After Tristan disentangles himself from Tonk, he dives right back into the chase. As he starts gaining ground on the man he gets ready to take down the prey, a wicked predatory smile on his face.
OOC
Going for Acrobatics to catch up and then attempt to dive at his knees to take him down. IC is down, so if you could please make the roll, Joe?

Blade rolls 13 Endurance - just barely a pass (man, I should've picked harder difficulties)

Dextyr - History? During a chase? That's pretty tenuous, so I'm going to have to make your difficulty a lot higher. Let's say 17 (+5).

And you rolled a 28. That'd do it.

That's 8 successes, so I won't bother to roll the rest of your actions.

Dextyr thinks back to his father's stories. It was a long shot, but maybe one would be of helpful in this situation. What did the old man say? Oh, that's right: "My boy, you always have to be prepared for a chase. Always. Why, I remember one time I was chasing this fellow through the woods. We'd just slaughtered a bunch of old men in a cabin - dirty job, but somebody had to do it, war isn't pretty you know - and we spotted this fellow spying on us from the woods. As soon as he saw we were onto him, he took off like a rabbit! Well, we thought he was going to get away for certain, but I had my running shoes on! So I came up behind him, and I feinted to the left, and then I deked to the right, then I dip-see-doodled, and soon he didn't know which way was what! Ran him down good and proper. 'Course, it turned out he was just running to where his friends were waiting with a trap for us, but that's another story."

Dextyr comes up behind the man and feints to the left. The quarry veers away to the right. Dextyr dekes to the right, herding the man back towards the others. Finally, he dip-see-doodle's and somehow ends up in front! The man yelps.

Blade pounds steadily through the woods, knowing that sooner or later the prey will tire. Sure enough, he comes out of a break in the trees and sees Dextyr triumphantly facing the man, who is standing with his hands on his knees, panting. He also sees two things Dextyr missed: in your curving chase, you've run all the way around back to the road - and there's a halfling in a tree behind Dextyr, pointing a sling at his head!

From across the road you hear a curse, and a voice calls, "Idiot! You were supposed to lead them down the road!"

The halfling sighs and yells back, ""Nice job, idiot! NOw they know you're there!" He lets fly with his stone at Dextyr, just clipping him solidly in the back of the head, and fades back into the trees.

Fight!

The B nearest to you is the human bandit you've been chasing. The other is another human bandit hiding in the trees across the road. The H is a halfling slinger.

The trees are difficult terrain. If you're in a square with trees, you have cover; if there's a full square of trees between you and the attacker, you have full cover.

I went ahead and placed you, since you end up wherever you happened to be standing at the end of the run, without any time to arrange yourself tactically. And I rolled initiative for everyone to keep things moving. The halfling went first.

The slinger attacks Dextyr, hitting with a roll of 18 for 8 damage, and then moves south at least 2 squares and rolls a Stealth check, getting 22. Since nobody has Passive Perception that beats 22, you can't see him without spending a minor action to get an active roll. (You can target the square you guess he's in, though.)

Oh, and if you feel that getting hit in the head with a rock is a poor reward for winning a skill challenge - you're right! But if you failed, you'd have been in the middle of the road, in the crossfire, and they'd have had a surprise round!

23 - Halfling Slinger who started at F14
19 - Mikara (24/24 hp)
18 - Tonk (24/24 hp)
17 - Dextyr (20/28 hp)
13 - Tristan (24/28 hp)
13 - Human Bandit 1 at L18
12 - Blade (25/29 hp)
7 - Human Bandit 2 at D17

(Since this is the first turn, I've shown the starting map even though the slinger's already moved away. It's actually in the trees somewhere, but you can't tell exactly where without a Perception check.)

OOC: I forgot about the +1 from being near an elf!

Passive Perception 22

The halfling is now in F12. There's also a second halfling hiding in the trees at L16.

Even if you tell others what square these guys are in, they count as hidden so people will take a penalty to hit them (and they have combat advantage) unless they can pass their own DC 22 Perception check. "It's right there!" "I don't see anything!"

Dextyrs triumphant grin suddenly vanishes as fiery pain explodes in his head.
"WHAT THE FU.." Dextyr spins around to see where the pain he was now feeling came from.
"Take one alive for questioning later..but not that stone chucking tree monkey - make sure he's dead" Dextyr shouts to the others before they all sprang into action and slaughtered everything that moved.

"Watch out! There's more than just that one hobbit halfling in the forest. Other side of road, near the human" Blade says harshly.

Dextyr loks over to Tonk with a puzzeled look on his face. He then has a look as if he has realised something "Ahh, so I take it you have never heard of the savage Mumbarian Tree Monkeys. They are deadly creatures my father once told me about. They can wipe out an entire platoon of soldiers with thier deadly accurate aim and simple stones, and as such are a foe that you must take great caution of. We must eliminate them quickly before they inflict too much damage upon our ranks".

Mikara reaches the edges of the clearing. Seeing Dexter get hit from behind, she figures that this is where the trap is to be sprung.

"Aieeeeeee!"

Standard: Nimble Strike: 1d20+7=22! Damage: 1d10+5+1d8=16

If I get a chance to overhaul Mikara, I think I'll change out hit-and-run with Twin Strike. Not sure if I'll be allowed to though.

Before Tonk acts, I need to know if the bandit Mikara shot is still alive.

Yes, Twin Strike is the Ranger's must-have power. You shouldn't need an overhaul - regular retraining lets you swap one power for another.

Tonk's Turn

"I no see them!"

"Please come, Kill Buddy Blade! I run across road and splat enemy!"

Tonk sprints towards the human bandit across the road. The half-orc leaps into the air, flipping twice, striking the bandit on the side of the neck, and landing behind his target.

"So sorry! I hope you no have child born with bruise from hit of me! Hee-hee! Maybe you be smart and give up now?"

[Move Action: From B21 to H19. Standard Action: Handspring Assault with Mace, as part of CHARGE! from H19 to K19; Free Action: Furious Assault, assuming attack hits (+1d8 damage); +2d6 damage from Sneak Attack; v. AC (1d20+6=23, 4d8+2d6+4=34); Shift from K19 to M18]

The bandit cries, "Ok! I surr - ow..." His voice trails off, his eyes become unfocused, and he sways on his feet. "That really hurt!" he complains in surprise.

Tonk

You notice a rope hanging from a tree branch behind the bandit's head. The other end of it trails back into the trees somewhere.

Status

Mikara places her Hunter's Quarry on Bandit 2 and then attacks him, hitting for 16 and shifting to D21.

Tonk moves and then charges to K19, hitting Bandit 1 with Handspring Assault for 34 damage, bloodying (no kidding?) and then shifting to M18.

Dextyr's turn!

Remember, if you haven't beaten their Stealth rolls with either an active (minor action) or passive Perception roll, you don't know exactly what square the enemies with posted Stealth rolls are in.

23 - Halfling Slinger 1 at F12 (0 damage, Stealth 22)
19 - Mikara (24/24 hp, Hunter's Quarry on Bandit 2)
18 - Tonk (24/24 hp, prone)
17 - Dextyr (20/28 hp)
13 - Tristan (24/28 hp)
13 - Human Bandit 1 at L18 (34 damage)
12 - Blade (25/29 hp)
9 - Halfling Slinger 2 at L16 (0 damage, Stealth 22)
7 - Human Bandit 2 at D17 (16 damage)

OOC: Is manipulating the rope a minor or standard action.
