The only one I remember is the wand of frowns/smiles. The Items were one of the disappointing sections as most items were useless. Still better then over a dozen pages of names.

I didn't think of that. It's an even worse spell then I thought. A spell that creates a demiplane should be one of the coolest spells, not the lamest. Magnificent Mansion is 10 times the better spell, it's one weakness is you can't make it permanent (maybe with a Wish Spell).

At the very least it needs to have the classes, otherwise it will have to build classes from Scratch. Of course it could just greatly refluff races abd classes so it fits into the setting better. Like maybe Clerics gain power from AI systems or trensended beings and Elves are just another strange mutant. I think Tieflings are weird enough to fit the settling, just make their origin more...

2e was the Setting Golden age, the mechanics might not be the best, but 2e was by far the richest in terms of setting lore. 4e was was mostly good for Nentir Vale Setting, 3rd Eberron, but 2e had a host of rich setting material. 5e sort of has Ravnica (or a part of it). It's got some good stuff, but in many ways 5e is even weaker on setting then 4e aside from fixing some mistakes that...

...mances from Penny Arcade, and the One Shot and Campaigns podcasts on the One Shot Network. Taken in the aggregate, all of these shows have something in common: They’re all pretty white. While women are well represented in the most popular actual play experiences, people of color are not. In fact, the team behind the Critical Role Kickstarter may be the least racially diverse group of the bunch. “Nobody is ‘turning’ on critical role,” writes a TTRPG podcaster. “If you think that pointing out that things could and should have diversity especially with the ability the cast has to promote it is ‘turning’ on them then i really don’t know what to tell you. ppl have been pointing it out for years.” By and large, the tenor of the conversation is that the folks behind Critical Role are good people. They’ve done incredible work to carve out a niche for themselves, and in so doing they’ve helped legitimize the hobby of role-playing. But they could, and should, also do better. So, gyor, if your models for diversity are Japanese or Indian cinema, well, I really don't know what to say. No one is "getting out the pitchforks". It's a comment that yes, as a public entertainment, some of us at least think that diversity is important. Is CR doing well? Absolutely. Does that mean that they get an automatic free pass just because we like them? Nope.

  • 03:16 AM - Nevvur mentioned gyor in post How would you RP an evil druid?
Bitbrain - Thanks for guiding us to that article! I'll second your recommendation. gyor - Love the hell druid concept. Awhile back I was examining unlikely class/race combos, and the tiefling druid presented immediately. This would be a plausible background for him. As for the OP... Motive and methods are both important considerations. I made a mid-level NPC druid oriented toward swarms and disease as the Big Bad for a low-level one shot. They were the most effective tools for addressing an aggressive push to colonize a land he held in stewardship. It made him an extremist in his own circle, but he escaped punishment and went about distributing plagues til the PCs caught up with him. Do you ask because you're looking to implement something in a game, or is this more just picking the forum's brain?

  • 05:02 PM - Ralif Redhammer mentioned gyor in post 4.33 Years in: What Now for 5E? (and have we reached "Peak Edition?")
Yeah, Pathfinder 2e is a very different beast, and from what I’ve seen, already dividing the Pathfinder fanbase. Which, really, was unavoidable – their whole design was based on staying the same and just giving people more of that thing they liked. Unfortunately, that pretty much baked bloat in as unavoidable. But, back to D&D. As gyor said, social media presents an unparalleled avenue of D&D experience and advertisement. The Stream of Many Eyes was an experience never seen before, and I’m super-excited for the eventual next one. There are so many ways to experience D&D, not just as a game, but as a culture. Pathfinder 2e, unfortunately, has a major identity crisis. It’s wavering between wanting to make itself approachable to new players, and wanting to retain an existing fan base that revels in complexity, and it shows. I do think it’s going to push WotC to up their game, but I don’t think it’s going to drive anything close to an edition change.

Like gyor said you can find the episodes on YouTube a few days after they air but with Twitch specifically it’s a little more complicated. The show itself (live & past broadcasts) are found on the official DnD Twitch channel. The after show Talk Pact is found on the SavingThrowShow Twitch Channel-which is the one it sounds like you found. Just head over to the DnD channel and look under Past Broadcasts and you should find it. Hope that helps.

Just a bit of context to gyor's point about the settings and the survey that WotC did. The survey in question was asking what settings would people like updated. It wasn't really asking if people played in one setting or another. The survey was, to some degree, kinda self selecting. If you didn't play in any of those settings, it's unlikely you would answer.

Just after the 1:04 mark in the latest Dragon Talk: Morbeck: "The second one is going to be a female Cleric, for reasons that become obvious once you see the area which it [a new Endless Quest book being worked on] is set in, which I probably shouldn't talk about quite yet" Greg Tito: "Nah, that's right, exactly; *I* know what you are talking about, though." gyor obviously not much to go on, but I know the topic of Forgotten Realms religion is your jam: any thoughts on what area might make "a female Cleric" an obvious choice just by the location itself?

  • 06:18 PM - Satyrn mentioned gyor in post 5e needs a Faiths and Avatars style book
This is where polytheism is being confused with Christianity. There is no "uniform" for a priest of Corellon, holy days depend on locality, there are no standardised rituals, and very little in the way of hierarchy. Each temple would have an autonomous high priest, and he/she would have a few acolytes. Appropriate offerings are "anything the god likes" so in the case of Corellon, singing, mostly (and all temples need cash for maintenance). Well, if your right that this is the way Correllon's priesthood works, that seems like the perfect sort content for such a book would provide: "There are no standardised rituals to celebrate Correlon, etc. . . here's a couple examples of how Correlon is worshipped in the Dales, and here's how Corellon is worshipped (and has his name spelled) . . . " So, yeah. I think you're making the case for this book. It's just a shame for gyor that we're not in the TSR era because then there would be a spot in the schedule for it. Because the only reason we won't see this book is the very simple "it doesn't fit in WotC's publishing strategy."

Kobold Avenger - Mearls has mentioned making a Warlock with an Elder Brain patron gyor - I'm not sure I'd like to see a Paladin oath that deals with psionics. I mean the other oaths are thematic: Vengeance, Devotion, Crown, Conquest, Redemption... I suppose the Oath of the Ancients is semi-similar in concept to what a Psi-oath would be like. I'd think the oath would have to be something like "Awakening" because you're awakening your own potential. As a DM I'd force any Paladins of this to probably be part of a religious order associated with Psionic deities.

...tion of the game. Killing is a default assumption of D&D. We can have conversations about whether that is a good thing, that is a bad thing, what that says about society, and so on, but it is a default assumption. You don't need have a giant conversation during Session 0 where you explain to the players that they might, in fact, end up killing dragons, orcs, and other things during the course of the game. It is assumed. Sexual assault? Rape? No. That is never part of my assumed "D&D," and, to be totally honest, I am aware of more than enough bad DM stories that feature this (not to mention the aforementioned F.A.T.A.L., among other low makrs in T.T.R.P.G. history) that this should rightfully set off alarm bells. Is it possible to do well? Probably not. I have my doubts, since I wouldn't play that game, but maybe for others. Is it something that most certainly needs to be fully vetted with the table (not assumed) and completely cleared? Oh, yeah, definitely. Anyway, getting back to @gyor I think that what sometimes happens is sometimes, people have an idea. And it could be a cool, awesome idea! And then they share it, and other people shoot it down, not seeing the cool idea for what it is. And there can be a natural defensiveness about it. To give you an example which is somewhat close to this- I absolutely love the whole Covenant "The Land" series (even the most recent ones), and I have shamelessly borrowed portions of the books, here and there, for my D&D campaigns. Thing is, there is this part, in the very beginning of the very first book, that isn't great. I mean- the 70s were a heckuva time, and all that, but the particular use in that book to illustrate certain points just doesn't age well. IOW, it sucks knowing that an entire series starts with the main character raping another character. Makes it a difficult recommendation. So, moving back to your original character concept- what I would say is that if the immediate feedback you're getting is that it seems...

I'm assuming that Numenera will be additive, not subtractive to the D&D 5e core books I wouldn't assume that. There are two separate books, after all: Arcana of the Ancients (the 5E science fantasy sourcebook) and Beneath the Monolith (the Numenera setting conversion). It would make a lot of sense for AotA to be additive but for BtM to be much more selective in order to keep the flavor of the original setting. We know it's making space for Dragons thanks to the picture of a Dragon battling an alien creature. Again, that picture is on the cover of Arcana of the Ancients. We don't know that there will be dragons in Beneath the Monolith. ETA: Oops, just realized Morrus beat me to it; I missed his response in skimming the thread earlier.

We know it's making space for Dragons thanks to the picture of a Dragon battling an alien creature. So how will Numenera have to adapt to 5e both in mechanics and theme? (speculation). I really don't understand this attitude. Not everywhere needs to become the Forgotten Realms. I think one of its great weaknesses is the fact that it's a kitchen-sink, anything goes setting that drowns in the mess of it all. WotC needs to remember that less is more. The PHB, MM and DMG are resources to be mined for assets to add to your game, not an...

No, 4e made that mistake and it was aweful, it had none of the dark creepy flavour of the Binder. Binder and Speciality Priest are my top picks for bringing back a class. Didn't see the 4E Binder. I'm totally in agreement about the specialty priest, though. Wolud love to see that return.

I could see a Vestiges pact for warlocks that allowed the warlock to swap out spells and invocations by making pacts with different vestiges, but at that point you might as well make a new class entirely.

You can't customize it all all beyond the walls being wood and stone. You're a high-level wizard. You have spells like Stone Shape, Fabricate, Continual Flame, Guards and Wards and Programmed Illusion. I struggle to imagine what you could want to add to your demiplane that you cannot create yourself. -Stone Shape allows you to grow the room larger than the 30/30/30 cube if you wish. Nowhere in the demiplane spell does it imply that the dimensions of the walls cannot be changed. -Looping programmed illusions can simulate windows. -Fabricate can make furniture, but also art and other decorative elements. -Continual Flame allows you to light the place however you like (it seems by default it's entirely dark?). Combine with Fabricate to make lavish chandeliers or rustic wall sconces. -Guards and Wards has multiple functions, including dancing lights to supplement your Continual Flames (these are smaller lights, better suited to simulate candles) but the real kicker is the permanent Gu...

I'll point out in 4e there were spells far above merely 9Th level. 4e didn't have spells in the same structure. If you look closely, you'll see that there were no spells over "9th" level in the power structure. They just got stretched over 30 levels and called 15th or 20th or whatever level. For instance, you didn't find Prismatic Spray at 7th level, you found it at 25th. Forcecage wasn't 7th level, it was 27th. If 4e spell levels were really above "9th," you'd have gotten Meteor Swarm at 9th level, which is when 9th level spells happened, or MAYBE at 18th level, which is when you'd have gotten it in other editions. So no, 4e did not have spells over 9th(as the other editions had them) level in power.

Elmister has been beaten by the Nerf stick so hard, I would not bet that Ed would say El is stronger then Mord. Elmister is not the most powerful Archwizard in the realms anymore, I'd argue that exluding Gods Nezram the World Walker is the most powerful Archwizard right now. The most powerful wizard on Faerunthat actually lives on Faerun would be Thoth. Mord has been nerfed pretty hard in too in 5e, just look at his sorry level in CoS. Hallaster however seems to have escaped the nerf hammer

Honestly I'm not a fan of making AI canon in FR, mostly the corporate IC stuff which makes no sense for FR. But the Verdan sound interesting. Having been made canon: been years since that ship sailed.

The weird thing is according to Chris Perkins Aquinions Inc is canon, which means they just added a new major race to the Forgotten Realms and somewhat modern Corporate structures. The sexy eldrich goblin Verdan feel less weird and out of place then corporate structures, I mean what FR nation incorporated them? As far as I can tell, they "incorporated" while still in the Nentir Vale. I don't know who, if anybody, registered them; I'm leaning towards the "Inc." just being added on to sound pretentious. Anyways, in Faerun, their main office is in Waterdeep, while their C-Team's office is in Red Larch in the Dessarin Valley.

They religiously observed contract law and always paid their debts, with full interest. As a nation they had a young, aggressive attitude when it came to foreign relations.[1] Unfortunately the zeal of the nobles turned to intense competition with one another, and they were never truly able to unite under a singular vision of their future.[11] Corruption was rampant in Sembian society, so as long as it did not interfere with the business at h...
