You could try making the actual ship battle a narrative background element while the PCs themselves do something important in the battle. Maybe they have to board the enemy ship and get something while the cannonballs rain down and enemy sailors battle them in the lower decks.

I will generally just miss a show entirely, rather than commit piracy. Yeah. It then starts getting to having to pay close attention to each service and ask whether you're really getting enough content from them to justify the expense. CBS All Access is a fine example. I haven't watched any of Discovery, because it is not worth it to me to pay for a single show that gets mixed reviews.

Netflix and Hulu carrying other people's content made sense when streaming services were new, and the content creators didn't want to be in the business of streaming. Magic in WOIN is much more low-magic than the super-high magic of D&D. If you wanted to replicate D&D's magical prevalence and availability, you'd need to reduce the MP cost of magic in general across the board.

If you are a troll, or otherwise not in the dialogue in good faith, we don't need to tolerate your position. Yes, you are closer to death, but you are starting to pull out the stops, and capable of greater feats. I find a good example in FATE based games, in which you can take Consequences instead of taking stress boxes. The stress boxes can take you out of the game, the consequences make doing...

The acid blood isn't meant to be a strong combat ability. If an ogre was dealing significant amounts of damage to foes every time it was hit, it would be very overpowered. It'll hurt maybe a peasant, but not a hero. Mooks are vulnerable to such things as they die with one hit.

There's an interesting bit of human psychology. If you have a resource, and are unlikely to get more of it, you hoard that resource. You never use it, because if you do, then you won't have it at that critical time. But then since you aren't in the habit of using it... you forget about it, and don't use it when you really should. So, you wind up with a chicken and egg thing - if the GM...

Printed, probably about 100 - I have periodically purged over the years, donating to good friends especially for books I haven't cracked open in 5 years or more. Digitally, I literally have thousands and thousands -- collective worth however is quite different because a lot of them I've picked up on Humble Bundles, Bundles of Holding, charity sales, etc. and I might have thousands of books which...

This pretty much fits me as well. In my case, it's about 75%/25% first person/third person, I prefer first person, but there are times where either I'm at a loss for specific words (I suck at seducing NPCs, I got no game ;)) or intent needs to be clearer.

It rose from the depths of a dozen years and more.... I switch back and forth, and it depends on context. In live-action play, it is mostly 1st person. At a tabletop, I try for mostly 1st person in in depicting the character's speech, and a mix when depicting action. Often enough there's a need to differentiate between the Character and the player, and then it is 3rd person - GM: "Are you...

And, surprising nobody, The Punisher and Jessica Jones are also now both cancelled. To clarify - Jessica Jones is ending after its third season airs. Which is nice. I dunno if they have a chance to somehow put a bow on the end of it.

So far, I've seen an ancestral guardian Barbarian, a Swashbuckler Rogue, A Hex blade warlock, and a Divine Soul Sorcerer. Of all of these, the Divine Soul was the most lackluster - but I think this has as much to do with the Sorcerer being slightly too short on spells known as anything. All subclasses I've seen so far live up to the other choices in the PH, and I haven't seen any that are just...

Can you please investigate and see why some (all?) other users can not access the link? Thanks

Actually, according to Christian doctrine, Christ is God. Discussing the game stats for a deity actively revered by somewhere around a billion folks might not be the best idea on a forum that's Grandma-friendly and has a no politics rule (which, presumably, also applies to its first cousin of religion). Only for trinitarians. Non trinitarian Christians, Jesus is a man, and closer to an angel than to being God, as such. A perfect Favored Soul. Lets ask @Morrus , before continuing any discussion of the particulars of religious figures as examples of character concepts, though. I don't see the harm, as long as we keep it to the context of DnD, and using them as examples. Ie, as long as we talk about them the same way you'd discuss Odin. I worship Odin, but I'm not gonna get offended by a discussion of what class we use to represent him in DnD. Even though the right answer is clearly a Warlock variant with himself as the Patron. "Sacrificed myself to myself" from the Havamal. Also, he used magics normally only used by female practitioners, and did crazy stuff like ripping his eye out to gain knowledge. I'd either use the Hexblade or Raven Queen as a base, or steal bits from both. Raven Queen lets him grab Tome for the added spells and rituals, and still have Ravens. Harder to give him two wolves, though. Maybe make up a Conjure X spell to give him that just summons twin wolves? Definately some divination in the spell list. Other than that, j...

Morrus I don't know. I'm not a current writer but I do think getting that module upfront in AL is pretty good. I think I heard WotC used to pay $700 a mod and give them away, essentially. Now I've heard many of the authors are making more than that, sometimes much more. And I've heard positive things from the AL authors. Though I imagine I might be biased somehow. Are there any AL authors here that prefer the older way, or some other way? I'd appreciate any thoughts.

  • 08:29 PM - mach1.9pants mentioned Morrus in post Reference request for EN5ider articles
Hi Morrus I've got a small request for EN5ider, I guess it probably applies to Trailseeker too. References to other articles are done in this format: * Ari Marmell, “Volumes of Forgotten Lore: Divine,” EN World EN5ider, https://www.patreon.com/posts/ volumes-of-lore-3140034 Which is great except it would be really, really useful if references included the EN5ider number, as that is how I can easily find the PDF I'm after rather than having to search for a term or looking through my EN5ider folder. In this case I searched my folder for "Lore" (got too many hits) tried "divine" (wasn't in that search), so I then tried "Volumes of Forgotten Lore" and got this result: 83238 So then I had to open them both to figure out which is the correct one, because the first one was Arcane. So if the references were like this: * Ari Marmell, “Volumes of Forgotten Lore: Divine,” EN World EN5ider 31, https://www.patreon.com/posts/ volumes-of-lore-3140034 It would be a lot easier. "Number 31...

There is a WotC wpn streaming event that day. Presumably for magic. But I've seen others say to tune in for dnd. Also WotC is changing the wpn, so much so that they've warned stores to read the new agreement and sign on board or chance losing wpn status, could be magic related but DnD peeps warned folks working with stores to go take a look. • 06:27 PM - Farrem mentioned Morrus in post Brazilian D&D Translators Fall Out Over Translation Rights
@kenmarable, you got the general idea. @Morrus it's not a cancelation at will, in brazilian law you can cancel a contrat if one of the parts is misrepresenting themselves (an that is the case, all the plans and all the documents that Fire on Board presented to get the contract included assets from all the other companies). Seriously look at the medium article: More damning yet is an English-language document in which the four FMR members make a joint presentation of their credentials for the licence. “We present to Hasbro–Wizards of the Coast the Companies that will be involved in the licensing partnership,” it reads." (https://medium.com/@t.mcgrenery/why-brazilians-are-boycotting-dungeons-dragons-3fa37ce4d8a3#.6wi85o6fb) And right after this they just tell that the other companies withdrawn? The problem if WotC or GF9 do not intervene is that this is going to court, the judge will stop any publishing until the judgement (and that alone may take years, maybe 2 to 5 years). Not only this, but the judge will probably bring GF9...

  • 04:51 PM - Lylandra mentioned Morrus in post A War of the Burning Sky Wiki
Hey you all, I've recently had a short conversation with @Morrus about the possibility of creating an easily visible resource page/thread/whateverfor additional content for both WotBS and Zeitgeist where we all could collect information old and new that has accumulated in these forums over the years. Morrus' suggestion was to create a wiki page for each AP where every registered user could update and add stuff (plus anyone could then remove dead links). So, I've taken some time and started the War of the Burning Sky Resource Collection in the wiki area. As you can see, the page is far from finished, so I'd invite all of you who are interested in WotBS and/or have something to share that you've either created yourself or found in the forums and deem useful to visit the wiki page and contribute! As a side note: I know at least one person who would be more than happy to have a corresponding reource collection for Zeitgeist. However, I am a player in our Zeitgeist campaign and don't want to spoiler myself by digging for resource material as we're cur...

GURPS and d20 are both core systems You'd think. GURPS d20 is a detailed simulation of Forum Wars pertaining to the d20 Modern and Star Wars d20, as well as the unpublished Vampire d20 and FATE d20. You can play any of several archetypes such as The Clicktroll; the SJG Fanboy, and customize them with Advantages. Included is a conversion table to use 3d6 as a d20. ...nope, I lied, for some reason I have 11 of them. Weird. See? See? Here's my theory. Morrus is actually a collective of South-Asian barely-paid workers that are producing a new kind of virtual currency in shady underground factories. Just check it out; he, sorry they, have five thousand units. FIVE THOUSAND. You can paypal him for more. But you can't cash out. See? They're.. they're mining gold! Virtual fantasy gold! Laugh Morrus! But I have seen through your scheme! You can have my XP, but you won't get my Gold Pieces!

  • 05:04 AM - Umbran quoted Morrus in post Check Out The Cover of Swords of the Serpentine From Pelgrane
I’ve played a session of Timewatch at a convention. I’m assuming this is a fantasy version of that? Same core ruleset? It is based on the same core ruleset. But Timewatch (like most Gumeshoe games) is at its heart an investigative game. Swords of the Serpentine has given it a lean towards the cinematic action adventure you'd expect from Conan or Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser. In most Gumshoe games, you spend points of investigative skill pools to find things out. In SotS, you do more spending points to *do* things.
  • 04:19 AM - robus quoted Morrus in post Review Dragon Heist, Mad Mage, and Ravnica!
The demographics are a lot younger than they used to be. And that's just people who have accounts, of course. The *readership* is the important stat (it's a news site, primarily, not a forum) and the are skewing a LOT younger these days. that’s interesting. I occasionally hit the front page to see what’s up, but I mostly visit for the forum chatter.
  • 02:01 AM - MoonSong quoted Morrus in post Do you believe we are alone in the universe?
It’s a common fallacy known as “god of the gaps”. Better explained as “if I can’t explain it, it must be magic”. I'm coming more from "this 'rational' explanation needs the violation of so many fundamental physical laws and common sense that is no different from the emotional and irrational one." Anyway I don't think of myself as rational anyway so it makes more sense to me. There's no practical way for alien visitors to exist, not without violating the lightspeed limit and reversing entropy. Nothing short of actual magic can change that, and in real life magic is too pathetic, dangerous and difficult to allow it. So whatever it is that we see in the skies is anything but alien in nature.
  • 12:28 AM - Jester David quoted Morrus in post 3 New Official Starfinder Classes Out For Playtesting
That’s what all playtest feedback is like. Well, aside from the 90% which is “I skimmed through the book. Here are my house rules.” As long as the survey is well designed, it should be able to filter down to the solid playtesters. You don’t need all that many. With a longer playtest you might be able to get two or three sessions of play in. There’s just more opportunity for people to be solid playtesters. Especially when you’re not trying to compete with Christmas and New Years. (I normally play every two weeks, but over the next month and a half I’ll be lucky to squeeze in a game.) And with more time, you’d have more opportunities to work in the character to test, and perhaps even see play at multiple levels, rather than trying to awkwardly force it into an already planned session. A slightly longer playtest at a different time could result in twice the feedback.

  • 07:30 PM - Jester David quoted Morrus in post Review Dragon Heist, Mad Mage, and Ravnica!
Doesn't really matter, though, does it? We're not trying to represent anybody, we're just a happy little niche online community talking amongst itself. Not generally no. What we do here is fine. I generally like it here. But it is worth reminding people that the enthusiasm over new D&D books isn’t necessarily low. Just low here. And a low number of reviews here doesn't translate into a general lack of interest with the larger audience. And extrapolating from the lack of interest here to making statements about sales and possible alternate sources of the revenue is pretty dubious logic.
  • 07:27 PM - Umbran quoted Morrus in post Do you believe we are alone in the universe?
Agreed - but the emotional responses wouldn't matter if we didn't have the ability to make the tools of our own destruction. That's tautological, in that *any* ability of an animal can be the cause of its destruction. You can walk? Well, then you can walk off a cliff, fall, and die. Do you blame your legs for walking off the cliff? Silly legs! I should never have had legs! Should have stuck with fins, because fins couldn't have had me walk off a cliff! Moving onto dry land was my problem. Nobody ever dies in the water, right?

Doesn't really matter, though, does it? We're not trying to represent anybody, we're just a happy little niche online community talking amongst itself. It matters if you are trying to gauge interest in and success of a product. Which is what Jester was getting at. But, I'm happy to stay here conversing with my 300,000 closest friends. :-) Also, Discord drives me nuts. I've forced myself to use it a few times because some Kickstarter creators have the best fan support on that site and some on-line games require its use. But it is just awful for having conversations over time and mining prior conversations for information. Same with Twitter. Forums like this will continue to play a role for those who want to engage in more substantive online conversations. Now, get off my lawn. Wait, sorry Morrus, this is your lawn.

The de-aging on Sam Jackson is astonishing. It's come a long way in a really short time. Maybe one day we can get that in real life with CRISPR. It's really that or something like BioShock. Trailer looks good.
  • 05:07 PM - Umbran quoted Morrus in post Do you believe we are alone in the universe?
Climate change, AI, more advanced weapons of mass destruction... our intelligence could prove to be the exact opposite of a survival trait. With respect, the thing that is currently endangering us is not our intelligence, but our lack thereof. Our current predicament is based in emotional responses, not reasoned and intelligent responses.
  • 03:16 PM - Maxperson quoted Morrus in post Do you believe we are alone in the universe?
That’s a possibility, but it’s not assured. *shrug* None of us know. We’re all just offering at-best semi-informed guesses. Climate change, AI, more advanced weapons of mass destruction... our intelligence could prove to be the exact opposite of a survival trait. It might even be the answer to Fermi’s Paradox. I agree. On the other hand, scientific advances might enable us to scrub the pollutants out of the atmosphere in 10 or 20 years. Science is like a snowball rolling downhill. It keeps progressing bigger and faster. Maybe it smashes us. Maybe it smashes our problems. As you say, none of us know.
  • 02:33 PM - Maxperson quoted Morrus in post Do you believe we are alone in the universe?
Briefly. The cockroaches will outlast us when our “survival” trait kills us. That's a possibility, but it's not assured. I can tell you this, though. Intelligence might get us off our plane in the future to somewhere else or multiple somewhere elses, where we can survive, enabling us to survive the expansion of the sun, planet killing asteroids, comets, etc. Cockroaches and every other non-intelligent species will all ultimately die when the planet does.
  • 04:55 AM - Jester David quoted Morrus in post Thirteenth Doctor - First Season - Thoughts? (SPOILERS WELCOME)
I don't think so. Not in the way that Tennant and Smith did. I’d disagree. The 3rd and 6th Doctors were all about the bombast and claiming authority in the situation. But most of the Doctors are a little more subtle. The 13th still reminds most of the 5th, who was the more soft spoken figure. Or the 7th when he’s being disarmingly friendly. But recent Doctors have turned it up a bit more as it acknowledges the Doctor’s reputation and impact. When I saw the Capaldi run I couldn't help but analyze everything that happened. But watching the new season I've been doing that less and less. And that's a good thing. I've just been enjoying the show. I like Capaldi, but it really wasn't easy viewing. Whittaker is fun. Modern Who is very much like a roller coaster. It works best when you sit back and just enjoy the thrill ride. But it can take a long time to make a fairly simple journey.

I don’t really see any SW stuff except the movies. Sounds like a *great* joke though! Dude, what’s with the passive aggressiveness? Calm down, man! I haven’t heard your joke before. :) Poor Manny Both-Hanz gets zero respect...

Seems a lot of people agree that Attack of the Clones is the worst. So much so that they keep calling it The Clone Wars instead! I would correct it in my post, but frankly I don't give a damn. That movie does not deserve any more attention from me.

I must've missed that long standing joke! Good one... You're telling me you never heard anything along the lines of, "How many Bothans died, tho?" in reference to espeionage, sabotage, etc, when discussing Star Wars media (and sometimes when discussing non SW media) from games to EU books? Really? That's pretty weird to me, since I've been hearing/seeing those jokes in pretty much every venue, online or off, I've ever discussed Star Wars or general nerd stuff, my entire life.

He was originally dead in the TIE fighter crash. They brought him back as a late script change during filming. I figured as much. That movie really feels like they had a completely different second half in mind when they filmed the first half.
