With these new additions, it seems like the artillerist needs more work. In particular, the Wand Prototype ability. The Int boost to damage on only the cantrip in the wand (or both at 14th level) is underwhelming when compared to the Int boost to poison and healing that the alchemist gets, or the psychic damage boost for the archivist. Mind you, the alchemist gets to add the Int bonus twice on...

I would absolutely love a campaign setting boxed set, but more than likely it'll be a new starter set. The original Spelljammer boxed set is now print on demand on DM's Guild...including a hardcover version. Spelljammer 5e bosed set confirmed? Probably not, but who knows!

I mean, I spent $20 for a PDF a year ago as well. I bought it because I like Eberron and wanted to tell WotC "More of this, please!" And now, I'm getting more of it. The information that we were getting a hardcover at some point was out there, it's not a surprise, we just didn't know when it was happening. Quoted for truth.

It should be easy for some people to vote with their wallets then. The new hardcover certainly won't be required to run Eberron, especially if you already have the PDF. The downside of voting with your wallet in this sort of limited market is giving the wrong impression. In this case, that setting books are not wanted as opposed to setting books that have not already been published under this edition just in a digital format.

Pooooop! https://twitter.com/newbiedm/status/1129510649308966912 Well, the setting book for the year might still be Planescape, even if this adventure is more focused.

This is assuming that the Rick & Morty set even counts as a WotC release. The Stranger Things set is a Hasbro release, R&M could be the same. This opens up the possibility of having a Baldur's Gate: Descent into the Nine Hells, or whatever the sequel adventure could be called. Well, it probably counts as one of the four products that Nathan Stewart has alluded to being announced this weekend.

Here's something interesting: there's a placeholder up on Amazon advertising tomorrow's stream. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0786966777/ref=dbs_a_def_rwt_bibl_vppi_i44 They might count the miscellany set as one of the four products: it might even be the mentioned box set.

I have a feeling that'll be the way they do things going forward for settings that either require testing or are low on the popularity scale. Put out a PDF with all of the required information, open it up on DM's Guild, and move on. If it sells like hot cakes and has overwhelming positive feedback, they may do a hardcover for the setting or an AP. As far them releasing a Dark Sun PDF this year, I don't think that's likely...no matter how much I want it to happen. Psionics just aren't ready yet unfortunately. We're definitely getting our AP that involves the Nine Hells of Baator and Zariel, that probably starts in Baldur's Gate. I can see getting a setting book, my money is on Planescape or Spelljammer (no matter how much Nathan Stewart says "No") The boxed set is probably just another starter set for the Realms. Wild card product: something sci-fi. I like that Eberron is getting a lot of love in the predictions, but I don't think they're going to go that hard on it this edi...

Would it need to be time travel? Could the adventure just be set during that time? Or, and more likely, do we just witness it through a storytelling mechanism? Think the Ravenloft adventure "A Light in the Belfry," the one with the CD that would play out important moments with visions and phantasms.* *Note: I've never actually run or played through the adventure, a friend of mine had it and we listened to that CD a crapton. So I don't know exactly how those scenes played out, I just know that they did play out for the PCs to see, and I could see them trying something similar for this. Not exact, but similar. I guess we will find out, but I have no idea.

On today's Spoiler & Swag, Nathan Stewart mentioned that they're announcing 4 new products at the event. Four. Now mind you, that might include dice, DM's screen, map pack, etc. But still, FOUR. I hope it doesn't include stuff like dice. It'd be nice to learn about the next Adventure, next Player/DM book, and Next Setting.

I was watching the latest Spoilers & Swag and Nathan Stewart dropped a bit of a bomb towards the very end: "I will spoil one thing, that I think June, after The Descent, we're gonna follow up The Descent with another major announcement. Major AF."What comes after a descent? I think they are legally required to call this release "The Plummet." B-)

"Major A. F." A setting book would qualify as such, I think. But it could also be some concrete details about the movie, a videogame, and so on. They're already teasing a post-Descent announcement. I started a new thread about it, but this link should take you right to the spot it's mentioned towards the end of the last Spoilers & Swag: https://youtu.be/-yatYFcetOk?t=3526

Or maybe more book announcements? They're ramping up for something! I'm going with Dragonlance as a campaign setting book, just to stake a crazy claim.

  • 01:45 AM - Parmandur quoted vecna00 in post GameHole Con Hints At An "As Yet Unannounced Setting" for D&D This Year
A Planescape AP is almost a certainty this year, at least in my optimistic opinion. Now if it's an actual setting being released, Eberron is still on the table for a hardcover release, but wouldn't be until the artificer is fully finished. A Planescape setting hardcover wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility, and would certainly be a welcome one. I would not be surprised if it ends up being Spelljammer, just due to Nathan Stewart's endless trolling about it. I would absolutely love for it to be Dark Sun, but psionics are just nowhere near ready. I really don't think they'll be showcasing another section of the Realms, unless it's just used as a launching point for Planescape or Spelljammer. However, I would not be surprised if they pulled another Dragon Heist/DotMM. A smaller 1-5 AP set in Lantan, then 6-10+ in the Planes or Wildspace...I think I just talked myself into wanting this. An AP that starts along the Sword Coast in Tier II, and transitions to Sigil for Tier III/IV, would...

  • 08:53 AM - Ash Mantle quoted vecna00 in post Artificer UA has been released!
Heh. It's really funny how we all have different take aways from different settings. You mention this not fitting in Greyhawk. But, GH is a setting with fallen spaceships (multiple), one of the iconic wizards of the setting uses six-guns, and one of the first encounters in the Slave Lords modules involves a wagon mounted flamethrower and goblins (or orcs, I can't remember). The notion that artificers wouldn't fit in GH seems strange to me. Also the mentality of "X thing doesn't belong in Y setting because it wasn't in the original books for the setting." I mean, it didn't exist back then, so... I honestly think it's more the mentality of "I don't like it in these settings, therefore it doesn't belong."

  • 02:24 AM - R_J_K75 quoted vecna00 in post The New D&D Book Is Called "Ghosts of Saltmarsh" [UPDATED!]
Those were my exact thoughts when I first ran it, and it worked for my group. The PC captain would give orders and the NPCs would do the things. I just want to make sure that the rest of the party isn't just sitting there and twiddling their thumbs during this. In the rounds leading to boarding they could possibly set traps for boarders, rogues can hide for sneak attack, stage ammo, basically doing things that may provide advantage to them and the crew on the first round of attack. The round before boarding throw the tinker gnome overboard so hes caught in the gravity well circling the spelljammer and pops up over the battle for a surprise sneak attack to throw a powder keg blowing up the enemy ship. Depending on the arrangement with the Capt and the PCs they may have to take orders from him anyway.

[QUOTE=vecna00;7570511]When I initially ran a Spelljammer 5E game, i just did the ship combat as more of a narrative, until boarding happened. I was thinking I could keep the ship combat as is, but after a lot of thought it would be better if it were more modernized. Use hit points instead of hull points, make use of damage threshold, etc. I think it could work well with 5E's combat system. I agree with running combat more of a narrative until boarding becuase chances are the crew are going to be the ones manuevering the Spelljammer and manning the artillery onboard. They wont come into play until melee. Besides before boarding either the ships are gonna fire and close or try and evade/flee each other, which can be hand waived with a few simple dice rolls.

It's bad that I was up until 4 am drafting some notes for a 5E Spelljammer conversion, and I figured I may need to wait for this book for more ship stats that I can try to reverse engineer. The Scavenger in DotMM is a good start, but I need a few more examples. What exactly are you trying to convert?

Would you be oppsed to overhauled 2E rules for Spelljammer or using parts of another d20 game like Star Wars Saga Edition ship combat?
  • 03:07 PM - Parmandur quoted vecna00 in post Artificer UA to be released in February
I don't think it'll be a part of Dragon+ with the way Tito was talking about the two. In regards to Dragon+, he said that it was pretty much ready to upload during the recording of D&D News, while the UA was not quite done. Plus, I'm pretty sure they would flat-out say if the UA was going to release in Dragon+ instead of just being talked about within its pages. They could be released side-by-side though! Getting the first new Class widely sampled is important nto WotC: could be that tying it into the Dragon+ issue for exposure alongside the Ghosts of Saltmarsh announcement was part of the delay.
