Speculation: the Other subraces will be Maenad (Nymphs of Bacchus) and Nymphs of the Underworld (to cover the grimdark side of things, plus connects to a major Titaness of the setting). Smaller chance of Wind Nymphs, Fire Nymphs, Flower Nymphs, Bee Nymphs, Muses, Seasonal Nymphs, Charities/Graces. Since Sirens are going to be birdlike singing women because in 5e Harpies have that job, ...

I was reading through the comments section of the kickstarter when I discovered to my surprise that the devs had answered a question I had posed, will Nymphs have subraces. The answer is yes. They said there will be a hanful of Nymph subraces (not sure how many is a handful, I assume five because 5 fingers). They also said the examples I gave (Neriads, Oreads, Dryads) are included. This would...

In this setting people leave on planets and moons within the Dyson Sphere. It's not a Hollow Earth setting, a Dyson Sphere is the size of a solar system in this case with hundreds of inhabited planets and moons inside.

The civilizations exist within the Dyon Sphere, and originally the internal surface where the Greys, Nordics, and Reptilians dwelled to study the test subjects was disguised as a night sky. This allows you to add say worlds as you want to the setting. I've started off with one. Themes are magical experimentation, occult alien abductions, and alternate history.

Themes are arcane dyson sphere, magical experimentation, occult alien abductions, and alternate possible histories. Races are all D&D races plus alien conspiracy races of Greys, Nordics, and Reptilians (maybe others later). The idea is an alliance of multiverse traveling alien races, with extremely advanced technology discovers for first time that in some universes magic exists big time....

Change warlord to Commander, it's a better name and a more accurate discription of the actual class which often isn't being played as someone who is an actual warlord. Tiefling and Aasimar are so public at this point they are safe, even Pathfinder uses them.

64% think it needs only minor changes or no changes, given how soon Eberron's hardcover is coming out, I think they will tweek it, but publish it, 65-70% reasonably happy with it is usually good enough fir WitC, more so given the importance of the class and the deadline.

Kara Tur would be effected by the Spellplague and Sundering and other events as well. And there have been a few plots effecting it like the Tuigan invasion. Still one of the things that makes Kara Tur more then generic Fantasy Asia is the presence of Spelljammers and interactions with Faerun and Zakhara. Tu Lung as major diplomatic ties to Mulhorand at one point for example. Wu might...

IMO Chronicles of Darkness 2e is a huge improvement over 1e, and the lore is a lot deeper and better put together.

I look forward to learning more about whatever adventures are going to be apart of Season 9. Still Saltmarsh and the Dreams of Red Wizards appears to be unseasonal, so it's a good adventure for parties from a mix of seasons.

Some people still want a Paladin like Arcane half casters. Of course multiclassing Wizard/Sorcerer/Bard will basically get you that.

I disagree with you on Specialist Priests. If you just look at the name, then yeah, but if you looked at what they can do and how they are designed, Cleric Domains don't fill the gap. But I don't see 5e getting Speciality Priests. The closest one gets to Speciality Priests is the Divine Soul which is like a cross between Favoured Souls, Mystics, and Speciality Priests.

...mances from Penny Arcade, and the One Shot and Campaigns podcasts on the One Shot Network. Taken in the aggregate, all of these shows have something in common: They’re all pretty white. While women are well represented in the most popular actual play experiences, people of color are not. In fact, the team behind the Critical Role Kickstarter may be the least racially diverse group of the bunch. “Nobody is ‘turning’ on critical role,” writes a TTRPG podcaster. “If you think that pointing out that things could and should have diversity especially with the ability the cast has to promote it is ‘turning’ on them then i really don’t know what to tell you. ppl have been pointing it out for years.” By and large, the tenor of the conversation is that the folks behind Critical Role are good people. They’ve done incredible work to carve out a niche for themselves, and in so doing they’ve helped legitimize the hobby of role-playing. But they could, and should, also do better. So, gyor, if your models for diversity are Japanese or Indian cinema, well, I really don't know what to say. No one is "getting out the pitchforks". It's a comment that yes, as a public entertainment, some of us at least think that diversity is important. Is CR doing well? Absolutely. Does that mean that they get an automatic free pass just because we like them? Nope.

  • 03:16 AM - Nevvur mentioned gyor in post How would you RP an evil druid?
Bitbrain - Thanks for guiding us to that article! I'll second your recommendation. gyor - Love the hell druid concept. Awhile back I was examining unlikely class/race combos, and the tiefling druid presented immediately. This would be a plausible background for him. As for the OP... Motive and methods are both important considerations. I made a mid-level NPC druid oriented toward swarms and disease as the Big Bad for a low-level one shot. They were the most effective tools for addressing an aggressive push to colonize a land he held in stewardship. It made him an extremist in his own circle, but he escaped punishment and went about distributing plagues til the PCs caught up with him. Do you ask because you're looking to implement something in a game, or is this more just picking the forum's brain?

  • 05:02 PM - Ralif Redhammer mentioned gyor in post 4.33 Years in: What Now for 5E? (and have we reached "Peak Edition?")
Yeah, Pathfinder 2e is a very different beast, and from what I’ve seen, already dividing the Pathfinder fanbase. Which, really, was unavoidable – their whole design was based on staying the same and just giving people more of that thing they liked. Unfortunately, that pretty much baked bloat in as unavoidable. But, back to D&D. As gyor said, social media presents an unparalleled avenue of D&D experience and advertisement. The Stream of Many Eyes was an experience never seen before, and I’m super-excited for the eventual next one. There are so many ways to experience D&D, not just as a game, but as a culture. Pathfinder 2e, unfortunately, has a major identity crisis. It’s wavering between wanting to make itself approachable to new players, and wanting to retain an existing fan base that revels in complexity, and it shows. I do think it’s going to push WotC to up their game, but I don’t think it’s going to drive anything close to an edition change.

Like gyor said you can find the episodes on YouTube a few days after they air but with Twitch specifically it’s a little more complicated. The show itself (live & past broadcasts) are found on the official DnD Twitch channel. The after show Talk Pact is found on the SavingThrowShow Twitch Channel-which is the one it sounds like you found. Just head over to the DnD channel and look under Past Broadcasts and you should find it. Hope that helps.

Just a bit of context to gyor's point about the settings and the survey that WotC did. The survey in question was asking what settings would people like updated. It wasn't really asking if people played in one setting or another. The survey was, to some degree, kinda self selecting. If you didn't play in any of those settings, it's unlikely you would answer.

  • 06:18 PM - Satyrn mentioned gyor in post 5e needs a Faiths and Avatars style book
This is where polytheism is being confused with Christianity. There is no "uniform" for a priest of Corellon, holy days depend on locality, there are no standardised rituals, and very little in the way of hierarchy. Each temple would have an autonomous high priest, and he/she would have a few acolytes. Appropriate offerings are "anything the god likes" so in the case of Corellon, singing, mostly (and all temples need cash for maintenance). Well, if your right that this is the way Correllon's priesthood works, that seems like the perfect sort content for such a book would provide: "There are no standardised rituals to celebrate Correlon, etc. . . here's a couple examples of how Correlon is worshipped in the Dales, and here's how Corellon is worshipped (and has his name spelled) . . . " So, yeah. I think you're making the case for this book. It's just a shame for gyor that we're not in the TSR era because then there would be a spot in the schedule for it. Because the only reason we won't see this book is the very simple "it doesn't fit in WotC's publishing strategy."

Kobold Avenger - Mearls has mentioned making a Warlock with an Elder Brain patron gyor - I'm not sure I'd like to see a Paladin oath that deals with psionics. I mean the other oaths are thematic: Vengeance, Devotion, Crown, Conquest, Redemption... I suppose the Oath of the Ancients is semi-similar in concept to what a Psi-oath would be like. I'd think the oath would have to be something like "Awakening" because you're awakening your own potential. As a DM I'd force any Paladins of this to probably be part of a religious order associated with Psionic deities.

...tion of the game. Killing is a default assumption of D&D. We can have conversations about whether that is a good thing, that is a bad thing, what that says about society, and so on, but it is a default assumption. You don't need have a giant conversation during Session 0 where you explain to the players that they might, in fact, end up killing dragons, orcs, and other things during the course of the game. It is assumed. Sexual assault? Rape? No. That is never part of my assumed "D&D," and, to be totally honest, I am aware of more than enough bad DM stories that feature this (not to mention the aforementioned F.A.T.A.L., among other low makrs in T.T.R.P.G. history) that this should rightfully set off alarm bells. Is it possible to do well? Probably not. I have my doubts, since I wouldn't play that game, but maybe for others. Is it something that most certainly needs to be fully vetted with the table (not assumed) and completely cleared? Oh, yeah, definitely. Anyway, getting back to @gyor I think that what sometimes happens is sometimes, people have an idea. And it could be a cool, awesome idea! And then they share it, and other people shoot it down, not seeing the cool idea for what it is. And there can be a natural defensiveness about it. To give you an example which is somewhat close to this- I absolutely love the whole Covenant "The Land" series (even the most recent ones), and I have shamelessly borrowed portions of the books, here and there, for my D&D campaigns. Thing is, there is this part, in the very beginning of the very first book, that isn't great. I mean- the 70s were a heckuva time, and all that, but the particular use in that book to illustrate certain points just doesn't age well. IOW, it sucks knowing that an entire series starts with the main character raping another character. Makes it a difficult recommendation. So, moving back to your original character concept- what I would say is that if the immediate feedback you're getting is that it seems...

In this setting people leave on planets and moons within the Dyson Sphere. It's not a Hollow Earth setting, a Dyson Sphere is the size of a solar system in this case with hundreds of inhabited planets and moons inside. Sounds like a Crystal sphere. Dyson spheres are usually a lit smaller than a solar system normally 1AU. Even one that size is huge in area. You could fit the Star Wars Galactic Empire and WH40k Empire of man in it and use less than 1% of the surface.
  • 09:22 PM - Tony Vargas quoted gyor in post [4e] OSR Clone
Change warlord to Commander, it's a better name and a more accurate discription of the actual class which often isn't being played as someone who is an actual warlord. . Paladins are rarely being played as knights of Charlemagne, nor or Sorcerers as gaining their powers from spirits, nor Clerics as issueing fatwas. Commander is much narrower, and more strongly implies just barking orders (one of the more controversial visualizations), rather than inspiration, leading by example, executing cooperative maneuvers or giving tactical advice.
  • 09:05 PM - Umbran quoted gyor in post Setting Idea: Arcane Dyson Sphere
The idea is an alliance of multiverse traveling alien races, with extremely advanced technology discovers for first time that in some universes magic exists big time. So they build a magical Dyson Sphere around a young sleeping Sun Titan to study magic isolated from the rest of the multiverse. Its basically a giant magical lab. Wait a minute. They have magic enough to build a "magical Dyson sphere"... a magical structure that engulfs an entire star, but need to study magic? This idea hangs together much better if the Sphere itself is not magical at all. Tech aliens may need to study magic. Magic aliens, not so much. Also, if you haven't, go read Larry Niven's novel Ringworld. It doesn't bother with an entire sphere, but uses a ring, which is plenty big enough. The point of a Dyson sphere is to catch all the radiation output of a star for your civilization to use. If you're not doing that, the entire sphere simply isn't necessary.

You can't use Dragonborn, Warlords, Tieflings etc as they are not covered. Warlord should not be a problem in my opinion. Many OGL products have classes that have similar or the same name as D&D. WotC can copyright the Warlord as a specific thing, but the actual Word Warlord should be able to be used in an OGL product. Obviously, just as with the other classes (and this would apply to ANY class) it cannot be a copy and paste job and must be original and in accordance with the OGL. As Warlord as a description of a military leader has been in use for over a millennia, I do not see a difficulty in using it in the same context as it's dictionary definition for a class that operates as a leader. It should be fine using it as a class name in relation to the dictionary meaning which WotC cannot copyright (unless they take a LOT more than simply one small group to court). If people still feel it is problematic we could change it's term to Military officer or Regal, Noble, or somet...

I did some research and this is what I found for Setting neutral desert adventures: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Day_of_Al'Akbar Day of Al'Akbar. It's a little more Arabian flavoured then Egyptian/Mesopotamian flavoured however. https://index.rpg.net/display-entry.phtml?articleid=30671 The Book with No End. This one actually fits well with Desert of Desolation, you are on a Quest for a magic book called the Book with No End that is so powerful it's turned a lush Jungle into a Desert, that would fit as an Imaskari artifact very well. Lastly Old Empires 2e source book has a bunch of small adventures in it. Plus add in Desert Rules, details about the Old Empires Region and it's culture, Magic, Gods, and History, and current State and you have a very full book at that point, especially if it has one player options/backgrounds and so forth. Desert of Desolation is over 100 pages by itself, once you figure in quality of life improvements, add 5-10 pages, then add in a ...

I assume they are finishing up BG: DIA, The Starter Kits, AI, and the Eberron Hardcover. But they keep hiring new people so I'm hoping that 2020 is a lot better, more ambitious. We know they are hiring outside cultural experts because they are exploring regions outside usual European inspired areas. That could be Kara Tur, Katashaka, Zakhara, Osse, Calisham, Old Empires region, ect... My bet for next Spring is something along the lines of Ghosts of Saltmarsh, but with Desert of Desolation: wilderness rules and generation tables for desert life, maybe an Egyptian themed starting town set in the Old Empires region with suggestions for other worlds. Dunno if any other old adventures would fit in, but seems a good candidate for this sort of treatment.

  • 04:00 PM - Aldarc quoted gyor in post The Final Announcement from The Descent Live Stream: Eberron Hardcover
How do you know what was forced into Eberron by WotC? Just curious.Sure. Now the word "forced" is admittedly a bit of a strong word, which is why I put it in quotes. It is more accurate to say that WotC had a "shaping hand" on how Eberron developed. Keith Baker has made various statements online (e.g., his blog, Twitter, etc.) about how Eberron changed from his initial drafts to the final product under the guidance of Bill Slavicsek and with James Wyatt. This fairly recent blog post interviewing Bill Slavicsek delves into a little bit of how Eberron developed. It's worth noting that the intent of Eberron from the beginning - and what made Eberron attractive as a choice for Slavicsek - was how Eberron did not attempt to invalidate D&D content.

The battlesmith would fit in Zakhara, Lantan, and a few other places. The Artellerist would fit into Imaskar, the Archivist in Mulhorand. That's not quite the same - you are talking about fitting withing "regions" vs fittings into a setting. • 08:15 PM - Jester David quoted gyor in post The New Dungeons & Dragons Storyline for 2019 Leaked Ahead of Live Stream
Planescape doesn't need a special adventure because it's one of the two metasetting, you can for example just use Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus, but substitute Sigil for BG. Stewart did said they wanted to use Curse of Strahd as the template for future settings, with an adventure as part of the setting. The fewer racial and class and monster options that are added, the longer the adventure will be. An adventure will almost certainly be the centerpiece of the book. And we don't need 60 pages on the factions, this isn't Ravnica, the factions are important in Sigil, but setting wise not that important. 2 pages per faction should be enough. The catch is, they don't need to do a book on Sigil. That book already exists. If doing Planescape, they need to add something beyond just the fluff. As fluff is edition neutral. Mechanical faction details and rules for reputation in that city are something that isn't featured in a 2e book. They don't seem interested in doing the gi...
