dimsdale perception check
You do not notice anyone coming from any other directions, thought it's kind of hard to spot anything when you are staring into the fire...

Though Gurdan does not know why Alexia has drawn her sword, the fact that one of his fellows is on high alert is enough for him.

"Best do what she says," Gurdan says, thumping his warhammer threateningly against his shield.

Before Gurdan can act, and after the 'forged goes for the bait and goes down in a blaze of failure, Gurdan let's out a great belly laugh. "Oh, oh, that was good!" he says, wiping tears of mirth from his eyes. "Quick! Get a new decoy, and let's see how many other Warforged want to sell us 'cleaning supplies'." More laughter. "Ah, ah." Gurdan grabs his belly in pain from all the laughing.

"Someone might want to check out the body, if we can get to it," Gurdan says.

So I get home from work and all the action is over!
History check=19,
Arcana check=24
and Insight check=12

So he might know history, saw the magic but didn't notice anything about the Warforged until it grabbed for the pillar.

Alexia walks over and closes and locks the door.

"Huh. That was unexpected. It also brings up a flaw with this teleport trap. If the real gem had been there, then we would have lost it. We should tell Gurdis about that, when she comes home."

She heads into the kitchen for an onion or something else that could make a serviceable decoy (ooc: Passive perception of 19 if required). If she finds anything, she places it on the pedestal and drapes another piece of cloth over it. She then returns to her chair, adjusts in to account for any change in the sun's position in the sky, and continues playing her lute.

ooc: Did the warforged clean up the dirt before he "escaped"?

After things settle down a bit with the warfordged situation, and
Lo-Kag stops staring at the fire, he turns to talk to the others. "I've connected the dots a about our host and her potent syrup. What value it has with our current situation, I don't know, but here it is...." Lo-Kag pauses and the takes a breath,

"I remember hearing about a minor noble named Gurkhim d'Kundarak who operated out of the Mror Holds. This noble became a merchant and was known for traveling throughout Khorvaire selling and trading his wares. His biggest seller? A potent syrup that the dwarves used for cooking. Most of his customers used it as a "sleeping aid"... on others. Unfortunately for Gurkhim, House Kundarak found out that Gurkhim was actually taking the syrup from the house's own supplies and was making personal profit off of these sales. House Kundarak stripped Gurkhim of his status and he became an outcast. Years later, Gurkhim found himself a wife and they had a daughter. I believe it is the daughter's house that we now stay and that our host is the daughter."

Lo-Kag thinks some more and then states: "Hmmmm, I wonder if she has anymore of that stuff left of what she put in the pancakes. Maybe we can somehow think of a way use some of it on our future foes. Any suggestions?"

Grryth slept through the morning breakfeast without stirring.
Grryth slept soundly through his companions banter and conversation.
Grryth slept like a baby while there was a knock on the door.
Grryth even slept through the whole DMDB3K sales pitch.

It was the simple, unmistakable sound, of a sword being drawn that resulted in Grryth bursting into motion. Instinctively rolling one full turn to the side and comming up with his feet under him, Grryth stood there with axe in hand, looking around quickly identifiying the threat.

As the warforged rushed over towards the pedestal Grryth drew his second axe and a grin crept onto his face. The grin a rabbit might see a wolf give it right before meal time.

Knowing that his plan worked and the theif went for the bait, Grryth was in no hurry to take down the now cornered foe. It was only when the warforged attempted to activate his magical device that Grryth thought otherwise.

Grryth dove to take down the "vacuum salesamn" just as his teleportation device kicked in and Grryths arms wrapped around nothing but air. As he turned his dive into a roll he came up standing to look out the window and listen to the screams of the warforged plumetting to the cogs.

"Hmm, hope he likes his grapefruit." Grryth jokingly commented. This would be the first sign any of his new comrades would have seen to indicate that perhaps Grryth may have a sense of humor.

As Alexia rushes to get another decoy Grryth looks at the pedestal and then over to the fireplace.

"Gettin antoher decoy is all n good, but I doubt that he'll be falling fer that twice. I'm guessin that ifen he had himself a teleportin device, he'd most likely use it again before he hit bottom. By now he's ta where he was tryin ta get to, and now he knows that Gurdis has gottin herself a bunch of houseguests. Garrick ya mentioned that ya gots one of them magical holding bags. Do ya think that it could hide the gem from all magical sorts of detection? Might be an option we need ta look into ta keepin that safe. That is what she be payin us fer."

"I would suggest that it is very rude to spill others secrets as if they were yours to give," responds lord Jarot, "especially when they may be noblity."

Grryth listens to Lo-kag's theory and gives a slight shrug.

"I'm not really carrin who she is or who she isn't. She is payin me fer protection and that's what I'll pervide fer her."

Grryth walks back over to his bedroll and prepares to return to sleep, but before he lays down looks back over to Lo-kag and the others.

"Now if ya can dig up some infermation on who might be wantin to steal her stuff, well that would be good ta know"

And with that Grryth returns to sleep and within moments you can tell he is sound asleep once more.

"True, however, if secrets can gains us insight or combat advantage over our future foes, so be it." Lo-Kag walks over to the remaining pancake batter and carefully spreads it over his sword. The talking back to Lord Jarod. "If this stuff knocked you out in seconds, maybe it can do the same to our foes when my blade strikes true."

He then walks over to Alexia. "Of course, your lute playing (Lo-Kag sighs deeply)...I have no doubt... could easily accomplish the same thing." Lo-Kag begins to thump the hilt of his sword next to the bard...thump..thump.thump thumpthump...on the last thump, some of the batter of the pancakes flies off and lands on the bard's leg. Lo-Kag smiles "Sorry lass." He yawns. "Your lute playing makes me tired. I think I'll sleep for the rest of this sift." The dragonborn heads back to his place by the fireplace and falls back asleep.

If there's something worse that waking up to the sounds of battle near you is to wake up when some dimwit fills a room with dust trying to sell something.

Coffing his way out of sleep, Garrick moves into a sitting position and starts eyeing angrily at the source of his annoyance. Oh great, a salesman! I'd prefered athief over this...

However, as this thought appeared into his mind, the warforged made a beeline to the pedestal and grabed the fake gem, apparently trying to activate some sort of teleportation device to escape. As he hears the loud thump far away, Garrick can't help but laugh at the thief.

Well, that was unexpected. At least now we know a thing or two about who's trying to get this gem, don't we? We know they have resources, as a teleportation item doesn't come cheap and that they don't want to rush into the place and make a noticeable mess ... I hope.

Hmm, not sure if it's a good idea or not to mention that Lo-Kag, he replies to the dragonborn. Nobles tend to be secretive of their dealings, especially if there's something dark in there.

Regarding the bag question, if they are going to be using magic devices and spells, the only thing we could use to truly hide the gem would be a ritual, but I don't have the knowledge needed for that.

Alexia sighs and rolls her eyes at Lo-Kag's antics. Wordlessly she puts down her lute and cleans off her leg. Once she finishes, she picks up her instrument and it looks like she's about to start playing again, but then she pauses. "None of you mind, do you?" she asks, addressing those who are still awake. "I could play something more lively, or not play at all, if my music bothers you."

Alexia
You can find a suitable replacement for the fake gem in the kitchen. There is a cantaloupe about the right size in there. As for moving your chair around, there's no need. The sun moves from east to west, and the only window is in the north wall, which means the room never gets direct sunlight. It makes the place a little darker, but at least you don't have to deal with the sun. Also, yes, the salesman cleaned up the dirt before he escaped.

About Gurdis' Syrup
The syrup is quite obviously a distillation of alchohol mixed with some kind of clear thick substance.
Nature Check DC 15
While the syrup's alcohol content is staggeringly high, you know that they would need to ingest it, or have it introduced directly into their blood-streams. Because of this, a mere scratch would not put enough in their bloodstream to matter. It would take a significant wound to introduce enough to someone to make a noticeable effect in the span of a combat.
ooc
You would need to crit with an attack using the weapon coated in the syrup for it to get a secondary attack vs fort.
Streetwise Check DC 10
There are much cheaper poisons to use that would produce much better combat effects than Gurdis' syrup!

OOC
Sorry I didn't post last night guys, my wife insisted that we spend some quality time together last night and I'd rather not sleep on the couch, lol! You guys are doing great! I'm loving the interactions between you guys.

A few hours after the salesman debacle, Gurdis comes home with a cart-load of groceries. She brings in a few crates of vegetables and fruits and a few packages of varied meats, but nothing that should have required a cart...and that's when Lo-Kag spots it. In the back of the wagon, all wrapped up in butchers paper... is the majority of the edible parts of a horse.

"Ye mentioned ye was 'ungry 'nuff t'eat one'a these this mornin', so I thought I'd git y'one, he he. "

Gurdis next moves into the house and begins cooking dinner.

"So, how be yer shift? Sorry I be gone so long, th'horse was a terrible pain t'git up 'ere."

What? How dare you have a life outside of these boards?

"Um, there was an little incident. A potential thief got it and made a grab for the decoy. He got it, and then tried to teleport away with it, and I imagine you know what happened next. But what you might not know is that he was able to take the decoy with him. If that had been the real gem, he would have escaped with it, although he wouldn't be in a condition to enjoy it.

ooc
19 on Nature check, +9 Streetwise means I auto-pass the second check. Not that Alexia plans on sharing this with Lo-Kag. Call my music boring, will he?

So, not entirely ooc, apparently.

Gurdis at first seems a bit alarmed that someone got into the house, then she starts chuckling at the situation.

"Ahh! B'wha' I di'nae tell ye is tha' the decoy be not 'ttuned t'the ped'stal, so a'course th'thief be takin' it with'em. Th'gem'd stay put if it were up there an not th'decoy! 'Spose I shudda said as such. An'way, reason I wan' 't 'idden is cause I be thinkin' they be takin' it phys'c'lly; not with some 'port'n spell. Real prollem I sees now be th'fact o'them knowin' yer here if'n that thief survived th'fall or was able to port' before 'e 'it bottom."

Gurdis walks into the kitchen and begins cooking dinner. At about 7pm, the group is served a helping of roasted meats and vegetables, skewered on thin metal rods, along with a bed of rice and an orange glaze. Gurdis asks Lo-Kag how he wants his "meal" prepared, knowing he prefers it raw.

Next Shift
After you respond to this with any dinner RP, go ahead and move into the Day 1: Shift 3 and I'll throw in more rp/events. And please let me know if you guys find this part incredibly boring cause I'm all about havin' fun. If you guys wanna move on, lemme know!

Just after mid-day Grryth wakes up and prepares for his shift.
He grabs a chair from the table and pulls it over by the fireplace, setting himself down between the front door and the soup pot.

"Best that we take greater care from now on. There's no tellin what type of scheme they'll try next time."

As gurdis prepares their diner the aromas catch Grryth nose and he is instantly currious what their host will be serving them tonight.

Whe ndiner is served, Grryth reluctantly leaves his seat by the fireplace and takes a seat at the table. It had been a very long time since he seen a meal prepared this nicely.

"I must say, this is the finest meal I've had in a very long time. It's been too many years of eatin military hard rations. A week of this and yu'll have me spoiled, miss Gurdis. Thanks fer yer hospitatlity and fer yer fine cookin."

As he digs in Grryth can't help himself and is taking seconds long before the others have barely begun eating. After a few minutes Grryth clears his throat to getthe attention of the others.

"Not that this be proper diner conversation, but I was thinkin, now that theys knowing there be a bunch of armed guards in here, they very well might try and come in force. This could turn reall ugly and messy - more than some dirt gettin spilled on the rug is what I'm gettin at. Miss Gurdi, ya might wana take yer valuables and anything breakable outa the main room here and keep it somewhere safer."

Looking at the others Grryth continues "So If we're goina be fightin together I need to know what yer goina be doin durin the fight. I'd assume that Gurdan over there is a stand and fight kinda guy, but what about the rest of ya?

As fer me I've always been the one ta draw the enemies attention while my packmates surround and strike, but I ain't a stand in once spot kinda guy...I like to move around the battlefeild, or in this case the livin room."

"I be thankin' ya Grryth. Nice t'be 'preciated it is!" Gurdis nods along with the rest of Grryth's speach.

"That be a fine idea. I be doin' jus' that after supper. M'room should fit mosta what be in th'livin' room that I be wantin' moved, though alla that c'n be replaced. Me gem can'nae be replaced."

Well, regarding fighting styles, my speciality is movement. I can strike either from melee or at range with the same efficiency, and while the teleporting trap here messes with my style, I can still move myself and my enemies fairly well during a fight. Just let me know if you need me to send a foe in your direction and I'll do so, specially in such a confined place.
