The back room is cozy, if a bit dark, designed perfectly for those 'back-room' deals babbled about in the Sharn Inquisitive. There is a table with several chairs. The room's only occupant does not bother itself with one; instead, it sits in the center of the table, upright, looking more like a cat on its hind legs than a patron.
As you enter, it once again speaks in the too-large-for-it voice, "Be seating yourself, and best be telling me your story, as it were, before we begin. I know this place well, so I be understanding if you leave a bit out, but I be doing the employing, so I'd like to know the base particulars."

OOC: Welcome to the game! Action can begin now. Please put a summary of your character (Class, HP, AP, AC) with a link to the character thread in your first posts. I will be handling any rolls (I'll take 10 for you most of the time), so make sure you let me know if there is something specific you want. Please post your speech and thoughts in your character's color, using italics for the latter. I prefer players who post about once a day, and I will NPC or write out characters who are inactive for short or long periods of time. OOC text should be in grey, like this. Otherwise, have fun!

Balnibar steps into the room, a little trepidatious at first. Not used to seeing such a creature before him, he wonders slightly how to proceed.
As Aldus speaks, he looks at the chair and hops into it. He grins, suddenly feeling at ease.
"Good day, Mr. Thunderbanner. My name is Jiminyblivet, Balnibar Jiminyblivet. I follow my family profession as a dungeon designer and trapsman, in my Journeyman phase. I have worked to improve my capabilities in hidden compartments and multidefense architecture, and I offer my services to anyone that may need to find ways to bypass any manner of traps or tricks. I cannot lay claim to any of the devious dungeons that appear in the area.
I have, however, managed to drop a barn on a wyvern."
The little creature looks up at the gnome (a rare occurrence for one his size), and bobs its head up an down. "Ho! Sounds like a story Brews be liking to hear. But if your talents are as they say, you'd be very useful. Let's be seeing who else be joining."

Lorth approaches the creature, not quite sure what to make of it, "I do not know what you are, but my name is Lorth, I am a shifter. I grew up in Stoneyard, but I have spent the last two or so years training with the monks of Dol Arrah in High Hope."

The creature cranes its neck towards the shifter, a feat made more unusual by its lack of turning its entire body. "I'll be! An odd one, but that is to be expected here at the Shard. Muscle be needed though, and one that can knock out instead of kill be a bonus! Have a seat, have a seat."

Mathew very confidently approaches the table and pulls up a seat. "I am Mathew d'Cannith an artificer from House Cannith. I am very apt at infusions and creations. I look for adventure and companionship.

The creature, which Mathew recognizes, makes a bird-like chrip at the artificer's entrance, a sound totally unlike that of its 'voice'. "Ah, an artificer after me own heart. Can't be granting you companionship, but adventure of a sort can be had. Good to have one with a mind for the craft, the better to deal with my, uh, mechanisms!"
Mathew
Mathew recognized the 'creature' as an expeditious messenger, a caster-bound construct called a homunculus. They are used to send messages. The 'voice' must be that of its creator, who you assume to be an artificer of some talent to be able to create such a thing.
OOC: I'd appreciate it if you chose a color other than blue (and darker blues) as your color as it is quite hard to read on my display.

Mathew smiles at the creature. "If you don't mind me asking what is your name?"

"I be Aldus... er, you mean Cheep here, don't you? This be Cheep, my voice. Quite useful for doing business and yammering when you have important work to be tending to. Doesn't speak on its own of course, not being too bright." Cheep ruffles itself as if indignant at the remark.

Corran enters, surprised to see that all of his new friends have beaten him into the room. He sits down and smiles at the strange creature on the table. I am Corran d'Tharashk, cleric of Balinor. Although my parents seem to think I am best suited to searching the muck of the Shadow Marches for more 'shards, I know that I have been called by Balinor to search out a greater destiny. I wonder if your offer will provide me an opportunity to begin that hunt. OOC: Cleric 1, 6/9 HP, 3 AP, AC 16 (Touch 12, Flat-footed 14), Spells Prepared 0-Detect Magic 1st- Calm Animals (D) Corran

"Hmm." You suspect the creature would scratch it's chin in thought if it were more humanoid. "The Sovereign of the hunt may not be the one for this one, but any help of them is welcome."
OOC: I'm giving folks a little more time to activate any inactive characters (as it is the weekend); I'll kick it in high gear Monday afternoon/eve.

[OOC: We'll start. Please keep your stats updated in your first post as the game progresses]
Seeing you all seated, Aldus/Cheep waits a moment more for any to show up. When none are forthcoming, it sights. "Back in my day, there were more folk willing to do up an odd job or two. Course, with the War going on, had a lot of folk that wanted to be in any service that wasn't the killing of folk. Course, adventuring end up killing a bunch too. Times change."
Cheep resettles itself before Aldus continues. "Anyway, I came here because I know Brews can be counted on when a favor be needing. A while back, I be like you, hanging on, waiting for the odd job to come to Brews. Got my start here. I be retired now from that work, mostly be doing crafting and the like. Constructs me specialty. Mostly be telling you this so you know where I be coming from.
"Anyway, I don't get out too much, doing most of me work from home. So its not surprising when I get the occasional visitor wanting something special done---one of those new artifice clocks or a stele from Xen'drik looked at. So it be a bit unusual when I be getting a visit from a Watchman, a thuggish looking one, and the oddest kobold I ever be seeing. Anyway, to make this already long story short, they wanted something I wouldn't give and there was some ruckus to be had. So here I am, locked up in my vault, trapped in my own home with vagrants and blackguards looting the place looking for the Sovereigns know what.
"That be where you folk come in. I need me a rescue, a rescue of me. Think you are all up to it?"

Of course we're up for it. No man should be trapped in his own house and forced to listen to intruders pilfer his possessions. I, for one, will be on my way as soon as you tell me where you are. Of course, if you have other useful information, that might help. Do you know how many of them there are? What they might be searching for? Corran thinks for a while. What was it they asked for, and what do we need to know about your vault to get you out?
"That be where you folk come in. I need me a rescue, a rescue of me. Think you are all up to it?"
Lorth listens to the story, intrigued, "They have trapped you, like a wolf cornered in its den. That is not right. But why not just send this creature of yours to the watch?"
