I'd say "official" is nothing, but "default" is Forgotten Realms, if I were to distinguish between the two terms.

Yeah. They used to get around that with the "fixed point in time" technobabble but they don't do that any more. But all of it's the past for the Doctor, so every alien stopped is altering history.

Umbran started a thread Stan Lee - Excelsior!
I know this is mentioned in the Remembrances thread, but the man had such an impact on genre fiction, I think he deserves his own thread. Mr. Stan Lee, one of the fathers of modern comic books and superheroes, has passed, at the age of 95. https://www.npr.org/2018/11/12/106322838/a-marvel-of-a-man-stan-lee-dead-at-95

They're definitely doing the "teaching history" part of Doctor Who, aren't they? I agree that the Doctor was just a bystander in this episode. All they did is witness events.

I don't have kids myself, but I have some very recent experience with this... One of the players in my regular game wanted his 13-year-old daughter to learn about D&D. But, having your father run the game is pretty lame, and can lead to some weird dynamics, so he asked me to do it - I ran a game for the dad, the kid, a friend of hers, and my wife (who is a kid of unofficial godmother to the...

I appreciate the notes. Yeah I think to me the Eidelon's offensive CR is a bit underrepresented because it has a very solid possibility of knocking out an equivalent level player in a single round....which of course reduces the party's offense against it. Compare that to a stone golem that will take a few rounds to do the same, so it has to endure more punishment. But again I don't think this...

99% of the time the damage type won't matter, so you can deduct the SOAK from the total. The STR bonus applies to his base damage, not to the exploit, so it goes to the bunt damage should that info be needed. The times it will matter are if the target has SOAK to only blunt or only fire, in which case it could only reduce those portions of the total.

Science interjection - you've got it a little messed up. Arthropoods have two separate issues as they get large. One is weight - the materials used in exoskeletons are not particularly strong. It cannot carry the same weight that bone can - so, if they get too big, arthropod exoskeletons will break legs, and the like. This can be gotten around by fundamentally changing the materials used...

Folks need to read up on biology a bit before going into such things. You folks are making this way too complicated, and you are trying too hard to bind an alien species that only superficially looks human to human mechanisms and structures. I mean, think for a second, if a male can bring a baby to term, it quite obviously doesn't mean the same thing as "male" does in humans. Even on Earth,...

Generally speaking, SOAK (and immunities etc.) have to apply to all damage types. The non-SOAKing of armour is slightly awkwardly phrased, though, I'll admit! Basically, if you have *been* poisoned (gas, food, atmosphere, etc.), armour isn't going to help you. If the poison is on a weapon, then sure, armor will help. It's all about the delivery system.

Kings and queens to not typically hold their position due to right of personal arms or personal physical prowess. They hold the role by tradition and political acumen. Any writeup that gives them some understanding of History, a decent Insight, and decent scores in, say, Diplomacy, Deception, and Persuasion would do.

So it sounds like your main concern in the argument isn't the damage of ranged, its the true "range" of ranged. For example in 3e many ranged benefits fell away at 30 feet (Sneak Attack, Point Blank Shot). On the other hand, 5e imposes greater penalty for "moderate ranges". For 3e with your composite bow you suffered a -2 to attack rolls from ranges 110 - 215. In 5e, starting at 150 you...

I could understand the argument coming from 4e, as archers often had trick shots and powers. I would say from 3e you would suffer the same issue, as if the front line is doing their job, the archer does just sit back and wail away.

Its an interesting point. I think the point is valid that there are certain monsters that some party members will struggle to save against. But that said, the effects are not so strong that a high level party cannot recover....often recover immediately. Is that necessarily a "bad thing". I don't necessarily think so. The players take their lumps but still come out triumphant. All of this...

Gygax decided to "show them a thing or two", and gave them an atypical experience - a thing that looked like the typical dungeon crawl, but wasn't. It was tough, in large part, because it defied the playstyle many had become accustomed to. The thing is, we are not many, many years later. We have...

Modifying a stat block here and there is par for the DM course, but if you find your having to do it continuously to generate threat that suggests something is off. And that's where I find myself. Solo Monsters have always been a tough gig in Dnd. I think 4e's later solo monsters (MM3 and beyond) were probably the best showing to date, as they generally had a good mix of offense and defense. In general, my issue with 5e legendary monsters is there lack of threat. Because attacks and damage do not scale heavily with levels, the number of actions/attacks has a much bigger impact on the...

Nobody drives 2 days to work in either country. And what does that have to do with anything? I've been impressed by the distances you can be away from one of the major cities in Australia and South Africa far more than in the US. Anyway, Morrus: So what exactly was the point of this thread?

They'll be reprinting classic modules, including B1 In Search of the Unknown and B2 The Keep on the Borderlands in a hardcover with both the original adventures and 5th Edition information. • 07:26 PM - darjr mentioned Morrus in post WOTC teasing planescape.com
There is a WotC wpn streaming event that day. Presumably for magic. But I've seen others say to tune in for dnd. Also WotC is changing the wpn, so much so that they've warned stores to read the new agreement and sign on board or chance losing wpn status, could be magic related but DnD peeps warned folks working with stores to go take a look. @kenmarable, you got the general idea. @Morrus it's not a cancelation at will, in brazilian law you can cancel a contrat if one of the parts is misrepresenting themselves (an that is the case, all the plans and all the documents that Fire on Board presented to get the contract included assets from all the other companies). Seriously look at the medium article: More damning yet is an English-language document in which the four FMR members make a joint presentation of their credentials for the licence. “We present to Hasbro–Wizards of the Coast the Companies that will be involved in the licensing partnership,” it reads." (https://medium.com/@t.mcgrenery/why-brazilians-are-boycotting-dungeons-dragons-3fa37ce4d8a3#.6wi85o6fb) And right after this they just tell that the other companies withdrawn? The problem if WotC or GF9 do not intervene is that this is going to court, the judge will stop any publishing until the judgement (and that alone may take years, maybe 2 to 5 years). Not only this, but the judge will probably bring GF9...

  • 04:51 PM - Lylandra mentioned Morrus in post A War of the Burning Sky Wiki
Hey you all, I've recently had a short conversation with @Morrus about the possibility of creating an easily visible resource page/thread/whateverfor additional content for both WotBS and Zeitgeist where we all could collect information old and new that has accumulated in these forums over the years. Morrus' suggestion was to create a wiki page for each AP where every registered user could update and add stuff (plus anyone could then remove dead links). So, I've taken some time and started the War of the Burning Sky Resource Collection in the wiki area. As you can see, the page is far from finished, so I'd invite all of you who are interested in WotBS and/or have something to share that you've either created yourself or found in the forums and deem useful to visit the wiki page and contribute! As a side note: I know at least one person who would be more than happy to have a corresponding reource collection for Zeitgeist. However, I am a player in our Zeitgeist campaign and don't want to spoiler myself by digging for resource material as we're cur...

  • 04:16 AM - Rolenet mentioned Morrus in post Yet another Solos fix: "Solo actions"
GURPS and d20 are both core systems You'd think. GURPS d20 is a detailed simulation of Forum Wars pertaining to the d20 Modern and Star Wars d20, as well as the unpublished Vampire d20 and FATE d20. You can play any of several archetypes such as The Clicktroll; the SJG Fanboy, and customize them with Advantages. Included is a conversion table to use 3d6 as a d20. ...nope, I lied, for some reason I have 11 of them. Weird. See? See? Here's my theory. Morrus is actually a collective of South-Asian barely-paid workers that are producing a new kind of virtual currency in shady underground factories. Just check it out; he, sorry they, have five thousand units. FIVE THOUSAND. You can paypal him for more. But you can't cash out. See? They're.. they're mining gold! Virtual fantasy gold! Laugh Morrus! But I have seen through your scheme! You can have my XP, but you won't get my Gold Pieces!

No idea about 'Coins' So you see, I don't know, Tony Vargas's been there for 14 1/2 years. He posted 9,316 times. He could have written Games of Thrones AND the unpublished GURPS d20 in that span. There barely was any Internet back in 2002 in Edenvale (this is right near the river Cionthar, Western Heartlands). ENWorld ran on Gopher. But still, he doesn't know about Gold Coins. That tells us something about this feature. But seriously, does someone knows what they're for? SUMMON Morrus?
  • 12:27 AM - Rolenet mentioned Morrus in post D&D Pronunciation Guide
Morrus, you might have exercised your English in RPG books when you were young. I *learned* English that way. Actually, reading the Car Wars Vehicule Guide 1. So by the time I was twelve, I had an unequaled command of vocabulary pertaining to cars parts, electric engines, and vehicular weaponry. But little grammar. My teachers weren't impressed. However it did help few years later when I passed an oral exam which involved describing a figure. It was a native trapper. I could pull out terms such as "top hat", "fur vest", "leather belt", "musket", "powder horn"... thanks to RPG gear lists... I remember we really botched English D&D terms pronunciation with our French accent. We rolled "funballs" on 1s, played in the "Forgotten Releems", and don't get me started on getting percentile "strengt", "strengf", or "strenx".

  • 03:49 PM - Imaro mentioned Morrus in post 5e Warlord Demand Poll
Morrus said nothing of other classes except for rangers. And I seem to recall that part of the reason for the creation of the sub-forum was not just a matter of their number but also as a way to contain the vitriol of the discussion surrounding the Warlord. People don't have to defend the ranger's right to exist as a class. So are we going to go down the list of every class? Seriously? I think if there was a class that rivaled the warlord in thread count he would have mentioned it... The fact that the number of threads for warlords could at one point fill its own subforum speaks volumes but ok, here we go again... Hey @Morrus do you have any insight into whether the psionic class threads have been as prolific as the warlord threads before Mystics were announced? Also, I'm sure a new class for comparison will arise once we get the answer for psionics...

That is a thing I can do. One-and-a-half pages, CR 17. She's depicted wearing a robe of the archmagi (no armour or sword).Cool. Thanks. I wonder if maybe the mini preview I saw was mislabeled. Another question about her: Does she still have Spellfire? On a different note, how much of the book is adventure and how much of it is a guide to Waterdeep? And are there actually any "generic" rules for running city-based games?

This is... interesting! https://github.com/cyberscribe/d20datascience#d20datascience I'll leave it to better mathematicians than I to unpack, but after plugging in AC, hit mods, HP, damage, and a ton of other stuff, cyberscribe on github seems to conclude that AC and hit mod, and inititiative, don't matter much (except in extremes), but damage and HP are of high importance. "In short, an entity's ability to deliver damage (dam_max) rapidly and take damage over time without dying (hp) are the most significant controlling factors in combat success, and should be considered as the most influential when determining creature challenge rating." Interestingly, the DMG already calls those out as the two key factors in determining CR.

To clarify: *this* book is the core rules of the game and contains setting information for Mega-City One. Future setting books/adventures will include things like Slaine and Nemesis, using the rules in this core rulebook. Florix Grabundae, that makes a lot of sense. Just another question I understand that the focus of the game is for PCs to be Judges and that includes Psi-Division, but I wonder does the rule set allow for PCs as Perps or as Mutants in the Cursed Earth? (or will that come after Strontium Dog)

  • 01:36 PM - David Anderson Jr quoted Morrus in post Super Hero style game
Could you not just extend the mutant powers to higher than the three "levels" they currently have? That would work, but for the game that I would want to run the PCs would need access to more than 1 power. If I'm reading N.O.W. correctly, and I very well might not be, following the current character creation path allows for only 1 mutant power. I would like to see my players have access to 2 or 3 powers. That's what I've been working on.

We'll use the best/cheapest shippings option we can. Australia is a long way away, but we'll do our best. Don't forget New Zealand (it's even further away!). I think there is a company that deals with distribution around Australia/New Zealand - Aetherworks? They've been used by other Kickstarter projects.

That happened months ago. It's gratifying that haven't noticed it until today. For what it's worth, I noticed it at the time it changed, and it's definitely irritating, but not to the point that I'd come here to complain about it, especially if it helps pages load significantly faster. I'll add my discontent to the thread/name/level/badges changes, however. The rest I could probably get used to... losing the badges stings a little
  • 04:10 PM - BMaC quoted Morrus in post News Digest: Paizo Website Issues, Legend of the Five Rings Preview, Judge Dredd RPG Update, Steve Jackson Games News, and more!
Its how we always do our Kickstarters. It’s designed to ensure nobody has to wait months for their rewards; it’s guaranteed and risk free. In other words, we take the risk on ourselves and shell out for development rather than passing it on to the customer, as in a regular Kickstarter, and just fund the print runs. In this case, “finished” means the books are done, and we have our proof copies, but the KS will pay for the print run to get them out to you. When the KS ends, we order the print run an ship right away. No waiting! No chance of non-fulfilment. Cheers Morrus, that makes sense.

It is a demonstrable point in the UX field that initial negative feedback is not as helpful as you might think. In the short term, humans typically react negatively to change they don't themselves initiate. The real question will be how folks feel about it in a few weeks or so, after the shock of unannounced change wears off. That happened months ago. It's gratifying that haven't noticed it until today. I'm having trouble reconciling these two posts. It would seem that we are supposed to wait a few weeks before posting any complaints to make sure they are legitimate and not just a hostile reaction to change, but also that if we wait to long to say we don't like something it is disregarded as not being important because it wasn't brought up soon enough.

  • 05:16 PM - Sadras quoted Morrus in post Gail Gygax Sued By Movie Producer
Seven years is far too short for most IP. Had the rule been 7 years, the Hobbit would have been in the public domain before Tolkien would have been able to finish and publish Lord of the Rings. Life of author + some modest amount should be fine. The current state of affairs is ridiculous, but 7 years would also be ridiculous. Indeed. You can’t even make a film trilogy in that time. A trilogy is nothing compared to the writing of the Winds of Winter. If that 7 year rule had been in effect, a fan-made copy would have hit the shelves by 12 July 2018. #Truestory.

They’re not her children. I don’t know them (I know some folks here do; I’ve met Gail and Gary a few times, but not Luke or Ernie) and I’m sure plenty of people here could elaborate, but I suspect therein lies the problem. Thanks for correcting MOrrus, I have never met Gail, but her social media post is heavily structured with paranoia; "a trip wire" that speaks for itself.

Blimey. Don't worry about the difference between "good" reasons and just having reasons. Takes 21 days to develop or eliminate a habit. Worry when you don't see the folks returning after 14. :) Personally, this site is great and the products are really sound. Very, very few RPG sites last past 2 years let alone 20. KB
