Not bad this time around. And nice to see only two of the sub-classes being pet sub-classes, with those two having companion creatures (pets) and the other two sub-classes having "mobile artifices" (not pets), as Jeremy Crawford calls them on Twitter. I chuckled at this particular line from him and wondered whose poor, little feelings it hurt: "If your artificer would like to treat a weapon...

For Fabricate and armor, a full suit of armor is not a single item. It is made of several different items that all have to be put on separately. So you would need to fabricate 10 or 15 or 20 or however many individual pieces are part of that full suit of armor. Yes, one to three weeks per full set of plate armor is still a lot faster, but not nearly so game-breaking, especially when factoring in...

Considering how WotC is carefully handling culture/racial/gender/etc issues right now, I do not think we will ever see a full-blown book on the region unless and until they feel they can walk the line just right in the writing. And I am fine with that. I do not want to see a book full of negative stereotypes and biases.

To further add to this, per the article, any character can still play in any season's adventures, with the restriction that a pre-season 9 character cannot gain story awards or magic item unlocks from season 9+, and a season 9 character can play in season 1-8 content, but again cannot earn story awards or magic item unlocks. Treasure checkpoints, advancement checkpoints, renown, and downtime are...

  • 01:55 PM - dave2008 mentioned Enevhar Aldarion in post New Dragon+ (Feb 2019): Saltmarsh & Greyhawk edition
I use an iPad for my viewing mainly, and in both Firefox and Chrome, the left-hand side of the right pane is cut off; plus, that font is ENORMOUS. I have to scroll right in a column of text (like the editorial in the front) to read the first few characters on the left. In a PDF, I don’t have that problem; on every web page I regularly visit, I don’t have that problem. The only other place I see problems like it is Google Sites, when the panes are not dynamically resized, but fixed widths and heights. I even tried switching between mobile site and desktop site, and it doesn’t change it. Interesting, the only thing I can suggest is following Enevhar Aldarion's suggestion and fill out the survey - hopefully they will get it corrected.

  • 10:46 AM - Lanefan mentioned Enevhar Aldarion in post A Flesh to Stone Creature is Not an Object?
Enevhar Aldarion has this exactly right, as far as I'm concerned. Turned to stone means turned to stone: Rock to Mud will kill you outright, something that can snap bits of you off leaves you without those bits even if you make it back to flesh, and I don't even want to think about what Stone Shape could do to you. :) But, if there's a bright side it's this: stone is pretty much immune to fire*, cold, sonic attacks, gas of any kind, drowning, mental attacks of any kind, and poison; never mind you can exist without air, food or drink for a period of time probably measured in eras. Acid and sledgehammers are probably the only things you'll ever really have to worry about, though lightning is gonna hurt a bit if it hits you. * - though if someone drops you into lava you're likely going to melt before long...

  • 06:54 AM - Demetrios1453 mentioned Enevhar Aldarion in post The New D&D Adventure Is - Tomb of Annihilation!
I asked Mearls on Twitter. He says it's a peninsula. The official product page linked in the post right above yours also refers to Chult as a peninsula, so if it says that on the WotC page, I believe the question to be definitively answered. And I agree with Enevhar Aldarion that the official blurb definitely is an intriguing hook for a campaign...

  • 09:00 AM - pukunui mentioned Enevhar Aldarion in post FR "official" timeline? roll of years?
Enevhar Aldarion and userZynx_name: Yeah, but that's not the question that the OP is asking. He's not asking what the current year in the FR timeline is. He's asking where the names of the years (eg. "Year of the Scarlet Witch") come from. They're not mentioned in the SCAG. The Roll of Years in the 3e FRCS only goes up to 1380, while the one in the 4e FRPG only goes up to 1482. And 5e's SCAG doesn't have a Roll of Years in it. As I've mentioned above, the WotC FR calendar tool includes names for all the years between -700 DR and 1600 DR, but it doesn't say where the names came from. Luckily, the candlekeep thread linked to above appears to have an answer: Ed created the roll of years, but too many years ago, Steven Schend pulled Eric Boyd and a group of other Realms fans together to create names for the next 100 years or so. We were much more prolific than Steven anticipated and thus the current roll.... As an aside, 1492 is the "Year of Three Ships Sailing". Do you suppose those thr...

Wait. You own both? Where'd you get a copy of the hardcover? By which I mean, how do I get a copy? ha... ha... If I get a hardcopy of the physical book, I won't be happy. As half of that book will be reprinting something else. I'll have paid $80 for the book. Even if I get it at Amazon on a sale, I'll have paid more for that book that if I bought it at my FLGS. Not really, as there was a qualifier in there somewhere, that I am not searching for right now, along the lines of if the PDF is popular enough, then a hardcover could be made to go with it. If no one, or few enough people, had bought the PDF, then there would have never been a hardcover at all. Here's the thing... they plan their books 18 months ahead. They already knew that they'd be doing the Eberron book. Okay, they might have had time to make last minute changes, but they probably already had it on the schedule when they released the Wayfinder's Guide, guessing what the response would be. So it wasn't a "theoretical" book. I w...

Yes, the information in the initial release of the PDF would continually get updated or erratad as needed, as with any PDF that a game company sells. The only thing they said for sure that would be added to the PDF is the Artificer class and associated new material needed to play one. So that $20 got you everything in the initial PDF you bought, plus the eventual addition of the Artificer. Nothing more. So hopefully people who bought it did not misunderstand that and expected additional new stuff to be added. Yes, the initial game got patched as needed, as with any game a AAA video game company sales. The only thing they said for sure that would be added was the One Extra Character Skin and new associated material needed to play that one. So that $20 you paid for the Early Access got you everything in the initial game you bought, plus all of the patches and that one single character skin. Nothing more. So hopefully people who bought it did not misunderstand and will still pay the full premium price of ...

Not really, as there was a qualifier in there somewhere, that I am not searching for right now, along the lines of if the PDF is popular enough, then a hardcover could be made to go with it. If no one, or few enough people, had bought the PDF, then there would have never been a hardcover at all. Don't forget that the current page count for the PDF does not even include the pages for the Artificer yet, so that number will grow once everything is finalized. People around here, and in WotC's polls, seem to think that Eberron is more popular than any of those, so not surprised it is first. And some of those other settings will likely follow the same format and the the PDF playtest treatment first and a hardcover added later. Eberron proved this format works, so they will use it again. And they will likely do them in order of profitability, so some old settings will never see the light of day and maybe never be opened on DMs Guild either. I 100% see them doing PDFs for testing and popularit...

Alright, now that we know we are only getting the first circle of Hell detailed in the newly announced books, I expect the other 8 to be opened up on DM's Guild for everyone to publish about. :) It already is: nothing has stopped anyone from doing that for the past several years.

I am guessing you are just being humorous with this or did not do the math. The 2E is set 25 years after the end of The Hobbit, not LotR, so it is still about 40 years before Fellowship even starts. My mistake - I (mis)read too quickly - thought Cubicle 7 was advancing the timeline to 25 after the fall of Sauron (not Smaug). Thanks. Eithah way - I'd like to see a new take on Rhun, Harad, and other distant lands.

Considering how WotC is carefully handling culture/racial/gender/etc issues right now, I do not think we will ever see a full-blown book on the region unless and until they feel they can walk the line just right in the writing. And I am fine with that. I do not want to see a book full of negative stereotypes and biases. Use Xianxia genre conventions to reinvent Kara-Tur while also updating the timeline for 5e to incorporate the Spellplague and the Second Sundering. Or hell, get a Xianxia author to consult or even write the setting, and maybe a series of tie-in novels. If it comes out looking like 三生三世十里桃花/Three Lives, Three Worlds, Ten Miles of Peach Blossoms, you're probably on the right track. A plot idea I have is for Shou Lung to have undergone a dynastic shift some time in the mid-late 1400s DR, with the new dynasty maybe swallowing T'u Lung or Koryo. The last scion of the previous dynasty, who survived and fled to Faerun, would be a majo...

And I am fine with that. I do not want to see a book full of negative stereotypes and biases. They already realised they made mistakes with Tomb of Annihilation, and there is plenty of completely fantastical material they can cover without going anywhere near any political minefields.
  • 07:46 AM - Parmandur quoted Enevhar Aldarion in post Paizo To Make Kingmaker Bestiary... For D&D 5E!
The big problem I have with all these sales charts is that the book industry, and by extension the RPG industry, simply does not share actual numbers of units sold. So a chart showing the top 5, as a random example, could have the product in the #1 spot selling 1 million units, and then #2-5 selling 50k or less each, making their being top 5 actually meaningless. Something like a Roll20 or Fantasy Grounds list of most played games tells me more, since they give percentages for each game played. Plus, considering most everything other D&D 5E is available to buy in PDF, something like the Starfinder core book could have sold only in the thousands for print copies, but maybe the tens or hundreds of thousands in PDF, and I am pretty sure those ICV2 charts only account for sales of physical copies of books. So it could actually be a big seller when everything is factored in, or it could just be the third biggest flea on the elephant's back. True, we only have vague ideas of relative success: I dunn...

  • 10:14 PM - Nagol quoted Enevhar Aldarion in post Season 9 Adventure changes
Well, I guess I am lucky that I do not play with selfish jerks. Perhaps they get to play more than 3-4 times a year? That does tend to put a premium on actually playing usefully.
  • 01:00 PM - Nagol quoted Enevhar Aldarion in post Season 9 Adventure changes
To further add to this, per the article, any character can still play in any season's adventures, with the restriction that a pre-season 9 character cannot gain story awards or magic item unlocks from season 9+, and a season 9 character can play in season 1-8 content, but again cannot earn story awards or magic item unlocks. Treasure checkpoints, advancement checkpoints, renown, and downtime are still earned regardless of what season a character was created for. Otherwise, there are no restrictions on what content you can run your characters through. So yes, you can grab that character that does not match the season being run and help a table out, you just will not get all the rewards they get. I don't want to "help a table out": I want to play and advance my character. If I'm locked out of some awards at one table, I'll likely look for a table where that is not true. If I can't find one where I'm not treated as second class, I'll probably just wander off.

So yes, you can grab that character that does not match the season being run and help a table out, you just will not get all the rewards they get. Here's to completely ignoring the point. 🍺 Who would want to play as some kind of NPC that doesn't get a share in the loot?

I must have missed the initial announcement. Looks like it’s finally about to launch, though, based on what I saw on the D&D FB page this morning.

  • 08:36 PM - Traycor quoted Enevhar Aldarion in post Casting Begins Soon For D&D Movie?
But a film making money is also more than just ticket sales. It is also streaming and on-demand and dvd/bluray sales, etc. Whenever I see talk about whether a movie makes money just on ticket sales, I always wonder about all the post-theatrical release money too. It is in that area that some movies become profitable and even earn sequels because of it, even if some of those sequels are only direct-to-video. These used to be bonus money, but now they are what makes a film profitable. Take Spider-Verse for example, which was considered successful and has already spawned sequels. It cost $90 million, plus a likely $100 million in marketing. So $190 cost, which would require $380 million to break even. World wide it's made $372, which means it just broke even. However, this film is apparently expected to make lots of money off tie-ins (which also defray marketing costs), and all the things you listed above. Sony considered it wildly successful. This might partly be because it was so well received, which...
  • 02:50 PM - robus quoted Enevhar Aldarion in post Casting Begins Soon For D&D Movie?
Really? The forecast just For North America is an opening weekend of about $48 million, on a budget of about $170 million. It will end up making money easily when international ticket sales get added in. That’s excluding marketing costs, but sure we’ll see how it goes.

  • 07:32 PM - Traycor quoted Enevhar Aldarion in post D&D storylines for a movie?
Well, the current official release date is in 2021, either July or November, so that is over two years from now. Even with a high level of CGI use, that is plenty of time to find a director, producer, cast, shooting locations, etc, and still get the movie out on time. The story from Screenrant is quoting an exclusive story from ThatHashtagShow. In the original article they state they want to start filming in late summer/early fall. That's only 3-5 months away. If they expect to start filming in as little as three months, that is a VERY tight timeline. You have to finish the script, design the characters/make-up, costume design, location scout, built sets, work all the schedules, etc, etc, etc, in a tiny amount of time. For a big budget movie that's the equivalent of starting the film tomorrow.

  • 12:35 AM - dwayne quoted Enevhar Aldarion in post GameHole Con Hints At An "As Yet Unannounced Setting" for D&D This Year
No, an Epic is a standard style of Adventurer's League scenario. They span multiple tables, and multiple tiers, all playing through the same adventure at the same time, generally with a winning table chosen from each tier at the end. This is all about getting AL DMs for the convention. Epic is also was used for level above 20 in D&D before some dumb event thing, i really doubt that is what he was talking about here.

  • 09:25 PM - Mistwell quoted Enevhar Aldarion in post Sage Advice Compendium Update 1/30/2019
Wow, I am surprised that no one has yet mentioned Crawford's tweets from earlier today (Monday) where he basically confirms what some of us here said that bonus actions that are triggered by an attack can occur in between the attacks provided by Extra Attacks. Here are a couple of relevant comments: "Summary: the trigger is the attack that's part of the Attack action, not the entire action." "As DM, I allow the bonus action of Shield Master to happen after you make at least one attack with the Attack action, since making one attack fulfills the action's basic definition (PH, 192). If you have Extra Attack, you decide which of the attacks the bonus action follows." I laughed. I am not laughing at you. I am laughing that Crawford tweeted that, and the chaos that's about to happen from it. Thank you for posting it.
