I'm officially retiring my gnome illusionist, Fimbus Leyron Aukits Macklerey Gimmons the Third. In a strange experiment, I introduced him as a temporary NPC in my game, and then promptly lost all interest in playing him. Fimble has 4635 XP.
I'm also officially retiring my elf druid, Quarion Holimion. He is an avatar of the first character I ever played. I've been planning on retiring him since about halfway through his last adventure, Break of Dawn. I even had a story for his retirement, explaining that he took the Amulet of Dawn to the druidic guardian and stayed with it forever, ensuring its protection. The adventure fizzled, however, and that opportunity was handwaved away. Anyway, it's time for him to go. Quarion has 11700 XP.
According to the retirement rules, I can retire them both, add their XP, and drop the level by one. That's 16335 XP (level 6), minus 1 is level 5, with 10000 XP. For now, I will hold off on creating the new ECL 5 character.
If a fellow judge would be so kind as to review this and approve it, I would be most grateful.
I wasn't aware of that rule... that mean if I retire Rinaldo, Opale and Ridik, I could have a level 15 character... now let's find an adventure for such a character

It's capped at the level of the most advanced character retired this way. So in my case, Quarion is level 5, so even if Fimble was level 4, I wouldn't be able to have a level 6 character. It's all in the Guide to Living Enworld thread, towards the bottom, in the section about retiring characters.
I don't think anybody's officially judging A Rather Odd Shovel anymore. We have multiple judges playing the game, so we're staying honest, but I thought it worth mentioning, since eventually we'll need somebody to officially approve everything.
Is there an up to date list of the active characters on LEW at the moment? I'm just wondering, as I might fiddle around with making another character, but want to make sure I won't be selecting something that will be redundant with most of the active populace.

The numbers check out, so we bid farewell to Quarion and mostly farewell to Fimble, and you can start an ECL 5 PC whenever you like.

Apart from the Occupants of the RDI thread, not really, since there are people who've cut back on LEW commitments by playing only one character of their several, or people who are still active at enworld but not at LEW, or... you get the idea.
There are so few players at the moment that it would be difficult to step on any toes. And if you did, so what? Just play whatever you really want to.
That said, we do seem to be a bit short on arcanists, and on clerics that aren't busy.
I agree with Trouvere. I've been playing on LEW for many years, and Rinaldo (Rogue) have been with Tenebrynn (Diviner) and Ashnar (Evoker) for many adventure. I've never seen either of the mage as walking on each other toes, because both was playing a well build character with its own personality and they like it and it gave great moment of roleplay. And even if we felt a few time the lack of figther among our group, we've always been able to get out of it alive... or ressurected... or reincarneted... oh well, we always have been able to return to the Red Dragon Inn.

Well, the overlap was mostly mentioned as with fewer people, I'd prefer to ensure the party is at least mostly balanced. Chances are I'll work on a primarily conjuration focused wizard in the near future. That was something I'd wanted to start awhile back but never got around to it. Granted, most of that was the fact that the Learner PrC looked very cool(despite the obvious logistical problems of new monsters and introducing those abilities to a PC).
That reminds me, this may be a strange question, but Learners retain their ability to cast spells, yes? They simply do not increase with learner levels?

We don't have a specialist Conjurer, so that'd be nice.

Yes.
What an odd class it is. You can enter at 9th as a single class wizard, or at 8th with 5 levels of wizard and two in any full BAB class. I suppose the "optimal" build would be Ranger 1 / Wizard 5 / Eldritch Knight 1 / Learner 10 / Eldritch Knight +3, for BAB +14, base saves +10/+11/+8, 4th level spells and 15+Wis talents/day. Or just Wizard 8 / Learner 10 / Wizard +2, for BAB +12, +6/+10/+10, and 5th level spells. Or you could squeeze some Loremaster in there.
Some time when I have hours and hours and a mild concussion, I'll try to figure out how 10th level casting and 21+Int talents known would compare power-wise with a 20th level Sorcerer.
I take it a Learner who can cast Summon Monster spells has very little difficulty acquiring a repertoire of talents?
Arcanist=Anyone who practices Arcane Magic. Bards, Sorcerors, Wizards, Warlocks, etc...
My idea was going either Elf, Half-Elf or Human and using the Paragon racial classes to increase survivability and grants quicker BAB and additional feats and such, while mostly keeping my casting intact. Don't know whether it was a good plan or not, but I figured the Learner PrC would be a natural candidate for paragon-type traits from those races. Granted, chances I'd ever get to that level are slim, at the moment, lol.

And I wish they could continue! Tenebrynn is my most fun character to play in 7 years on ENWorld and its mostly due to the company he keeps. He tries to double as a 'fighter' when necessary
