Sure. Any location - whether big like Twitter or small like here - is just a potential sparking point for a bigger effect. Usually it isnít, but sometimes something happens, and careers end and brands get damaged. One guy at a company staying quiet for a bit is prudent.l, lest it escalate (which it probably wouldnít, but itís not a risk worth taking).

Hadoken and Kamehameha.. question is are they class based or racial is first question. Let's work on the Hadoken... most likely a Ki based attack.. so it'd be based on your Wisdom.. And if I remember correctly.. takes time to charge.. so a bare minimum it's a full round action, with a base damage of say.. 2d6 (so if able to learn at level 1, it's more damaging than many weapons), and say + Wis...

In 13th Age, by default the party can "flee" at any point in a fight, and all the characters survive (unless they're already dead). The penalty is a "campaign loss," as in, something goes badly in the game world as a result. The rule doesn't prevent all PC deaths, but it's a big help. Back in 2008, I wrote up that rule and posted it on Gleemax, the short-lived digital platform that Wizards of the...

Yeah, but Klyden's not a crew member, so we don't expect to see him live up to the Trek standard. He also serves as a window into Moclan culture, especially when Bortus is willing to question it. I had kind of a Riker vibe going on too since there were similarities at first, but then they went in a very different direction with it.

I'm sure the sheer amount of photography of that building over the last century means no detail will be left undocumented. Copying it will be easy, as long as they can spend the money. That said, isn't it a private building owned by the Catholic Church? They don't need donations or French taxpayer money to rebuild it. They have billions.

Save or Die effects aren't great for monsters because there's too much riding on a single roll. They're not great for player-character powers because they invalidate the way most characters bring down enemies: hit point attrition. In 13th Age, we picked up a rule from Dave Hargrave's Arduin Adventure game. Save-or-die effects have a hit point cap. The death lord PC in our game uses the "Sever...

My game runs twice a month, in theory, but sometimes we have to miss a session. Moreover, it is a Gumshoe game, so there's a significant amount of investigation involved. Remembering those details for weeks or a month is more than I can ask of the players, so we definitely do at least a, "When we last left our intrepid crew...." and more reminders if they ask for it. Depends on what you mean by, "literary." There's some who will use it to mean, "of a quality and/or style similar to critically acclaimed literature." Much like we talk about a game having "cinematic action" if we feel it evokes the style and feeling and imagery of Hollywood action movies. From context, I expect that's in the ballpark of what you mean. With that qualifying presumption,...

You can test it, if you have the courage. Roll 100 times (or more, if you like), and do a little math. https://rpg.stackexchange.com/questions/70802/how-can-i-test-whether-a-die-is-fair Note before you try this that having one's preferred narrative contradicted sometimes has adverse results. It works out to about 10% total, pretty consistently. Half of that is fees, the other half is failed pledges. That figure tracks pretty much standard across Kickstarters of all sizes. For example, my Judge Dredd Kickstarter made £148K in pledges. The amount we actually received was £133K.

Agreed. Local schools and libraries, Boy's and Girl's Clubs, Scouts, and other youth organizations may be able to take these off your hands in a constructive and tax-deductible manner.

Except that this is really not true. It isn't an effective randomizer if it isn't effectively random. What you *know* about the randomness is not relevant. Randomness exists outside yoru perception of that randomness. This becomes clear with the hypothetical die that rolls 20 nintey percent of the time, and 17 ten percent of the time. The fact that you don't know it doesn't change the fact...

And the superstitions - your brother should understand better than most that this is how the human mind works - including his own. Way better to get your fill of magical thinking while playing a harmless entertainment game, than when...

How many rounds do your fights last? I'm playing a cleric - I get maybe one roll a round, and not even that if I am casting spells that have a save (like ye standard Sacred Flame), rather than a spell attack roll. Ain't nothing wrong with that.

I'm big on accessories and things to make my game better. I'm currently collecting all of Paizo's flip-mats (they are SO useful!) and I bought Art & Arcana. If I spend money on Kickstarter, it's usually something really cool that's caught my eye. I don't buy much digital -- I'm very fond of physical stuff.

No, they have a die they *think* rolls high. Remember, you are talking about a species that thinks that their favorite sports team will perform badly if we wear the wrong socks on game day. It is much more likely to be perception rather than reality - unless they actually rolled a bunch of times, recorded the rolls, and did a statistical analysis, their perception is subject to all the usual...

Wait, now people are claiming it's not even SPF who posted in this thread? The man has a Facebook account, among other internet footprints, and he's posted some of the exact same things there, as well as actually discussing his participation in this thread. And he writes (or did write) for this site, which means he already has an established forum handle and Morrus knows his IP address. Jesus fried chicken...

...o started the thread then replied "You need to read up on the concept of "plus" threads if you think I want an echo chamber, or if you don't see the very valid reasons why the site supports such threads. If you want to keep discussing this that's fine, but I will need to ask you to start a new thread to do it." A second user said they doubted the premise of the thread was possible, and was told again "This is a plus thread. If you want to argue against the premise of the thread, start a new one." When questioned on that, the poster then said, "Questioning the point of the thread is exactly what you don't get to do in a plus thread." Can a user now declare a thread they start to be designated a "plus" thread and therefore police their thread for anyone who questions a premise of the topic? Are we now supposed to always start a new thread if we question the premise of a designated "plus" thread? It's possible I missed that new rule. I asked elsewhere and someone mentioned Morrus had discussed the possibility of such a thing but it had never been enacted as a rule as far as they knew. So, is this a thing now?

  • 05:34 AM - Ancalagon mentioned Morrus in post Most popular class/race combos
Two comments: 1: I note that the "spread" of classes is much less dramatic than the race spread. The most popular class is a bit more than twice as popular as the least popular class. That's a good thing IMO! Race wise however, the spread is what, 12-13 fold? That's huge. Even is we exclude the non PHB races, the spread remains about 5-fold. I have to say that ... I'm ok with that. I would be far more concerned if the situation was reversed 2: Morrus : this is very cool info, but I'm curious why you are re-posting it?
  • 01:54 AM - Yaarel mentioned Morrus in post Most popular class/race combos
@Morrus Did the top 10 list accidentally leave out the Elf Wizard? The chart says there are 2744 Elf Wizards and 2568 Human Wizards. This means, the Elf Wizard is a more popular combo than the Human Wizard.

  • 06:17 PM - CapnZapp mentioned Morrus in post I gotta ask: the "laugh" points, are they meant as appreciation or as mockery??
Morrus: this issue doesn't go away. I'm going to report a series of my own posts where a user clicks laugh (yes, I know the button is called "laugh with this post") even though my remarks are not in any sense made with humor in mind. In short, I find it impossible to interpret this as anything else than mockery. I am writing this post because I know you are busy and might have a mod handle the reporting, so you might not even see the series of reported posts. (I need to post this first so I can include a link in my reports for your moderation convenience) If you or your mods redtext the user to stop abusing the laugh functionality all is well in the world. But I am ressurrecting this thread to clearly flag that it is not a new issue, and it remains a serious one. I've gotten dozens of laugh points I could have done well without, and I feel that if I do not bring thus back up to your attention it will never stop. I can't be alone in getting these points that only burn. If y...

  • 08:06 AM - Ancalagon mentioned Morrus in post Let's Look At Alchemy In Pathfinder 2!
There was apparently a podcast that divulged more information (I don't have a link at the moment) - Alchemical items have "levels" from 1 to 20 - Bombs were supposed to require two hands to use, but that's being changed to one hand Also from the comments, PF2 will NOT use item weight, but a "bulk" system similar to Star finder. Another comment is that alchemists can get more resonance, which is rather important because they need it to use magical items AND wield alchemy. The start of day items, as you guys have guessed, are subsidized for a better rate if you can predict ahead of time which items you will need and make duplicates. Plus, the alchemist gets a class feature that adds extra resonance and scales, Intel for you Morrus ! :)

  • 01:30 AM - jgsugden quoted Morrus in post Critical Role's Kickstarter Breaks $1,000,000 In About An Hour!
They could. And suddenly they have double the work to do. And in four years, people are getting angry. Note that my suggestions did not require significant time or cost. In fact, beyond the cost of a pie, a VHS, and perhaps a copy of Paranoia, there is no signfiicant costs... and they could do the things during the normal CR time. Itís easy to come up with ideas for stretch goal, until you realise youíre working solidly for the next 10 years to produce them, clawing after that final KS ďscoreĒ as though it itself is the goal. That is true when you continue to add big materials without planning, but some of their current goals are 'near no cost' activites, like having people run a one shot. They can add a lot of those things and release them over a full year. It is very easy to find fun things to add here that are cost, time and resource sensitive. Itís why I donít do stretch goals on my Kickstarters. Sure, I get a lower total; but I also fulfill the Kickstarter and then move on. No c...

I appear to be addicted to Paizoís flip-mats. Theyíve become my #1 indispensable accessory. I use both the Pathfinder ones (for any fantasy game) and the Starfinder ones (for any sci-do game). Just need some ďmodernĒ ones to finish off the set! What accessories do you find indispensable? (Anybody who says ďdiceĒ will be ejected into space).Same as you. But also poker chips. They fit nicely under minis and I can place the same on a condition or spell card on the side for reference. I also have rings from rings binders - buy bags on Amazon cheap - for other effects. Hershey's Kisses, two types, for fights where there are minions and we play "eat what you kill" rules.
  • 09:55 PM - LordEntrails quoted Morrus in post John Wick Sells 7th Sea to Chaosium
Most Kickstarters arenít million dollar products. Theyíre small projects to get a creatorís dream project made. Stretch goals, and all that stuff, were traditions invented by the users; they arenít part of the Kickstarter infrastructure. I know :) And I think for many of those small project KS is awesome, and works really well. It's just that the same approach doesn't scale, or at least not as well. I suspect most KSs involve a few hundred hours and a small (~$1k?) of collateral or up front cost. But, we know when a KS hits some number ($100k?) they are starting to involve thousands of hours, half a dozen people, several other companies (printers, shipping, etc) and those project require a different process. (EDIT: which does not mean they can not be successful KSs!) Anyone have any numbers on the distribution of KS amounts, fulfillment rates, etc?

Youíre talking about self-publishers, not freelance writers. The latter write under a contract for a company and their manuscript is commissioned, edited, and published by that company. Self-publishers doesnít get paid a word rate . Yup. You're correct. I used to edit for Troll Lord Games, but I could not keep up with all the freelance writers who didn't know how to write. DM's Guild is a different venue. I'm honored to have received a directly reply from you. I've really enjoyed reading WOIN!
  • 09:46 PM - LordEntrails quoted Morrus in post John Wick Sells 7th Sea to Chaosium
Thing is, that's exactly what Kickstarter was meant for - creators, not businesspeople. Absolutely. But it still takes management skills to handle a million dollar project, whether you are a creator or not. My point was not to disparage anyone, or even KS in general, only to comment that "removing the middleman" doesn't mean creators will necessarily be able to get their 'products' to their consumers more successfully. Though I would love to see numbers from in-depth research.

Yeah. Joker and Vader. The two great iconic pop culture villains. Nobody comes close to those two. If you don't know yet, this movie isn't going to help you. I imagine if decades of comics and movies haven't had the desired effect, one more ain't gonna make any difference. You never know. All it takes is one good story. edit: Inversion of famous character lines aside, I do like the Joker as part of the reason why Batman is needed. I despise the notion that Batman is the reason that his own rogue's gallery exists, so I like it when there is a joker that's been around since before Bruce lost his parents. I just don't understand what could possibly be compelling about him as an actual character. There's literally nothing there. He..isn't actually a character. He's a talking plot device.

Maybe I should just give all members the ability to change all thread tags. What could possibly go wrong? Can you restrict it to only allowing people to provide a tag where there is none? I seldom see threads with an "incorrect" tag, but frequently see threads where somebody neglected to put a tag (maybe they forgot, or thought it was unnecessary because the forums were hithertofore organized by edition).
  • 09:03 PM - Myrdin Potter quoted Morrus in post John Wick Sells 7th Sea to Chaosium
Yeah, I have to agree. In its current iteration, Chaosium is not only good at fulfilling Kickstarters, they have a reputation for saving and fulfilling other companyís Kickstarters. I agree that they have fulfilled the one Runequest KS that they took over, but even the third parties they have a license too had a bad rep for finishing. There was an article on this site about that. For the Runequest one they took over, they provided the books but said the other stretch goals were not going to happen. I cannot find any KS the new group has started and run successfully, so I canít see how they could have a good reputation there. I provided a link to the one I am aware of and it is years late.
  • 08:51 PM - Yunru quoted Morrus in post D&D forums have merged?
Side note -- you can sort threads by tag. I don't know. Clicking the 5E filter (or whatever) doesn't feel like that much of a burden to me. But that's just my opinion. But at that point you might as well have had a subforum. It has the same effect, except now it's less newbie friendly (and relies on people actually tagging their post).

Maybe I should just give all members the ability to change all thread tags. What could possibly go wrong? If you're lucky, it'll only go wrong to the point where we wind up with tags like [You're it!]

Your anecdote doesn't match mine. Not trying to dispute your personal experience, but really? Your friends would only buy books for one setting, and refuse to buy any books from any other setting? That just seems truly bizarre to me. Among my friends each of us had a preferred setting that we would focus on (and use when that person DM'd a campaign if they didn't want to use their own homebrew world) but all of us would happily buy any book from any setting that caught our interest (we had 8 people in our core D&D group of friends and out of those 8, 1 was our primary Dungeon Master who ran our primary campaign, but 4 others also routinely ran our own long-term campaigns as well, and 1 other who also ran a short-term campaign and the occasional one-shot games when the feeling struck him. At the time I just thought that was normal for D&D groups, but from what I've heard online since then I guess it is highly unusual?) The only reason we didn't all buy up every book TSR released was ...

I havenít moved all the threads yet. So far itís just a name change. Why, Oh why, did you do this? Makes the forum difficult to use. Please reverse the merger! Thanks
  • 02:19 PM - JeffB quoted Morrus in post Which retroclone/OSR game is closest to AD&D 2E?
I have a large 2E collection (and other editions). I was curious what third parties had done to evolve or improve the core rules. Ah. I see. The only retro "clone" IMO to really take the AD&D system and improve/evolve/unify the mechanics of the game is Astonishing Swordsmen & Sorcerers of Hyberborea.
