    I think shifting initiative to Int is a good way to reduce the dex super stat and make int more well rounded. Initiative is always good. The cha = inspiration is solid. Gives player some control over when they get advantage benefits. Wisdom because of perception is already pretty good, I see it as a dump stat less than the other two.

    Considering that you can move just fine between a fighters 4 attacks, and I never hear people calling the monk overpowered, i would let him move without hesitation

    The main thing I miss from nine swords were stances. The idea of giving fighters a few at will “powers” that they could switch between freely was a simple and wonderful concept. And you can tailor it from the most non-magical “pure martial” abilities to “effectively giving them them a magic power” or everywhere in between

    Yup, some of them run quite hot. Purposely and some not so. So the heat can be used as a weapon or defensive measure. Some have heavy bone plating. Some can generate 'armour' or harden their skin in select areas, to either protect the nap or other areas, or to add bonus damage to melee strikes. A few other uses as well.

    I have played a lot of Shadowrun in my day. And I'd say.. go either 2nd edition or 5th. Do not bother with 3 or 4. If you want a bit of retro-future - what the past thought future technology would be like, go with 2nd.     The big stuff: 1) 20 con, so more hp, on top of more hp! 2) Slightly higher crit modifier 3) +2 more attack, and one extra attack every round. 4) The big one....heals 10 damage every round once at half. That is by far the biggest factor I'm sure. I would also assume that he saves his second wind until much later to milk this advantage. 5) One more action surge.

    It means a lot of rerolls and shifting all of the players and monsters, either on cards or in your head. Way more complicated every round as opposed to just "hey your down, remember you lose your next turn no matter what".

    To me the two simplest rules to fix this: 1) a penalty when falling unconscious. That way you always take some pain. 2) a person who falls unconscious always loses their next turn, no matter when healed. This means initiative is less relevant.     I rather think that depends upon what the focus & intent of the game is. Just this weekend, I played a game which had no combat mechanic. The PCs weren't people addressing their challenges via personally applying physical force, so no system for doing so was included. We didn't miss it.     I just something similar. I didn't change the damage, but allowed the blade to gain any benefits of the blast. So invocations that give knockback for example, could be used. The invocation that adds your charisma mod would apply, etc.

    One option missed in the OP is "Ineffable: The exact nature of the gods is not known, or undetermined. Divine magic happens, but nobody has proof of why or how." This is how most of my games run - unless or until the actual nature of divine magic impact play (so, it becomes mechanically- or plot-relevant), then I don't bother to specify.     A little while back, I taught my 13-year-old de facto goddaughter how to play D&D. That gave me an entirely new perspective on what "safe" means. There's a little-realized fact that there's no such thing as a no-holds-barred safe space.     Don't ask, "What would be a good metric?" Ask instead: "What matters to you about a game?" Not just as a thought exercise - Make an actual list of things that matter to you. We can try to separate what of those things are GM/group dependent, and what's rules-dependent, and what measures we could put that could be useful. Metrics should be chosen to answer specific questions.

    I gotta agree with Morrus on the whole CN thing. Thing is, most people, really, are lawful by D&D standards. They follow rules, they work (reasonably well) in groups every day and generally aren't out there to stir things up. Funny thing is, I think most players choose CN because they don't want to allow the DM to have any hooks into their behavior. It's really a shame that 5e ejected "unaligned" because, frankly, I think that's what most folks mean when they say CN. Sorry, but, if your chaotic neutral character is 100% responsible and trustworthy, he's not actually CN.

    THAC0 is clearly preferable to BAB, for two reasons. One, it sounds cooler, and closer to the action of hitting. THAC0. It's an aptonym. Second, it is easier. As Morrus has repeatedly explained to the rest of you, addition is easier. With THACO, you are always adding. With BAB, you have to constantly subtract negative numbers. So NOT ONLY do you have to use subtraction (OH NOES!), you ALSO have to subtract negative numbers. I swear, if I ever have to subtract the negative of the proficiency again .... Stop bowing to the tyranny of math.

    That they are dancing is more about content than description. The thing that makes the scene more interesting is that the kobolds are dancing for some reason, not how the GM describes the dance It's not, or at least it's not entirely content. Dancing is a description of what the kobolds are doing up on the hill. Dancing is also content. This brings me back(again) to the point I made pages ago. Both qualitative description AND content are both necessary to make an interesting scene. One without the other is going to be dull. Also not sure why my posts keep including that quote I think it has something to do with multiquoting. Zardnaar was driving Morrus crazy with it in a thread recently. Maybe one of them could help you figure out how to stop quoting it.

It's not fun, but it beats having to deal with the feeling of a numb jaw long after your visit to the dentist. There's plenty of dentists that will do a filling in the Netherlands without an anaesthetic, but these days they always offer to give you one. I tend to decline. When I grew up none of the dentists gave you one for a simple filling, you just had to endure it.

    Sounds to me like your insurance is the problem, not the dentist. Remember that healthcare, including dentistry, in the US is almost entirely profit driven. If a dentist can find a way to justify extra visits, at a more expensive billing code, they may very well use them. Rather than 2 visits a year at ~$70 each, billing for 4 visits a year at ~$180 each and telling the patient it's medically necessary (as long as they can find some plausible way to justify that to the insurance company, even if it's not strictly needed) is something many dentists would do here. That way the dentist would be making about 5 times more off me a year than they would with normal, standard 2x/year cleanings that wouldn't cost me anything out-of-pocket from my insurance. That's from his end, that's making $140 off me a year vs. making $720 off me a year. From my end with my current insurance (which costs me about $80/month for dental insurance, which is completely separate from health insurance), ...

    IANAD, but periodontal maintenance probably means you have gum disease, which can be halted/held at bay by ongoing maintenance but the damage can't be reversed. Those 20 years without visiting a dentist is probably when that set in. Except every appointment after the first they say I'm fine, have no problems, have no issues ect. I've not heard one bad word about the shape of my teeth or gums since that first appointment. The first couple of appointments they said they were monitoring the status of things since I'd not been to a dentist in so long, but things were looking very good. Hence the extreme skepticism at this idea that I have to come in 4 times a year, for life, for extra expensive cleanings that my insurance won't pay. They aren't even telling me I'm in bad dental health, just that since I had this procedure done once, this is the way it has to be now.

They’d both be in my top BritCom list, but they wouldn’t be in the top 2 slots. Monte Python is my #1, for many reasons- it was my gateway drug into British comedy, for instance. Saw The Holy Grail on one of its first US broadcastings, before I found D&D.

    I understand that some people feel that way about the show. I don't share that feeling, though. To loop back, Morrus, you asked, "Why shouldn’t geeks be in the same mainstream sitcoms as everybody else?" So, now we see some reasons. You haven't been subjected to geek-shaming, so no, you wouldn't share the feeling. Shows that lean too hard on sexist or racist tropes are understood to be problematic by folks who are not usually subject to racism or sexism. This show, which leaned on other traditionally negative tropes for its jokes... should also be understood as problematic, no? Maybe not as egregious, but still an issue.

    No. I was definitely a geek, and hung around with my geek friends, but there was no bullying. I get that other people have different experiences. For me, quite a lot actually, until about my senior year in high school. My defense was making friends with other kids who the bullies were scared of. :) In particular, one dude’s homophobic slur was his favorite word to use against me and basically anyone he didn’t like. Don’t know if he ever actually used it against a gay person or not, but my liking D&D and being good at my classes were all the excuse he needed every time he threatened to beat me up. Now, 20-odd years later I have a lot of perspective and see it for the childishness it was - in comparison, nerd-jokes and insults are pretty mild compared to people in this world with real problems.

    TBBT is a sitcom. Sitcoms are generally the same, just the characters change. There have been sitcoms featuring wartime medics, upper class toffs, pretty people in New York, and everything in between. The characters are always the butt of the joke. This time it was scientists.     I don’t see middle class British dentists getting upset because of a sitcom. There are differences, though. The issue at hand isn't that they are "scientists". It is that they are people matching geek stereotypes. They aren't the butt of the jokes for being scientists - they are being the butt of jokes because of their stereotypical behaviors - behaviors for which geeks have traditionally already been made fun of for having. You are taking a subculture that has been traditionally marginalized, and making fun of the things for which they were marginalized.
