Kamotz shifter heritage gets the better of him, and without thinking he springs after the street urchins!
Darting through the crowd like a wolf between trees for his prey. Letting his height help him to keep track of where they are going.
Identifying the leader of the group, and doggedly pursuing them.
Barely noticing if Mikara had the same instinct, Kamotz does his best to tackle one of the Street Urchins, and bring him back as a gift to the pack.
As she moved, he slipped around to where it seemed likely should would go if she tried to run, trying to anticipate her next action. Was she upset with herself, or afraid of this Dennis?
Magnus
"Tee hee... she didn't expect to say so much... you see, you see? What are we not to see... not to see? What is she trying to hi-dee?"
"I don't think she was supposed to talk about this 'Dennis'. And why can't you be more like that half-elf, you doddering coot? Why must I be stuck in a head that's allergic to soap?"
"Leave off, my faithful servant..."
"What will you do to me, you moldy and forgotten g..."
"ENOUGH!!!"

Kamotz taps into his feral nature, and successfully brings down the lead urchin, kicking & screaming. The others of his group dart away into the crowd, and are soon lost to pursuit. "Lemme go... lemme go, You...", the young boy continues to struggle against your grip (and also picks something out of your pocket in the process).
Fortunately, you brought him down in a side alley... because you realize that he would have drawn a lot of attention out in the open street. With the commotion he would generate, you suddenly ask yourself... do I really want to drag this kid back to the pack?

Quite, you'll bring watchmen. Neither of us want that. You have information, and I have rewards. I have no reason to trouble you and could possibly provide you with a whole new way of life. I'm going to give you a choice...
Kamotz fishes into his pocket for a Silver piece and a Gold Piece.
Waving the currency to keep the kids attention.
I like games of chance, and I've got a great judge of character, unfortunately I'm not very bright... You on the other hand look like a smart lad.
I'm going to ask three questions, and give you a choice. For every time your honest, I'll give you a shiny silver.
When we are all done, I'll give you the choice to come with me, and be in my protection, or to go on your way.
Answer all three questions honestly and I'll give you a gold piece on top of the silvers. Answer me dishonestly, and I'll decide what punishment you'll receive.
I won't hurt you physically no matter what happens though. So relax, you're in no danger.
Kamotz stares hard at the kid, judging his understanding of the game. First question: Whom do you report to, and what do you report.
Second question: Where can I find Gwendolyn?
Last question: Have you lied to me?
Kamotz listens intently and judges each word carefully as possible, looking for the ticks of a liar.
If the kid lies
Kamotz holds him down and searches his pockets pulling things out and gauging the Urchins reaction, when he finds something particularly dear to the child he pockets it, and leaves the rest as he walks away from the kid. Kamotz leaves him only the three silver for the questions.
if the kid tells the truth
Kamotz pays the kid three silver and one gold. He offers the kid protective company, and if the kid refuses, asks that he deliver some false information. He won't pay any more for that delivery, but upon successful use of the deceptive information, he offers to pay five gold. (only if it gives his pack the drop on their true quarry.)
Kamotz spots the pocket pick (woo hoo, nat20 on perception), and retrieves his money before making his offer. Once the kid realizes that he's caught... without back-up... and lost the income from the stolen pouch... he brushes himself off, and becomes quite shrewdly compliant.
"Well, mister... I's jus a member of the 'Poe Eyes'... we keep an eye on the streets, an' report to one a the 'Red Boots' if'n we see anythin' wrong." He pauses to scratch his nose with a grubby finger, and look you straight in the eye, "I's jus' goin' to report that ther's a non-guilder tryin' ta take coin on the waterfront... then ya jumped me... I would'n'a tried robbin' ya if'n ya had'n'a jumped me. We're not supposa steal from honest folk, but you'sa jumped me so you don' count..."
You get him back on track with your next question, but he is honestly confused & has no idea who you're talking about. With your last question he just responds, "Honest, Mister... I wouldn' lie... we's paid to be honest, an' you's payin'." The kid takes his money with a grin, refuses any further help or protection... and darts back out into the waterfront crowd.
Kamotz
As far is you can tell, the kid was being upfront... any questions about the ways of "the street" can probably be cleared up by Morvannon.
If you wanted to spread false info, just let me know what it was... and as long as its within reason the kids out doing it as we 'speak'

well that'll avoid some mess for a small amount of coin...
I would like to arrange a meeting with one of your friends in the Red Boots, tell them I offer service, and request service. Let them know there is gold in it.
I'll keep paying you to do what your good at, staying honest. Can't bring myself to muck up such a nice system as that... Let them know we aren't trying to turn a profit, the non-guild folks are trying to smoke out a rat. Don't let anyone know that but the ones in the Red Boots...
I'm Kamotz
The Shifter extends a furry hand and smiles, it's nice to meet such a fine young man. May I ask your name for when we meet again?
Kamotz tips the kid another 3 gold pieces to deliver the honest information, "less than five because it's less than dangerous." if the kid asks.
Satisfied that he has made a great little acquaintance he heads back to his pack, and relates what has transpired to those present.

Reason: to update Kamotz whereabouts.
Tristan watches quietly as Mikara sketches. Morvannon's and Magnus's exits are noticed, but he remains in place. Kamotz's sudden departure is met with a little more surprise. He briefly considers following the shifter, but is unwilling to abandon Mikara in case their plan succeeds in attracting possibly unfriendly attention.
He takes seat near her as if posing for a portrait and passes over a few coins to sell the charade.
Kamotz's return leads to some interesting developments.
"Well, we may find ourselves with more company soon enough. Whether it will be a friendly gathering remains to be seen, I expect. Perhaps I should make myself scarce. The less present for the meeting, the less threatening it may seem. I would remain in the area, of course, but not conspicuously part of the meeting."

When you pass your message to the boy, he responds with a smile "Oh, they'll be findin' you afore long... wher'dya think my friends went... but I'll let'em know wha'cha said." He shakes your hand, and let's you know his name is "Pez" before he departs.

"We seem to have lost the majority of our companions. I suppose the fewer of us present, the more likely our competition is to show."
A few minutes after all your companions went off to pursue their leads, a rather short human male (wearing red boots, of all things) approaches your little "booth". He looks slightly thuggish, but is surprisingly polite for all his armament and appearances. "Excuse me, Ma'am... Sir..." he pauses briefly to insure he has your attention, "I'll have to ask you to desist from your present activities, as you haven't been cleared by the 'Goghs'... the street artists' guild, to perform your trade in this region."

What with Morvannon's abysmal Insight roll, I don't think he really noticed the artist's reaction.
"Vinnie! That's right, that was the name. *Thank* you! You wouldn't happen to know where I could find him, do you? Or would this Dennis know, maybe? I've got a line on a decent commission I could send his way..."
Finally noticing her pale countenance, Morvannon stumbles a bit on his next words.
"...erm...are...are you all right there, miss?"
OOC
Perception check to see if Morvannon notices anything about the artwork she's trying to move in front of (I think we're probably far enough away from Mikara that we're not getting the bonus): 8. Not too perceptive, this boy.
Mikara looks up politely at the man in red boots, and puts down her "charcoal."
"Apologies kind sir, as you can see, I'm not as skilled at art as hope would need. I'm not aware of any gold I've made, but if there's gold, you're welcome to your share.
If money's not enough I will dessist. I'm sure that my talent will not be missed."
Mikara looks to see (with little expectation) if anyone has thrown her so much as a copper. So far, her whimsical picture is all she has drawn, and I'm sure that it doesn't stand much chance at fetching a price. If anyone has been gracious enough to toss money at her, she offers it to the man.
Otherwise, she begins to roll up the parchment as if to hand it to the man.
"What is your name kind sir, and may I ask who are these Goghs of whom you speak?"
"Vinnie! That's right, that was the name. *Thank* you! You wouldn't happen to know where I could find him, do you? Or would this Dennis know, maybe? I've got a line on a decent commission I could send his way..."

Both you and Magnus notice that she relaxes considerably with your words, "A potential commission, then? So you weren't looking for Gw... good, I mean. Money. An artist always has an interest in money..." She moves away from the bin she had moved to block, and takes a rag from her belt to wipe her hands and dab at her forehead... leaving a smear of charcoal just below her hairline. "Well, I haven't seen Vin for... well, I'm not exactly sure. He hasn't been around to man the booth for so long, that the days all seem to blend into each other. All I know is that 'The Goghs' are going to have to find another charcoalist soon, so I can get a day off."

"I'm known as Ribeye around these parts, but that's not really important... now, 'The Goghs', that's what is important," he takes a second to see if Mikara picks up on his emphasis. "They're the guild for the street artists in 'The Commons'. Everyone has a guild, even the street kids've got one, and every guild has a job. If everyone does their job right, then 'The Commons' run smoothly, and the nobles can feel safe coming down here to go 'slumming'... and the money keeps pouring in. We 'Redboots'..." he stops again to indicate his footwear "...are contracted by the guilds to help enforce the established 'order'... and, see, by setting up your little booth, you have created competition... which threatens that order." He gives you a hard-case look before continuing, "Kapeesh?"
He comes around to take a look at your work with an unskilled, appraising eye "Ya know?... I heard that the Goghs are looking for another charcoal artist to give Matilda a break. If you're interested you might want to go talk to her..." and then Ribeye indicates, with a gesture, the woman that Morvannon is speaking to.
Oh yeah... and it seems that Ribeye is going to hang out here watching you until you decide to move on.

This stuff is sort of occuring simultaneously with each other. You are currently having a parlay with your Poe Eye, and one of his companions alerted a redboot about the 'unauthorized artist' while you were bringing down your quarry. I imagine that everyone will be coming back together soon...

Tristan glances over to where Magnus and Morvannon are talking to Matilda, then returns to the red boot.
"Well, we certainly don't want trouble. But a single artist for all this area? That seems odd. Have you lost one recently?"
"There's only one of each type of artist in the area... and we haven't lost any, and I'm not really at liberty to be discussing this sort of business with strangers. Now... if you'll be on your way, I can be on mine."

"Well... yes. I mean, no. I... well... we take turns working the streets down here, and all 'The Goghs' know about Vinnie, is that he's taken some time off due to 'family matters'." She scratches her head for a moment, spreading the black smear on her forehead. "Vinnie's brother, Dennis, is one of the Redboots... he's the one who set up the security contract with the guilds. Now that I think of it... haven't seen him for a while either..." she rubs the side of her nose, leaving a black smudge in her finger's wake.
