She was always able to assume the form of Zandilar, she never stop being Zandilar as well, as worshipped by the Elves. It could be argued the MTOFs really only touched on Zandilar's pre Shares past, not her present, and even the Sharess form really only applies to FR, on other worlds Zandilar and Bast and Felidae are seperate Gods.

I guess they could make Dabus celestials if they wanted, they wouldn't be the first non good celestials in 5e. Or even cooler they could make Dabus playable for 5e. And I agree that giving us Asuras balances out the celestials more, because almost every single Celestial is lawful, only one or two are Chaotic Good. Coualts, Solars, Planetars, Devas, Evil Empyreans, Ki-rins, Death Pact...

None of the above, my favourite is Sharess, she has a fun and really cool back story, Cat War God, turned nomadic adventurer, turned party girl, turned dark Goddess, turned party girl again. She's absorded at least two other Goddess, she normally CG, but she's also got titles like Succubi of Sensation that suggest a bad girl side. She is know to turn into a giant Domestic Hunter to hunt...

Asuras are very Angel like from previous editions D&D , they have are basically humaniod shaped, with bird like feet, burning wings, and shape shifting powers. Others might suggest Eladarin, but they are more Fey like then typical angel like.

Perhaps less used and fresher would have been more neutral to say. The Heartlands, the North, and the Sword Coast is often the focus most of the time, leaving the rest largely die on the vine.

I will stop there out of respect for Morris not wanting the Forum to be too political. I'll let you guys discuss the panels I have nothing to add.

I greatly disagree, I don't want the sword coast, but I want it on FR, preferable in an exciting region like the Old Empires region, the Lands of Intrigue, the Unapproachable East, Kara Tur, Maztica, Zakhara.

How could I forget the Lamassu. Anyways, I hope they do something interesting with the Asura, like focusing on their conflict/competition with the Devas as both servants of the Gods. Now that Devas are mostly lawful Good, I like the idea of the conflict between Asuras and Devas being more about Chaos/Law then Good vs Evil like it is in Pathfinder, I think it adds the kind of naunce that...

6e is a lot more then a few years away. It's still growing at huge rate and it will most likely continue to do so for at least two years, it would be even more years before sales dropped enough to warrant 6e. And honestly if there is a hit D&D movie in the next few years, it will cause D&D to explode further boasting the market, and adding possibly another decade to 5e's life span.

In Ravnica proper, murder is legal, except for Wojeks which is illegal. But kill a guild member and that could violate guild trade laws. This is not true for the whole plan, where guild influence varies. It was because the Orzhov and Rakdos demanded it.

Should Asuras be a type of Angel or a separate race of Celestial? I think as Chaotic celestials Asuras, Vaylkaries, and Bacchae would be important Celestials because they counter balance the predomince of Lawful Celestials. Right now Pegasi are the only celestial to be Chaotic I believe.

I almost forgotten Mearls addressed why there is no Planeswalker class in GGR, it's because there are no other official MtG D&D settings, so there is no where to Planeswalk to, so if they do a Planeswalker class it will be in the next MtG setting they do, because then they will have somewhere to go.

Lots of different interesting stuff. The reason why the Trident ended up like it did is that it was mostly an after thought, they put it in because various monsters used it. And they thought of making it do straight up 1d8 damage, but felt that would make it the best thrown weapon in the game, so they decided that the least disruptive way to deal with how the elements of the Trident...

I disagree with the very premise of this thread, not selling as well as some 5e books is not the same as not selling well period, I think it's absurd to think they expect every book to sell better as much as the last. They are selling very well, just not as well as, some other 5e books.

You could take the ritual casting cleric feat as an alternative to bring a Cleric, it's got good divinations spells plus a few other utility spells, but doesn't require you worship a God by AL rules. That way you can get 20 levels of Rogue, but still kind of multiclass without actually having to take levels in another class.

After that the SCAG subclasses, the most popular subclasses in the XGTE, and Aasimar and Tabaxi from VGTM. And I'd set it outside the Sword Coast which is hugely over used. I'd change Ships surgeon to ships healer, it just makes more sense in settings with magic. Why would I perform surgery when one can cast cure wounds. I'd also add in the post of ships mage. Also if ones ship is large or huge one can cast animate object and I think the rules should consider what happens when it does that.

Who says that Carcari functioning as a prison plane is natural? Perhaps it was like other lower planes once, filled with evil neutral choatic petitioners, until the Gods decided to dump the evil titans there, and turned it into a prison. Also note the domains of the Gods of the plane are likely not as unpleasant as the rest of the plane, islands of dark paradise in a prison of torment.

  • 05:02 PM - Ralif Redhammer mentioned gyor in post 4.33 Years in: What Now for 5E? (and have we reached "Peak Edition?")
Yeah, Pathfinder 2e is a very different beast, and from what I’ve seen, already dividing the Pathfinder fanbase. Which, really, was unavoidable – their whole design was based on staying the same and just giving people more of that thing they liked. Unfortunately, that pretty much baked bloat in as unavoidable. But, back to D&D. As gyor said, social media presents an unparalleled avenue of D&D experience and advertisement. The Stream of Many Eyes was an experience never seen before, and I’m super-excited for the eventual next one. There are so many ways to experience D&D, not just as a game, but as a culture. Pathfinder 2e, unfortunately, has a major identity crisis. It’s wavering between wanting to make itself approachable to new players, and wanting to retain an existing fan base that revels in complexity, and it shows. I do think it’s going to push WotC to up their game, but I don’t think it’s going to drive anything close to an edition change.

Like gyor said you can find the episodes on YouTube a few days after they air but with Twitch specifically it’s a little more complicated. The show itself (live & past broadcasts) are found on the official DnD Twitch channel. The after show Talk Pact is found on the SavingThrowShow Twitch Channel-which is the one it sounds like you found. Just head over to the DnD channel and look under Past Broadcasts and you should find it. Hope that helps.

Just a bit of context to gyor's point about the settings and the survey that WotC did. The survey in question was asking what settings would people like updated. It wasn't really asking if people played in one setting or another. The survey was, to some degree, kinda self selecting. If you didn't play in any of those settings, it's unlikely you would answer.

Just after the 1:04 mark in the latest Dragon Talk: Morbeck: "The second one is going to be a female Cleric, for reasons that become obvious once you see the area which it [a new Endless Quest book being worked on] is set in, which I probably shouldn't talk about quite yet" Greg Tito: "Nah, that's right, exactly; *I* know what you are talking about, though." gyor obviously not much to go on, but I know the topic of Forgotten Realms religion is your jam: any thoughts on what area might make "a female Cleric" an obvious choice just by the location itself?

  • 06:18 PM - Satyrn mentioned gyor in post 5e needs a Faiths and Avatars style book
This is where polytheism is being confused with Christianity. There is no "uniform" for a priest of Corellon, holy days depend on locality, there are no standardised rituals, and very little in the way of hierarchy. Each temple would have an autonomous high priest, and he/she would have a few acolytes. Appropriate offerings are "anything the god likes" so in the case of Corellon, singing, mostly (and all temples need cash for maintenance). Well, if your right that this is the way Correllon's priesthood works, that seems like the perfect sort content for such a book would provide: "There are no standardised rituals to celebrate Correlon, etc. . . here's a couple examples of how Correlon is worshipped in the Dales, and here's how Corellon is worshipped (and has his name spelled) . . . " So, yeah. I think you're making the case for this book. It's just a shame for gyor that we're not in the TSR era because then there would be a spot in the schedule for it. Because the only reason we won't see this book is the very simple "it doesn't fit in WotC's publishing strategy."

Kobold Avenger - Mearls has mentioned making a Warlock with an Elder Brain patron gyor - I'm not sure I'd like to see a Paladin oath that deals with psionics. I mean the other oaths are thematic: Vengeance, Devotion, Crown, Conquest, Redemption... I suppose the Oath of the Ancients is semi-similar in concept to what a Psi-oath would be like. I'd think the oath would have to be something like "Awakening" because you're awakening your own potential. As a DM I'd force any Paladins of this to probably be part of a religious order associated with Psionic deities.

...tion of the game. Killing is a default assumption of D&D. We can have conversations about whether that is a good thing, that is a bad thing, what that says about society, and so on, but it is a default assumption. You don't need have a giant conversation during Session 0 where you explain to the players that they might, in fact, end up killing dragons, orcs, and other things during the course of the game. It is assumed. Sexual assault? Rape? No. That is never part of my assumed "D&D," and, to be totally honest, I am aware of more than enough bad DM stories that feature this (not to mention the aforementioned F.A.T.A.L., among other low makrs in T.T.R.P.G. history) that this should rightfully set off alarm bells. Is it possible to do well? Probably not. I have my doubts, since I wouldn't play that game, but maybe for others. Is it something that most certainly needs to be fully vetted with the table (not assumed) and completely cleared? Oh, yeah, definitely. Anyway, getting back to @gyor I think that what sometimes happens is sometimes, people have an idea. And it could be a cool, awesome idea! And then they share it, and other people shoot it down, not seeing the cool idea for what it is. And there can be a natural defensiveness about it. To give you an example which is somewhat close to this- I absolutely love the whole Covenant "The Land" series (even the most recent ones), and I have shamelessly borrowed portions of the books, here and there, for my D&D campaigns. Thing is, there is this part, in the very beginning of the very first book, that isn't great. I mean- the 70s were a heckuva time, and all that, but the particular use in that book to illustrate certain points just doesn't age well. IOW, it sucks knowing that an entire series starts with the main character raping another character. Makes it a difficult recommendation. So, moving back to your original character concept- what I would say is that if the immediate feedback you're getting is that it seems...

  • 05:57 PM - MechaTarrasque mentioned gyor in post Mike Mearls responds: Any chance we’ll see a 5e incarnation of the Warden?
I had another thought on the barbarian. It isn't my favorite idea (I like the hybrid thing a lot more), but I suppose you could have a variant of Path of the Ancestral Guardian, where primal spirits hang around the barbarian, but instead of being defensive like the ancestral guardian, maybe they could attack all the enemies that are just outside of your reach (say from 5-10 feet normally), with the type of damage (and any special effects the attacks produce [special effects would start at level 6]) being a product of the sub-subclass: the tree warden spirits would do bludgeoning damage and entangle the enemies, the wild warden spirits could do slashing or piercing damage and frighten the enemies, etc. So the name might be Path of the Warden, but in effect it is Path of the Horde Breaker (thanks gyor, I wouldn't have thought of this without your last post).

Mike Mearls described the Feywild as a transitional plane between the Prime Material Plane and the Positive Energy Plane (https://www.sageadvice.eu/2017/09/01/shadowfell-and-feywild-explained/), so if each campaign world is in its own Prime Material Plane, then every campaign world has its own Shadowfell and Feywild.* All the campaign worlds seem to be in the same multiverse**, but I don't know if there is anything that says they are all in the same universe (and the whole bit about spheres would suggest that they are in different universes in the same multiverse). * I like gyor's idea that they are interconnected, but even if everything is in the same universe, there is no indication that it is easy (or possible) to get from one campaign world's part of the shadowfell to another's. **The idea that there is more than one version of someone is so closely connotated to multiverse that it might as well be part of the definition. There is no reason to believe that there is one and only version of anything (especially anything that was once mortal) running around the D&D multiverse. There may be a tendency for each universe to have a Raven Queen, but the FR one may be no more the PoL one than goateed evil mirror universe Spock is the regular Mr. Spock.

MTOF, like other 5e books, refer to the current state of things. With Sharess not being mentioned in 5e, but Bast being in the SCAG, and with other deities having been separated again (Horuse and Re, for example), it's very likely that Zandilar is back, and Sharess is Bast again. Not that it detracts from her, as far as I'm concerned.

Still she is not strictly human only, since she absorbed the Elven Goddess Zandilar, so perhaps that is why she is not on your list. She's back to Bast, though, since Zandilar's back.

If Dragonlance gets a movie, WotC giving it setting book it's a certainty. The question becomes when. The movie is coming in 2021, and I am unaware of any serious suggestion that it will be Dragonlance linked. Though I think Dragonlance will come, maybe sooner rather than later, because it is distinct and popular.

Rokugan, Diablo, Warcraft aren't owned by WotC so even 1000 to 1 odds is good, it's a complete 100% certainty it won't be those. Malatra is apart of Kara Tur, so if it's Kara Tur Malatra will likely be covered. I think you've rated Ravenloft too high. For settings, never say never because of books like this. But Mearls would be committed if he tries to claim that is what he meant by a D&D setting. The case for ranking Ravenloft high is also based on the fact that CoS is still their most played adventure, and the D&D team still seems deeply conservative about splitting up their fanbase. Ravenloft is far more adaptable for single adventures and probably the least likely to overlap with their central FR setting. For the record I also think it would be a terrible choice, as one good adventure doesn't really indicate sales viability. Releasing another part of Faerun as a 'new setting' is pretty weak soup as well but I only give it a possibility due to this excessively cons...

I'd make it 3D3 for balance sake. Just make the Trident a simple weapon and its balanced again. I really don't care much about balance in this instance. We're talking about plus-or-minus 1 or 2 points of average damage per hit, which isn't completely trivial at 1st level, but becomes altogether meh by the time you hit level 5.

I will stop there out of respect for Morris not wanting the Forum to be too political. I'll let you guys discuss the panels I have nothing to add. My name is Morrus, not "Morris". • 07:18 AM - ClaytonCross quoted gyor in post Beast Master Ranger List of Animal Companions
Multattack doesn't work the way you want as per the word of the sage, Jeremy Crawford. Well the new official Errata trumps Jeremy Crawford... so what he said in the past is obsolete due to what he approved as official. Bestial Fury (p. 93). This section has been changed to “Starting at 11th level, when you command your beast companion to take the Attack action, the beast can make two attacks, or it can take the Multiattack action if it has that action.” But also its crazy to me that challenge rating of 1/4 is the limit for Rangers when Mechanical Servant for Artificers is "Select a Large beast with a challenge rating of 2 or less" which you use for the stats so they get Polar Bear MM p334 as an option that. AC12 HP42(5d10+15) Speed 40ft swim 30ft Perception +3 (13 passive) 60ft dark vision - only feature from Cave bear variant Keen smell (advantage on perception checks with smell) Multiattack. Perhaps less used and fresher would have been more neutral to say. The Heartlands, the North, and the Sword Coast is often the focus most of the time, leaving the rest largely die on the vine. Perhaps. In all fairness, maybe I'm being a little too harsh on FR. Most of the setting just leaves a bad taste in my mouth, but there are parts of it that I think are maybe okay (but certainly don't enthuse me).
  • 05:26 AM - MechaPilot quoted gyor in post What would you want to see in a 5e CRPG set in FR?
I greatly disagree, I don't want the sword coast, but I want it on FR, preferable in an exciting region like the Old Empires region, the Lands of Intrigue, the Unapproachable East, Kara Tur, Maztica, Zakhara. I find the use of "exciting region" as a descriptor of parts of FR to be quite hyperbolic. But, to each their own.

Lots of different interesting stuff. The reason why the Trident ended up like it did is that it was mostly an after thought, they put it in because various monsters used it. And they thought of making it do straight up 1d8 damage, but felt that would make it the best thrown weapon in the game, so they decided that the least disruptive way to deal with how the elements of the Trident interact was to just leave it like the spear. Also the way Ranger Alternate class features and subclasses interact was interesting. Like if you take the animal companion subclass and feature you get pick a higher CR animal, if instead go Gloom Stalker and Beast Companion Alternate feature, which causes issues with the Gloomstalkers bonus spells know which normally would be useless if you traded your spells for a companion was to allow you to cast each of the bonus spells known once per long rest without slots. I really liked it. And of course the Great Weapon fighter seems to be progressing w...

What do you guess think, could I be right? Why would they reprint a bunch of random, generic maps if they were going to do More Tales from the Yawning Portal, and then release it three months before the adventure? Wouldn't they release it at the same time, like the map pack for Dungeon of the Mad Mage? Wouldn't it include new maps redone for classic 1e and 2e locations? Yeah... I think this might just be exactly what it seems to be: a cheap and easily produced but pretty handy product designed for quick extra cash between major releases.
