Blade will stand next to the halfling, his greataxe aimed at the halfling's neck when he sees the others jump into the bushes. He says "I will be the bait that draws them to me, you jump them, and if you say anything halfling, Maros' servant will see that your arms will be cut off and you'll be beat with them while you slowly lose your lifeblood and the last thing you'll see will be me holding your bloody appendege grinning as I smack you once more with it" the deva says coldly, not a hint of emotion in his voice.
OOC
Sorry I posted yesterday on a friend's PC, but it kept timing out (stupid dial up). Blade will be the bait, he can't hide worth anything, so it's not worth it. init (1d20=7), well Blade's going last again
He OoE's the halfling
He readies an action to use Bond of Retribution on the halfling if it speaks/warns his allies. vs ac; vs ac; radiant dmg (1d20+6=20, 1d20+6=11, 1d12+4=12) Hits AC 20 for 12 damage (non-lethal) & The first time an enemy other than the target hits or misses you before the end of your next turn, the target takes 4 radiant damage
Dextyr, upon hearing the hounds looks around quickly and the with a frown on his face looks to the other. In a hushed tone he speaks "Well it looks as if our choice of what to do has been made for us. Good luck little one - you will need it to stay alive" he comments to the halfling, giving him a look that speaks of the pain he will suffer if he does not comply with their orders.
He then makes his way into the bushes and does his best to hide, but can't seem to find adequate cover. Seeing that hiding won't do the trick for him he decides to go another route. With his wand tucked away he draws his sword and then crumples himself onto ground pretending to be dead and laying in the bushes.
Gods I hope we make it through this one....luck does not seem to be with me right now....
mechanics
Will spend a healing surge bringing me to 27 hit points with 8 surges remaining.
Looks as though Dextyr will also act as bait to start this fight.

Sorry again for the delay. I'll probably only have time to update Menace of the Icy Spire this weekend (both of these games are at the point where I have to set up new maps, which takes a while). Hold tight, though, I'll get it going again sooner or later.
The howling grows louder and a pack of hounds comes into view, loping up the road from the south. But the howling echoes from jaws that gape loosely, with tongues lolling out like dead worms. The dogs' flesh is stretched taught over their bones, their eyes sunken back in their sockets, and the stench of the grave rolls off them. They are clearly dead.
Driving the hounds before him is their master: a skeletal warforged made of black steel. The symbol on its forehead has been defaced, hacked out of recognition with deep gouges. The warforged hunter stares eagerly forward up the trail as his hounds lower their rotting snouts to the earth in a mockery of tracking.
Flashes of oily light slide through the air around the pack, blue, purple and green. You can make out a swarm of strange pulsating gasbags, like floating jellyfish, which dart around the dogs' heads, tendrils lashing. One of them settles on a hound's back, grasping at it with its suckers, but a minute later it lets go and rises into the air again, unable to draw blood from the dead flesh. Another tries to fasten to the warforged but can grasp nothing but smooth metal. Its tendrils writhe in frustration.
Dungeoneering 10
The floating creatures are Fell Taints, strange, aberrant predators that kill by inflicting madness, feeding on the thoughts and emotions they steal from their foes.
Dungeoneering 15
The alien fell taints are only partially real. Although some aspect of them exists in the world, the rest is formed by the minds of those who view them.
Fell taints can live indefinitely without eating. They simply go dormant until a prospective meal comes near.
The warforged concentrates on the trail it is following, ignoring the creatures trailing it in turn. Suddenly it spots Blade standing brazenly by the road ahead. It throws up a hand and the hounds lurch to a halt. Both hunter and hounds stand unnaturally still, staring towards Blade. The cloud of alien jellyfish circle slowly, occasionally brushing ineffectually against a hound.

Dextyr uses Song of Rest and Tonk spends 2 Healing Surges, for 6+4 each. (No point in using Majestic Word because he'd still need 2 surges to get to full.) That means Dextyr's 1 surge puts him at full (you forgot your own Song of Rest!)
I'll put Tonk at G17, just south of Lilf, and Tristan next to him at F17. Blade's at H18, not hidden, and Dextyr's at - uh, I dunno, G15, midway between the two groups, I guess. (Also, I'm gonna treat Dextyr's Bluff roll as his Stealth - he counts as hidden until somebody notices he's not dead.)
Lilf has spent a healing surge during the break, so he's down to 17 damage taken (still bloodied), and also recharged his Stone Rain power.
The enemies roll 19 initiative (using the roll for their leader, the Warforged). Actually, I rolled separately for Lilf before I remembered we were using Mal Malenkirk style initiative, and got 22, which is conveniently in the same block. So Mikara goes first, then Lilf, then the Warforged and his crew, then everyone else (including Mikara) in whatever order they post.
Remember, trees and the brown square (fallen logs) are difficult terrain.
Mikara shivers a little as she spots the Fell Taints, but tries to think of pleasent things.
This is hard to do when you want to kill something.
In any case, I'm not going to wait until blade is surrounded by those things.
At the last minute, she changes her mind.
OOC:
Minor: Hunter's quarry on the closest Fell Taint
Move: None
Standard: Nimble Strike
Target: Warforged
Attack: 1d20+7+2(Combat Advantage, hidden, surprise)-2(range)+1(Prime Shot)=11!
I'm guessing that's a miss.
Effect: (JNC) Not sure how you handle moving through trees, but If she can, she shifts through the branches to D12. If not, she just stays where she is.
Sorry, you can't shift through the trees. On the ground, the trees are difficult terrain; in the air, same, but it takes a DC 15 Athletics or Acrobatics check to move without falling 10' to the ground. (You can climb down as a move action without having to roll.)
The bound halfling stares in fear at Blade's axe, caught in confusion between the conflicting instructions from Tonk and Blade. Finally he simply whimpers, barely loud enough for Blade to hear him, "Help?"
Meanwhile, Mikara leans forward to get a clear shot at the warforged. At the last minute she hesitates, but her movement has already shaken the branch and set the leaves around her rustling. The hunter's head spins around, focusing in on the source of the sound, and it throws up an arm and points. The pack of hounds surges forward up the road, trailed by their cloud of glowing parasites. As it moves, the hunter's head tracks back and forth, searching the woods for more concealed prey. Its voice grates out, "There are two others."
Two of the dogs run for Mikara's tree with startling speed, and leap up the trunk towards the lower branches, jaws snapping. They lose their momentum and scrabble at the base of the tree, snapping and snarling. The other two follow the hunter's rigidly pointing arm and race towards Dextyr, lying among the corpses. Unfortunately, these dogs have an uncanny sense of death and both of them of them descend on Dextyr. Their fangs drip a black, smoking ichor, and he realizes that any touch will eat into his skin - he tries to roll out of the way, but before he can regain his feet they are upon him, savaging him with their dripping, hungry jaws.
Now that they are closer, Mikara and Dextyr can see that the hounds are emaciated, with flies buzzing around the open sores in their skin. The stench is almost unbearable.
OOC
The dogs have a Rotting Stench (aura 1) - anyone caught in the aura of 3 or more hounds takes a -2 to attack rolls, skill checks and ability checks until the start of their next turn. Mikara and Dextyr are both in the aura of only 2 dogs, so no penalty yet.
One of the tentacled creatures drifts after the dogs. As it approaches it becomes aware of the living flesh crouching in the tree above them. It moves faster and faster, and begins to arc upwards, sailing over their heads right towards Mikara's perch. The fell taint rushes towards her and reaches out with its tendrils, running them almost lovingly around her head. She feels an insidious presence which writhes painfully in her forehead as she tries to expell it. Mikara jerks backwards, mercifully breaking contact with the tendrils, in time to see another of the creatures arcing up over the trees and sailing down towards her left. She ducks and its tentacles swipe through the air above her head. The two fell taints hang in the air near her, pulsing slightly.
The other two fell taints bypass Mikara's tree and converge on Dextyr. One arcs up over the head of the Warforged, swiping lazily at it with its tendrils as it passes, and descends on Dextyr from above. Dextyr has a horrible sight of a pulsating, razor fanged maw in its base before a curtain of tendrils descends around his head and he begins to scream and convulse. The creature recoils and shoots up into the air, leaving a ring of bleeding sucker marks aroud his forehead. The shaking gradually subsides.
The final creature now hovers over the head of one of the two hounds that had been worrying at him - it makes a reaching motion towards him with its tentacles, but the other fell taint's sudden retreat causes it to pull back. It spins in place, turning a deep red and then purple, and settles onto the dog's back for a moment before being shaken off.

Mikara puts her Hunter's Quarry on Fell Taint 1 and misses the Warforged (losing her concealment as she attacks). Mikara: if you were using your Longbow, the range is 20/40 and he's 12 squares away, so no range penalty (but it doesn't matter because 13 is still a miss).
Lilf holds his action.
Warforged: double move to G11, minor action Perception to spot anyone else hidden in the trees: Perception (1d20+3=20). He spots Tristan and Dextyr.
Rotting Hound 1: move to E10, charge to E12 (with an Athletics check to leap high enough for the bite to hit: Athletics (1d20-1=12) is a fail)
Rotting Hound 2: move to G12, charge to G14 and bite at Dextyr: Bite (vs Reflex) (1d20+4=17) - actually 20, forgot +2 for combat advantage and +1 for charge - hitting for 5 necrotic.
Rotting Hound 3: move to H11, charge to F13 (with an Athletics check to leap high enough for the bite to hit: Athletics (1d20-1=13) is fail)
Rotting Hound 4: move to H10, charge to H14 and bite at Dextyr: Bite (vs Reflex) (1d20+4=10) - actually 13, forgot +2 for combat advantage and +1 for charge - hitting for 5 necrotic.
Fell Taint 2: fly to B10, 20' above the ground (going over the trees to avoid difficult terrain), flying charge downwards to D13, 10' above the ground (same level as Mikara): Tendril Caress (vs Reflex, w/+1 Charge) (1d20+5+1=9, 1d6+4=9) - miss.
Tristan weighs his options from his temporary hiding spot, then decides he'd rather not get embroiled in the middle of the melee. "That metal one will feel Dayna's wrath!" he whispers to himself, just loud enough for Tonk and Blade to hear.
Instead of charging straight in, he jumps out of his hiding spot and runs around the whole battle, bursting from the bushes beside the warforged in a diving roll. Coming up to his feet right behind the construct, he stage-whispers, "Boo!"
The elf grins the dreadful grin of a predator just before it pounces as his sword flashes out in two quick arcs, calling on Dayna to laden the blows with her power.
Actions
I didn't get hit or use my AP in the last fight, right? My stats and actions are based on that assumption.
Move: to C12. More than one square of trees between me and the warforged means I can make a Stealth roll, right? Stealth (1d20+11-5=25) Minor: OoE Warforged Standard: Angelic Alacrity vs. Warforged. Shift 5 squares to G10 (C12>C11>D10>E9>F9>G10). 1d20+7=16, 1d20+7=11, 2d12+4=17, result is 16 (or 18 if I have CA) vs. AC for 17 damage. I think I'll burn Elven Accuracy here. 1d20+7=23, 1d20+7=22, result is 23 (or 25 with CA) vs. AC. That's better
AP: Bond of Pursuit vs. Warforged: 1d20+7=17, 1d20+7=19, 1d12+4=9, result is 19 (or 21 if I have CA) vs. AC for 9 damage.

Remember my +2 to AC vs. OA!
The realization quickly sets in that 'playing dead' was a very bad idea. Fear begins to set in as the hounds set upon him and then grows into outright terror as the fell creature descends on his head.
“AAARRGGGHHHH” Dextyr cries out in pain as it tears into his head, feeding on his life force.
Feeling his life-force waning, Dextyr knows he must get away from these foes. Pulling his legs away from the nipping corpse dogs he gets his legs up under himself and ducking to further avoid the jellyfish Dextyr steps to the side as he stands up.
“Ha! Tis but a scratch” Dextyr calls out, an obvious recital of some epic, but none the less Dextyrs wounds seem to lessen as the magic of his words ease his pain and he hops a step further away from the flying jellyfish.
Dextyr then with a bit of his confidence regained, points towards the creatures and shouts “YOU SHALL NOT PREVAIL. WE WILL DANCE ON YOUR ROTTEN CORPSES” and a blast of arcane energy thunders forward and rebuffs the creatures progress and knocks them away.

Tonk drops from his perch, performing a forward roll. (Move Action: Acrobatics (1d20+9=25), from F17 to G16.)
(Spend Action Point, acquired after achieving milestone with bandits.)
Tonk grabs Dextyr by the shoulder and yanks the bard backwards, switching places. (Standard Action: King's Castle -- Dextyr goes to G16, Tonk to G15; Attack dog at F14, if still alive -- v. Reflex (1d20+6=16, 2d8+4+1=13) -- mace is two-handed, so +1 damage -- If mace hits, use Furious Assault as free action for additional 1d8=6 damage.)
Ozy pointed out that I should have let Mikara shift up in the tree, since she has Wild Step so the difficult terrain doesn't matter. She would have had to make and Athletics/Acrobatics check though. Too late now - I'll guess we'll just say she didn't want to risk the roll.
Probably won't be able to update until the weekend.
Joe, Ozy and I talked about that. I'm cool with the no shifting in the trees. It's understandable. I think he was under the impression that I was on the ground. No biggie.
Tonk, I had posted that Dextyr had moved to E16. You may want to revise your action based on that. As well, Dextyr attempted to push the dogs and fell taints back. Not sure which ones were pushed for sure, but I did have one hit for sure (critical) and a couple of sure misses. The fell taint at G15, I rolled a 15 vs Fort. If that hit I pushed it to J12. The dog at F14 I rolled a 12 vs Fort, and if that hits it gets pushed to I10.
Its kind of hard to determine your actions when you don't know where the enimeis are or if they are still alive.....
I think the Fell Taint is flying, so it's not in the same ground square and can occupy the same space as Dextyr, so you shouldn't be able to move. And I'm cool with Joe doctorin' my move to make it fulfill its spirit.

OK, well I was unaware that there was a special rule for flying creatures.
Since Dextyr was prone he stood up. As per standing up from prone in the PHB it mentions that if your square is occupied then you get to shift as part of the same move action.
Even if that does not work out Dextyr can then still use majestic word and as part of that power I shift 1 square.
