Don't forget gaseous form :) Hmm, so in this hierarchy, a ghost can carry things. That does seem to be how it works, but I'd never appreciated it.

I think of it as a speed thing... you could swing a sword slowly through a ghost and not affect it, but swinging quickly causes damage by disrupting the ether or something. Similarly I'd play that if a wall fell on a ghost, it would take damage.

I agree with you on that. People get excited about the "army of sims" exploit, but even if you play the spell as straightforwardly as possible, it is still astonishingly powerful. IMO the spell should be something like: only at-will abilities, all damage is halved, and the sim has a max of like 20 hp. It would still be a great spell even with no combat utility at all, because it is ideal for...

It surely depends on the type of imprisonment. Hard to see why it wouldn't work with chains, hard to see how it would work with hedge prison or burial. I'd rule based on whether you can be in range of the target, and whether you can get the fingernail clippings etc. One edge case would be the gem prison, if you already had the clippings and were possessed of the gem. Does the imprisoned figure...

I can't wait to finish this race and post the final work. I have to say this one race has more done with it than some of the others, due to the fact of the interaction of the different genders. But keep in mind i made this to have those 6 genders for a reason, and only I know why and none of you have even gotten close to it. But how can you your caught up in facts and real world science when this...

Magic missile and simulacrum. MM is reasonably useful for nearly any character. Simulacrum lets you break the game. The chance of getting to use simulacrum optimally is probably low, but it you do then it’s the best.

That's not really what sequester does, it puts a (willing) creature in suspended animation and hides it away. AFAIK the gemstone trapping is part of imprisonment in 5e?

Even the one gender they treat badly they would never just turn it away to be alone it's not in their nature. I did it this way for a reason which will be documented at a later date, as it is meant to be an odd thing for the race that is...

By the way just a heads up this is the first go over for this race and before i am done i will check things like this before a formal release. Also unlike a professional writer i don't have a spell checker of a proof reader to help in this case.

dwayne, I appreciate that you came seeking feedback on the mechanics of your custom race, not the underlying fiction or the presentation. But unfortunately, the existence of more than two genders and how gender relates to sex are far too controversial of topics to reasonably expect this thread not to turn into an argument about that. As well, I understand this is a draft, and you intend to revise spelling and grammar later down the line, but those things very obviously need work now, and people are naturally going to be too distracted by it to ignore it and just give feedback on the mechanics alone. Any time you present a piece of work for public consumption, even if your aim is only to solicit feedback for a particular aspect of that work, you need to be prepared to receive feedback about the work in its entirety, because that’s what you’re going to get. The best way to do that is to make sure that your work is polished to the best of your ability before releasing it publicly, and to accept ...

dwayne - Thank you for supporting the project! I appreciate it. ccooke - I hope you do choose to back us, if you haven't already. If you did - Thank you, as well. Story is very important to us and we used Arcanis because, well it is our flagship setting as well as having won numerous awards, so it has a special place in our hearts. But you bring up the Screaming Sword's back story as dead weight, so let's look at that: It's basically a sword that houses the soul of a dwarf in a gem affixed to the weapon. Ignoring the whole Arcanis dwarven curse backstory, the story can still track fairly well with just the portion that dwarven souls are being harvested to "power" the blade. You can use these swords to cause emnity between humans and dwarves or just between dwarves and the wielder of the weapon (whether a PC or NPC). Have a group of dwarven clerics and paladins as members of an Order that tracks down these swords and destroys them to release the souls. I can even see a player with a...

Cheers. BTW. Magistus71. I (and another member of our group), had a go at some armor properties, but most seemed lame, or just cancelled out weapon properties, which to me just opens up a cyclic arms race. The weapon qualities already represent how they work with armor. Doing the reverse seemed kind of silly. If interested, here is a link to the brief discussion on our forums, as to why this has not taken off: http://connorscampaigns.wikidot.com/forum/t-1310834/armor-qualities. If you have more to add, I am listening ;)

I promise, explanations and expansion of all that is this small and might add controversial race will be revealed at a later date when i am done with the races for players as a whole. Mean while please continue as this is very good material on my end and might even use a snip it or two to help fill in some of the cracks that i have been stuck on or not. Don't take it personally. As Charlaquin said upthread, it's just a touchy subject right now, and people are quick to assume you have a message, even though it sounds like that wasn't your intention. (FWIW, I don't have a problem with imaginary alien biology for imaginary alien species.)

Just because you are unhappy about it does not make it okay to get aggressive with people. You put it out there in a public discussion forum. You should have been ready for discussion before you did that. Consider that for next time.

Each on carries part of the total of what is needed to make their life form, like in a recipe each is needed other wise ti will not happen. Note that this is not how such works in on our world. There are many life forms on our world with more than two sexes/genders - but it is not that you need genetic material from each to procreate. It is, instead more a restriction on who you can successfully mate with. Gender A can mate with B. Gender B can mate with A, C, or D. Gender C and mate with B, but not A or D. And so on.

Each on carries part of the total of what is needed to make their life form, like in a recipe each is needed other wise ti will not happen. I read the description. I have to say I find them to be horrible people as a race for their treatment of the "genderless" variety. They make orcs seem pleasant and friendly. After all orcs treat everyone equally. Equally bad. But equally. Seems to me though that once artificial insemination became an available technology for them it would hit their culture like reliable birth control hit our world.
  • 11:26 PM - Scott Graves quoted dwayne in post The Pilosus, a player race with 6 Genders for your 5th edition Sci Fi setting
Each on carries part of the total of what is needed to make their life form, like in a recipe each is needed other wise ti will not happen. That isn't helpful. The Newcomers in Alien Nation had a cool set up where the male impregnated the female in much the normal way, but only during a certain time of year (They had a cool insult which translates to "you mate out of season") because they are very ritual based. But at one point the male starts to develop a pouch and in yet another real cool ceremony they then transfer the infant from the female to the male pouch in which it resides for the other half of the gestation period. It is a way cool deal and it only takes two genders. So when I ask "how do they do it" I am genuinely curious about the methodology.

since they killed the wizards power because the fighters seemed left out and the warlock was getting his butt handed to him, yes little can be done with the wizard neutered edition of d&d 5th edition as it is. I like the old glass cannon wizard of old, and thank goodness i found a working class some one did on line. People don't play a class any more its dip in this and that and then wonder why they die horribly. Over all i like 5th, less power creep than 3rd x any way but i feel they lost too much of it with the over simplifying of the system. But thank fully for me it's not to hard to fix the crappy parts and the options in the DM guide does help much as well. The thing is most these spells are so low level and most of the mid to high ones i used back in the day are not in the books. What do you mean by "wizard of old"? 3rd edition? Because TSR D&D, the magic users were a lot more "neutered" than in 5e, so it wouldn't make sense be referring to those editions. Between needing to pass ...

This is what i was talking about https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epic_Level_Handbook being over 50 you should have known this. Those "events" don't mean crap to the bigger picture as they may cause a draw but a setting and material would draw much more. If he was talking about some dumb game con thing i would think he would have said that, as this seemed more of a hint. But again i tend to read more into things than most and over estimate the intelligence of people which always disappoint me in the end. Everyone got that you were thinking about that: however, Epic is a specific kind of Adventurers League event held at conventions, which is what is being referenced clearly in the post. The significant thing is that one of WotC preferred conventions is having a big organized play event in an unannounced campaign setting.

Epic is also was used for level above 20 in D&D before some dumb event thing, i really doubt that is what he was talking about here. Here is the full text from Valley's Facebook post: This year, Gamehole Con will feature the following premiere D&D Adventurers League content: • A Liar’s Night (Halloween) EPIC masquerade event written by Elisa Teague and Lysa Chen. • The premiere of an Epic event set in as yet unannounced setting. • The premiere of adventures set in as yet unannounced setting. • The premiere of a Season 9 Epic • The premiere of Season 9 adventures. See how it says Adventurer's League for everything listed?

Also the word Epic event, might be a hint to rules above 20 and the planes would be a good fit with that as well No, an Epic is a standard style of Adventurer's League scenario. They span multiple tables, and multiple tiers, all playing through the same adventure at the same time, generally with a winning table chosen from each tier at the end. This is all about getting AL DMs for the convention.

Darksun would make sense as the whole psionics "mystic" class and material would be a major part of the setting. But planescape is on my wish list beside greyhawk and mysteria/ Hollow World on bottom. The Mystic/Psion is still in the Limbo of UA and Happy Fun Hour, though. I’ll believe Darksun is coming when I see a Psion UA that actually performs well in the surveys. Same goes for Eberron and the Artificer.

Why not just have perforated cards in back with stats on them so you can remove and keep handy with all information. No need to put any thing other than name as all on card in back of adventure or book. Not sure the actual reasons, but my guesses, and my reasons are: They want you to buy the Monster Manual, which is why they only bold the names of monsters from the MM, and only give stats in an appendix for new monsters. It costs more to print special pull-out pages, which means to keep the price point in line with what consumers expect from a 5e adventure hardback, they would have to subtract from the actual adventure content (the story, location descriptions, maps). Pull out materials are hard to keep with the hardback. Many consumers, like myself, find them annoying. Many consumers (like myself) do not want to adulterate our modules to play them. I buy the books to enjoy and read through, but for adventures I run, I run from DnD Beyond or Realm Works. I want to keep my books in nic...

It would be ok but i have seen this from back at the start of D&D add more and revise oh wait lets re release all the books again and make it annoying to convert so everyone would buy the new ones. D&D started this back with 2nd edition, then 3, 3.5 then crashed it with 4th now with 5th which is so watered down its pathetic from what it was. So the standard is change some core mechanics and re release it as a new updated version resale all to the same people and after a few years or less in some cases do it all over again. Sorry this boy bought into the 2nd and have vast amounts of it, did again for 3rd and stopped at 3.5, I got the basic books for 5th but that's where i draw the line. But go ahead and dish out the money for a product that will be up dated in a few more years, they live off your money.
