Deuce Traveler and Lwaxy, your ingredients have been posted in the tournament thread.
  • 10:00 PM - Rune mentioned Lwaxy in post Round 1, Match 4: Deuce Traveler vs. Lwaxy
Deuce Traveler and Lwaxy, you have 24 hours to post your entries to this thread. Please limit your entry to a title, a list of the ingredients used and 750 additional words. Please include your list of ingredients at the beginning of the entry and please do not edit your post once it is submitted. Please refrain from reading your opponent's entry until after you have posted your own. You are on your honor to do so. Entries that are between 1 and 59 minutes late will have their word-limits reduced to 675. Later entries that are at less than 1 day late will have their word-limits reduced to 525. Entries that are at least 1 day late will have their word-limits reduced to 375. In addition, entries that are at least 2 days late may be disqualified at the discretion of the judge with consent from the match's opposing competitor. Entries that exceed their word-limits will be considered to end once they reach that limit; I will ignore everything after. Your ingredients are: Forsaken Avatar Ruined Vassal Twi...

Congratulations to Deuce Traveler. Looks like you held on to your title! And good job to everyone else involved. I would also like to thank my fellow judges for their work; and kudos to Lwaxy for slugging through what sounds like a nasty bug to help us bring this across the finished line. Onlooker's feel free to pontificate on the contest, congratulate the participants, and give experience points all around. :)

Just curious if Lwaxy still intends to post a judgement for R2M2. I've got commentary and analysis on my entry written before judgements, as well as some after the first two. I was going to incorporate commentary based on all three, but if that third one is not happening, I can just go ahead and post. I mean, I get why it might feel like a waste of Lwaxy's time, but I don't personally think any thoughtful and constructive critique of an entry is ever wasteful. A lot of the learning that IRON DM fosters is through direct experience, sure, but a lot comes from that outside perspective. Of course, I understand Lwaxy has been sick and busy, as well. I'm not trying to be pushy, or anything. I'm just saying that I (and probably also Imhotepthewise, if not others) am still interested in what our third judge has to say.

  • 05:44 AM - Josiah Stoll quoted Lwaxy in post Where are all the great spy RPGs?
You can do espionage with basically any system. And despite the technological part of espionage nowadays, there is still a lot humans will need to do. Or you could place it all in the 80s, Problem solved. I did love Burn Notice up to a point where it became a little bit too complicated and depressing, like many series nowadays. I always loved the A-Team, too. (Long post, ye have been warned) I was going to write something like this. I play a lot of Pathfinder and D&D, which normally don’t lend themselves well to “stealth-based” games, but I was thinking a couple of weeks ago: what do spies do in Golarion and the Forgotten Realms? I mean, secrets are still important, so there should be people that sell them... right? Here’s what I worked up for a 5e game: 1. Ignore the “Fighter-Mage-Thief-Cleric setup. It was bad, anyways (Druids are gods, after all). Plus, that setup assumes you are going to be fighting most of your enemies. Instead, you need something like: Someone who can “scout...

  • 12:25 AM - Rune quoted Lwaxy in post Scheduling for the IRON DM 2017 Tournament
It's difficult because most of the ingredients are aimed at fantasy. Superficially, yes, but I try very hard not to include ingredients that I can't personally fit into other genres with a few minutes of consideration. Only worked because trolls count as goblins in SR. It's been so long since I've looked at Shadowrun, that one flew right past me. I doubt calling my attention to it would have changed my opinion, though; the adventure doesn't need them to be trolls, nor tribal. Maybe next year I'll have more than 3 1/2 hours to do something. :) One could hope. We're happy to have you participate. If you'd still like to post some morr in-depth insights into your process over in the other thread, I'm sure we'd all appreciate it!

I'm going by EST, old habit, as I am normally free from around Midnight on. I'm a night owl. Midday is fine for me, too, though. I either get it done in less than 6 hrs or I'm beyond hope anyway, hehe. In that case, how about something in the middle? Say, 4 PM-ish Eastern Saturday? Unless Deuce Traveler would prefer otherwise?

  • 09:14 PM - jimtillman quoted Lwaxy in post Starfinder: First Impressions
Uh, it does work, it just takes time. Which I don't have over Xmas. And in case you haven't noticed, they exist in the same setting, even if they did away with Golarion (which will not likely happen in our version). So yeah, we need to combine. The Starfarer's Companion is helpful of course. I need to houserule several things in Starfinder anyway, so it's all in one go. If I use the rules for another setting, which is likely to happen, I can use the rules as they are for the most part, save the insane character advancements and minus the magic. what do you need to house rule and why? so far the games i have been running and the 1 i played in worked great/ what weakness do you perceive ? what do you feel would work better if changed?

  • 11:52 PM - jimtillman quoted Lwaxy in post Starfinder: First Impressions
I'm not yet done adapting Starfinder and Pathfinder into one, as 2 of my groups are going to play crossovers in any case and most of the others might. So we end up with Starpathfinder eventually. for my taste, rules could have been closer to PF to make it easier to combine:hmm: you could always get the starfarers companion and user there examples of pathfinder classes for starfinder..or just take the time to covert them over yourself. i would not make starfinder more like pathfinder though,

They're completely different games. Space opera and fantasy. Why would you combine them and then complain it doesn't work? Sent from my SM-G900P using EN World mobile app

Then it would be a 1018 contest and not 2017 :) Oh god! That is quite the time travel! Back to being serious. There is only a few weeks left of 2017, and we don't even have everyone signed up. I suppose we can do it, but it would be all rushed, right?

  • 05:18 AM - Rune quoted Lwaxy in post Scheduling for the IRON DM 2017 Tournament
I can judge but not write, considering I'm running 13 games right now which mostly need a little prep time, too. :) Wow, 13 games! That's awesome! Since no one answered the summons on the RBDM boards, I went ahead and started things rolling solo this year. Given our late start, I don't think we have time to coordinate a 3-judge panel (particularly since we would still have to enlist a third). Not to worry, though. Ain't my first rodeo. Of course, I've always found judging takes way more time than competing (even if the time crunch is more intense on the contestants' side). Just sayin'...

  • 10:31 PM - Quickleaf quoted Lwaxy in post What class would complement this party?
Battle or Warsighted would both work well. I used Battle Mystery, mainly because we had little in the way of melee. For your concept a ranger or druid would likely work best. What about this,if your GM is open to new stuff http://www.pathfindercommunity.net/classes/multiclass-archetypes/druid/crow-druid-druid-rogue Very cool! Thanks Lwaxy :) I'll have to run that by the group's GM.
  • 03:27 AM - Quickleaf quoted Lwaxy in post What class would complement this party?
Yeah if you want to try a different class from the old D&D stuff, Oracle is a good choice indeed. But oracles have a curse which may hamper them. But they can fight. I played a mute combat oracle for more than 4 years. Really? Oracles can fight well? I was comparing them to bards – same BAB, worse weapons profs. than bards but better armor profs. – and thought they looked more like a caster than a warrior. How did you make your "fighting oracle", was it by selecting the Battle Mystery? Which makes sense, but probably wouldn't fit my concept.

  • 07:03 PM - Quickleaf quoted Lwaxy in post What class would complement this party?
I have a little 3.5e experience, but am very new to Pathfinder. On the rare occasions I get to be a player, I generally veer toward easy-to-run warrior or scoundrel types, usually avoid too much spellcasting; just personal preference as I like to play with minimum of looking stuff up. Here's my character concept: Dietrich Aust the Thieftaker, a thief-turned-church-spy, a dyed-in-the-wool politico with the mind of a mousetrap and a pragmatic faith tempered by rigorous scruples. Even better if I can make him a "master of ravens" type. And even better if he has a bit of soldiering skill. Rusty thieving skills, but really good at social skills & knowing the right people / calling in favors / gaining leverage and applying blackmail. Yeah, healer is needed. Druid, cleric, Paladin or maybe Ranger. Thanks! Sounds like when it comes to healing, you need to play a spellcaster? Tentatively was exploring stating my character as a Rogue 1, Ranger (guildbreaker) 5 with secondary Cleric clas...

  • 04:56 PM - neobolts quoted Lwaxy in post North Texas RPG Convention Refuses To Listen To Harassment Concerns
For the whole "convention rules" and stuff, you know some people just don't like or even detest all of this formal babble, which I can understand. In theory, everyone should understand his simple policy of "only gaming" at his con. And I missed where he says he has no interest in politics. He's clearly referring to the convention, not his personal opinions on anything. He won't discuss politics at the convention and doesn't allow anyone else to do it either, and considering the anger such topics raise I can very well understand that. I get not liking the public relations aspect (or "formal babble" :D) of running a small event. It's a distraction from the enjoyment of the event itself. But sometimes it is unavoidable. If you have customers, then at some point you'll be dealing with a customer complaint. Regarding "politics"...He said... "I don't vote, never have (except once in 1984 when in the USMC, and our captain passed a yellow card to everyone, advised everyone to mark Republican...

  • 08:49 AM - pemerton quoted Lwaxy in post Harassment At PaizoCon 2017
Now none of us know if this was the first time he showed real predatory tendencies. If it was, it is possible he is still in denial about the seriousness of this, as we all tend to find excuses or mitigating factors for our own behaviors. Especially for something so serious. If it wasn't, he might struggle with the fact that he's become a serial drunk and predator. This post seemed to suggest that this incident did not come out of nowhere: In discussing Bill Webb's behavior in this thread I have seen a few people willing to offer him the "but he was drunk and people do :):):):) sometimes when they're drunk..." excuse. This excuse doesn't fly for reasons others have already elaborated upon but I will tell you SPECIFICALLY why it cannot be used to soften the criticism against Bill in particular. Bill is not an occasional drunk. He is a routine, PROUD heavy-drinker. Inviting him, oo in the case of PaizoCon merely allowing him, to participate in your convention means not that he "might" be dr...

  • 07:26 PM - Caliban quoted Lwaxy in post Harassment At PaizoCon 2017
I can fully understand why people, female or male, want to resolve things without all the publicity. Just looking at this thread makes me feel dizzy, and I'm not even involved in any of it. The victim (and I hate the word here because to me she de-victimized herself by not letting it go unnoticed) has asked to let the matter rest, yet people will be going on and on about it anyway. I don't really like throwing the word "victim" around either. In American culture the term has connotations of weakness. In my mind she was the target of harassment, but she never allowed herself to be a victim.

Most people haven't even converted to 5e yet, and it has only been a few years. We definitely do not need a new edition, not for another 10 years if ever. As it seems most people think 5th edition is the worst one ever made by far, perhaps a better edition would actually be a good thing and pull Shadowrun out of the hole they dug with 5th.
