But the paper, maps, documents...that includes things he can help with both with optimizing the space and shorthand writing so that more can be fit on less. He collates in his notes all suggestions, brings others into the process who may be disintrested in paper or discussion (looking at you...

Ordrar keeps swinging, once comitted that is the only way they can survive. It is, after all, either them or the dragon. But his dwarven nature calls to thinking "If we kill it here, how will we know where its hoard is." Move: behind the dragon, between the tail and the hind leg on his side Attack 1 Hopefully hit for 12

I believe we're all set: we're preparing for long rest and our departure in the morning. Setting up camp, preparing for the travel, making "a fort" for the sailors who will repair the ships. The sailors will be ready to sail in case of undead attack. And we can only hope they will be close by when we return :) Does that sums it up? Other things: Can Thieves cant be learned as "normal"...

"It needs killing, but maybe we're not really equipped for such a thing. And imagine what would lore masters think if we can get it somehow into The Academy. Assuming they can keep it contained, they could learn much about the development of such creatures." Leonan thinks aloud. "But I don't think we can afford to waste the time now that we know what we're dealing with. We cannot contain it. So,...

Ordar finishes his approach, going on the side and slightly behind the dragon to establish flanking position with the rest of the attackers around the dragon. His swing thumps solidly into its back knee. What follows is the veritable storm of swings, thumps and pushes from various angles, all working together to pull even four-legged beast out of balance. So, I just read the adventure. While direct assault seems hard to pull off, it also seems quite possible. Infiltration, room by room and not splitting the party and alerting everyone at once...that was (I think) deciding factor. We just couldn't win the war of attrition, too many enemies at once. And we had a player disappear in the middle of the combat. Twice. If this was regular campaign (face-to-face) I'd put PCs in a cell as prisoners and either escape by their own or having township finally raise against the thugs. There are several capable citizens. Anyhow, mips42, good try, thank you for your time. Beating a dead horse now, stopping. I hope we play again at some point. Thank you Axel, tuxgeo for fun characters, we tried, we died. Poor adventurers :)

Castagyr is right next to 10' drop and it is not clear if there is line of sight. And Leonan did some heavy damage earlier. Besides, we have this discussion about continuation of the adventure and we still don't know if mips42 is up for it what with our poor performance. :) And Axel is not calling in.

Hell no! I simply didn't see the update. Last post I got was that mips was hit hard by life and needs some time I'm up for continuing. Weird that I missed both updates, but I never abandon a game. Umm, is that red dwarf quote? tuxgeo, mips42, Axel, Trogdor1992, lets finish this one way or the other :) It would be a shame that after all that trouble we fall against such overwhelming odds without at least trying. Keep the attack for Eddicus, tuxgeo, I'll try to get Castagyr up there without him dying.

Castagyr and Leonan continue their mad dash to block Redbrands before they can get new hostages. While Castagyr runs full tilt toward the passage, Leonan stops a bit behind him and lobs another acid glob at the advancing thugs. He yells at the townmaster. "Move, people, unless you want to taste their steel. Get behind us! Run! Run!! RRUUUNN! Brlo, Eddicus, we need some supression fire!" He observes the acid blob for a moment to see the effect and then kneels to one knee, moving his head under the cover of the cliff-like rise in the hill. Move: moved 6 sqaures on the map, last step in front of the captured thug (right in the passage down) Action: Dash - move 6 squares to current location Move: to current location Action: Acid splash vs first thug and one adjacent: 1D6 = [6] = 6 - both need DEX save DC 13 to avoid the damage mips42, could you indicate how hurt they are (this is third such glob and I rolled 5, 5, 6 on damage rolls). I realise these are thieves, probably proficient in DX saves, but it would help to know how hurt they are.

Castagyr moved right after the priest, tossing one of his javelins as he reached the drop. At the edge of the drop, he crouches, both for better protection from below and as preparation of sliding down. Move: next to Eddicus Standard: Javelin vs most wounded thug; damage: 1D20+3 = [7]+3 = 10 1D6+3 = [3]+3 = 6 - probably a miss...maybe advantage from height? :) Sliding down 10' for damage? Isn't that a bit too harsh? I mean, it is something you can jump in real life (true, I have no experience in armor encumbered jumping) and this isn't so much jump as sliding down. Anyhow, what would be DC for such Athletic feat (Castagyr is proficient in Athletics) tuxgeo, Castagyr is wounded, but mips42 would hopefully know how much (the fight with the thugs and bridge monster is erased in the crash so I cannot find how much he's wounded. I remember him being hit by the monster, not sure about melee fighting.

Castagyr moves after Eddicus, keeping his eye on their back. "Aye, there is some monster that blasts with magic. And it hurts too." mips42, Still no idea about Castagyr spells or hit points. He might have some healing in his back pocket. I will read backwards tomorrow trying to find out what he cast and when. Trogdor1992 is still MIA. Does anyone know if he's hit by a hurricane or something? I remember news that New York had it bad at one point...but admittedly, I don't pay much attention to the news across the world. :(

Thanks mips42, but I'm happy with Brlo for now. At third level I'm thinking of sending him down the beast master archetype. Probably pick a bulldog or something similar for his first companion.

One more clarification please, mips42, sorry for holding up the game :( Is Brlo 17 vs AC a hit? I expect the hobgoblin is dead from cumulative nearly 30 damage? If so, Leonan can move next to Trogdors (maybe even flanking position, I have to check the distance) and attack. If not, use single attack roll (probably a miss) from the combat post.

  • 04:15 PM - tuxgeo mentioned mips42 in post MiPS Lost Mine Part II
OK, Leonan has poured a liquid down Eddicus' throat. If it truly was a healing potion, then that means that I get to narrate Eddicus' revival, and standing from prone, and maybe an action; however, if it was alchemical fire, then that means I get to narrate nothing, but must instead provide another death saving throw. What was in the vial, mips42?

Trogdor1992, you mentioned you don't see the map. May I suggest you use the browser to see it. You don't need to dash since we turned back because Castagyr logged behind. You could attack and still join us. Could you please move Castagyr to where you want him to be? tuxgeo, I moved Eddicus. mips42, I'll wait for Trogdor to move Castagyr so I don't remain up front as sole tank :)

  • 08:48 PM - Neurotic mentioned mips42 in post MiPS Lost Mine Part II
mips42, now it works. I drew the line between Leonan and Hobgoblin. Since it intersects house corner I guess I cannot shoot them either without moving from the path. If that is true I moved Leonan 12 squares (double move) and left X at his original place so you can restore his position if I messed something up. Leonan runs after Brlo and Ediccus. (dash action) "We might need some ranged cover soon! Go! Go! Go!"

  • 07:23 AM - Neurotic mentioned mips42 in post MiPS Lost Mine Part II
"Ok. Ready your missiles, I'll open the door. I doubt there will be anything, though. I'd say we find a valve mechanism for the cistern or the pantry." Trogdor1992, Leonan will open the door. If you have missiles, ready them, unless you want to open the door first. Not really expecting anything (unless he sees something new, mips42), Leonan waits only long enough to check that the fighters are ready to charge and everyone has their weapons changed. He then opens the door in staying behind them as he opens them so he doesn't get into friendly line of fire. Anyhow, he immediately pokes his head in, convinced it is safe. (unless, of course, the party starts flinging missiles inside as soon as he opens the door)

  • 07:15 PM - Neurotic mentioned mips42 in post LMoP [ooc]
My guess would be that it was some kind of communication and Leonan either was only one targeted or failed resistance roll. I would ask for new players, but would leave Vottr and Brlo as retreat guards. We can continue onward, just three of us and if/when new player(s) join they could be prisoners or renegade redbrands. I didn't search for the game since mips said it was from 1e. Now I'm tempted, bad boy tuxgeo :) If Eddicus asked, Leonan gave the description of the cavern, he was just telling most important part first. mips42, how about looking for new players? Trogdor1992, what do you think?

  • 11:20 AM - Neurotic mentioned mips42 in post MiPS Lost Mine Part II
Since there is some footprints in the dust and there is dust on the floor, Leonan concludes that the door leads to some pantry or some other not-often-used space. Returning to the group, fastening the pouch on his belt, he dons the red cloak and leads the party into the secret passage. "Keep couple of steps back, if I encounter a trap, bad luck, but if I encounter a human, I can buy us few seconds. You then roll over them. Eddicus, that bow of yours could be handy if you can shoot between the fighters or over Vottrs head." EDIT: mips42, if there are traps, roll perception for me, Leonan goes carefully forward, but does not test each and every step.

  • 07:00 AM - Neurotic mentioned mips42 in post LMoP [ooc]
mips42, I didn't notice the door next to the water reservoir...is there any way to block them before we proceed? Do tracks on the floor indicate that they open out or in? Is there enough dust around them to say this was not open in some time? Also, what did Leonan see by quick peek inside the pouch he fished out?

  • 05:31 PM - Neurotic mentioned mips42 in post MiPS Lost Mine Part II
Leonan whispers. "The thugs are human, there should be light downthere. And in the cellar, you shouldn't expect long shots anyhow. Its narrow and you could be blocked by our valiant defenders if you don't have ranged weapons ready. I'll go first. Vottr, Brlo, warn me if you see something untoward happening. Eddicus, could you cast light and something and keep it ready to light the way if I trigger something?" OOC: mips42, feel free to re-roll stealth (+5) if you think it is needed.

I like 5e. In lots of ways it is what I wanted 4e to be before we got 4e. As much as I like it, it doesn't (currently) do what I want to do next which is a science fantasy vibe with flying galleons and dirigibles and blaster pistols and such (think Fantasy D&D meets star wars). I don't really have the time to learn a new system so I'd like to adapt 5e to cover this idea and am looking for sources of information / inspiration. Thanks in advance. How much rules coverage do you need? For example, the DMG has stats on airships (p.119), renaissance/modern/futuristic firearms (p.267), and "alien tech" (p.268).

AFAIK the only thing available currently is the firearms rules module in the DMG, but I always had the feeling that a lot of people find those quite unsatisfying (I have never used them myself). I would totally vouch for an official and comprehensive rules module on aerial movement and combat.

...ause Leonan is currently at 9 HP per Neurotic's post #446. That one impending 1st-level casting of Magic Missile would therefore leave Brlo, Eddicus, and Leonan unconscious on the ground at 0 HP and rolling death saves. All Iarno would then need to do is move back where Castagyr cannot see him (and therefore cannot charge him), and drop Castagyr the next round with a 2nd-level casting of Magic Missile. The party's only hope for survival now is to submit to Iarno's rule. They're not going to do that, are they? . . . (I would hope not.) On a related note: If this "Iarno" is per the book, he started with 22 Hit Points. Eddicus has hit him with an arrow for 5 damage, and has another arrow rolled for 8 more damage. That's 13, and not enough to drop Iarno. This turn, Leonan didn't attack Iarno, Castagyr didn't attack Iarno, and Brlo is unconscious . . . "and rolling death saves, Dave." Whatever else happens, it's now Iarno's turn again, and the Redbrands, and Sildar, and the town. mips42 has already called it: "everybody's dead"

I'm going to get a chance to GM in my live game and I have a idea for a disease / infection but there arent really any guidelines for creating them in the DM's guide. Is it a "create what you want" or am I missing something? Do not think there are guidelines, but it seems simple enough to do. Make up an effect, attach a con save or two, and decide how long it lasts if it doesn't get cured.

I knew that Leonan did not need NPC treatment, I just had not seen an action so was waiting. I believe Neurotic is correct only when you use the optional flanking rules. however I'll let Eddicus use the first roll. I didn't realize those are optional, just that it is 5e equivalent. Good call. I asked for map clarification to decide if Leonan is in melee or needs to move to Castagyr.

< snip > . . . Move: right next to Ediccus and Hobgoblin Action: [thunderwave] . . . Your mind screams at you that your companions need you. At first the damaged part of you tells you to just lie there, but then another part of you shouts 'get yer butt up!' Suddeenly you feel a liquid flowing into you and you feel a searing pain as bones begin to shift, torn and sore muscles and tendons begin to stitch themselves together again. OK, color me confused by this: According to Neurotic's post, the action Leonan took during this turn was to cast his final spell, Thunderwave; and as not-an-action, he prayed that the vial contained a healing potion. Did Leonan also get to administer that vial of liquid to Eddicus as a Bonus Action? (I would expect he couldn't perform two full actions in one turn.) Edit: Silly tuxgeo -- Doubts are for Kids! If the DM ruled that a healing potion was administered to your PC, take it! Post a heroic action for your PC quickly, before more editing occurs.

The bugbear that shot a arrow last turn runs up and swings his sword at Eddicus. His sword bites in hard.(11 HP) PC's turn again. . . . Eddicus drops to the ground, severely wounded. From 15 maximum HP, he took hits of 9 and 11 damage (total 20). He's now at 0 HP. Death Saving Throw at the start of Eddicus' turn: [roll0]

You'd be starting at level 2 and coming in in the second scene of the Lost Mine adventure (the town of Phandelver). Leonan spits "...rounded everyone into the tavern. I don't know what's happening, but we should get back to Spider. Do you think it would be safer to go through the tunnel instead of trying to avoid these guys whole way? How many of you are there now anyhow? When I went to Cragmaws, there were only handful humans and now I see several of you here." "

what are you doing with the dead? especially the first fallen...?? It was posted IC that we carried live and dead bodies inside the tavern and searched their pockets. Beyond that, it is undecided what we are doing with them yet. But before Castagyr even bothers worrying about that issue, we had other actions that are waiting on DM replies for: 1. Searching Bodies 2. We entered the Tavern for the first time (is it empty of people? What do we see?) 3. Was there any reaction to dragging the bodies into the tavern? Onlookers or anyone?
