Sure, that sounds like safe bet... Unless of course you use the same credentials over multiple sites with, say, Amazon being on that same list. Oh, whoopsydaisy. Anyone who does that deserves to be hacked. So again no worries here.

  • 02:26 PM - daniiren quoted thom_likes_gaming in post Looking for NEW players
I'm clearly missing some context here. (Formerly) 71 players? What's this, and why am I only hearing now about it? Also, where does one sign up, if one were so inclined? This is, unless I'm mistaken, about the West Marches-style game (see original thread here) that I wanted to join at some point but didn't didn't have the time when it started.

Hmm... would you want to be a bit more specific? i was agreeing with you - though I can see how that would be difficult to read - I am now just absorbing how nasty even some on this thread (especially early on - I read back now) have been. and btw the really poor rates of prosecution seems like it is evidence of a failure in our criminal system. We may be over wired to protect the accused. An actual court of law accusation carries potential penalties for perjury but there is none in the court of public opinion. This latter is potentially the only reason to be less convinced by things which are not actually being taken to court.

I try to be careful about judging without knowing all the facts as well, but in this case we hear both sides, thankfully. His replies give the fairly clear impression of someone who just doesn't get it, doesn't respect (women's?) personal boundaries and space and just won't take no for an answer. For Pete's sake, he was hitting on a woman in front of her husband, with witnesses backing this up. Yuck.

  • 03:01 PM - Mythmere1 quoted thom_likes_gaming in post There's A New Online Gaming Store In Town
Unfortunately this one seems still unanswered. As a non-US resident I'm quite interested in the answer there as well. Couldn't find anything regarding shipping on the website either, unfortunately. We will be able to ship from the USA to other countries, but unlike with POD companies like Lulu, we don't have mailing sources outside the USA (Lulu sends print jobs to nearby countries for printing and shipping). So our cost to ship will be basically the same as it would be for regular USA-to-country shipping, which has become a lot more expensive over the last 5 years or so than it once was. Some shippers bundle items together and send them to places that bulk ship them out of the USA at a lower cost, but we've found that the percentage charged by companies like that essentially eliminates the savings on RPG books. I assume that other types of products gain more of an advantage from that kind of shipping. If your only warehouse is in the USA, there really isn't any dramatically better way of handling th...

  • 06:26 PM - RangerWickett quoted thom_likes_gaming in post [Spoilers included] Half WotBS diary, half GM asking questions
Q: Ragesian Empire / Ragesia. Is that the same entity? Or were countries like Dassen, Sindaire or Ostalin part of the empire with the country of Ragesia at it's heart? Not quite. Ragesia was once a country called Morrus that Coaltongue conquered, and from there he expanded to take nations called Latia, Kequalak, and Chathus. They've been part of Ragesia for decades. Dassen and Ostalin are independent. Shahalesti is independent but allied. Sindaire let itself be annexed to avoid a war, but it maintains some independence.

One character rolled ridiculously high on a few stats and plays a half-elf rogue with skill-focus Perception. And that's why you never go with rolling stats, ever...

  • 12:33 AM - MwaO quoted thom_likes_gaming in post Is TOMB OF HORRORS the Worst Adventure Of All Time?
Good gravy... he was 12 years old. How much maturity do you expect? I'd note how he behaved at a convention as a grown up. The story sounds kind of funny until you look closely at it. i.e. just imagine being one of the other players at that table. You've traveled to a convention, spent money to play a slot(and therefore heavily limited your other choices), and some guy tricks you into a TPK 5 minutes into the mod. Sounds if he might have gotten lucky to not get punched again...

Good gravy... he was 12 years old. How much maturity do you expect? Not much but to be a grown man and still hold a grudge against a game module is pathetic. Especially when the blowback against his 12 year old self was due to him being a 12 year old jerk to his only friends. Yet he's acting like the module was what lost him his only friends for a year. I'm sure tons of 12 year old kids back in the day ran it and didn't lose all their friends with a TPK. The whole blog post comes across like he's still suffering from PTSD over it. I hope he gets the help he needs to put this behind him. Are there RPG orientated therapists? Analysts? Maybe an analrapist?
  • 07:41 PM - Celebrim quoted thom_likes_gaming in post Is TOMB OF HORRORS the Worst Adventure Of All Time?
Good gravy... he was 12 years old. How much maturity do you expect? None, or rather, barely more than was displayed in the story. (I'd hope my 12 year olds would do better in such a test.) But he's not 12 any more, and rather than blaming the problems on his 12 year old self, he's persisting in blaming the module. This suggests he's not progressed very far from the story, particularly in light of what he recounts about what he has done since then.

Uuh, looks like I'm not quite too late yet, splendid. As someone working in the business (and by the look of things, you seem to be working 20+ hours 7 days a week all year long....), do you actually get a chance to PLAY stuff? What was the last 2 or 3 games (pen&paper, board games, otherwise) that you played that you were not involved in making? Apologies if that has already been covered. I play games all the time. The last three (non-video/computer) games I played that I wasn't involved with were: Boss Monster 2, Forbidden Island, and King of Tokyo. All very fun.

  • 03:32 AM - Shanna Germain quoted thom_likes_gaming in post AMA with Shanna Germain (author, editor, co-owner of Monte Cook Games, lead designer of No Thank You, Evil!)
Hi Shanna, thank you for doing this AMA, cool stuff. I've always felt that "the RP crowd" in general is not overly sexist / chauvinist. Most of the time, the people I play or work with don't care about the gender of the rest of the group. Is that something you can confirm, both as a player and a creator of games? Thank you! That has been my experience as well. I feel very lucky to be surrounded by players and industry professionals who treat each other as individuals, and not as their gender (or race or sexual orientation, etc.). The other part of that experience for me is that in the event that someone does or says something uncool, someone else will step up and mention why itís uncool and try to educate that person. Which, to me, is part two of really creating an inclusive and safe culture. That being said, I know that other players and industry professionals have had really different experiences than I have, and I donít want to discount those in any way. If I had to guess, Iíd say the...
