  • 02:19 AM - Quickleaf mentioned gweinel in post Al-Qadim: Land of Fate (5e conversion)
gweinel You're totally right! Thanks for the link! I've chatted with Wolfgang before, and wrote a little piece for Kobold Quarterly too. He's a great guy. :) And his work on the AQ line was very influential for me as a gamer, writer, and fledgling game designer. I think his handle on here is Monkey King? Wolfgang, I'd love to get your feedback here! The project in brief (to avoid having to wade thru 13 pages of posts -- I'll update the OP with this too)... Myself and three other gentlemen are taking point on a quality conversion of Al-Qadim to 5e, to be published for free on DM's Guild. The intention is to (a) rejuvenate interest in this wonderful setting, (b) provide a foundation for future publishers to put out AQ stuff on DM's Guild, and (c) offer both the traditional setting and a post-Spellplague setting (what Zakharans know as the "Great Unbinding" of the Seal of Jafar al-Samal) for DMs to choose from. I'm pretty good with layout and I've also written a few freelance gamin...

Does Mearls or someone else from Wizards answered why did they choose to make Eberron a digital - ebook product and not a print one? I can understand why the choose Ravinca to be printed, but why not Eberron? I am asking because this seems to me as a downgrading for a published world. Shall we expect next year to have Planeshift printed and Planescape/Spelljammer ebook again? Both Mearls and Baker said that it's because it's still not be complete - the artficer is still missing for example. Once everything is updated and playtested, a print option is possible.

Does Mearls or someone else from Wizards answered why did they choose to make Eberron a digital - ebook product and not a print one? I haven't seen anything. I can understand why the choose Ravinca to be printed, but why not Eberron? I am asking because this seems to me as a downgrading for a published world. Shall we expect next year to have Planeshift printed and Planescape/Spelljammer ebook again? My guess, and it is just a guess, is that the Eberron guide is for us - those fans of the game who are sufficiently dedicated to be online, to know and care about DM's Guild, and therefore are likely to know about this product and buy it. By contrast, Ravinca is for those gamers who only interface with the game in terms of physical products - who wouldn't know about it if it was on DM's Guild but who might be interested enough to pick it up at the storefront. (And, not coincidentally, it might be spotted by Magic players who are interested enough to take a look... and be snared.) ...

Below you can see three very interesting tweets by Mike Mearls regarding the non-published dnd settings (even Spelljammer). 85799 Although he doesn't mention how it supposed to support these settings, it seems to me that it will gonna be a holistic approach. I think what they plan is to have the different settings more interconnected then before, like they have, already done with Ravenloft and FR, so you could start you adventure in FR, get pulled into Ravenloft by the Mists, that deposit you in Athas, where you take a Spelljammer to Krynn and when your done their usa planeshift spell to go to Sigil and from Sigil exit a portal to Oerth, and after some fun their, get the Wizard Mordkiedien to take you back to the Forgotten Realms, in Kara Tur, where you sail to Zakhara, land of Al Qadim, where you adventure till you set sail again to Faerun, where you started.

Exactly this. This is the reason why i think dmsguild alone is not the solution for the other settings. It must be something more. I don't know what will be, but i think wizards will cover all the other setting with one "stroke" and supplementary will open the ip in dmsguild I'm curious as to what you think that one stroke will be?

Ι would love something like this, but I don't find it likely. They could do something like that with Al Qadim, but as we saw neither Jeff Grubb, neither Wolfgang Baur, or anyone else took the opportunity to make material for 5e. Wolfgang makes lots of 5E material through Kobold Press. As for Al Qadim or other existing D&D settings... The terms of DM's Guild are friendly to newcomers with small projects. They're a lot less enticing to people who want to do larger, more comprehensive books, since they don't allow for crowdfunding and have some other terms that many pros--not all, but many--are leery of.

Ed Greenwood is dipping his toes into the waters of the DM's Guild, though. I also understand that Keith Baker is prepared to do a bunch of Eberron stuff if they ever open that on DM's Guild. Wolfgang Baur is, as I understand it, fairly busy with Kobold Press.

We saw a shaman under druid's guise but i prefer to see one with warlock's mechanics. Seems to me more relevant. In 5E, there is always more than one way to akin a cat. Sent from my BLU LIFE XL using EN World mobile app

  • 09:56 PM - Tony Vargas quoted gweinel in post Please help me find a defining game mechanic for my homebrew world
Character based: The curses can take many forms according to the actions of the characters.... There would be a number of thresholds (something like 3-5). When you pass a threshold something with the prominent curse occurs. ... I am not sure how someone can gain these curse points. I can see curse points could be gained in ancient ruins/temples where the presence of the old gods were more prominent. But where else and which circumstances would occur in order to gain curse points? You might want something that works a bit like Dark Side points? You can gain a benefit with an action that's in accord with the Curse in your locality (or the one you grew up in, I suppose), but you gain a curse point, pushing you towards the next threshold. Actually I am not sure if like the "character-class" based curses. It makes some sense to break it out by caster vs non-caster, and divine caster vs others. Casters and non-casters simply do things differently. Divine casters might have greater vulnerabilit...

  • 12:52 AM - Olive quoted gweinel in post 101 events at a gathering to choose a chieftan
You can run it like an Agatha's Christi novel. A knife in the dark and the elimination of a minor but loud candidate. Who would want his death? The oppressive nation? A rival druid? Maybe the obvious suspect is not what is seems. Maybe indeed is a love affair/ a long and not forgotten grievance! I like this one!

  • 12:36 AM - Parmandur quoted gweinel in post What would you put in Volume 2 of Tales of the Yawning Portal
Why? There aren't so many references (one in DMG and one in MM? Did I miss something?). Also although Great Modron March is a good adventure (not the best Planescape imho - i prefer Dead Gods) i think it is too niche for the 1/3rd of wizard's book production in a year. There were mode than those two references, for sure: that and Modrons in general got a weird amount of attention on the books. A solid frame story to trapeze around the planes, at least...

How i would love a collection of Planescape adventures (with an update of all the plane/faction content into 5e). I wouldn't mind this collection would be "The Tales of Infinite Staircase." Given all the references in the core rule books, I imagine we'll see a Great Modron March AP when we start plane-hopping in this edition rather than a planar anthology. • 04:25 AM - SkidAce quoted gweinel in post What settings would you like to see in 5e?
Nobody mentioned Michael's Moorcock Eternal Campion series? What a shame! I would love to see Elric, Hawkmoon, Ericose,VonBek and all the other aspects of the Eternal Champion, their allies and enemies. Regarding wotc, i would instantly buy anything that has to with Planescape, Birthright and Mystara In talking with my friends, I think we are rapidly approaching a generation who has not read any of those. I do my best to introduce my friends to books that actually inspired many of the tropes they are familiar with, but its an uphill battle.

  • 12:18 AM - Harzel quoted gweinel in post Please critique my cultural caste (racial) traits
In my homebrew world i don't have different races (elves, dwarves, etc), but different cultures which work exactly as races. One of these cultures is Chattigar, which is very strictly caste based. Quite an interesting idea. Aatma caste Ability Score Increase: Your Charisma, Dexterity and Wisdom score increases by 1 To me, it seems like INT would be more appropriate than DEX for the Aatma. Chattigar Caste System: Hathiyaars are not permitted to follow a priestly or specific arcane paths. For that reason they cannot be priests, sorcerers, warlocks and wizards. If someone takes levels from these classes and is exposed then she either loses her social status and demoted to Manush caste, or she is punished with the death penalty. Did you mean Ajaati here? I don't see a 'Manush' caste. Sevak training: o You have bonus proficiency an artisan tool and land vehicles (elephants, camel, carts, etc). o You have proficiency with light armor, medium armor and short sword, short bow...

Some great proposals in the thread like Oath of Coven, Oath of Dragon and Oath of Liberation. I could see these three subclasses in my homebrew campaign. I would love to see the Oath of Balance. Which is actually an elemental Paladin who supports the balance between the core elements of world. Could have monkish philosophy behind it and could love great in a campaign like Dark Sun or any other where the Inner Planes have impact. Oh. I would definitely like to see an elemental themed paladin.
