Rio and Kuther cannot make heads or tails about the work, it going far beyond them. Khoros, however, at least spots something: A release mechanism of a sort. It'd be tricky to get to, but would allow them access to the "stone" thing.
OOC: The machine is pretty sturdy, if mad, so smashing it directly would be a lengthy process. A few good Disable Device checks should allow access to the heart of the machine. Wik's around, so I'll give him veto, but if everyone is fine with Khoros trying to open it, I'll have him do so Monday.

OOC: I'm going on vacation to Vancouver from the 7th-13th, so don't expect much from me then. I'll update more then (there is something big coming up, so I don't really want to start it right yet...)

Kenn peers resignedly at the infernal machine, regretting he never learned how to disable devices. Next chance I get, I'm all about lockpicks and climbing. This is humiliating.
But if his search check finds an off switch, he feels pretty comfortable flipping it.
He'd actually rather flip the off switch than Disable device anyway. After the thing's powered down we can go bash the evil out of it.
As the shifter scout begins fiddling with the machine, it begins to hum louder, the disembodied warforged components starting to jump erratically about it. Just as Khoros unlatches one of the hinges, a mental shriek pierces the air, and silent but painful burst.
THUMP
Kenn looks to the sealed door and, no surprise, sees the lumbering masses of un-alive 'forged begin to stir. One has already begun to smash the door. The other 'forged in the room also begin to stir...
OOC: Surprise round folks. Please roll inits and give actions. Khoros will have to release two more latches before he can get to the stone. There are two forged in rooms 2 and 3 that are becoming active.

Mardigan's jaw drops to the floor. He looks around. Is there anyway to block these, forged's way? If not, we'll have to do it the old fashioned way
Mardigan allows his chain to drop and readies it " You ready Kenn?"
"Just once," Kenn tells Mardigan, "I'd like to go somewhere and be surrounded by hordes of nubile maidens, all surrounding me and clamoring for my ... affections. Just once..."
He takes three strides towards Mardigan.
If his inertial armor is still active, Kenn takes a moment to shoot one of the warforged in the room in the back of his head with his crossbow.
If it isn't, he activates it.
The Infernal Machine (Surprise Round)
Seeing things stir to life, Mardigan swings his chain at the nearest 'forged. It wraps around its legs, and the Orien scion just manages to pull it off its feet. He quickly follows up, just denting some of its plating. [Tripped and 2hp after DR].
Rio attempts to strike at one of the 'forged and slices a large gap in its deadened pulp. [6hp]
Khoros wraps himself in protective armor. Nearby, Kenn does the same. [mage armor and inertial armor activated].
Awkwardly working without tools, the shifter fails to open the second latch. [Fail Disable Device]
The damaged warforged begin to moan piteously, a metallic raspy sound, as they stumble to "life". More disturbing, the disembodied warforged pieces begin to move frantically about the machine, swarming all around it!
The Infernal Machine (Round 1)
Conditions: Yellow Border: Tripped
Note, there is a wall between Mardigan/Rio and the other two forged. Rubble is difficult terrain. The squares near the machine are treated as swarm squares (the swarm cannot move away from them). The swarm cannot be attacked (only destroying the machine gets rid of it).
Mardigan sort of winces at Kenn's last comment, somewhat unexpectedly. He seems to shake it off immediately, again smashing his chain into the grounded zomforged.
Understood. If Rio drops his target, he'll take his 5' step into the target's space instead of to the southeast. I don't think you can takea 5' step before cleaving, but if I'm wrong on that Rio will cleave the other warforged, should he drop the first one.
