He may be the first in that conflict, but certainly, there have been other conflicts. The policy exists for a reason, right? A lot of people would look at this sort of thing and tell us it is a plot hole. I look at it and try to figure out what the fact of it implies about the world (okay, galaxy) in question. Why is it that this *hasn't* gotten around so that everyone knows Union...

Ah yes, but in 2e that whole 5% thing is buried in the spell description for enchant an item, and isn't often repeated in the rules for magic item creation themselves, and isn't mentioned at all in the description for permanency IIRC. I didn't even know about some of this detail until a discussion about this a few years ago over on Dragonsfoot. Honestly, it should be somewhere in between....

Thinking about it for a minute, I don't think it is such a problem. We must accept that, as a practical matter, word doesn't get around. Why? Because it is a very complicated system, must be deployed fleet-wide, and known to every single person with relevant codes - this isn't a tightly held secret, as there are too many people involved. And, it isn't really plausible that he's the first...

You're getting a percentage of the points needed to get to your next grade. You could ignore the point totals altogether and just say "one-tenth of a new grade". Everybody is essentially receiving the exact same amount - an equal fraction towards their next grade. If you base it off an average party grade (which is fine, if you prefer that), then people aren't getting the same effective gain...

Using the standard array and the "default" equipment given for each class and background, you can make a 5e level 1 character in approximately 10 minutes. I can't think of getting any faster while still maintaining a sense of meaningful choice about your character. For some, the existing character options, even including multiclassing and feats, are still too small. Personally, I'd really love to...

I wasn't the one who said, "the ultimate point of character creation isnít about character custimization but instead itís about having a character you can play in game." If it is just about having "a character," then why not just do it over and over again? Make an absolute statement, and reap the rewards of pure logic. Leave yourself some wiggle room, and you can avoid such traps.

Rolling in order only creates viable characters in a statistical sense. So, while decision points are slow, in the long run it probably beats having to roll in order several times before a character is generated that doesn't die when an orc sneezes on it. It is a question of whether you front-load your time expenditure or not. I prefer to do the job right once, rather than do quick...

Fair, though as I recall, previous versions of the 5e SRD had more limited content, more akin to what's in Basic. I glanced at the license, but I didn't probe into the content yesterday. If you wanna be really picky, WotC uses version 1.0a, released in 2000. I was not confident enough that *NO OTHER* versions existed out there to assert such.

So, anyone can write to the system, and even do something interesting with large changes (like Mutants and...

Hold on a second. Let us be clear - with a finite, comprehensible ruleset, there *will* be some options that are better than others. Full stop. Those that like doing deep dives into rules options *will* find them. No game designer can avoid this. It follows, then, that the game can't/shouldn't be designed around preserving all the concepts for optimizers, as it is not a tractable task. ...

I still fail to see how comparing 5e wizards to 1e ones makes a bit of difference to this argument....considering monsters, casters, and noncasters have all had radical differences since that time. The simply question is....are 5e wizards capable of equivalent contribution to the campaign at 1st - 3rd level compared to a fighter? In my viewpoint, the answer is an immediate yes. Are they...

Its also the "rain on the caster's parade" spell. Few things have put the big frown on my caster players than when they cast and I say "the enemy casts counterspell". There's nothing more a player hates than to do nothing in a round of combat, especially if there are a lot of players (I have 6).

Let try an example to ensure we are all reading the table right. So lets assume you need a 5 or better to hit, and do an average of 10 dmg before the feat is applied. So the formula is 5.5 - .25X. So that 5.5 - .25 * 10 = 5.5 - 2.5 = 3. So this means that my average damage increases by 3. Now where I'm confused is when you defined average damage. So for example if I had a greatsword...

Since someone mentioned Ratchet and Clank.. Here's some Ratchet and Clank items... OmniWrench The OmniWrench is a versatile item that is a useful tool, can be magnetized to pickup nearby metallic items, used as a melee weapon and can be thrown and returns to the user. Most follow a basic design, and most can be upgraded with several upgrades giving them greater capabilities. The...

Yeah, I just discovered that - while I ran into some documentation that said it was free on Prime if you were willing to watch commercials, perhaps that was old. Now, I must pay. *sad trombone*

  • 08:06 AM - Ancalagon mentioned Morrus in post Let's Look At Alchemy In Pathfinder 2!
There was apparently a podcast that divulged more information (I don't have a link at the moment) - Alchemical items have "levels" from 1 to 20 - Bombs were supposed to require two hands to use, but that's being changed to one hand Also from the comments, PF2 will NOT use item weight, but a "bulk" system similar to Star finder. Another comment is that alchemists can get more resonance, which is rather important because they need it to use magical items AND wield alchemy. The start of day items, as you guys have guessed, are subsidized for a better rate if you can predict ahead of time which items you will need and make duplicates. Plus, the alchemist gets a class feature that adds extra resonance and scales, Intel for you Morrus ! :)

  • 06:24 PM - iserith mentioned Morrus in post Block Feature Issue
Hello Morrus - My understanding is that the block feature is two-way. If I block someone, I can't see their posts or respond to them and vice versa. While that does appear to be working for posters that have blocked me, it does not appear to be the case for posters I have blocked. They have been able to view and quote my posts and I have also received PMs from posters I have blocked. Would you kindly take a look at this for me? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hey Morrus, I am interested in submitting some short introductory and low level adventures to En5ider, but I have 1 question for you and the community: Do I need to provide the starting settlement? As in, I wish to submit some adventures that can be 'tacked on' to a settlement of choice by the DM, such as the ones already detailed on EN5ider. Would DMs be happy with this? Would I refer to people in their role, or still give them names etc? Eg: the watch captian vs Thorved the watch captain.

Another comment on shields, realism and gaming: using 2 shields as a fighting style seems just plain wrong to me. (This was mentioned in an earlier post by Paizo). If I was GMing the game (probably won't ever happen) I wouldn't allow it, and I certainly won't use it as a player. Morrus, I see that terms like "virtue signalling" (a new one to me) and SJW are not allowed on this forum, but is the same true of terms like "white privilege" and similar?
  • 07:09 PM - Cergorach mentioned Morrus in post Do We Still Need "Oriental Adventures"?
"Two things I can't stand are racism and the Dutch!" - Michael Caine's character in one of those Austin Powers movies. When you quote a movie, quote it correctly! So that everyone can bake in it's glorious contrariety... ;-) Morrus: The article isn't discussing ANY particular culture, that would be great content! But your doing now what we all don't like saying that Africa or the Orient is a culture, it isn't. It's a collection of cultures. Instead of authors raving against things that are wrong with RPG products, why not show them how it's done?

  • 05:38 AM - doctorbadwolf quoted Morrus in post Super Hero TV shows
Gotham is my favourite. Followed by Daredevil, then Supergirl, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist got much better this year. Arrow once was, then I went off it for a few years, but it's picked up again. Arrow and Flash both had a dip in quality, but are doing much better. Supergirl, too, from what I've heard. I didn't love the second season, especially after the first, but Ive been told repeatedly that it's really good again.

  • 09:22 PM - M3woods quoted Morrus in post Trying to figure out motorcycle jousting
I wouldn't have thought at initiative roll would be needed. Attacks would be simultaneous. I'd say simultaneous attacks, but you use your riding skill as your attack skill. That makes sense. Simultaneous attacks create the possibility of both riders being unseated on the same run. If this is a contest similar in style to medieval jousting I'd include opportunities for modifiers based on 'smack talking' and bike damages since bikes obviously Spin Out if the driver is knocked from the seat. Some maintenance would have to take place between runs. Maybe use a table like below when the driver is unseated? 2d6 EFFECT 2Tire is punctured, all checks -1d6 3-5Swingarm damaged, reduce SPEED by 1d6 6-8Busted Fairing, no additional effect 9-10Fork Tubes are bent, reduce HANDLING by 1 class 11Engine is damaged, reduce ACCEL by half (round up) 12Fuel Tank ruptured, bike inoperable until replaced/repaired

  • 04:15 PM - Blue quoted Morrus in post Avengers Endgame Trailer
Of course, it only takes a generation for the universe's population to double again. Thanos has only set it back by a few years. I'm not sure about that. Many species grow based on available food - but having killed half the life in the universe that means that anything that consumes life (plants, animals, etc.) will find their food supplies similarly shrunk. (Predators also are a big factor, but the ratio of predators to prey has remained the same.) Sentients can decided to breed quickly, and to change their environment (plant more, etc.). They can impact the speed.
  • 11:16 AM - Imaculata quoted Morrus in post Rate the Star Wars Movies
But... thatís the exact opposite of a surprise. Not entirely. It was a surprise going into the movie. But once the movie started heading slightly in that direction, I was genuinely excited at what they might do. Instead, as stated above, they were just yanking our chains a bit. And that's exactly my problem with all this. It is very easy to "yank the audience's chains", and to have people mistake that for being an unexpected twist. But it takes effort to actually write a satisfying plot. It felt like the movie went out of its way to constantly yank those chains, and then have no satisfying resolution to it. So, informally, just about everyone I know that dislikes this movie has been a fan of the pre-Disney EU. I wasn't, and I like TLJ. I wonder how widespread this is, given that the movie was pretty well received outside of a smallish and loud core of die-hard SW fandom. I consider myself a pretty big Starwars fan. I loved the original trilogy, hated the prequels, loved TFA, and hated ...
  • 03:11 AM - Nagol quoted Morrus in post Echohawk's Collector's Guides Broken?
I have never even heard of that error message.... this is so far above my pay grade. Not a clue. It's probably a wordier version of the reported ERR_RESPONSE_HEADERS_MULTIPLE_LOCATION. That error says there are multiple HTML headers in the document which is a big no-no so as to prevent a type of injection attack. Originally, I thought Kiraya_TiDrekan's set up was probably to blame because it was a single user complaining. It may be the showwiki.php is missing an exit() after the redirect, it may be the formatting is slightly off -- the browsers are getting more strict with their parsing.
  • 01:28 AM - Imaculata quoted Morrus in post Rate the Star Wars Movies
Huh? It would have surprised you if they did the thing you were expecting? It would have surprised me if they had done what I were hoping they would do at that moment. Instead they kind of flirt with a cool premise, and abandon it. Subverting audience expectations isn't always a good thing, if the turn sucks.

Sorry to break it to you, but itís fine on the app. The problems you are experiencing are due to the very large number of people who have blocked you, and the resultant thread ID changes. As a fix, I suggest you stop getting blocked. That came out of nowhere. Why the hostile response? I volunteered a reply to the OP - and yourself - in the belief I was helpful. If you don't want regular forum users to reply to meta questions, maybe then not solicit the input? Plus, no posts are blocked when using the app, so your testy reply not only feels unprovoked but also hard to understand. :(
  • 02:44 AM - Shasarak quoted Morrus in post Do you believe we are alone in the universe?
You are confusing media sound bytes and analogies with physics and wondering why it doesnít work in your head. Physicists use equations and stuff. If you want to point out the flaws in physics, you need to show where the equations are wrong. Not where you heard some ďironic claimĒ about something. I mean, yeah, sure go up to a particle physicist and tell them how ďironicĒ you find their ďclaimsĒ. But be prepared to explain their ďclaimsĒ (read: their lifeís work) first. But that is not true though. What is Dark Matter and Dark Energy? Do you have a particle physicist prepared to put their "lifes work" up as a scientific Theory. No, I think I will stick to what real particle physicists say which is, forgive my paraphrasing, that they dont know.

  • 02:07 PM - Maxperson quoted Morrus in post Do you believe we are alone in the universe?
As I said earlier, this is just a conversation/ending nothing statement. Sure. By definition, we canít know anything for certain ever. So what? We talk using what we know, or we all just stop talking about anything ever. Whatís the fun in that? It's fine to talk using what we know, but when we are using it to stop reasonable speculation about the future tech in a thread that's about speculation about future tech, that's not very fun, either. :)
  • 02:25 AM - Quickleaf quoted Morrus in post How would you design one page adventures?
Man, tough crowd! Hah! Indeed. I think the desert scenes part of that "Croaking Sirroco" mockup were well put together. I like how there's a sense of flow, narrative progression, and unveiling secrets there. That part works well. I do feel conflicted about listing ability/skill checks and DCs and damage amounts when your space is so limited, however. If it's meant to be adaptable for a wider level range, that seems like something you can trust the DM to handle. Might free up a little space for you to work with.

  • 06:54 PM - Quickleaf quoted Morrus in post How would you design one page adventures?
This is kinda how it looks with little coloured icons showing the challenge level of each encounter, but I feel it now starts to look quite messy. 103400 For me personally, it feels busy, angled text is harder to read, and would murder printer ink, echoing what 77IM was saying. It could be the low-res, but the bolded text could be even bolder to differentiate it; it feels like a semi-bold, and I'm having to look carefully/squint to recognize it as different...actually I think the color backgrounds are contributing to making that differentiation harder. I think the skeleton of something workable is there, however. It also reads like an site-in-which-adventure-could-happen rather than an adventure, in that there's no hook for the players. I get the aesthetic "let the DM fill in the blanks", but having a starting point, having a clearly framed start scene, saves the DM a lot of work.

  • 11:25 PM - Zardnaar quoted Morrus in post Do you believe we are alone in the universe?
Itís not ďonlyĒ theory. We use relativity in all sorts of things. Your GPS depends on it; GPS satellites are subject to relativistic effects due to the speed they move and their altitude in Earthís gravity well. The word ďtheoryĒ in science doesnít mean ďhypothesisĒ. I know but say 150 year ago science as it understood it probably could not conceive of an atomic weapon. In 100 years who knows, there are quantum physics theories that might pan out, someone might invent a fusion reactor (not that it will produce enough energy for FTL). There is anti matter and tachyons and things like that and some combination of genetic engineering, AI, generations ships, gene seed ships, and a new power source could enable something. It might take years to get there but interstellar travel might be possible one day (slowly barring some sort of massive breakthrough). The could invent a fusion reactor, stick it in a problem send said probes towards some close stars, they broadcast back any habitable planets,...

I'm not ignorant of how useful relativity is, or what it's theoretical underpinnings are. But, Newtonian mechanics were absolutely critical to a lot of technological advancements and we now know them to be wrong but useful. Assuming we're at the end of science is wrong -- we do not know.

The crash was in 2013. Youíre off by over a decade! :) But yeah, the site ran for a year or two back around/before the turn of the century as just a news page with no forums. They were a later addition. There was a data loss around 2002, because I had to recreate my account, and was miffed that it said 02 instead of whatever it was previously. I think its why no one really has a join date before Jan 02?. I was moving around in the military and didnt rejoing until Sep 02. But I'm afraid I remember no other details, as of why. Thanks for the info.

The site didnít even have a forum back when it started. We had forums for a while before the, what was it? 2002 crash/data loss?. But yeah, I barely remember it just being the new edition's coming web page. It was a unique time, before the explosion of social media.
