Japanese Superhero shows and movies

Are there any Tokusatsu superheroes fans here and if so does anyone know if there are any robotic heroes of alien origin, that has no human host like Ultraman?

I'm not really familiar with the genre, but I think there was one in the 60s that had an actor playing an alien robot. But that's a fuzzy memory of something I only saw part of once...

Iczer One (and Two and three) are androids of some sort. The english dub for the original three OVAs (Fight! Iczer One!) is pretty excruciatingly bad though. The later series are ... not as good.

They are the only ones I can think of off hand though.

It's possible that some of the Sentai characters might qualify, but that's not the sort of show I was ever able to get into.

Alien robot characters with no human involved are something I suspect there is a very, very limited number of.

There's probably more badguys from these shows who fit that description though.

While not of alien origin, the closest thing I can think of is Jet Jaguar- a robot from 1973's Godzilla vs. Megalon. It reprogrammed itself to act independently of its creator & his control device. After a period of autonomy, it reverted to its "controlled" state at the end of the movie.

There is speculation that Toho studios was planning an Ultraman-style series or movie franchise- they already had a (terrible) theme song- but AFAIK, it never materialized.

Further removed, there is also Canti, from FLCL- the robot who emerges from Naota's head.

Alien, Robots who don't pretend to be or look human are pretty much non-existant outside of maybe some of the bad guys.

Tokusatsu is to live-action as Anime is to animation.

I prefer them in its original Japanese version, although the latest ones coming out of Japan are getting more game-based like Yu-Gi-Oh.

I grew up watching on shows like Kikaida and Kikaida 01. Also the original Ju Rangers (aka Five Rangers), Zaboga, etc.

Thanks
What do you mean by "not your typical origin". You need to be more specific about that.

There's loads of characters who get their powers from human technology.
