The big stuff: 1) 20 con, so more hp, on top of more hp! 2) Slightly higher crit modifier 3) +2 more attack, and one extra attack every round. 4) The big one....heals 10 damage every round once at half. That is by far the biggest factor I'm sure. I would also assume that he saves his second wind until much later to milk this advantage. 5) One more action surge.

It means a lot of rerolls and shifting all of the players and monsters, either on cards or in your head. Way more complicated every round as opposed to just "hey your down, remember you lose your next turn no matter what".

To me the two simplest rules to fix this: 1) a penalty when falling unconscious. That way you always take some pain. 2) a person who falls unconscious always loses their next turn, no matter when healed. This means initiative is less relevant. Right now if I drop and the healer goes before my next turn, I’m barely inconvenienced. But if I lose my turn regardless of when I’m healed, it’s a...

If the weapon is powerful enough.. vaporizing the head and neck would kill the Titan. Otherwise, treat it like a giant troll.. massive regeneration capability (which can take time), once the titan is wounded enough and goes down, gives the mech pilot time to slash the vulnerable spot, IF they know about it. Otherwise, the Titans would just come back with same numbers while mech pilots have to...

It deals with "the boundary between the modern day United Kingdom and the Hidden World- the world of secret societies of magicians, a police division investigating Fortean crimes, fae courts, werewolf gangs, and haunted places where the walls between worlds are thin." I think part of the broad brush with which early D&D is painted is due to historical distance, but also because Gygax and other TSR authors (such as the infamous Roger Moore “Tucker’s Kobolds” story) talked about these early tendencies and how they were prevalent, and how we shouldn’t do them; therefore, just like a historian who reads partial historical records and draws conclusions without...

There have been sitcoms featuring wartime medics, upper class toffs, pretty people in New York, and everything in between. The characters are always the butt of the joke. This time it was scientists. I don't think there's anything fundamental, here - I'm talking more about categorizing, and setting expectations. I just think about it, and realize there are parts of play where the GM is acting more like a judge/referee, and parts of play where the GM is acting more like an author. The former I'd call adjudication, the latter, not. There's connotations to "adjudication" that I don't think...

In FATE-based games, if you say, "I attack" in physical combat, all you get is a very basic roll of your skill, which in general isn't so high as you'll be able to down anything other than a mook. ...

I am suggesting, as someone said upthread, that the GM has several functions, only one of which is adjudicating. When the GM is just deciding a result, for their own reasons unrelated to the rules of the game - that's not adjudicating. That moment when the GM is *authoring* a result, whatever their inspiration for that - that's not the moment they are adjudicating. I don't buy it. I...

I think this would be a fun little experiment series. 5e's bounded accuracy has made it where high level characters, while strong, are supposed to be toppled by the mob. Numbers mean more than level in 5e. So lets see how well that plays out in practice. In this series, we will take a pretty high level character (11th), and see how well they do against a mob of their lesser (1st level )...

I rather think that depends upon what the focus & intent of the game is. Just this weekend, I played a game which had no combat mechanic. The PCs weren't people addressing their challenges via personally applying physical force, so no system for doing so was included. We didn't miss it. If the intended action in a game is "kill things and take their stuff" then yes, your game needs a combat...

Why do you need rules for one, but not the other? GMs are capable of just saying, "Yes, this social interaction plays out in this manner, with these effects," and do so fairly, but they are somehow incapable of doing so with combat? They can't take a player's description of physical and magical actions, and just run with that like they can social interaction? That, really, is kind of...

See Burst attacks on page 99. Area attacks use a single attack roll (in this case AGI (throwing) or similar) vs VITAL DEFENSE of all targets, and a single damage roll. Otherwise it is resolved just like any other attack roll.

One option missed in the OP is "Ineffable: The exact nature of the gods is not known, or undetermined. Divine magic happens, but nobody has proof of why or how." This is how most of my games run - unless or until the actual nature of divine magic impact play (so, it becomes mechanically- or plot-relevant), then I don't bother to specify. This allows for more belief systems in the world.

The first chapter header for D&D 3rd edition depicted a naked man. And the book had no cheesecake sexualized women. Thank you, Peter Adkison and team for having respectful art design.

Talk about your questionable choices. One reason why we are okay with violence, is that in the real world, some people have issues letting things go, and that tends to escalate.... Gentlemen, be warned - dragging around drama from closed threads is an astoundingly good way to get yourself a vacation from the site. Both of you drop it, now, please and thank you. I would, in fact, take this...

There's "questionable choice" and "end up on the wrong side of the moral argument". Splitting the party to chase down goblins in the woods is a questionable choice, and when they did that, they handled the consequences. Becoming villains is what happens when you are on the wrong side of the moral argument. I think, on their first go ever at RPGs, having them hunted down and either executed...

I don't want the Plane of Fire to be quite that deadly; portions may be, but overall I want it to be difficult and challenging but survivable for mid-level PC's. I've also got a variant Planar set up going: The elemental planes are located inside the (otherwise) hollow Earth. The inside of the mantle (facing in towards the center of the globe) is where the Planes of Earth and Water are -...

Wherever you set it, remember that an environment doesn't have to remain static. You can set things on fire, have sections of a building or bridge collapse, have the townsfolk show up to gawp, have law enforcement show up to arrest y'all (perhaps leading to temporary truces if the law enforcement folks are stronger than either guild), have some valuable treasure get revealed so people have an...

The next big arc of my campaign (5E, players are 6th level) is likely to involve the Plane of Fire and the City of Brass, and I'm curious what other people have done with those. My plan is to make the Plane of Fire a vast desert wasteland with Egyptian motifs; sometimes places swallowed up by the desert end up transported to here. The City of Brass itself I'm kind of wishy-washy on; past D&D...

Um, be careful there. You started with simulated violence, but then use *real* physical conflicts (minor ones, as toddlers) as your example. Apples and oranges. De-sensitization to violence *does* happen. If you are 11 years old, and you regularly see real violence in your home, in your school, and in your community, yes, you get de-sensitized (meaning - you have a decreased emotional...

That includes the time for the proof copy to be printed and sent to @Morrus for approval. EDIT: Ninja'd by @Morrus with a better explanation. Figures. :D And welcome to the boards, Benathalis. • 10:07 PM - Hussar mentioned Morrus in post D&D Has the Biggest Playerbase, So Why is it the Hardest for 3rd Party to Market Too?
Fair enough. I have to admit though, I find it a bit difficult to believe that Morrus has never seen 2pp used as a term on the boards. I have. But, hey, it's not really that big of an issue to be honest. Again, there are so few licensed publishers out there that it's not really a problem. As far as the original question goes, I'm actually frankly confused why someone would think that it's much harder for 3PP to get their name out there than it was, say, back in the d20 boom days. With the mountain of Patreons, Kickstarters and various other venues, I'm seeing an awful lot of pretty successful attempts at getting product out there. Thing is, there's just so much material out there that it can be pretty easy to get lost in the weeds.

  • 11:02 AM - Li Shenron mentioned Morrus in post PbP games: what works and what doesn't?
Oh and I have a suggestion for Morrus too... try to see if there is a possibility for adding a forum functionality by which a forum member can subscribe to a thread and get notifications when someone else replies to the thread. AFAIK this is not how it works at the moment, you get notifications only if you receive a PM, mention or XP. Having notifications on subscribed threads would greatly help a PbP player know when a game has progressed, and reach the thread in a couple of clicks rather than having to find it in the subforums.

...te, caring etc then men" so if a woman speaks up "loudly", she's acting against her role. I know that this holds true more in face-to-face environments, whereas online debates are often no more than mere black-on-white (or inversed) text. Still she identified as a woman. And from what I read, Afrodyte is done with playing the "nice little woman". She's (rightfully) upset about the fact that there are many victim-blaming posts or posts filled with micro-misogyny in this thread that were not being called out while her arguments were dissected. She's also under the impression that male-identifying posters are being less challenged and have it far easier being listened to. And I understand her. Because being a woman who's active online, who has a mind of her own and who gets vocal from time to time can be hard. That being said, I still think that ENWorld is one of the best places to discuss my/our hobby, including systemic problems in our community. And I'm really thankful for Morrus and the other mods to keep it this civil. (Because, honestly, other, more general gaming forums oftentimes look as if they're the little brethren of /b )

So I want to say I am sorry for the stuff I am missing and I want to do better. I don’t do cons but since the problem is everywhere I need to step up and do better in general. In general women are very willing to give individual men several chances to get it right so long as they are trying to move in a positive direction. Personally, I'll excuse any first offense that is done without malice (doing something on purpose to push buttons is not without malice in my book). I'll even accept slip-ups if you keep trying to do better. We're all human (I didn't see any AI's here) and humans make mistakes, so I'm never looking for perfection. I'm looking for progress and growth. I'll be honest, this discussion has gone on to the point where I'm surprised. That's pleasantly surprising and speaks well for Morrus and ENWorld's moderation.
  • 04:00 PM - RedJenOSU mentioned Morrus in post Harassment Policies: New Allegations Show More Work To Be Done
So if @Morrus told you to stop he would not be on your side and he you be sustaining and supporting the structural dynamics that allow harassment and assault to continue and thrive in this environment so you won't feel safe? No. That does not seem consistent with your viewpoint. Do you yield to authority (Morrus) and because lowkey13 has none per say in this environment you deem him as an enemy if he requests the same thing from you? No. Le me try to put the dots close together. Afrodyte has stated previously that if @Morrus feels that what she is doing should stop, then upon being notified of his choice as the moderator, Then she will respect his request as the moderator. At that time she would discontinue her attempt to demonstrate through her requests (Name, SSN, pic) instances in this discussion that she personally feels fall somewhere between unfriendly and hostile toward women.

Yet, I find it interesting that my fairly benign statements showing that I don't automatically trust every self-proclaimed good dude are getting more heat than some of the deeply unsettling things several posters have been saying in the past 15 pages I've been participating on this thread. That is a curious statement. The last 15 pages have been relatively mild compared to what had been posted before where Morrus got involved several times. As for you getting heat more than the trolls, citation needed. I'm not seeing any evidence of what you're claiming, especially given the XP count which equates to support. If you really think that an exaggerated demonstration of the daily precautions I have to take to avoid harassment and assault is unfairly blaming poor, innocent men who are just trying to have a discussion, you haven't been paying attention to what several women and men have been saying on this thread, and you are not on my side (whatever being on my side supposedly means), and it all of it sustains and supports the structural dynamics that allow harassment and assault to continue and thrive in environments where people are supposed to be safe. So if @Morrus told you to stop he would not be on your side and he you be sustaining and supporting the structural dynamics that allow harassment and assault to continue and thrive in this environment so you won't feel safe? • 12:25 PM - Hussar quoted Morrus in post Amazon ratings of Ghosts of Saltmarsh
That's not how I would interpret 5-stars. True, but, that is generally how ratings are done. That's why most reviews skew so high. Really, a 7/10 should be a pretty high rating, it's higher than the majority of other similar stuff out there. But, unfortunately, what it really means is that it's a barely adequate product because the baseline is 9 or 10 out of 10. Same goes for 5/5. It makes reviews pretty much pointless in most cases.
  • 10:44 AM - Paul Farquhar quoted Morrus in post Amazon ratings of Ghosts of Saltmarsh
Well, presumably 1 star and 5 stars are equal extremes, unless you don't agree with them. It's a binary world these days - things are either the best thing ever or the worst thing ever. Not quite. One Star needs an explanation, since there must be something very badly wrong. Five Star simply means "it does exactly what it says on the tin" since the advertising clearly gives the best possible interpretation of the product. Also, given the tendency for the internet to be negative, it is much more likely that a One Star is political (by which I include any reason unrelated to the quality of the product itself, such as "I hate what Hasbro is doing with Eberron").

Hmm. Question: why does Renly think he has a claim? Stannis does (in fact he’s the rightful heir), and Joffrey does via deception, but where does Renley’a claim come from? (I say all this knowing that it doesn’t matter because at the end is a dragon). He's the youngest of the 3 Baratheon brothers. Robert, Stannis & then Renly Baratheon. He's 4th in line after Joffery, Tommen, then Stannis. He does have a claim, just a lot weaker than the rest.

  • 09:16 PM - doctorbadwolf quoted Morrus in post "I'm BATMAN!" - Robert Pattison
Michael Keaton is a great actor. He even nailed Ray Kroc in The Founder on Netflix. Have not watched a Batman movie since the Dark Knight. When you basically nail perfection anything else is gonna look bad. "Perfection"? lol oof. It's pretty good movie, with a batman that is...fine, I guess? It's probably the third best live action Batman movie, maybe 4th. I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt. Keaton and Ledger were both highly derided choices until they proved to be excellent. Actors act! And Pattinson is a morbid weirdo who comes across at a casual glance as a vapid pop star. Literally my only worry with him is the physical build, but if Keaton can pull it off, I'm sure he can too.
  • 05:46 PM - lowkey13 quoted Morrus in post What the Hell?
Is it set in the 70s or in the future? My recollection (remember- I read this a LONG time ago, when I was much younger) is that the protagonist died in the present time, but it was set some time in the future (due to waiting, like you tend to do in the afterlife)- that said, the characters were almost all fictional or people from history; I can't recall anyone that was alive at the time I read it that was said to have died. EDIT- OH! So, I looked it up on Wikipedia; apparently, there was a "sequel" in 2010, and that referred to Sagan. I know nothing about that.
  • 12:04 PM - Joker quoted Morrus in post GAME OF THRONES SEASON 8--Final Run-- Part 6---THE END
So did Bran basically plan all this from the start? I think he's like a super computer and sees a lot of different possible paths at once. He then tries to steer people in the right direction for the best outcome, taking into account how people's actions might change if he tells them anything. But that's just how I choose to see it. The makers of the show have been uncomfortable with the magic elements from the get go. So we don't really know how Bran's powers work.

  • 07:07 AM - Li Shenron quoted Morrus in post Favourite D&D edition that’s not 5E
Taking 5E out of the equation, what’s your favourite D&D edition — and why? 3.0 - because it's a very comprehensive system with vast design room for homebrew material. If you want a game that has a ready-made rule for (almost) every situation and you like fiddly bits, that is. I specifically prefer 3.0 over 3.5 because it was designed "organically" and it holds together better, while the revised edition was mostly a set of disconnected patches that created new problems.
  • 12:53 AM - Mercador quoted Morrus in post Paizo's Kingmaker Crowdfunding Campaign Extended
Not weird. I completely understand. They are ready to move on, but you're not. Games are an emotional buy-in sometimes - especially when you buy a lot of the same edition from the same company. If you still love the current edition, you don't want to leave unless there is a better option. We'll see if PF2 is one. (I don't think it will be, but maybe I'll be surprised.) I'm not sure in this case there will be as many along for the ride to PF2 as there was for PF1. PF1 was better than the current D&D (4E) by a wide margin for a lot of people. I'm not sure PF2 will hold that same advantage over D&D 5E. Ending PF1 provides an opportunity for some to return to the D&D fold. (At a time when D&D is seriously kicking butt!) Thanks, I feel less weird now :) Yeah, I don't feel PF2 either but I hope that I'm wrong.

  • 11:20 PM - Mercador quoted Morrus in post Paizo's Kingmaker Crowdfunding Campaign Extended
They’re moving to a new edition. I thought that was clear. :) Why would it violate your trust in Paizo? Is coming out with material to support the new edition something untrustworthy? But I don't want to :'( Not sure why though, I guess it's all the books I have, like I feel betrayed, it's weird I know.
  • 08:48 PM - Mercador quoted Morrus in post Paizo's Kingmaker Crowdfunding Campaign Extended
Because it’s very existence is a PF2 promotion. I guess I'm really not the target audience then. Doing that is just alienate my trust in Paizo. Supporting PF1 with a hardcover release just as you're about to release PF2 seems like a bad idea. Plus Kingmaker was originally released as a PF1 adventure path, so it's available for the PF1 rules currently if people want it. I'm pretty sure that the RotR and CotCT were originally released for 3.5E and then released as a hardcover compilation updated to PF1 rules. There's something I don't get; in French, there's several adventure paths in hardcover format, not just the first two. As far as I know, the French market is way under the numbers of the English one, it can't be that hard to print 6 adventures paths and put it in a hardcover book..?
  • 07:40 AM - Imaculata quoted Morrus in post "I'm BATMAN!" - Robert Pattison
I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt. Keaton and Ledger were both highly derided choices until they proved to be excellent. Actors act! Yeah, both actors were heavily criticised. People were furious about Ledger playing the joker... but turns out he might be one of the best Joker's of all time (second only to Mark Hamill in my opinion). Then again, DC is having an epic dance with failure lately. If they get Batman right with Pattison, it's probably on accident.

  • 06:10 PM - DMMike quoted Morrus in post Thinking about an advancement system
There needed to be? Doesn't common sense apply at this stage? Nope. This is the Internet. If you can only roll when the GM tells you to, then the method of play becomes convincing the GM that you should be allowed to roll. If you can only advance when there would be a consequence for failure, then your job is to convince the GM that the consequences would be meaningful. The rules put the GM in the position of playing the bad guy, who resists your attempts at having fun. There is a good point here, although I'm about as happy with the packaging as Umbran is. Advancement by (conflict resolution) failure means there's no advancement if the GM doesn't ask for conflict rolls. In such a situation, yes, the player has an incentive to try and roll. Which is bass ackwards to me, since it drives me nuts when players roll before they role. Percentile system. Everything is a skill. You improve with failure. Every time you fail a skill check, the skill improves by 1%. Technically they ...

I’m struggling with all the Arrowverse superhero shows right now. Flash has lost its sense of fun, Arrow is boring, Legends is just slapstick. Supergirl is currently the best of them. We watched them and they were alright but dumped the lot. Gotham, Agents, Arrow, Flash all went downhill. Luke Cage and Jessica Jones were better but got cancelled. Iron Fist was just bad.

eBay for me again then, I guess. you cant just wait till september? i mean i get it that june to september is a huge exclusive window for Target, but... i suppose for review purposes it sucks. i am actually surprised there isnt more Hasbro interference on how wizards/D&D release stuff and how they handle exclusive releases. also i think they have done well for wizards/D&D with the IP tie in, the rick and morty thing sounds fantastic, and i personally enjoyed the stranger things tie in, i also got it for 12 dollars.
