First put the car on the jack. Raise the car off the ground about six inches. Roll down the driver side window. Straight the wheel. Yell at Satyrn to see if the front wheels are straight. Turn wheel left or right as need until front wheels are straight. Take cover of wheel. Loosen the nut. (Not me or Satyrn). Move wheel unit is the correct position. This should complete your front end alignment.

It is a word problem before the math. I deal with a lot of accounting math. If someone has net insurance the cost is 0. Sharpshooter insurance is +5. Then Net Insurance + Sharpshooter insurance + ability mod insurance = insurance result. If net insurance set insurance result to 0. or to put into game terms. Sharpshooter damage is +5. Stat damage is + y.Weapon damage is x. Net damage is 0....

That is what you want the argument to be. As a DM I rule that "No damage not = 0 damage". So Sneak Attack, Sharpshooter, etc would not apply to a net. You can continue to argue but you will not change my mind even I all the creators would arrive at my house to argue in your favor. I seen these arguments since the early 80s where people what all common language rules to apply, when the game uses...

I took two methods to deal with them. One was either gang up on the pc (no damage to party). The other, ignore the pc and dog pile the others (damage the party). But it will balance out soon as some tier two monsters can tag him.

No the net is on the weapon chart for easy of finding it. A hit with a net cause the restrained condition. A condition is an effect, not damage. And I would not allow any feat, bs, language lawyering, etc for a normal net do damage. Also the property of a net is SPECIAL. So since specific over rides general. The Special effect means the No damage is not zero.

Hmm. None of the books are worth a movie. Maybe a HBO miniseries. But for a movie 2.5 hours long. I6 ravenloft as I ran in 84. Note the bad guy was winning but I had PDS to West Berlin and wrap up the adventure. So a certain villain would win and close with him popping a beer and watching the new adventures jumping off a roof. This would be after the end credits.

-- is not an integer. Non-numeric. Null only. Non-alphanumeric. I would laugh if someone demanded/ask to have an ability/feat cause damage with a net. Remember some times things are place on charts just for easy of look shi.... stuff up.

If they are playing a goblin and the theme of module is we are having trouble with tribe of goblins. I do get on some people nerves when the town folk are not nice to the pc.

This is one area that I think digital excels at. When I use my VTT online or in person, rooms get three descriptions. First the players see the map. Second they get the "boxed text" in the chat window they can read. Third they get my audio description. This means I almost never have to describe size. It means that players get major information in 3 ways. So that people (like me) who often have...

And at low levels I'm careful about allowing any one player to get enough money to buy full plate....

Hussar…I mean, this is English 101 stuff. Any first year university student can tell you the same thing. The notion that the author is a sole or even important element in interpretation died decades ago…. I still laugh at this. Especially since college English teachers must publish something or lose their jobs. And first years have to do term papers in a way that sucks up to said teachers....

A very okay rant. To sum up. "Orcs Bill Bono called them Gob Stompers!" I may be misquoting the author. When I was school depending on the story, them thar fey persons who worked on shoes during the night shift were called elves, gnomes, fairies, and some times other things. Question, How many of you have encounter different words which mean the same thang? Now I am off to get a Coke.

metal man bad, us orcs dog pile the mage. It depends on the dice ( those son of beeeeeppppp!), tactics, and + to hit. Monsters can go around most of the time. Fall back and range. Run away. Generally the game is set up for the party to win. Which is okay. Don't let them do 5 minute days. Think tactically. etc.

As An Adventure League DM I would allow it. Modules ddal04-09 and ddal08-11 give out Glamoured Studded Leather +1 which is AC 13. Sage Advice in AL is not official but it is a nice reference. I don’t totally agree with all Sage Advice but most of the time if some one brings it up on their phone, I will allow it just to move the game on. But as always with AL “table variations”. Studded...

The DM can be someone they have never played with before. Their is no guarantee, in this situation, of their being an existing relationship with the DM prior to sitting down at the table. Yet the thread continues to ramble doesn't it? :) +1 Such responses don't help the OP at all. And are just what the OP asked not be discussed. Except the PHB is not clear if Studded Leather is "Metal Armor". Heat Metal seems to indicate it might not be. Typically we think of studs as being made of metal. But does that mean it's metal armor? The PHB just doesn't say.

...an that of an English longbow so it might have somewhat better chances, but even the worst arquebus bullet will have kinetic energy 5x- 10x of a longbow. As I stated the cause of death was often not the wound but an infection. So main purpose of medieval armor was not to get hit less but to not get hit at all Why? Because of infection risk. Of course in the beginning longbows would more often penetrate the lesser armor but as soon as good suits of full plate were available at least for knights and nobility they would only get taken our by a lucky arrow through the helmet slit or such, The hail of longbow arrows might be stressing or irritating and might kill their horse or their worse clad underlings but the knights were close to invulnerable. I recommend you check up the vids of scholagladiatora on youtube this guy does talk a lot about all kinds of weapons and also missconceptions like longbow arrows or katanas cutting through hardened steel - they only do that in holywood. @jasper matt Easton also did some videos on the battle of agnicourt and longbow use ethere and how it did affect various troops.

  • 11:00 AM - Hussar mentioned jasper in post Burning Questions: Why Do DMs Limit Official WOTC Material?
...nvincing the group that this was a good idea. But, at no point could I simply say, "Well, either I run it this way or someone else runs" because, well, I'd be shunted to the player seat so fast I'd have burns on my cheeks. :D At the end of the day, I look at what makes DMing fun for me is knowing that I ran the most enjoyable game I could for this group. The more fun that the players are having, the more fun I have. Which generally means that yup, I'll put my preferences behind what the players want most of the time. If I can convince the players that my ideas are good enough, then, yay, I get what I want. But, otherwise, I'm pretty much stuck if I want to run a game where any of the players aren't interested. So, to use the Matt Mercer example. A DM who is unwilling to listen to what his or her players clearly state that they want, and adjust to their tastes, is a bad DM. DMing should always be about listening to the players and giving them what they want. To use jasper's example, to me it's unbelievable that the group would exclude a friend just so they could go eat Chinese food. That's a pretty dick move. That's not what I want my friends to do and I would never do that to a friend. "Hey, we're all going somewhere that you hate, see you later" when there are obviously other options available is unbelievable to me. That would be the last time I went anywhere with you. And, if I'm late coming to the car, you're going to take my wife home and leave me there? Yeah, number one, I'd be looking for a new wife pretty quickly if she didn't get out of that car and number two, that would be the absolute last time I'd associate with you.

  • 08:31 AM - Coroc mentioned jasper in post Do You Play in AL?
jasper Sorry, but that is not the point, it is hard to find players, although I have my private group I would like to have a more established publically organized alternative also. So I am a bit jealous about the way it seems to be in the U.S., where you seem to have a lot more players, and the habitus that you can meet up in a game store to find interested people. This does not exist in that way in Germany, at least I am not aware of.

  • 10:11 PM - iserith mentioned jasper in post Missed session catch-up XP
...s what the guys flanking from the back are for. Do your enemies never have ranged or area effect attacks? All it takes is one boulder from that hill giant to take out that annoying gnat in the back permanently. So I call BS. Well, at least it's BS that these tactics would work in every game. Tactics cannot overcome the fact that low level PCs likely won't survive even a single hit or AOE. You may note that I did not make assertion to the effect that "these tactics would work in every game." You are attacking a strawman. I am not obligated to defend a position I do not hold. I really wish you would stop doing this. It makes conversations with you completely unproductive except to warn others who may be reading to be careful about engaging with you. And I don't know how much more of that particular public service I'm up for or how much more that point needs demonstrating. I gave that example to show that party cohesion and tactics play a big role in survival. That speaks to jasper's point about AL lacking in those things (or my point about that being true of many pickup groups) and it also goes to whether characters of the same level or disparate level are successful. Further, I have already given you ways to deal with hill giants in general. Look, I'm sorry that you and your wife's characters were killed. But there are a lot of reasons why that may be outside of having lower-level characters as I've shown several times.

  • 01:36 PM - Coroc mentioned jasper in post Sleep Spell and Chain Awakening
jasper two things about that, if some Mobs run the logic thing is to chase them they might fetch backup else, which does not improve the chance for a successful rest. The bad luck here was that the Party chasing ran into the backup. The goblins chain awakening - the unlogic part about that is - that the first goblin would try to either run and leave his buddies OR the other Option for the first gob awake would be to try and wake up ALL of his buddies, and NOT RUN after the first. Otherwise the DM is gaming the System. A quick Investigation / medicine / arcana check to decide what would be the most logic reeaction of the goblin would also be in order for the gob to estimate whether his comrades are asleep or dead.

You seem upset. Are you sure you're not just being hysterical and blowing innocent comments out of proportion? Long thread. Catching up. I'm just going to point this out; as much as I hate to agree with @jasper in this thread, he has a point here. I really hate trolls. I hate the trolls that invaded this thread (and if you read them before they were deleted, you know what I'm talking about). But I also don't like trolls even if they happen to agree with my point of view. What you are doing is trolling. You might think it is cute, or funny, or that the ends justify the means, or that it is completely appropriate given the number of evil, misogynistic trolls that have flooded this thread. It's not. For you to repeatedly make the same comment, asking for social security numbers, and to implicitly call people that disagree with you harassers, is a form of harassment. This latest comment that I have quoted is pure trolling. If you had been making those comments to me, I would have reported you for harassment; asking for people's social security numbers on an on-line forum is never appropriate. There are a lot of good, interesting, and substantive things people have said on this thread. Becau...

  • 04:46 PM - delericho mentioned jasper in post Where Do They Get Their Literacy?
Literacy, or the lack thereof, and languages in general, is one of those areas where I would really like for the game to pay quite a bit more attention... while at the same time finding it to be a huge pain whenever it does. jasper and Eltab basically summed it up: language barriers serve as a roadblock that can all-too-readily prevent the players best able to (or most interested in) getting involved in a scene. And, in cases where the entire party lack the key language, they can completely derail the adventure - much like a riddle the PCs can't (but must) solve, or a secret door they can't (but must) find. (And then, to get round that the game provides a solution in the form of an easily-cast spell, turning an insurmountable roadblock into a trivial speed-bump. I'm not sure that's better.) With languages, I'm inclined to mostly handwave them - assume just about everyone speaks Common and just about everyone is literate... until, very occasionally, you hit a situation where they are not. For instance, the PCs might be teleported half a world away, and so for one adventure they then need to deal with a language barrier. Keep it up just long enough to be interesting... and the moment it's not declare that the...

  • 04:05 PM - MechaTarrasque mentioned jasper in post Stampede
I think this is a connotation vs. denotation issue. The dictionary definition (as seen at http://www.dictionary.com/browse/stampede?s=t) does not specify "open spaces", but does mention "frightened animals" (like those escaping the fire in jasper's post), but the connotation (largely from to Western and Tarzan movies) is of large animals on an open plane. This is useful since the DM should have to decide what kind (or at least how large) of animals are stampeding. If it is a bunch of big animals, I would treat it as if two animals attacked each PC every round, if it is a bunch of little animals, one or two swarms should do it, and if it is a mix, maybe one large animal and one swarm per round.

The sword is a sword thing is a bit of a myth, military tactics changed a huge amount over 1500 years, You went from unarmored masses to hoplites to legions to cataphracts and then to Knights and then things like Tercio and Landsknect. Yes, military tactics indeed changed over the centuries, but the basic form of the sword did not. A sword from 400 BC would be entirely recognisable and usable by someone in 1400 AD. As jasper alludes, a sword is a tool. How the tool is used is a separate question.

  • 03:23 PM - KahlessNestor mentioned jasper in post Please remove Demiplane of Dread Story Award next season
jasper Your condescending tone doesn’t help any, nor do half your responses. Who cares what you gaming store schedule is? It's not even relevant. Do you know anyone who even still runs S4 content? No one. There's a reason for that. It's because no one wants to lose their character to a stupid story reward. I had 2 characters get locked in because I can't make it every week. It isn't just a portabolity issue. It's also a frequency of play issue. AL needs to be not just portable, but also drop on/drop out. Demiplane of Dread works against both of these core tenets of Organized Play. Story rewards shouldn't undermine the basic core of your program. Reward players who can make it, but don't punish those who can't. Luckily I was abke to buy my bard out of Barovia, but my druid wasn’t so lucky. I had to rely on DM mercy letting me go into DTD debt to play her at a con. Ad now I can't play her and get dinosaur forms because of the damn death curse, another poorly thought out story "reward". S...

  • 05:52 PM - Kobold Boots mentioned jasper in post Are powergamers a problem and do you allow them to play in your games?
jasper Replying to you this way as your quote tags are messed up so I'd rather be clear than sort that out. 1. Talking is never the best first idea with any problem or most situations. Figuring out the problem is. Reason: Talk without data is opinion and generally a waste of time. 2. If you don't like the person you're gaming with, that's the problem. The power gaming is secondary. 3. If you do like the person you're gaming with and he or she is a power gamer, then the solution is pretty easy. Do the stats, scale the encounters, you're done. 4. Best advice to DMs who think they're scaling things without doing the stats is, "Don't trust your gut" it got you in trouble in the first place and is why you're having the problem. Nuff said here because I offered help and you replied back with something silly, so I'm done with you. Be well KB

This is terribe advice. I'm chaotic neutral, which means I have to say it's straight when it's not.

I had to stop for fear of clawing my eyes out. I agree that the chances of the D&D movie going hard R are not likely. It's just not needed to tell the tale (whereas, yeah, with Deadpool, Logan, and Game of Thrones, it was needed). Heck, I spend enough time as it is yelling at certain people at one of my tables that the campaign is PG-13 rated! Note to self. Take dvd off shelf and finally watch this movie.

  • 05:48 PM - FrogReaver quoted jasper in post Can Sharpshooter be used with a Net?
It is a word problem before the math. I deal with a lot of accounting math. If someone has net insurance the cost is 0. Sharpshooter insurance is +5. Then Net Insurance + Sharpshooter insurance + ability mod insurance = insurance result. If net insurance set insurance result to 0. or to put into game terms. Sharpshooter damage is +5. Stat damage is + y.Weapon damage is x. Net damage is 0. Formula and code. If hit damage = sharpshooter damage + ability damage + weapon damage= result. If result > 0 if weapon = net move 0 to result. ***comment nets are exception to see heat ticket D&D 5E. See page number 70 of data dictionary. *** If that drives you crazy, I have accountants freak out because the same one cent gets given to two different brothers during different parts payroll. If net Yes that is the same concept that f(x) = 0 denotes. There’s no need to try to force set theory and null values when the situation can be described as always setting the damage to 0. More important...
  • 05:00 PM - FrogReaver quoted jasper in post Can Sharpshooter be used with a Net?
That is what you want the argument to be. As a DM I rule that "No damage not = 0 damage". So Sneak Attack, Sharpshooter, etc would not apply to a net. You can continue to argue but you will not change my mind even I all the creators would arrive at my house to argue in your favor. I seen these arguments since the early 80s where people what all common language rules to apply, when the game uses common language to mean game terms. AKA Monks save vs Death magic for no damage. Even if Thor smites with a certain hammer. Huh? My first post in this thread was play this RAI. At this point I’m just here to correct the faulty math. No damage = 0 damage just like no apples = 0 apples
  • 04:30 PM - FrogReaver quoted jasper in post Can Sharpshooter be used with a Net?
No the net is on the weapon chart for easy of finding it. A hit with a net cause the restrained condition. A condition is an effect, not damage. And I would not allow any feat, bs, language lawyering, etc for a normal net do damage. Also the property of a net is SPECIAL. So since specific over rides general. The Special effect means the No damage is not zero. The net is a special weapon that restrains. Since restraining causes no damage then the net causes no damage. Since no damage is 0 damage then the net does 0 damage.
  • 03:27 PM - Ralif Redhammer quoted jasper in post Why, Why, Why?
Oy, I've yet to encounter any of that, but I know that sort of thing is out there. And honestly, I'm not sure what I'd do if someone rolled up to the table all decked out - that kind of stuff can be done by the books, but it's certainly not "sportsmanlike" conduct. I have asked too. The player shut me down with his honesty. He found a friendly AL dm. Just before Season 8 started he and a group of his friends went farming various modules and adventures. All his fighters have +1 flame tongues.
  • 02:14 PM - FrogReaver quoted jasper in post Can Sharpshooter be used with a Net?
-- is not an integer. Non-numeric. Null only. Non-alphanumeric. I would laugh if someone demanded/ask to have an ability/feat cause damage with a net. Remember some times things are place on charts just for easy of look shi.... stuff up. No damage = 0 damage. If the net does no damage then it does 0 damage.

  • 11:01 PM - BoxCrayonTales quoted jasper in post Mind if I pedantically complain that monster manuals butcher myth/folklore/fairytale?
D&D is a game about killing monsters, so if the monsters don't already to conform to that role, then they either need to be changed to fit or omitted from the game. Other games are not about killing monsters, so if you really want to give the creatures a fair shake, then you'd be better off dealing with them there. If you really want an accurate take on the wendigo (for example), then you shouldn't look for it in a game that assumes every problem can be fixed with a sword.I’ve always been frustrated by the inordinate focus on violence in RPGs. Plenty of fantasy stories resolved encounters with non-violent solutions. I’m not suggesting adding mental/social hit points or using a genuinely universal task resolution mechanic a la Risus, but I wish the rules had offered XP for any method of conflict resolution. Well, if we're going to be pedants here, no, it is not creatively bankrupt to re-imagine monsters as something different from their lore. However, taking my pedant hat off and lo...

Since every DM needs the MM to run. I can to do in one line. Clay Golem AC 14 HP 133 XP 5,000 MM 168 Evil jasper, " I can do in 14 characters" Clay Golem MM 168 Nice Jasper , " I do in one line and add flavor text" Clay Golem MM 168 Looks lie Granny from Bevelry Hillbillies and uses a frying pan for damage. I find the most helpful stat to include in in-line stat block is the Dexterity bonus - then I can roll init and find the full stat block while players are rolling theirs!

It may be an art piece. The buyer told the glass maker what he want and the glass maker did his best. I really don't think it's simply an artistic embellishment. Virtually everything else known in that window has some significance. Every other item has some specific symbolism or meaning, from the arms of the Diocese in one place, to the 4 authors of the Gospels, to various panes referencing specific Bible verses, to the use of maple leaves for decoration because the artist was Canadian. The artist included a rather extensive description of the window that lists the symbolism and meaning of everything there. . .with the apparent exception of that coat of arms buried in the lower right hand window. I wondered if it's something of an artists signature, like the arms might be affiliated with the artist. . .but the arms themselves are an impalement of what seems to be something tied to the British royal family (the dexter/right side) and something religious (the sinister/left side), ...
