recent struggles with Marvel's comics brand have made it clear that Marvel's properties are more valuable to as a multimedia franchise than the comics that spawned them. Could that happen with Hasbro and the Dungeons & Dragons brand?

The unstoppable franchise that is Star Wars is back in the headlines thanks to the blockbuster success of Rogue One, a film that delves into the sci-fi epic's detailed backstory. It's easy to forget that when Disney acquired the Star Wars license and redefined what was canon, the company declared that the tabletop role-playing game was an integral part of defining the universe.

Hello everyone, Darryl here with this week's gaming news. The TV series based on Patrick Rothfuss's Kingkiller Chronicles has a new showrunner and it's a former game designer, Mutants and Masterminds has a new lead developer, Warhammer 40K leans Friendship is Magic, Cards Against Humanity sued over a Trump-based clone game for intellectual property issues, your 2017 Gaming Convention map, and big changes to Star Trek Attack Wing!

This past week, kicked off as it was by Cyber Monday, gave me the inspiration to do a Cyber-Week, celebrating all-things-cyberpunk in RPGs. That means Shadowrun, of course, but there's quite an array of things for your perusal across the spectrum of games and systems for this ironically venerable genre. Please note that the daily Sean's Pick of the Day has returned to its original site, though the Picks of the Week will continue here on E.N. World.

A rundown of the New Releases that should be hitting games stores this coming week! Board games, card games, RPGs, and a host of collectible games (Cards, Dice & Miniatures!)... hopefully something for everyone! For more information about any of the products please contact your local games store.

A couple of new non-rules Dungeons & Dragons books are being released later this year. A Monsters & Heroes of the Realms Colouring Book, and a book from Forgotten Realms travel guide Volo in a book called Dungeonology. The former is expected in September, and the latter in November. They've being produced by Kings Road Publishing, who have signed a global deal with Hasbro UK and WotC (this the GBP prices below). (thanks to Mike for the scoop).

This article from Dragon Magazine, back in 1977, is likely very familiar to many of you (feel free to yawn - this item isn't for you!) However, there are many newer fans of D&D who don't even remember Dragon Magazine, let alone issues from nearly 40 years ago. In the article, Bill Seligman posits that Gandalf was merely a 5th level magic-user. Given Cubicle 7's recent announcement about an official Middle Earth setting for D&D, it seems like a nostalgia piece worth revisiting.

Starting tomorrow morning (Tuesday, March 4th) through Thursday noon, Bruce Cordell will be holding an Ask Me Anything (AMA) right here at EN World. Bruce is a game designer who has worked on Dungeons & Dragons since the 1990s, and more recently as part of Monte Cook Games on titles like The Strange. He is known for The Gates of Firestorm Peak (1996), Die Vecna Die! (2000), Returns to both The Tomb of Horrors and White Plume Mountain, and The Sunless Citadel. Not only that, he is a multiple ENnies winner, and co-creator of The Strange, a Cypher System roleplaying game from Monte Cook Games. Note that this is the announcement post only; I have closed comments on this post - head on over to the actual AMA thread to Ask Bruce Anything!

Long time EN World member Sagiro (Dorian Hart in real life) told adventurous tales of his D&D campaign for over a decade in the Story Hour forum. Now, at long last, and at the urging of his forum readers, he has finished the first novel based on that campaign. It is called The Ventifact Colossus, and is available for sale on Amazon in both e-book and trade paperback formats. From Dorian's website: "The Ventifact Colossus is a new fantasy novel that chronicles the story of a hodgepodge team of would-be heroes, as they set out to save the world from a variety of absurdly dangerous threats. If you’re a fan of fantasy epics with flawed but likable characters, daring swordplay, high magic, terrible monsters, powerful but mysterious artifacts, intriguing mysteries that will all be explained by the end of the series, and villains with excellent mustaches, then you will surely enjoy The Ventifact Colossus: Book One of The Heroes of Spira." Want a preview? Dorian has provided EN World readers with the entire first chapter!
