"Well, I did say it was a matter of life and death..." Roswyn mutters. She shakes her head, confident that she can get any authorities to see things her way, and focuses on the matter at hand.
Despite herself, Roswyn is impressed at the warforged barbarian's deadly skill as he mows his way through the hapless kobolds. "Good one, big guy!" she calls out as he drops yet another foe. "Let me give you a hand..." She twirls her orb above her head, and as the kaleidescopic colors of the hypnotic pattern fade, they are replaced by a field of smoky, half-seen tentacles that grasp at the kobold slinger and the adjacent kobold warrior.
The slinger, already severely injured panics as the tentacles wrap around his head. The slinger collapses in a heap. It's companion is luckier, gritting his teeth, resisting the gnome's magic. The other kobold near Cleaver, thinks it's safe, but the tentacles lash out at his mind as well when he sees his ally go down.
Her spell cast, Roswyn hurries down across the street, trying to stick close to Harkin. "Cleaver - finish them off!" she cries, imbuing her words with arcane healing energy.
Tondrek clapped and the funny shadows Talky Gnome made. Knowing to stay away, he conjured another ball of lightning against the slinger. However, he was still giggling from the gnome's magic, and it flew skyward, probably never to be seen again. Hopefully.
The kobolds, facing death, try and move away from the group. Roswyn's magic lingers in their minds, and it takes more effort to move their legs.
Harkin moves to his father. The teen pulls a hankerchief from his pocket, dabbing at the bloody knot on his father's head. "Wake up Pa! Wake up!"

*Evo - if Tamarand is targetted by an attack he'll use an immediate interrupt (Storm Soul) to end his thunder/lightning resistance and gain +4 bonus to all defenses TENT.

He points his daggers at them and a glob of green acid follows behind them, but their quick movements is too much for Tamarand to track.

Rohna spurs Natasha around the western side of the cart and then charges into the back of K1, bringing her gore dripping hammer down on it's skull. The weapon finds it's mark, and the kobold falls where it stood.

I moved both of you guys to the left of the wagon. Roswyn's "tentacles" were in front of you. You'd take damage and be slowed if you moved into them. Almost there. I have a feeling this last one won't get to act again.
Roswyn turns away from the halfling and once more raises her orb in the direction of the remaining kobold. She projects an illusion of a large sap crashing down on the back of the kobold's scaly head.
OOC: if the kobold does not fall: The kobold staggers back a couple of steps. "Cleaver!" the gnome shouts. "Let's try to take him alive, so we can ask him some questions and get to the bottom of this!"
The combined assault from Cleaver and Rohna send the final standing kobold into unconsciouness. Unfortunately, the halfling that is going to pay them is too. Several gawkers watch from the allies around you. The loud sound of running feet echoes in the distance. It's coming closer.

Combat over. What is everybody doing? Also, what are everybodies thoughts on the encounters/adventure so far? I think that last encounter went much smoother than the first.
I'm busy today, won't have time for an IC post until later.
Yeah this encounter went much better for us, no wonder since we had surprise and they all started prone and dazed... The adventure is fine so far, I'm hoping we will now have a chance to take some initiative rather than just reacting to events.
Assuming the clomping feet are city guards, Roswyn would be inclined to stay and explain the group's actions. It might make sense to try to stash our prisoner somewhere though so they can't take him away before we get to question him. I'm not sure what the chances are of issues with corrupt guards though. (What neighborhood are we in exactly?)
Also, Roswyn is somewhat suspicious that Harkin has not told us everything. Like why did the kobolds kidnap his dad? Wrecking his store if he won't pay protection, okay. But what would they gain by kidnapping him? So she would probably try talking to him first, shake him up a little and try to see if he knows anything more. (It could be there's something going on that his dad knows about, but he doesn't.)
I thought the numbers of enemies was good, but it seemed like every kobold (the lowliest of the low lvl monsters) had more HP than Rohna (the fighter with the 18 con). Mobs should have either numbers OR HP in a combat not both, or the combats just tend to drag on until people lose interest in the game. The 2nd combat was much smoother though. (Yay this is the longest any 4ED game has gone for me!)
Rohna will move back to the downed shopkeeper and wave over Tondrek to see if the halfling can't be resuscitated.

I actually enjoyed the first fight a bit more then this one as it required a bit more tactics to try and deal with the kobolds and their cover (plus the trap)....

Tondrek smiles at nothing in particular as the fight ends, then frowns a bit when he realizes the kobolds were probably not getting back up. Then he sees a skycab go zinging by at high speed and forgets the whole thing.
Feeling Talky Gnome's pull on his arm, he lets himself be dragged away to the unconscious halfling. He pokes at him with his staff while Doggie stand stoically by, thinking and thinking.
OOC: Heal +9 (IC's down).
Combats
Fine w/ me. First one was a little slow, but the kobold's had a much tactically superior position (as kobold's should). We got the jump on them here which worked in our favor. As long as the pacing isn't loosing too many, should be fine.

I'll have the guards come, unless others have objections. You are currently in the Sharn's Welcome district of Cliffside(see first post of thread). Corrupt guards are definately a possibility in this area of the city(see here http://www.enworld.org/forum/4876960-post4.html)

Not sure if this your exp included in RL games too, but monsters in 4E have hp similar to PCs(not including minions). These weren't normal kobolds you fought. I leveled them to account for your higher level. The first encounter was a level 6 encounter. The dragonshields had 52 hp apiece(4th level soldiers). I hope the interest of actually having leveling PCs keep interest, that is the draw of living worlds.
I will admit that the first fight did drag a little. That was due to the kobolds knowing that they needed to get inside to get cover, and being able to withdraw with little risk and drag out the fight. Part of it also might have been to get used to you guys as PCs(and my mistakes).

I try and make my fights as tactically interesting as possible. Don't be afraid to think outside the box(as the kobolds did with the shelves). The second encounter's disadvantage for the kobolds was due to the success of the skill challenge.

I've been not posting when I could to wait for PCs. Since you start with more options that first level PCs, I've been waiting for actions. If everybody would rather me NPC more often, go ahead and let me know. I've been working a lot more lately, and will be for the next 2 months. Expect a bit slower pace. I worked 16hrs last night and will do so during the next two months. Now on to the good stuff.

Tamarand calls out to the peasants and prostitutes in the alleys. They see the fire in his eyes and walk further away.
Tondrek shuffles over the to the unconscious halfling. Tapping him with his staff, Ronald's eyes flutter open. "Who...Who are you?"
Harkin, excited says, "You saved him, you saved him!"
The sounds of booted are closer and the source is visible as two members of the Sharn Watch rounds the corner. They hold halberds and wear leather armor. Seeing the devastation in the area, they blow on whistles. One yells, "Stop, hold there!"
OOC - Enworld has been doing that a lot lately. I got into the habit of copying my post contents before posting them so that even if the site tries to eat it, I can paste it into a word doc then paste it back into a post when the site starts working again.

Before the guards arrive, Roswyn again takes Harkin by the arm and pulls him to the side, not entirely gently. "Harkin, the Watch will be here any second," she says. She forces him to look in her eyes. "Is there anything else about your father, or this gang? Anything you suspect, even if you're not sure? If he's mixed up with them, I need to know now, before I talk to them. I can't protect him if you don't tell me the whole truth now."
(OOC: Diplomacy, and Insight to see if he's holding back anything: (1d20+13=30, 1d20+7=9))
Roswyn rushes forward as the Watch patrol approaches. "Thank goodness!" she calls out. "Where were you? I mean, I'm glad you're here now!" She wrings her hands, appearing quite flustered and upset.
(OOC: not sure if you want a skill check here; feel free to make one for me... I kinda want to wait and see what the initial attitude of the guards is before anything active.)
The half-orc claps again a the older halfling wakes. As Talky Gnome takes away the younger one, Tondrek says, Hello, Kidnapped Man! I'm Tondrek! And those are Talky Gnome and Little Big Girl and Marky 'Forged and Scary Dark Man., pointy to Roswyn, Rohna, Cleaver and Tamarand in turn. He then pauses a moment and points to Harkin. And... uh... Tondrek not sure who he is. Job Guy? Tells us you his son or father. But could be a changmaling. Or in disguise. Once, I knew one of those brain people that pretended to be a person. She was nice. Hey! Do you like my staff? Made it myself. Tondrek smiles widely without a care for the world, or the oncoming guardsmen.

Bad news in my world. I've been served court papers by my sons mother and am going to be investing a lot of time in that the next few months. I feel super bad for leaving so many people hanging but I cant afford not to.
