While at Gen Con, I had the opportunity to briefly meet with James Sutter, the Creative Director for the new Starfinder game from Paizo Publishing, as well as the co-creator of the Pathfinder role-playing game. We met in the first hour of the con, before Starfinder sold out, when the press of bodies at the convention was trying to get to the Paizo booth and grab their copies of the game. Moving along the line of people waiting to pay for their copies was Sutter, moving along the line with a pen in hand to sign the copies of anyone who wanted a signature. He talked with everyone, and laughed with many.

Despite bringing more copies of the Starfinder core rulebook to Gen Con than any other single product before, Paizo has sold out of them after just one day. Luckily, as they say, copies are out there at local game stores.

Paizo is busy setting up its booth at Gen Con in Indianapolis - and that means a LOT of Starfinder hardcovers. This picture is courtesy of Paizo's James Sutter.

Starfinder is here, and it is everything that you would expect from a science fantasy hack of Paizo's popular Pathfinder rules. Paizo dropped the embargo on reviews of the game early, so we're going to talk some about the Starfinder game and share some early thoughts on it. The game is an evolution of everything that you've seen to date in the Pathfinder line, cleaned up and consolidated with a cool science fantasy paint job.

DragonWing Games was founded back in 2002 by Steve Creech and with the tagline “Your game, your imagination. We give you the tools.” has been producing games ever since. This last week however has seen not one, not two but THREE announcements come from the studio covering Fantasy Craft, Starfinder and Oathbound: The Forge. See below for more details…

This past weekend was Free RPG Day, the red-headed step child of Free Comic Book Day, where gamers descend upon shops for free SWAG. This year I spent part of the day at a local gaming store, Serenity Games, running a Fate Accelerated game for a busy table, connecting with some friends that I don't get to see often enough, talking about future events and meeting new people. I picked up a few of the items available (the store is much more generous about how much people can pick up than a lot of stores).

With the game's release fast approaching, Starfinder previews are streaming by at a rapid rate. Below is a list of the most recent ones, including archetypes, the gods of secrets, first contact, and evolution, nine character themes, information about compatibility between Starfinder and Pathfinder, a lot at a few major changes between the two rulesets, some details about how guns work, and the full video of the Starfinder premiere game event a few days ago, where you can watch a live game being played.

Every good sci-fi universe can benefit from the excitement and danger that comes when mighty starships clash in the void of space, and Paizo’s new Starfinder system has seized this with both hands – and possibly a few tentacles. In the same way that most fantasy RPGs assume that the players will explore the game world, the idea of space travel is baked into the game from the ground up. Unless things go seriously wrong, most parties will have access to a starship that acts as a combination of home base, personal transport and weapons platform.

This artwork will be appearing on Paizo's Starfinder GM screen. The screen will be 4-panels, filled with rules, tables, and other important information. But for the moment, let's just look at this ridiculously awesome art by Ignacio Bazán Lazcano on the player's side of it.
