Download and listen to them at home? Gotta be a way to do that for you. One of the podcasts actually has Monte on it being interviewed. For Corrosive
  • 05:27 PM - CAFRedblade mentioned Corrosive in post Sell me on Numenera
The best thing at the moment Corrosive can do is listen to the podcasts on the Ninth World Hub. They give a general discussion on things from the Playtest without giving specifics. As mentioned by Morrus it'll probably be the best until the NDA's are lifted with the release... I can say I really like character creation, and am looking foward to some further playing once I have time. I don't think that'll break anything.. :)
  • 04:49 PM - Morrus mentioned Corrosive in post Sell me on Numenera
In an attempt not to say anything I shouldn't: http://www.numenera.com/game-play/ and http://www.numenera.com/character-creation/ gives a good gameplay summary. I don't want to speak for him, but I think he was asking for peoples' opinions, not links to promotional material. :) @Corrosive , I don't think you're going to get what you're after until after Monte Cook lets the NDA'd people talk about it. I guess a related question, then, is: does anybody know when that will be? It's gone to the printer and will be on sale very soon. Hey, @CharlesRyan , do you have any info on that?

  • 03:22 PM - schnee quoted Corrosive in post Are We Looking At A New RPG Kickstarter Record?
It's not a question of us old timers gatekeeping. We're not doing that. He is. It's the opposite. It's when people like Colville are telling us that we're no longer part of the community. That's gatekeeping. He's a multimillionaire now and he's telling us we're not part of the D&D community. As far as I can make out, because nobody reognized him as he'd left 20 years ago, and he's pissed at us for that. We were supposed to genuflect at his gracious appearance here or something, and we didn't. But well. He won $2,000,000. That makes him right. We're fired from the D&D community. Yeah, that's a little dramatic. Look, he's absolutely right about one thing: his success was due to YouTube. 1000%. He got credibility as a designer with his DM advice series, he got more trust by not having ads, he proved his writing chops to new fans with his books, and he is a fantastic spokesman for the 'old school' gaming philosophy. There are a bunch of other DM types on YouTube. His screen presence blows the r...

It came out a bit wrong, that is all. Am I talking about Matt or posters here? You tell me;) As long as you aren't talking about the eventual KS output, you'll be fine. :D
  • 06:32 PM - Motorskills quoted Corrosive in post Are We Looking At A New RPG Kickstarter Record?
As above. Way overreacting. What do you expect from someone called "Corrosive" ? But I also wanted to point out that he's been building a subscriber base for years and then went on to produce a Kickstarter that people went nuts for as the demand and the name was there. He didn't win anything. Yeah, that was a really ugly sentiment to express. Ignorance and malice in one neat package.

Yeah, this just seems way ignorant of Matt and what he's doing. I took his comments this way, more or less: The place things are happening the the D&D community are not in the old places (like forums), but in the new places (social media, YouTube, Twitch). He wasn't saying good or bad, except to the extent that those in the old places don't recognize it (the "new grognards"). He acknowledges no longer really ...

I for one know who streams what and I have a Twitter account. I'm not an old man screaming at the clouds like he's trying to portray us to be, nor am I an idiot unable to understand that his Kickstarter worked because of his YouTube following. That was uncalled for. I don't know where the hostility is coming from. I thought a load of us backed his Kickstarter? I did. He didn't seem to dislike us this much four weeks ago. What hostility? Maybe you and I didn't read the same thing. Here's the link again in case you missed it: https://www.mcdmproductions.com/news/2018/3/12/the-end-of-the-beginning

  • 08:28 PM - FlyingChihuahua quoted Corrosive in post Are We Looking At A New RPG Kickstarter Record?
That's not what he's saying. He's throwing around insults like "grognard", "wrong side of history", we don't know the difference between YouTube and Twitch or how to use Twitter, and we can't "fathom what's going on", despite his explanations, that his Kickstarter was succesful because of his YouTube following. It was a weird driveby assault in the middle of otherwise nice post. I don't get it. The man just made $2,000,000. He should be happy. I was happy for him. It might just be the difference between me and you, but I don't really see anything truly insulting in his post. He's just saying that the community here is a lot more old-school than the community he is now a part of.

I don't think Matt Colville likes us very much. https://www.mcdmproductions.com/news/2018/3/12/the-end-of-the-beginning He's not wrong. I've been echoing his sentiments for the past year or so. There's still a lot of people who assume we're the baseline D&D fanbase. We're representative of gamers. Who assume forums are relevant. The only bit I raise an eyebrow at is: Some people try to frame the discussion in terms of Streaming. The Rise of the Streamer. None of these people know who streams what, so they assume I am a popular streamer. Some of them know Im not but in their minds, being on YouTube and being on Twitch is the same thing. I think it's splitting hairs to distinguish between "YouTube Personality" and "Streaming". Yeah, when having a discussion solely about live stream games, YouTube isn't as relevant. However, many livestream games end up on YouTube. Geek and Sundry posts many of their games on that platform. The livestream Star Trek game I play in is hosted ...

I don't think Matt Colville likes us very much. https://www.mcdmproductions.com/news/2018/3/12/the-end-of-the-beginning He kind of sees places like these as Old Man Yells at Cloud. He interacts through Reddit, Twitter, Twitch, and youtube. Dedicated forums are kind of an old school idea now.

  • 04:21 PM - dmccoy1693 quoted Corrosive in post [JBE] What Should We Work On Next for 5e?
It worries me when I see companies without a clear idea of what they want to publish. Its not so much a lack of clear idea of what we want to publish; its more a questions of where should be go first. Ultimately our goal is to make all of the options listed in the poll as separate PDFs and then when it is all done put it together into a PHB2 type book. However, if say "new subraces for existing PHB races" doesn't receive many votes, we won't prioritize it and maybe we'll use that time to make more spells (if spells receives more votes). Not to mention, you never know what you learn when you ask for people's opinions.

  • 08:19 PM - Prakriti quoted Corrosive in post How many C&Ds has WotC issued for 5E?
Curious really. I suspet they're all for character creator and other automated software or apps. At least the ones I can recall are. Is that the case? Someone was combining all the Unearthed Arcana playtests into a single .pdf and formatting them similar to the PBH before they received a DMCA. Too bad, because it was a beautiful .pdf, fully illustrated and everything. https://www.reddit.com/r/UnearthedArcana/comments/5twz0b/codex_unearthed_arcana/ded9jjk/

  • 11:55 PM - Mirtek quoted Corrosive in post Rants Regarding the Corporate Castration of our Beloved Hobby
We earn more than anybody else in the Western world, Some of the tiny western european states (e.g. Switzerland and Luxembourg) don't agree with that statement at all.
  • 11:24 PM - MechaPilot quoted Corrosive in post Rants Regarding the Corporate Castration of our Beloved Hobby
Wait, what? You think were poor? Compared to Mexico? I did not say that. I said that basic necessities cost more here. Most Americans have incomes high enough to be the envy of people in other parts of the world. That's certainly true. However, our expenses are not priced at the same amounts that theirs are. Yes, a minimum wage American earns enough that many people in the world would love to earn that much. But, those same minimum wage Americans have to pay vastly more for transportation, housing, health care, etc. than people do in other parts of the world. Very many Americans, despite how appealing their income is to people in other parts of the world, are left with little to no disposable income after you subtract the cost of necessary expenses.
  • 11:00 PM - MechaPilot quoted Corrosive in post Rants Regarding the Corporate Castration of our Beloved Hobby
Yeah, the United States is well know for not being the richest, most affluent country on the planet. I mean, we only have90% of the worlds wealth! Its tough going. It's not as if each person in the US has an equal share of that 90%. Most of it's concentrated in a small fraction of the US population. Also, basic necessities tend to cost more here. So, it's not as if we make US incomes and pay expenses at prices found in Mexico (or elsewhere).

  • 02:33 AM - Elfcrusher quoted Corrosive in post The Actual Table of Contents for Xanathar's Guide to Everything
It's perfectly rational. If you're measuring whether specific elements are growing the overall population, you can't test the alternatives secretly, by definition. And if you're not controlling for alternatives, the best you can get is a correlation, not a causation. The statement "core +1 is growing the player base" cannot be logically made. The closest valid statement is "we've been using core +1 and the player base is growing". I agree that, given those assumptions, the conclusion is logical. If their only evidence is the AL numbers, then yeah. But what none of us know is what the "evidence" of which they speak is.

  • 07:04 PM - Tony Vargas quoted Corrosive in post Is there beef between Mearls and Cook?
Is there beef between Mearls and Cook? Beef comes from cows, and there could certainly have been some Sacred Cows involved... Timeline, IIRC. Correct me if I'm wrong. - Cook returns to WotC in 2011 as lead designer on D&D 5E - Cook leaves WotC in 2012 citing creative differences I wonder what would have happened if Cook hadn't left. Seems there was some creative conflict there.I vaguely remember Cook pulling some gaffe or other in L&L leading into or early in the Next playtest cycle... and not sticking around long thereafter. Cook was a major contributor to 3e, so a 5e with him as lead designer may have been even more 3.x/PF-like. Though, presumably, without the option bloat and player-'Entitlement'-over-DM-Empowerment.
