Jake Gyllenhaal must have the best agent in the business to get him this role, or the casting director is one of the most ethnically and geographically ignorant persons in the business.

But yeah, does look like a darn pretty movie.

I think it was a nice movie. I super love the game in my PSP. I hope they made it that great too. I think Jake is fine with the role. Or, maybe let's criticize it after seeing the movie.

Before folks start bemoaning casting choices, I'd like to point out the Iranian entertainment industry has to deal with the Iranian government. The casting for this very movie showcased what can happen to an Iranian actor taking part in a foreign movie based on their government's whims.

*After playing in Ridley Scott's "Body of Lies", Golshifteh was banned from leaving her home country Iran in February 2008 on her way to London to make a screen test for "Prince of Persia". This was only reported 6 months later when she actually could leave the country. She now lives in Paris, France.
So they tried at least once to get a Iranian star and the actor got screwed by their own country on the deal and mainly because the actor had been in an American produced movie.

Yeah, there are way worse choices than Jake Gyllenhaal.

The Rock.

Stephan Baldwin.

Al Pacino.

Sean Connery.

The list really goes on.

Thanks frankthedm, that news actually improves my disposition towards the movie a ton.

Saw this last night during the football game. Looks pretty good, in the same way the Pirates of the Caribbean films were: fun and overwhelming you with cool visuals. Might be worth renting. (Which for me is praise - I rent maybe two movies a year, and see fewer in the theatre, just due to time constraints.)

I tried to do a little research to find Iranian-American actors that might have fit the role and the only person who even came close was Adrain Pasdar (Nathan Petrelli on Heroes), who is half-Iranian. But really, they needed box office draw, which Gyllenhaal has in spades.
