About Me:
I started roleplaying somewhere between 1995-1996, though I had prior encounters with the stuff through the means of games like Dragon Strike (the one with the creepy VHS full of B-movie actors) and loads of Dragonlance novels from my dad. My first game was AD&D, which I kept playing regularly until 2002. I tried a couple of other games at the time, but AD&D was my favourite by far (I started DMing the stuff almost as soon as I started playing. That's what you get when your friends are all lazy bastards).

2002 coincided with my first year of university. While I still played with my regular life-long group (which is more or less the same group I play with to this day), I was asked to DM D&D 3.5 to a new group of lads I met there. I had no idea how to play the thing and I got the books less than a week before our first game, but despite the initial improvisation and the fact the group I was invited to ended including 12 players, it managed to hook me up enough to stop playing AD&D and switch completely to the new edition.

At the time I also started experimenting with new games. I ran a pretty long 7th Sea campaign between 2004-2007, and thout I don't get to play that game too much anymore, it became my second-favourite behind 3.5. Multiple other games on the background, with stuff like Space 1889 and Ars Magica gaining me over.

I think it was 2009 when I decided to give 4e a chance, but after 5 sessions (and noticing the player's reaction to the system), I rounded the group during pizza break and asked them what they thought; we ended going back to 3.5. A few days later, I ordered the Pathfinder books, just to see what the fuss was all about.

We moved from 3.5 to Pathfinder soon after, and it quickly became our main game, which we still play. I've run three major campaigns using it (one set in Golarion that ran between 2009 and 2011, one in a homemade setting between 2011 and 2013, and our current one set in Planescape).

More recently, I began DMing a D&D 5e campaign about pirates set in Forgotten Realms in early 2015, and the game won me over almost instantly. Though I still have deep love for (and an extensive library of) Pathfinder, I think 5e is the edition that will bring me back to D&D once and for all.

    As for the missing demiplanes: I'm always on the hunt for more information. However, while I cannot recall the Isle of Black Trees (I'll check it out!), I do seem to remember the Clockwork Gap showing up in a Dragon Magazine well into 3e, while the diagram is limited only to AD&D 2e stuff. Though maybe there's an older version that I'm missing! Do you know if it showed up during 2e in any capacity? The Isle of Black Trees showed up in 2e's 'The Eternal Boundary', though little more than a name drop. It got a tiny bit of detail in 3e (in the same article that featured the Clockwork Gap). :)

    Ohh, you are correct; it was in Firestorm Peak, not White Plume Mountain. I had my mountain-related D&D modules mixed together. Understandable :) I'm also pretty sure to have read about that somewhere, but when crafting the map I couldn't find the source in any of my Spelljammer or Planescape books (it's probably at the bottom of a single paragraph set in the corner of an art-heavy page purposely made to be missed. I had to read and re-read so much stuff to find details on all those worlds that it's not even funny, but I admit it added to the sort of esoteric mystery behind the cosmology), so I decided to leave it as a nondescript standard earth world until I could confirm it. If anyone remembers where the reference is, I'd be very appreciative. The original reference is either in the Illithiad (the 2e version of the 3.5e Lords of Madness) or the Dawn of the Overmind Spelljammer adventure (also 2e, which Google leads me to believe was the last of a trilogy of adventures alongside the Illithiad ...

    As for the Far Realm, when first introduced (in White Plume Mountain, I think?) it was just a weird place on the other side of a portal, and I believe it never got an update into an actual "other place" until the 3e Manual of the Planes, when it became the default source for tentacle magic. Incidentally, the Far Realm in the Gates of Firestorm Peak is indeed called the Far Realm. The adventure also has an 10th level Alienist who draws his power from the Far Realm and is trying to attract the attention of a Far Realm entity to act as his patron, so it's already a major source of tentacle magic, too. The Far Realm featured in that adventure is, as mentioned previously, a distant crystal sphere. However, it is suggested that the important variable is the vast distance (in both space and time) from the players' home sphere to the Far Realm sphere, suggesting that Far Realm-like places can be reached by traveling far enough in any direction, and/or by time-traveling far enough into the past or fut...

My understanding is that it was introduced in the Gates of Firestorm Peak, where it was a distant crystal sphere (and possibly also a distant time, the Vast Gate is said to be able to bridge any distance through both space and time). The map provided in the 5e DMG has paraelemental planes, but no quasielementals. Getting rid of quasielementals is probably a big part of why they moved the Positive and Negative planes out of the Inner planes in the first place. I think it was probably the other way around. Good clerics have been associated with Positive energy, and evil clerics with Negative energy, since at least 3rd edition. They probably moved the energy planes in order to firm up this Positive == Good, Neg...

    -"Expeditions" are extremely rare non-basic lands that get printed from time to time and can show up randomly in any booster, regardless of the set. These are always foil and can fetch prices well above 100 USD. I've heard they show up every 200 boosters, but I'm not sure if this is true. Almost. "Zendikar Expeditions" was a set within sets from the last block, Zendikar. They were "mythically" rare lands with a special "Zendikar" border that you could find in the "Battle for Zendikar" and "Oath of the Gatewatch" sets (basically 20 released for each set, 40 total). To my knowledge, previous sets did not have "Expedition" lands, and the current set, "Shadows over Innistrad" also does not have any of these special lands.

    -Damage to multiple creatures blocking a single attacker is now assigned by the active player (ie, the attacker), instead of the other way around. Been playing since Alpha. Pretty certain it has always been this way, unless one of the blockers has banding, which gives the defending player the ability to allocate where the damage goes.

    Same, pretty much. Green Ronin's 3e products were among the most solid, rules-wise, and quite creative. Their Psychic's Handbook was one of the few cases that I actually liked psionics rules. Looking forward to seeing this updated to 5e! Though I usually either fully homebrew gods or use the setting-appropriate pantheons, this book might be a very nice addition for those times I want to run something quick and don't feel like making a whole new set of deities. And as a source for stea... inspiring stuff. None of the books I've got from Green Ronin have disappointed, so I'll be certainly backing the KS. As usual, thanks for the heads up, Morrus!

    I also miss the page texture and smell. I'm not sure how it was on other printings (I've got the second Spanish printing), but there is something about that paper that I love. Then again, they say smell is the closes route to memory, so perhaps that's what's triggering the nostalgia for me. I spoke to one of the old TSR guys, and he said that they used Dryad dust specially energized by a Succubus, mixed in with the pulp of the paper. They took it out for later editions, kinda like when Coke took the cocaine out of their product.

    That's deep, man. Not really...it was just a quick summary of my feelings. I love Greyhawk because it was what I was introduced to and it was what the game was created with. But it was a hodgepodge of fantasy tropes and concepts lifted from a variety of sources. It wasn't really original in and of itself. All it really did was mash many different ideas together. Planescape took many of the core concepts of Greyhawk and D&D in general and created a setting that was more unique and had a specific feeling of its own.

    Hmm, not quite sure I liked the trailer. I'm still hopping we'll see something like Melissa McCarthy in Spy in the sense of a fun and unexpected spin, but judging solely by the trailer, it's a movie I'd probably watch on Netflix and skip on the big screen. I also admit to be a bit confused with all the -apparently IC- references to the old movies. I'm sure I've read or heard somewhere this one was supposed to be a reboot instead of a sequel or spin-off. Maybe a second trailer will polish the presentation and make it seem compelling to watch. It is a reboot. Just out of curiosity, what in-character references are you referring to? There is some text at the beginning that refers to the original film being released 30 years ago in the real world, but I haven't seen any in-character references to the original ghostbusters in the trailer for the new film.

    Under the DMs Guild program, you can publish D&D material that either 1.- has no setting or 2.- uses the Forgotten Realms setting. I'm glad you posted this.     ...us but he is not because while we value role playing we also value having a PC that makes sense to the world and the group. He is angry and a little bitter and he has made a point of trying to get us to switch to a different system like Hero he really dislikes DnD. The thing is none of the DMs want to run Hero system. I am looking at both Savage Worlds and HARP for my next turn in the DM seat or maybe even 7 Seas but right now we are playing in this DM 3.5 homebrew. He was DMing for awhile but we all hated the game because it was a railroad his story was all that mattered and we lacked any free will at all. What we did make zero difference. We sucked it up trying to learn the Hero system and played for six agonizing months hoping it would get better and we all sighed with relief when his work schedule got to busy to run. I know that I and my roommate who is DMing this game tried to talk to him about the rail roading but he just didn't seem to understand what we were saying. Cristian Andreu in this game we are not for the most part good characters we are all mercenaries we belong to a larger group and we only get paid when we succeed at what we are hired to do plus we work for a man who does not tolerate failure well. We all have characters who have issues mine for example is a disgraced knight set up and betrayed and blamed for the death of the her young noble charge. another is halfling rogue wanted for crimes including murder in another kingdom the murder may have been justified are so we are told and the cleric very chaotic cleric of luck who has huge gambling debts that he is constantly having to come up with money to pay off that and supporting his three mistresses that he is juggling. So it is hard for us to justify a role playing reason to keep taking this character with us on missions she is costing us money and standing in the guild. And my character who does still have some honorable traits left is furious because her not having any useful spells memori...
