Mei Ying hands over the silver to the shopkeeper, a little melancholy about the hard choices she had to make. On the one hand, it seemed wrong to deny this merchant the value of his wares. On the other, she'd need ink, and was running precariously low on coin. She was down to her last bottle now...having two would be a valuable safety margin. She would make it up to the man later, Mei decided....

Sounds good. I have tried in other games to keep a "Missions" log of what we have to do, as I've found in PBP that I forget! Hopefully we can do something like that to keep track of side quests and main mission a little better?

"Where is your shaman, orc?" "You're talking to her, outsider." - she answers with no pride or spite. "You are indeed strangers. Such interesting stories you should have..." - she studies the arrivals with her ears and nose, leaving her blanl, useless eyes to wander. "We come from outside of this mountain, and have traveled through this place to seek it's leaders to open communications long cut off in hopes that both sides can become better." "Outside, you say?" - the information seems to pique her interest. "Ah, but you must tell me your stories, then! Tell me who do you seek, and I may be able to help you, yet!" - she smiles a half-toothless smile, fanged where the teeth remain, still. The others simply wait, Gargan and rookie standing aside. @Neurotic @Greenmtn @Shayuri @JustinCase

...amma Kith, it's Gargan! And I bring visitors!" For a few moments, only silence covers the area, bur the mongrels ears and noses are agitated, as if something stirred within darkness. It's small at first: the waters produce the faintest waves, chocking against stone. Silently, a body rises from the fetid lake, covered in murky waters at fist, but relinquishing the wetness as it walks out. The creature is around five feet tall. Her features aren't strange - she resembles an old orc woman. Covered in reptile skins and chitinous adornments, she glances around, her eyes as worthless as the others'. Still, she appears to be seeing. The creature's face is long and old, with a huge nose, crowned by a black wart. She leans on a finely-made staff, hiding her ugly visage under the peculiar hood. "So.... Visitors we have..... *grunt*... Aand... How did they come here?" - she asks pragmatically. Gargan simply steps aside, alowing the arrivals to do the talking. @Neurotic @Shayuri @Greenmtn @JustinCase

...arfik's mind, though, for they're another stain in the Teraphim's past: these ones were members of the many races lodged around Mount Amberilan - orcs, goblins, dwarves - once regular creatures, but lost to Teraphim experimentation. They're the failed mutations that were discarded in the Teraphim's incessant search for racial superiority... "Are you friend or prey?" The creature laughs languidly. "Right now I'm your best friend, sand dragon! Soon the dead will return. You shouldn't stay here. If you follow me, I'll lead you somewhere safe. But we cannot stay here. You killed their sentries. Their souls will return to the dead city, warn the others of how many are here, and they'll send the heavy troopers after you." - his gestures invite the heroes back to the room he just left. "You might be stronger than the dead... But their numbers alone can compensate that..." - he smiles a wicked smile, as if dreadful memories of battle pervaded his mind. ...ll out spirits from the depths. On the other hand, the cave beyond seems almost like a lair. The creatures, standing still like statues under the light, produce the softest of sounds. Aanzu's able to discern the exchanges as a whispered speech. Here and there, words are quickly exchanged. The creatures aske each other about what has been going on in the cave the heroes now occupy! No doubt they caught wind of the conflict, considering all the noise. After short deliberation, one of them moves forward, attempting to keep a silent pace with remarkable skill! the mongrel moves on all-fours, like a crouching thief in the night, but Aanzu can follow his movement with his gaze. A second one follows, just as silent, and then a third one, keeping distance between each other, but whispering constantly. Their eyes are empty, inert and useless, but the large ears are enough to allow sound to reach them from a good distance. Soon enough they'll be within range, noticing the heroes! [Ok, JustinCase and Neurotic, the answer to both your questions is yes: both eagle totem feature and darkvision can give more info, as long as you shift position a little - something easily accomplished now. I need Thulwar and Aanzu to give me a regular perception test each, though.] EVERYONE The room's taken by the sounds of the heavy exoskeleton moving towards the group. A little later, the machine stops, and Ajax jumps down, closely followed by Lyllie. "How do your people look back on the crimes of your ancestors?" Harfik seems to collected his words carefully chosen. "Pragmatically." - Ajax answers bluntly. "We couldn't undo our own mistakes. So we fought the guilty. Some insisted in using people as lab rats..." - he leans before the small passage while he talks - "...while others took responsibility and decided to take care of the survivors. The undead, though... Nothing can be done about them, now. Nothing that I know of, at least..." - he seems to lament their situation for a s...

.... Even after the body breaks, the soul lingers! It might even find a new host, either through possession or through necromantic rituals - should they know them, of course... Lyllie and Ajax approach the group, glancing at the unfortunate body, eaten away by the bugs. The small creatures have taken a symbiotic bond with the undead - a painful, yet useful, relationship. The small scarabs are said to have been brought up from the lower layers of Mount Amberilan. No one knows how they were tamed, though... The room's still thrown in darkness. Only the small passage, which the undead planned to use, is visible from here. Nonetheless, dark vision reveals another passage, fifteen feet to the right. This second way out seems to be a gallery that leads to another room. Beyond, only silence. [Ok, you have the small passage and a gallery to another room. Remember that most of this room is thrown in darkness. More might be revealed, if you are inclined to explore.] Neurotic Shayuri JustinCase Greenmtn

EVERYONE [First things first: @Shayuri, @JustinCase and @Greenmtn, could you give me a perception roll each, please? Icosa has advantage on this one, since he's almost exclusively standing watch] "We are NOT The Teraphim, creature! You attacked us, now you reap what you saw. But if you have something to offer us, talk. We are not merciless killers." The creature motions as if spitting, emiting a low, disdainful whisper instead. "You serve a Teraphim. And that's enough for me." - he motions towards the darkness the heroes left behind, where the silent Ajax waits. At least the scout had the common sense to stay behind, lest he anger the prisoner even more. "We have nothing to offer a monster's servant. Kill me. Kill me now! Gods know it makes no difference." - he chuckles within Aanzu's grasp, and only after a few seconds everyone realizes he's laughing. The lack of flesh on his features makes reading his reactions a lot harder. "How many little bugs are still crawling around?" the dragonborn asks in a low tone, after Thulwar has ...

...rns his right shoulder away. The creature howls in pain as Aanzu approaches in flight. His skilled claw dances around and the creature missteps, practically falling into Aanzu's grasp! Lifted, it still struggles, but it seems too hurt and too weakened to obtain any solid results.... His light body is no nuisance to the dragon prince as well. It seems the creature will need a good amount of effort - and luck - to flee from ots captors. The undead snarls and protests, shaking its body in a desperate attempt to escape. The fires that animate the body rise through several cuts on the chest, as well as the chunk missing from his shoulder. The right arm is useless now, hanging from the open bruise, where a mass of burned bones twist against the living green display. "Aaah, you've bested me, Teraphim..." - an old, resigned voice comes from the increasingly still undead. "And what do I owe you for my precious life?" - his snark tone does not attempt to hide his cynicism. Neurotic Greenmtn JustinCase Shayuri [Yup, that was a new round! EVERYONE The heroes close in on the fugitive. The undead turns over his shoulder, grasping the aproximation of his foes just as he approaches the wall on the opposite side of the room. There, near the floor, a small opening has been carved. Clearly, he intends to jump in, fleeing from the hall! The heroes still have one last chance to stop him, but should they fail, the creature will most likely slide through the small path - and into the unknown darkness beyond! [Ok, you have one shot to stop him! You can tackle, freeze, attack or do whatever you deem best. Some of these rolls will be contested, as you can imagine. The ones capable of stopping him now are Thulwar, Aanzu and Harfik. Go ahead and give me your actions!] Neurotic Shayuri JustinCase Greenmtn

A second salve comes from behind as Lylie shoots a ray of frost towards him! She misses, creating an icy spot on the floor as the undead evades her best efforts! His steps are light and surprisingly fast! Even Harfik, advancing in unnatural leaps, has difficulty following the fugitive! The creature remains ten feet ahead, but still under the monk's gaze! ENEMIES Aanzu's race finishes with an assassin jumping from the shadows. He cries loudly, voicing the same curse uttered against harfik by his peer. The very nature of the words enrages the Blue Dragon, and the spirit shakes within Aanzu's body, uttering stern words in draconian. They're not hard to discern, even though in this state Aanzu can'1t tell if they are his own inner thoughts responding to the curse or the will of the spirit, fending off the darker effects of the enemy's destructive intentions. The blade spins in the assassin's hand. He crouches, dancing, feinting and moving with great speed. He swings once against the Blue Dragon's chest and misses. The second attack returns, though, and this one barely makes it, scratching Aanzu's stomach and bruising his scales. Something is wrong."The bell begins pealing over and over again and now you can hear shouting and screams from outside the tent as Arbold drags his two handlers out the rear of the tent. It's difficult, through the throng of people trying to exit the tent all at once, but you manage to make it out and, there, see flames lighting the cool night air as they lick the tops of several roofs and, just to the east, there are two large groups of creatures that do not appear to be human. As the crowd begins hustling back towards their homes, one of the groups heads into town while the other fires a round of arrows into the crowd. Several people fall amid shouts of pain and anguish. He gestures broadly, as if to encompass the whole of the town, "Come, join us this evening in our celebration of life and he many wonders it holds!" With that, the music begins again and the performers begin their various activities as they begin weaving in and out of the townspeople. Darvo, looks and, apparently, sees Whisper and Milady. Donning a huge smile he walks over to them and says "Well, i must say that I've traveled many leagues and not seen ladies of your quality in many a moon. I certainly hope you two will join us this evening. Or at least me." He gives a elaborate wink and sidles back into the crowds, greeting people and shaking hands. Eventually, after about twenty minutes of this, the group begins heading back north to the large tent they've erected. ...er way, is the master of the place home or is there somewhere else we need to go?” "Caravan? Oh yeah. thats here. come in, I'll tell dad, er, Mr. Corvan you're here." Walking inside reveals a decent sized office with a wooden table piled with parchment and another door, presumably leading to the warehouse itself. After a minute or so wait, a wiry human male enters through the other door. He is roughly 5'5" with short brown hair. The family resemblance to the young lad is clear. His skin is well tanned and he wears a light blue tunic and leather apron similar to the one the boy wore, although this one is much dirtier, and he has a strong odor of sweat about him. He's clearly been working hard already. "Ah. you..." he looks at the group "You must be here for the guard job. Good. We're loading the last two wagons today so they should be ready first thing in the morning. Two silvers a day plus meals. Meals provided as you go, silver payable on delivery to Daggerford. Thanks! I was thinking about several concepts, depending on stat rolls and setting. Are “normal” dwarves okay? How about drow or tieflings? Tiefling and Dwarves are totally fine! Given I'm working with TallIan to bring his character in, if you're keen we could introduce yours at the same time. An opportunity for you both to develop a pre-existing relationship if you wanted, and justify you being in the same place at the same time :-) Send me a PM if this sounds good and we'll open up a three way convo.

Quinn waits for Aureus' question to get answered before he speaks his mind, mainly to mention the demise of Odilos so as to calm the wererats. Aureus stands in between Quinn and Phar, her face quizzical. As they leave the boats Phar has a quiet word with the guard staying at the boat about the scrags and thus finds himself at the very back of the group when they meet Hornauer. He readies a spell as threats are exchanged, but leaves his bow in its quiver. He quickly finds himself lacking too much knowledge to take an active part in the discussion. He fumes silently at the lack of trust shown by these men in not giving him a full briefing. There would be hard words latter of that he would make sure. He sighs as the men discuss the 800 years, these short lived races have so little understanding of the world.. Phar doesn't have to think very long to remember the name, Ash Witch. Her legend was so infamous that it became known not only in the human lands of the Eastern Shores nort of here, but ...

Caerth clears his throat, then starts, uncertainly. "We-- I do not wish to fight," the half-orc says, dropping his spear and crossing his arms in what he hopes is a sign of non-hostility. "We have come to talk to you, concerning another wererat called Odilos. Do you know of him?" The druid hopes Hornauer is ready to talk and not fight. He hasn't quite figured out yet what he'll do if things do escalate, or if he should tell the lycanthrope that the guards intend to capture him. "we" , says Quinn encouragingly to the big druid. There is a long silence before the dire rats move forward, slowly and cautiously. Dozens of other smaller rats join them, coming out of hidden recesses and crevasses. Hornauer steps not out of the doorway, but out...

"I will do my utmost best as I do prefer my guts to stay inside me." says Quinn to Quinton. At the guard's request, Quinn takes the other oar. Quinten chortles with a grin. Caerth merely nods at his mentor as they say goodbye. The half-orc knows that Aeron feels differently about the wererat, and Caerth cannot persuade him. Likewise, he knows that asking for the elder druid’s reasons is pointless, because obviously he needs to experience it firsthand, according to Aeron. Caerth realizes that in his mind, he is starting to move away from being Aeron’s student. This brings a sudden feeling of regret, sadness, and anger. Before the anger, summoned so easily due to his orcish heritage, can take over his mind and actions, Caerth turns awkwardly and moves to the boats. Once aboard, he focuses on the others, not really listening but trying to distract himself from his inner turmoil. Phar takes his place in the boat. He has little to say as his mind is already on the coming encounter w...

Phar smiles at his companion. It is good to see you smile my friend. We feared for you. Phar takes a moment to share what news he has. He speaks diplomatically, not wanted to distress his still viably ill friend with the sadder parts of his tale. "Thanks Phar, and it sounds like you have to go back to that rock without me," Lorien sighs. "You can't wait. Aeron tells me that it will take a day to get to the fort, and I'll like be there for a few days." "We not wait," Aureus replies. "But, we see you when we return here. Right?" "I hope so," Lorien says with a smile. He pauses to think for a moment. "Personally, I don't think Hornauer had anything to do with Lord Ebal's death. You should try to talk to him without Sir Ghal around, if possible." Lorien lays back, obviously tired. "You rest, elf-friend," Aureus says. He nods. "Good luck." What ever happened to this game? Leif's First 5E Homebrew In-Character Thread 1A The four players in that game all still are active here. I suppose that should be the first thing that I do -- see if there is still interest in continuing. Well, I'm looking for a new game, so I'm interested. I like the sandbox setup, but in PbP I think it presents challenges to play without a clear goal. As for characters, I completely agree that the same crunch can be used to create vastly different fluff for different characters. One could even say that everyone is the same class, and see all the diverging concepts that creates! Ok, you might want to watch the thread that jmuchiello mentioned. Please don't post IC until you officially join, but we can discuss in the OOC what you wish to play and how you could be worked in.

Caerth feels.. odd.. at being greeted by name by Sir Ghal. Still unused to social interactions except those with his mentor and, recently, with his companions, the half-orc casts his eyes down, until he realizes he does so. He then looks at the knight and nods firmly. When the young knight talks about capturing the wererat Hornauer, Caerth becomes slightly uncomfortable. He waits until both Aeron and Sir Ghal have finished talking, then clears his throat. After a look at his mentor, who nods assuringly, the young druid says, "We promised the wererat we'd leave him alone. He looks after his rats. He's a lycanthrope, but he seems innocent." Realizing the others may not see things quite the same, Caerth continues quickly, "We should talk with him in his lair instead of showing agression by capturing him. At least, we should try talking first." Sir Ghal stops at the door and turns to speak to Caerth. "While I am willing to let the beastman have a chance to speak first, I cannot let him alone i...

The day before was a long and eventful one and took a bit to get the kinks and knots out of his muscles, but he did so with the practiced discipline of a seasoned warrior. He dons his clothing and armor with his favored weapon clinking against his leg as he moved about. The spiked chain announced his arrival as he moved to the common room to where there was much activity to cause the rumble of voices he heard in his room. He looks about, surveying the mood as he does so, to find Sir Ghal and heads directly toward him. Ghal is easy to find. He is brooding by the fire. He looks rested but troubled. It's not surprising. The young man just lost his father. He sits at a small table with four other chairs. Aureus is already sitting with him, silently. "You are awake," Sir Ghal says when he sees you. "Rosie insisted that I let you all sleep longer than Aeron had planned. He's upstairs attending to Raius and your friend. Young Bellath is awake now, although he's still weak. You friend is still unc...

*looks up Yoon-Suin in Google* That sounds awesome! :) You should buy this book. It's the best D&D supplement I've bought *in my entire life*. The reason I want to do this is two-fold 1: try PbP GMing 2: I want to publish a small adventure and this would be a second playtest. I've never published an adventure before (and I'm not sure I will anyway, there are all sorts of issues...) but this is one step on the process :)

So I am looking for a new PbP game here on ENworld. I had expected to see one pop up in the last month or so, but sadly not. Nobody here bought Waterdeep Dragon Heist and wants to run it? ;) Currently I do not have the time to DM, although I probably will in the future, so I am looking for a DM and fellow players. [roll6] Not very familiar with those travel rules yet. :) No the effects come later in the adventure and gaining Shadow can lead to Shadow-Weakness and a new Condition BUT not yet. Also @Tesseract you need a second Stealth check (also at advantage), plus the Wisdom and Constitution/Athletic save please

Not to discourage Tesseract if you are still interested. I might have the first post for the IC ready later today. A third companion could always join later... Whisper had lost his interest until the young man came to the door, and his eyes light up. The tabaxi slips inside the building right behind the lad, and when Mr Corvan enters the office from the side door, Whisper looks into the other room quickly before the door is shut behind the man.
