Hey jonesy, this new one is turn-based and close to the tabletop conceptionally. It's great fun. If you're also looking for a real-time driving-my-mech experience, MechWarrior Online is free-to-play with both skirmishes and objective-based battles, usually 3 lances per side, each with a human piloting a single mech video-game style. (So 12 vs. 12 people.) Actually, the new HBS Battletech licensed the mech models from Piranha, the maker of MechWarrior Online and they've cross-promoted each other - they scratch different itches, they don't compete just compliment.

I've tried that. Everything is either too small or too large on my phone. But if you're referring to the comment you got for the Picard trailer, I thought the main problem was that the link you used is blocked in some areas (I can't view the link at all, it just says 'content unavailable'). That's honestly not my fault I used the silly embed button and how was I supposed to know it was region locked?

George has written an update regarding the last episode: http://georgerrmartin.com/notablog/2019/05/20/an-ending/ Winter is coming, I told you, long ago… and so it is. THE WINDS OF WINTER is very late, I know, I know, but it will be done. Lies. You have no pages. I won’t say when, I’ve tried that before, only to burn you all and jinx myself… but I will finish it, and then will come A DREAM OF SPRING. The definition of chutzpah is to announce a book sequel when your can't even write pages for the book in order to write the sequel. I REFUSE TO BE THE CHARLIE BROWN TO YOUR LUCY! .... How about this? I’ll write it. You read it. Then everyone can make up their own mind, and argue about it on the internet. Well, someone has to kick that football. Might as well be me!

"if nothing else, the readers will learn what happened to Jeyne Poole, Lady Stoneheart, Penny and her pig, Skahaz Shavepate, Arianne Martell, Darkstar, Victarion Greyjoy, Ser Garlan the Gallant, Aegon VI" 106615 Okay, some of them I do remember, but still, I can't say I'm burning up at the thought of learning their fates. "How about this? I’ll write it. You read it. Then everyone can make up their own mind, and argue about it on the internet." Sure, but first you have to write it... Another thing about lost continuity. I know they never mentioned it on the show, but it's possible that the Unsullied are sailing to their doom. The Isle of Naath is home to butterflies which spread a plague to anyone who wasn't born there. That's the reason they are 'peaceful people' as Missandei said. They don't need to defend themselves. Outsiders who go there die. https://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Naath yep, they are basically committing mass suicide with how this season went, it kinda makes sense that is doesn't make any sense
  • 12:14 PM - Joker quoted jonesy in post GAME OF THRONES SEASON 8--Final Run-- Part 6---THE END
The running theme throughout the final season was the distinctive lack of continuity. Things that happened in previous episodes had very little bearing on the following episode/s. The Red Keep falls on Jaime and Cersei in the previous episode, and in the final we discover it was just a couple of well-placed bricks that hit them. If they'd moved 5 steps to the left they'd have been fine. Arya rides away from the direction of the Red Keep in the previous episode, but then this episode begins there, with her there. Where was she riding to? From a writing viewpoint, what was the point of the horse? The season is full of continuity blunders large and small. The end of the Dothraki, nope here they are. The power of the scorpions, gone. Jaime decides to stay north, nope going south. It's the main criticism of the show, I reckon, that the pacing is so very off. I think it was Mallory and Jason from The Ringer (great website) who said it seems like David and David had an ending in mind and back-...

You've never heard them before? Duuuuude: I came across them a few years back. For me, somehow I came across the group Battlelore (I forget how) and I liked a) the fact that the music was neat and b) lots of their music was based off the LotR, which was cool. Looked more into similar type of music, came across Nightwish, Lacuna Coil (Heaven's a Lie still one of my favorite songs) and more. Good type of music. Makes Evanescence seem bland to me.

  • 03:34 PM - Blue quoted jonesy in post Avengers: Endgame SPOILER THREAD
In their interview on Ellen Brie and Scarlett mentioned that when Brie was shooting her scenes for Endgame they hadn't even started with the Captain Marvel movie (didn't even have a script), so Brie had no idea at all what the character was going to be like. She basically went into Endgame blind. Great googly moogly! Knowing that you have a movie focusing on you coming up that you have no idea what your character will be like, but needing to portray that character accurately in a different movie filming first, showing second, that will have a huge audience. Ugh, I do not envy Brie Larson. This does explain why they kept down the numebr of character interaction scenes. Not flinching when Thor testing her is an easy guess. But there was discussion about why she wasn't around for mourning of Black Widow and not knowing how the character takes it (stoic, empathizing, etc.) is much harder. Thanks, I did not know that and it helps put some things in perspective.

I have an idea on how to explain Drogon's dominance this episode. Euron only managed to get three scorpions constructed and their crews trained. The ones that killed Rhaegal. The rest of the scorpions were literal cardboard cutouts. Dany figured it out because she is also a cardboard cutout this season. Euron is also a cardboard cut out, cut from the same place they made Captain Marvel. In other news there is a youtube vid going around by actor Ian McElhinney (Ser Barristan Selmy) at a 2019 russian con where he states that GRRM finished books 6+7 but cut a deal to release them soon after season 8. Check minute 31:29 If this is true...
  • 01:15 PM - Maxperson quoted jonesy in post GAME OF THRONES SEASON 8--Final Run-- Part 5
It feels like there's 5 episodes of plot development missing from in between episodes three and five. Did I really just see northmen killing unarmed soldiers and civilians just because Grey Worm went crazy? Like, were those former Bolton men, or what? Jon was right there and they just go in and slaughter people without even waiting for his command? What? Yeah. That scene and Dany just deciding to burn all of the innocents like that just blew chunks. I mean, going all "Mad Queen" and hitting innocents while burning the enemy near the keep would be one thing. Just targeting the innocents with no enemy soldiers around was stupid.

Did I really just see northmen killing unarmed soldiers and civilians just because Grey Worm went crazy? Like, were those former Bolton men, or what? Jon was right there and they just go in and slaughter people without even waiting for his command? What? Mob mentality is a powerful thing. Mob mentality after surviving the dead when half your friends and family didn't and after the people of King's Landing were sitting all warm and cozy is undoubtedly more powerful. It's not like the Northmen have Unsullied-like discipline. A lot of them are probably still sore about Jon bending the knew to Dani and don't really give a rats proverbial about his honor. No, that didn't bother me. It bothered in terms of the horror they were committing but I believed it. I went into this episode with zero expectations after the last couple and in a way it allowed me to enjoy parts of this one that I ...

  • 10:19 PM - Zardnaar quoted jonesy in post Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 4 "The Last of the Starks"
Oh boy.. Kit Harington was doing an interview on PopBuzz when he was asked to describe the season finale with one word and he blurts out "disappointing". He then quickly tried to take it back by saying epic instead, but his tone of voice didn't change. Then Entertainment Tonight tried asking Emilia Clarke if she was happy with how things ended. She chuckles in a very uncomfortable and embarrassed way. She then goes and says "Best season ever", but again with the same akward tone. :uhoh: I saw those clips and her tone of voice when she said best season ever was mocking. Leaked spoilers are also out on of them was accurate apparently for episode 4 so if the other 2 are accurate apparently its terrible. Season 5 is now no longer the worst season.

On friday I got a card (like an actual card in my mailbox, not an email or anything) for what basically amounts to an invitation to a high school reunion (lukio, I think that's high school level, probably). Is it bad that I feel no compulsion to actually go there? It was two decades ago. I don't even remember any of those people. I need to really work my memory to get any faces to mind. The person I best remember from those days isn't around anymore (which might be part of why I don't want to go). The person who wrote the invitation is using phrasing which suggets that she absolutely remembers me, but I have no recollection of her at all. I never went to any of my high school reunions. I basically had nothing in common with most of them and spent most of my high school years living in my head. About the only reason I could think of for going is to see whether or not a couple of the really pretty girls stayed pretty or trolled out over the years...

  • 06:03 PM - MarkB quoted jonesy in post Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 4 "The Last of the Starks"
In the words of my father: "You know the real reason why Arya said no to Gendry is because she's all about the reality of the situation. Dany can't make him a lord. She's always assuming things are true before they are. She's not the queen, and it's possible she never will be." That's assuming that Arya gives a damn whether he's a lord or not. That aside, I appreciate the sentiment - lots of titles being handed out as prizes before the contest is won.
  • 05:39 PM - Gladius Legis quoted jonesy in post Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 4 "The Last of the Starks"
Divide and conquer? If either Jon or Dany dies, the other becomes stronger as most of the disputes between their sides evaporate. I doubt Cersei knows who Jon really is at this point.
  • 02:33 PM - MarkB quoted jonesy in post Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 4 "The Last of the Starks"
There's a general problem on the show with the incredible accuracy of bows overall. Last episode we got a scene where Arya shooting a wight threatening Sandor was treated as an amazing shot. But was it really? Jamie's archers were able to hit a flying dragon. Theon was shooting ravens out of the air at the Twins. Ramsay just generally. All of those are elite archers, but have we actually seen anyone doing badly with a bow? Aside from Edmure, which was played for laughs. I had the same issue with the Hobbit movies. In Lord of the Rings Legolas's accuracy is at least played as being exceptional, but during the scenes like the barrel-run battle, both elves and dwarves manage ridiculous shots and moves routinely enough that they coordinate them with each other in the full expectation of being able to pull them off 100% reliably, and Bard is considered a failure by the folks of Laketown for having been unable to hit a fast-moving dragon in a firestorm using a fixed-emplacement ballista.
  • 01:21 PM - Maxperson quoted jonesy in post Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 4 "The Last of the Starks"
    - Dany and her fleet. (So sorry about your lack of strategy or tactics. RIP Rhaegal and Missandei. By the way, how was Rhaegal so stunningly slow to react? He wasn't slow at all in the fight against Viserion. Was he injured in his plot armor? And did Dany's fleet really have no scouts at all? Does she even know what a scout is? Back at Meereen she was doing the scouting by herself with her most valuable aides by her side so I guess she really doesn't. Also: man who fights for gold can't afford to get scouts of his own? The Second Sons could have killed their entire opposition leadership in one fell swoop if they'd had just one scout there to spot them.) Ballistae simply are not that accurate at that distance, especially against moving targets, and even more especially when fired from a moving boat that is going over waves. That scene was almost as bad as the Charge of the Night Brigade from last episode. There's also no way those ships could round the island and get into position to spot a...

Bronn did use one all by himself, and re-armed it rather quickly. The ones used against Dany's fleet do have whole teams using them. I just realized that I accidentally said that Ghost was with Robb. Shame. :p Yeah, but think about it. They strike with enough force to blast through one side of a ship and out the other, taking a large chunk of the hull with them. That means that you have to pump all the kinetic energy it would require to do that into the mechanism by turning a handle. Doing that should take two people the same amount of effort as it would require for them to hack their way through those hulls with axes.
