Just about anything can spark a campaign idea in my brain. Over the last few weeks I have been talking about approaching GMing and game prep. As someone who primarily GMs, and as many of you who GM probably have the same troubles, I am usually have more ideas for campaigns than I will actually even need. One of the nice side effects of social media is that I can post these things that I know that I will never be able to use, and either spark some interesting discussions or maybe give some other people some ideas for games that they can then run for their own groups. It ends up being a win/win situation and these ideas don't end up stewing away in the back of my head, or in a notebook, to end up eventually fading away to be replaced by something else.

Recent struggles with Marvel's comics brand have made it clear that Marvel's properties are more valuable to as a multimedia franchise than the comics that spawned them. Could that happen with Hasbro and the Dungeons & Dragons brand?

Hello everyone, Darryl here with a LOT of Starfinder updates, Fantasy Grounds gets official Pathfinder content (retroactively winning me an online argument), a new graphic novel on the origins of Dungeons & Dragons, details on the new life for GURPS books, and more!

For those who are interested in the history of Dungeons & Dragons, this graphic novel tells the story of Gary Gygax, co-creator of the game. By David Kushner, incorporating information from interviews with both Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson, and will be available on May 9th. I haven't seen it myself (I'm pre-ordering it though). "Rise of the Dungeon Master tells, in graphic form, the story of Gary Gygax, co-creator of Dungeons & Dragons, one of the most influential games ever made. Like the game itself, the narrative casts the reader into the adventure from a first person point of view, taking on the roles of the different characters in the story."

A month has come and gone, and it is time now for the second issue of Dynamite Entertainment's crossover comic Pathfinder: Worldscape. In this issue we see Seoni, iconic Pathfinder sorcerer, being brought to the Battleworld…um…Worldscape.

We previously discussed the negative influence of a doctor on Dungeons & Dragons--Dr. Thomas Radecki, who used court cases to advocate that D&D was dangerous to society. But there is another, fictional doctor who strongly influenced D&D spells and magic items and who is now experiencing a resurgence thanks to a Marvel movie: Doctor Strange.

The controversial figure Jack Chick, who published a range of comic books known popularly as "Chick tracts", which attacked a number of activities including Dungeons & Dragons, has passed away. His Dark Dungeons tract was released in 1984 and is often linked to the 1980s paranoia about Satanism and other elements suggested to be part of tabletop roleplaying games. A movie version of that particular tract was also made by JR Ralls.

Hello everyone, Darryl here with this week’s batch of gaming news. Volo’s Guide to Monsters has a lot of new previews out, Hasbro announces its own convention, Pathfinder is crossing over with everyone in a new comic, DC Comics Deckbuilding is going Rogue, a rash of petty crime has struck the industry over the past days, and more!

Today we are going to talk a little bit about comics. Since 2012 Dynamite Entertainment have been producing licensed Pathfinder Role-Playing Game comics using the Golarion setting and the iconic characters from the Pathfinder game books. Tomorrow, with the debut of the Pathfinder: Worldscape comic written by Paizo Publishing Publisher Erik Mona, the Pathfinder setting is brought to the center of a fantasy cross-over unlike any other.

These pages, kindly sent along by Worldscape writer (and Paizo publisher) Erik Mona come straight from this month's upcoming Pathfinder Worldscape comic book - the genre mashing series which will have Pathfinder characters meeting pulp heroes such as Red Sonja, Tarzan, John Carter and more (complete with game stats!) Erik tells me that this page show "Valeros’s encounter with a White Ape of Barsoom as well as the first comics appearance of the lamia matriarch Xanesha, the Rise of the Runelords NPC responsible for more Pathfinder PC deaths than probably anyone else." You will be able to get the first issue on Wednesday, 19th October.

My kids are now old enough to visit cons and participate, so we decided to give Terrificon a try this past weekend. We were not disappointed.

Sorry for the delay getting this up today, folks. I am still recovering from something nasty that took me down hard on Tuesday and Wednesday (which, by the way, is why there is no Wednesday Pick for this week, as well). On top of all that, a certain something is coming to fruition, which as you might imagine, has me hopping at a high gear as well. I am feeling much better, but that means I am going double-time to catch up and then keep up, so as always, your kind patience and support are greatly appreciated. In the immortal words of Mr. Kasem, "and now, on with the countdown."
