About evildmguy
Introduction:
I prefer story more than combat but strive to have a balance of the two. I like to create a fun environment where I can entertain some people for a few hours each week.
About Me:
I'm usually the DM and have been lucky to find players open to other games. In the past two years (2010-2012), we tried Vampire the Requiem, Exalted, 4E DND, Pathfinder, Castles and Crusades, Dresden RPG, Star Wars Saga, d20 CoC, and Alternity. We all liked Alternity so much that I am running a more supernatural style Dark*Matter game.

Basically, I love running games and making it fun for others.

Game Details:
My group tends toward more role playing but combat is there. We are trying out a lot of different things and seeing what works for us. We are just as likely to speak in character as out to make sure that what is happening is understood.

Currently, we are playing a supernatural version of Dark*Matter using Alternity. But have tried many different games over the years.

I'm torn on the luxury items. Over the years, I have gotten minis and metal coins but not something so big all at once. My concern with most luxury things is how specific they are. I mean, yes, a 3D ship is cool but I can count on one hand the number of times I have used a ship. Sure, I might use it more if I had it but not sure it would be enough for me to justify it. Or the Waterdeep Dragon Heist set. A lot of it is reusable but not all of it. I don't know. That's probably just me. Thanks for the discussion! Very interesting! That's why I haven't spend a lot of my money on this stuff, but I intend to get the pirate ship. I think a model like that works best when you are running a nautical campaign where the party will have their own vessel. Also, it is abstracted enough that it is easy to put into a number of different games as different ships. I personally can see getting a lot of use out of this item. For Beadle and Grimm, the set enhances a campaign the will run for ...

I'm also surprised at the growth of the starter sets? I mean, there is a limit to how many of those are needed, right? But, good for them! And, yes, DND is not everything in the hobby. However, I thought I read on here that if it's doing well, generally, it's good for the hobby as a whole? The White Wolf thing seems to be them doing it to themselves, though, not an external force. A lot of it is reusable but not all of it. I don't know. That's probably just me. It's absolutely, positively NOT just you. One or two use items seem....wasteful. Cool, sure--I imagine they're nifty--but once you've dragged that ship out for the 36th time, I'd think the players would start to ask for a different staging area for their minis or whatever.

It also had an early version of the skill challenge. It also had that so many successed were needed before so many failures. However, that level of success system meant that you can get more successes than one on a roll. So, again, a highly skilled or talented person could do a task a bit faster than the average. That sounds like a pretty good way to handle it. I have a similar setup in my 4e hack.
