I'm not really sure there is a specific way you're supposed to respond to what I said. You know, I think ultimately I was just waxing contemplative about the uselessness and the bile of edition warring, and about how some who've been through it have repeatedly heard certain inaccurate arguments in tandem such that it's hard to hear one without also hearing the other (even when it may not...

I've seen more of the edition wars than I care to have seen. I've always tried to stay objective when edition war stuff comes up, because I've played and greatly enjoyed every edition of D&D from BECMI to 5e. Each has its own great parts, its own flaws and foibles, and its own missed opportunities. I've also tried my best to stay out of edition war discussions when they come up, because they...

If "what you state must be accomplishable on your turn" is the standard, then it's really just a matter of phrasing your words so that you...

And the 3e PHB says that Extraordinary (Ex) powers can break the laws of physics. That makes them magical, except that the book specifically says they're not. That's what 4e was conveying by saying that martial exploits aren't magic in the traditional sense. They're "magic" in that they break the laws of physics like 3e's Ex powers do, but they aren't magic because the book says they not. ...

Well, the point (at least in XGtE) was that falling takes more time than is available in a single round (if done from a great enough height), and that a character who can fly might reasonably have a chance to resume flying or control their descent before they hit the ground from a great height. But, at a fundamental level, those rules are talking about movement with a set direction and...

Thank you. I usually go with the standard 250 days. Although any increases to HP, HD and Proficiency Modifier are automatic on the first day. I'm also willing to credit days for certain things. For example, if you're proficient in the Arcana skill and MC into Wizard, I'll usually credit the character 50 days to represent their having some existing training in the fundamentals.

The rules do technically allow you to end your turn in the air. XGtE, the section on falling long distances. Whether one chooses to allow jumps beyond existing movement to do the same is certainly a judgement call. But, it's noteworthy that an in-print official source does allow for ending turns in mid-air.

Depends how it's handled. I've never used 5e's MC ability requirements, but I do require finding a trainer, paying said trainer, and taking the time to learn from her to MC. If you can't get in all the training before the next adventure or session, you can get some features of the class based on how far you made it through the training. I agree about there being enough traps, but MCing...

4e's biggest issue with multi-classing right from the book was the power swap feats. If a power is of the same level and on the same refresh cycle (i.e. at-will, encounter, daily) you should've been able to swap them if you pleased because they generally would be balanced for their level and frequency of use. When I DM'd 4e I gave players the power swap feats for free when they took the MC feat...

I object to the Ability Score requirements for Multi-classing. Makes no sense story wise when there's no ability score requirements for being that class from level one. And, all it does is discourage sub-optimal MC choices. I mean, requiring a 13 or 15 in a class' main stat to MC into it just ensures that what you'll get from MC-ing is better than it would be if you did it with a lower stat.

The NPC in question can use one to raise his AC, one to add to his attack roll, one to three of them to add to his damage, or all three at once to impose a lasting injury. I've just started work on some major NPCs for my setting. One of them, uses a momentum system for his special abilities. When he hits he gains one momentum die. If the hit is a critical hit, he gets two. He can have a maximum of three momentum dice. If my PCs run into him, I plan to track his momentum by just placing 1, 2 or 3 dice near where I'm already tracking his HP and other info.

I enjoy Tales for one simple reason: the D&D product I want the most is a book of nothing but dungeon maps (which I can populate as I desire). Creating a dungeon map is one of the most time-consuming aspects of creating an adventure (for me), and I love to have a ton of maps to populate and drop into homemade adventures as I need them. Tales comes closest to that desire.

As for what to do when the PCs don't run away, that's a pickle. And, it's largely dependent on the creature in question. I don't like to kill PCs. I'm not afraid to. Dryad Magic, including Find Familiar, looks fine. Fey Ancestry is fine. Natural Armor needs to have the AC downgraded to a 12 or 13. It should be roughly equivalent to the mage armor spell. Alternately, you can base it on a stat modifier. 10 + Constitution modifier works, and it's roughly equivalent to having an Unarmored Defense ability. Speech of Beast & Leaf looks fine. However,...

No, there's never been a perfectly balanced version of D&D. When debating which edition came the closest, it really depends on how you're defining balance. Depending on the definition one is using, I'd say AD&D 2e and 4e are the most balanced: 2e using the definition of balance where being weaker (or stronger) than other classes in early levels is countered by being stronger (or weaker) than...

Also, high level play is a lot of work for a DM (and a writer of adventures) because of all the magic the PCs are likely to have at their disposal. High level play requires a lot of built-in attrition of magical...

  • 11:34 PM - Eltab quoted AnimeSniper in post Magic Weapons
@Eltab good idea and I just thought what if you had this applied to say a Gauntlet/s that a PC picks up in a second hand armor shop for x-GP and finds out that the fancy filigree /etchings actually alerts them to said monster/creature and deals the +1 to punching... it could be applied to other visible to the wearer parts of their armor A neat idea, but tactically dangerous if the _____ live in the dark and have Darkvision: they will see you - or at least your arms - from a distance. But the surprise on the players' faces the first time it happens to them would be a hoot. (Evil DM grin) A similar and not-dangerous version would be magic gauntlets that get "my fingers are asleep" tingly when insert daytime creature here (ex: tiger) are nearby. Immature players? Underbreeches (part of a suit of armor) that smell like you are having very bad gas when a _____ is nearby. No sound, though. Want to provoke a fight? The Armor of _____-Fighting puts out an odor/aroma like whatever a _____ eats...

  • 10:02 PM - Misfit Toy quoted AnimeSniper in post Magic Weapons
@Misfit Toy I know for one 3.5e D&D campaign that while traveling through a former Dwarven Forge hill/valley the group came across not only the tomes/scrolls on how to make weapons that held the runic spellwork along each weapon and then empowered by a spellcaster to activate the runes and once that was done each the applied would emit light when near the inscribed enemy and when used upon said enemy deal and additional +dice/points to the enemy similar to the favored enemy of the Ranger I think. I like the idea of something similar to favored enemy. I was toying with having it take effect when the first used against an enemy.
  • 04:23 PM - industrygothica quoted AnimeSniper in post I need some ideas for a quick 5e one-shot
Okay so as for the fey crossing lets work that underneath said bridge are several carved stones buried beneath the streams water and muck and when the bridge is crossed upon a certain time of the month/year under a full moon the players are transported into the fey lands. Traveling a ways the players soon come across a village/town situated in a small hilled valley with the inhabited parts sitting behind a log wall. Outside the village town are buildings covered in fungus, vines, and overgrowth... perhaps the players will encounter some crazed wood type fey that tries to kill them and they fight their way to safety of the village. Once inside they could be asked to find out the status of those at a small fort built over the entrance of a mine... x-miners live their... only to find the mine is now overrun with some monsters, kobolds/goblins, and must clear the mine out fro the villagers and free the remaining miners. Deep within the mines lowest level the players eventually find what is causing...

Found this, https://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/melting-temperature-metals-d_860.html, and should prove useful in cross-referencing RAW material Hardness to a similar melting point Does anyone have a guess to the whichever, Amps/Watts, that a medium laser rifle to its mecha and starship cousins would be? Also, Plasma it if anyone knows theoretically how it would be released from the weapon, i.e a teardrop bulb or still connected to rifle until power is cut. Message me if you know I know there was a few sites years ago that discussed the power of star wars lasers and turbo lasers, and I think one that gives some info on some weapons from Babylon 5, which didn't have many lasers, but more plasma weapons, neutron weapons, and the like.. I'll see if I can find some of those sites again.

  • 08:52 AM - Dannyalcatraz quoted AnimeSniper in post Campaign Set in a Magic School
Previous posters have all made good points and suggestion for the whole Magic Academy or Academia of Magic and Sorcery feel that can be achieved from the straight Harry Potter vibe or The Magicians College theme. You could also allow for non-magic character classes to attend special classes with such How to Slay Monster-X with a physical example given at the end where the attendees fight said monster. I know for one slightly similar scenario the magic users of our party had to attend a certification exam of their Magic School and of course all manner of things that those of us with non-magic character classes had to help out of which one was a forgotten series of dungeons beneath the school that we had to clear out I'm thinking of Tyler Marlocke of PS-238, the only kid with no super powers in a school for the children of metahumans. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/PS238

Yeah I am working on the Gravity Accelerated Weapons or GAW systems rules which I feel would probably have a greater increase in their speeds to targeted object so x-multiplier times rolled damage and it could be quite messy for the targets remains... I'll get working some more hear shortly on my notes. Eventually you would have a weapon system that can literally concave armored vehicles inwards and infantry troops to a fine red mist... Sounds interesting. But what you can also do is just make them an alternate to Magnetically Accelerated, so instead of more power, just alternate method.. or maybe more accurate for personal sized weapons?
  • 12:39 PM - kronos182 quoted AnimeSniper in post Mecha Depot - Rambling Thoughts I
Magnetically Accelerated Weapons or MAW utilize magnetic fields to propel a bullet, shell, or shaped munitions at the targeted object. MAW system/munitions also negate/ignore x-hardness of material compounds. MAW systems also cause x-damage multiplied to the rolled damage based upon weapon size. This is due to the increased speed at which the propelled munitions travels being striking the targeted object. What about Gravity accelerated weapons?

Check here http://donjon.bin.sh/ for several random generators which I have used lately Donjon has a load of great generators! I use the 5E ones frequently.

kronos182 what about a Borg Trans Warp Communications Network Array that allows for near instantaneous communications between Cubes and Spheres... Or what about the one Voyager used to contact the Alpha Quadrant That'll be up at some later point.. At the moment I'm mostly doing more common, uncommon, some rare or a few hero units (like the RX-78 Gundam, the PCs might get a hold of a few copies of them, or they might fight along side someone who's got one.) I'm slowly working my way through Star Wars stuff... soo many things to choose from.. I've got a few Star Trek ships in the works.. like the Constellation class, including the alternate universe one.. so someone's PCs might be assigned to one of them or have to rescue Kirk and all of them!

Nice though for an actual Aliens SE version I direct you http://avp.wikia.com/wiki/UA_571-C_Automated_Sentry_Gun That's why I stated "loosely" based on.. maybe more inspired by? I put that together in 3 minutes :P And it uses mostly common parts, so it's something anyone can find easily to set up a basic defense unit. The UA 571-C has better targeting systems, better weapon (smaller and lighter, damage might be lower or similar as I can't remember what damage that size round does off hand), in a much smaller package (better tech). I'll probably do the 571-C at some point. But anyone can use this as a base to work off for their own automated defense gun.

On the team fortress weapons I would probably do the same and as for Sentry Guns simply choose a weapon, M249 or .50 caliber HMG maybe a Minigun and then simply decide whether the new unit is Remote Controlled or Automated with a perceived field of fire sensor or IFF that when it detects movement or non-friendlies it opens fire. That's how I'd do it.. with maybe motion detection sensor added.
  • 01:30 AM - Celebrim quoted AnimeSniper in post Ouch... That looks like it hurts! or OMD Your're Bleeding Out
Question is has anyone played a campaign or house-ruled some guidelines for when the PC or NPC receives massive trauma from an attack or bleeds out over a set time from sound minor or grievous wound... say like the player arm is broken with the bone through the skin or that lovely arrow/bullet that pierced their armor severing a minor or major artery. So any thought on how this would achieved... I ran GURPS for a time, and my 3.X house rules have some GURPS influence. For example, bleeding is a condition, and you are automatically bleeding when your hitpoints are below 0. This is referred to at the table as 'bleeding out'. The whole thing is a bit more complicated than this but the basics are... 1) If you are at 10% of your maximum hit points or less, you are staggered. 2) If you are at 0 hit points or less, you must make a consciousness check (DC 15 Fortitude save) or fall unconscious. You must make a new check every time you take damage. 3) If you are at less than 0 hit points,...

Silly double post... another Star Trek ship. NX-Class The NX-Class was atype of starship created by the United Earth's Starfleet during the mid-22ndcentury, and was the first ship to be constructed with a warp 5 engine. TheNX-class consisted of a habitable saucer module that contained seven decks anda symmetrical warp field governor located just aft of the saucer section, thatregulated the warp field shape, connected via two booms. From the rear of thesebooms, two pylons angled back to the warp nacelles, and the impulse enginesmounted in the ends of the booms. Mounted in a recess on the front of thesaucer is the navigational array, a docking port/airlock are mounted on eachside, while the underside had two launch bays for shuttlepods. Equipped originallywith 6 spatial torpedo launchers, four fore and two aft, several plasma cannonsand three phase cannons, two forward and one aft, the precursors to phasers, and the hull was equipped with polarized hull plating. For recovering shuttlesand other i...

Gun Lance The Gun Lance developed for Power Armor and Mecha Units is a combination firearm/autocannon with an attached lance in lieu of a standard bayonet. When deployed the unit can either fire the weapon or use the lance to pierce the target object. A gun lance eh? Got a link for it? Or just something you thought of?
  • 02:56 AM - kronos182 quoted AnimeSniper in post CORELINE (D20 Modern/D20 BESM Setting).
kronos182 just got done rewatching Gundam Unicorn RE 0096 episode 11 and noticed that several of the Zeon Remnant forces on Earth also had HEAT technology added to one units claws and another two had a falchion/scimitar blade and dagger that they attacked the Feddies with... so just a thought maybe upsize a similar melee weapon using this http://www.d20srd.org/srd/equipment/weapons.htm#weaponSize and add your requisite HEAT tech as additional damage when its activated. So Colossal Falchion at 6d6 plus HEAT of 5d12 and any other like Criticals and whatnot... so your take on this. Well depends on how these blades are 'heated'.. The Heat Hawk of the Zaku 05 deals half its damage as slashing and half fire (the heat component) and also gains the ability to ignore 5 points of hardness due to it being heated. Now.. I have a Heat Sword for people, which the sword itself deals normal damage, and once heated adds 2d6 fire damage, and a knife version only adds 1d6 fire damage. But this version doesn't ha...

@kronos182 just letting you know that I am working out some notes for the following as mentioned in the recent airing of the Gundam Unicorn RE0096 series airing on the Toonami Block Sundays Psycho Frame Substructure The Psycho Frame System and Substructure enables a New Pilot to pilot their mobile suit as if it were an extension of their body. New Type Destroyer The NTD system when activated overwhelms the mechas New Type pilot causing them to relentlessly attack their opposing New Type or Clone New Type pilot Mobile Work Pod The Mobile Work Pod is a single occupancy spherical pod equipped with thrusters and manipulator armatures used to construct many of the pre and post Universal Century orbital structures and colonies. A militarized version exists where a pair of 30 mm to 75 mm auto-loading recoilless cannons or micro missile pods are attached to the pod. There is of course the following WIP's as seen below on the D&D wiki site... feel free to contribute the above post #1302 to it http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Fallout_(D20_Modern_Campaign_Setting) http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Fallout_(5e_Campaign_Setting) Also, kronos182 I love the weapons you included for the Gundam and Zaku Units especially the Beam Saber and the Classic HEAT Hawk Axe Thanks. Just need the time to work on them.
