prisoners
Yes, there are a fair number of prisoners in the corridor. A quick head count shows 20 cells and 28 prisoners, no dwarf or giths.

Some are fairly agitated, some are nearly catatonic. This is an asylum after all...

Forgot to mention it, but the cells are not locked, they are barred, so it is no problem to open them.

Murau's eyes shine briefly in wild triumph before settling back on his casually bored expression of before.

-''Thank you. That will be quite a change of pace from the last seven months. Now, you are looking for someone named 'Sick Seagull'? I can't say I know the name, but if he is the brother of this one, I am expecting him to be a dwarf. As far as I know, there is only one dwarf prisoner inside this house of pain. The warden is a dwarf and until recently a bout of racial pride or deep rooted shame, I don't care to guess which, prevented him from taking in any fellow dwarf into custody.''

The genasi walks out of the cell slowly and looks at his Saviors.

-''Ah, no less than three Giths. You are here for Gerzenit, I presume? You are in luck, he would be held in the same cells as the dwarf, if they haven't bored themselves with either, which is quite possible at this point. You may have realized that this asylum has been hijacked. A man named Krestos working for a criminal named Rinch has taken over. They use the site as a detention and interrogation centers for persons of interest. How are they of interest? Good question. Go ask him. A fair guess is that it has something to do with extra-planar travels. I was already interned when they took over but but due to my peculiar appearance they sent me to the special ward. Interrogation was short; in a matter of minutes they were satisfied that I had never even left Daunton and then they had no more questions for me. I was sent back to the common cells. In my brief stint in the special ward I did meet the afore mentionned Gerzunit and note a catatonic dwarf amongst the special prisoners.

To enter the special ward, You simply go down the stairs all the way, until you are confronted by a dead end. You then say: 'Open this damn door' in dwarven and there you go, a secret passage is revealed.''

"Quite simple. Another question: Why did you get in here in the first time? You sound awfully sane for an asylum, and as far as I understand human society, they get their insane relatives in such palces" The githyanki asks plainly.

The genasi smiles genially.

-''Well, if you are here, you must have mowed through quite a few guards, right? These were more or less pressganged into service. This Rinch fellow can be quite persuasive; no one wants to get fed to zombies along with their entire family.

A few of these guards were real thugs, not to be missed, but I'd say over half were decent enough family men caught in an impossible situation.

So to answer your question, let me ease your conscience; I wasn't locked for anything so gruesome as mass slaughter. I am more... selective.

Well, this has been pleasant. But if I were you, I'd get moving. I distinctly remember that the last level is not a dead end. It gives access to tunnels and underground caves that can be used for egress. From my limited undertsanding of their operation, I would expect that Krestos is closing the book right about now. He will likely kill all prisoner deemed useless, pack the essentials and leave.''

"I care little about you criminal activities. I only wanted to know that you were not a damn loony." Mri'Thas states "Now go, you have became useless to us, and it seems that no one here likes you, or you won't be in a cell" He says, turning around and walking away. "Let's hurry before that vermin escapes."

"Don't worry," says Rabbit. "I'm sure many of these people are being held here as prisoners, not inmates. 6 Eagle isn't crazy! ... At least, he wasn't when he left home." His voice sounds worried. "Let's hurry up and find him!"

As he is about to leave, he turns to the childlike prisoner and says, "Will you be all right?"

"If we are going to arrive in time to save him and catch the villains responsible for this, we should move out." Kama'zer tells the others while looking around the cells. "Most of these would be unsafe to free just yet, though it pains me to see them locked up. They are not slaves at least and do not seem well, so leaving them here for now is for the best. 'Gerzunit', eh? We'll have to look him up as well. Strictly speaking, we just came for the dwarf (and his name is Six Eagle like the number and the bird), but when someone assumes I'm doing something just because of my race, I like to find out why they thought that because I might just be interested regardless. For now though, let's get to these stairs and head downward." she says impatiently.

OOC: Not sure if we know where the stairs in question are yet or not. If not, ask Mauru for directions and get moving.

Murau smiles slyly at Mri'Thas reply. When 7 Rabbit inquires about Jim, he pats the young man on the shoulder.

-''Don't worry about Jim. I owe him for many hot meals sneaked into my cell. I'll get him off this rock, I take care of my friends.''

The young simpleton gaze adoringly at Murau and follows him as they leave.

-''Beware of the shadows!'' he says mysteriously.

Following his indications, the party reaches the bottow of the stairs. As promised, the secret door opens once asked in dwarven. The Stones noisily reshape into a doorway, preventing any chance for a surprise attack. Already, the heroes can hear shouts of alarm coming from a dimly lut corridor.

The heroes reach the scene of an ongoing evacuation. Prisoners are being herded away, most in a nearly catatonic state. As soon as he turns the corner, 7 Rabbit sees his brother. He seems haggard, numbly following instructions. He has been completely shaven, wears rags and has lost over fifty pounds.

The heroes notes two sinister looking warforged who are clearly the lynchpin of the defense. There are also two mage and half a dozen strange looking guards. As soon as they move forward, their otherwordly nature is confirmed by the abyss in their eyes.

BG gets 19.

Callen and Soldier beats that.

I just realized 7 Rabbit asked twice and I never replied. Well, as you can guess by the radio silence, there was nothing of worth unless you were interested by the mundane equipment displayed in the fight (mostly a crossbow).

No grid letters and numbers yet? Guessing those will be added. Question: I'm guessing that the reddish-brown bar running under the guillotine and the Iron Maidens is a trench or groove for blood to be collected in instead of some kind of wall that would block movement? Just making sure, even though it seems fairly obvious since one of the mages is standing in the middle of it and we can see 6 Eagle clearly even though he's on the other side of it.

Another question: Are the cell bars steel? I only ask because on the map they look pretty thick and irregular. Maybe stone instead? Or just a bad picture.

Reddish line; a groove for blood. Has no game effect. I guess the artist just wanted to be creepy.

The cells bar; Iron. No one would waste steel on that! Thick enough that they can't be battered by any but the strongest men (Strenght DC 25). But hacking at the lock should open it in a few blow.

I'm pretty sure the blood groove has a game effect in the Dungeon adventure this is originally from, actually. But that's not important here.

It occurs to me to mention that there isn't really a guillotine in the middle of the room. There is a torture rack instead, one cleary not part of the orginal layout.

There are a few dead prisoners in their cell; those who were not worth transporting.

Three of the 'guards' react as Soldier charges them. Their arms become shadowy tentacle that they use like whips, their visage deformed by glee. They all strike Soldier and sap the strenght from his legs, leaving him immobilized and stranded in the middle of the room.

"Damn sloppy!" Kama'zer curses while moving up after seeing Soldier attacked by all three monsters. Taking aim, she charges forward to impale the nearest creature with her scimitar. After it drops lifeless off of her blade, she shouts an encoraging word to Soldier. "See how easy they are to kill? Just get moving again and we shall take care of them quickly."
