The best way to make blowdarts cool is yo make cool poisons to deliver with the darts. The PHB says a blowdart does 1 piercing damage, but that seems like kind of a lot for a blowdart. I'd have the darts do no damage, and have them exclusively do damage by delivering poisons.

I also prefer resurrection to have consequences. When a PC is raised in my homebrew setting, there are a number of complications. Firstly, the gods jealously guards the souls they claim. If you want one back, you have to give them one in return. Think of the challenge of a good-aligned party trying to find someone to volunteer for the sacrifice. Secondly, the person who comes back from...

As a player, I've never sat down with the group and hammered out a document given in-game wording to be the party charter. What we usually did was come to a brief oral agreement that monetary treasure be divided into a number of shares equal to 1 + the number of members of the party. The extra share was general party funds for necessary expenses like bribes, group-authorized hirelings, and...

From my experience, Counterspell is mostly a PC resource-burner. It has to be an attractive option to encourage the PCs to use their slots on it, so they have fewer of them when they get to your primary villain.

The PC is using her normal movement speed versus double the movement speed of a pursuer (movement speed + movement speed again for the dash action). If both parties have the same speed (generally 30 feet for a PC), and if the PC's action reduces the pursuer's speed by half, then there's simply no change in the distance between them. The pursuer would have to both be hindered by the fleeing PC...

As a DM, but also as a Player, I think the way you handled that was fine. The orog, who presumably enjoys torturing his prey when he can, took to toying with the ranger when he felt he had the ability to kill him at his leisure. Sounds in-character for a creature like that. The PC escaped, but there was a price for it. That also sounds fine. Choices were made, and those choices had...

The "above info" takes chance out of the equation. It's akin to resolving a Strength contest simply by comparing Strength scores. Not that there's anything wrong with doing so. That seems to be as valid a means of resolving Strength contests as any other. When I run a chase, I divide each participant's speed by 5 feet to get their "speed modifier." I then make the chase a contested roll...

It always slows things down as I then have to work in that player's new character; and often my players are confident enough in their abilities to not have backup characters with them. In a few cases, this is certainly over-confidence on their part. That said, I don't like pulling punches. Choices and actions have consequences; pretending they...

Yeah, pretty much. The telepathic illusion also seems doesn't works as well if the human uses a heavy amount of certain kinds of drugs (such as booze. Or at least it looks that way on the show. Could also have been that the character in question (Quent the hunter) had a strong Will save and the GM gave advantage because of the character's obsession with hunting wolves).

It's a palladium books RPG. The skill checks use percentile dice. The combat system uses opposed rolls, with attacks and dodges each using your combat actions. Your ability to take damage is divided into two pools of points (Hit Points & S.D.C.), and when you lose HPs there's a chance of some lasting penalties. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ninjas_%26_Superspies ...

Expanded crit range only increases your chance of a critical hit by 5%, and then by another 5% when you crit on 18-20. With an 18-20 crit range that's only a 15% chance of getting an additional die of damage. Assuming a 60% hit chance, how does a 15% chance of a crit work out to getting an extra damage die on 60% of your attempted attacks? Say the champion is fighting with a d8 weapon...

Also, the champion fighter is only making two attacks (level 9), and the expanded crit range of the champion isn't a ton of damage (on one average attack, weighted for a 40% chance of missing, even the 18-20 crit range increases damage by only 0.45...

That's fair. I was assuming their default presentation. Naturally, variations from the PHB-presented defaults changes the analysis. You might opt to make the unarmored AC 12 + dex mod + con mod, perhaps with the caveat that they don't have armor proficiencies because they forswear armor because they see their natural armor as superior.

I've had that happen a few times. It's sort of part of the learning curve of making encounters with different editions (and different RPGs). One time I handled it by having the corpse of the big bad transform into a dead changeling, making the players question whether they'd killed the actual big bad or just a minion posing as him. That gave me time to make a new big bad encounter using what...

I've misread the title that way a couple times myself. I just assumed it was a subconscious thing because I fall under the LGBT umbrella.

I've never played in one, and never run one as a DM. Like other posters I've also worked in retail and restaurants, and I have a general dislike for most popular Christmas music. I do like the ones with some Latin parts, but I think that's more of my being a linguaphile than it is about the songs.

Here's some weapons that burn the Heretics with the Emperor's wrath to keep you warm this Christmas (Imperial/Space Marine Plasma guns) Plasma Gun Plasma weapons in the Imperium of man are powerful by dangerous weapons as they are not fully understood. The imperium makes some of the most powerful plasma weapons available, but because of their lack of fully understanding the technology, these...

My group (which may actually be getting back together, it seems) tends to favor combat, so our sessions feature significantly more combat than non-combat. I'd say the mix is about 70/30. That's not my preference, but my players enjoy it. That said, I try to inject as many social and non-combat challenges as I can; the adventure I've been working on for my group has a riddle that must be...

I agree with your sentiment, but I would still call that "shooting down" the character. I just wouldn't be using it in a pejorative sense. If you make a good faith effort to reach a compromise with the player and no compromise can be had, then there's no shame in shooting down that character.

Shoot down? No. Modify? Yes. One of the things I make clear to players when they join my game is that broken combinations can, and probably do, exist straight out of the PHB. If something pops up during play as broken, I will fix it. By that I mean that I'll describe to the player how and why the combination is broken and what I would be inclined to do to fix the problem; and then I'd ask...

No, so far as I know, you can't do that in one round. The pegasus' fly speed is 90 ft. If it dashed, it could move a total of 180 ft. So, at best its movement would allow you to get 170 feet up, drop the grapple target, then come 10 feet back down. That also assumes the pegasus starts its turn adjacent to the grapple target. Also, if you dropped the creature, I'd either allow it a Dex save...

  • 11:34 PM - Eltab quoted AnimeSniper in post Magic Weapons
@Eltab good idea and I just thought what if you had this applied to say a Gauntlet/s that a PC picks up in a second hand armor shop for x-GP and finds out that the fancy filigree /etchings actually alerts them to said monster/creature and deals the +1 to punching... it could be applied to other visible to the wearer parts of their armor A neat idea, but tactically dangerous if the _____ live in the dark and have Darkvision: they will see you - or at least your arms - from a distance. But the surprise on the players' faces the first time it happens to them would be a hoot. (Evil DM grin) A similar and not-dangerous version would be magic gauntlets that get "my fingers are asleep" tingly when insert daytime creature here (ex: tiger) are nearby. Immature players? Underbreeches (part of a suit of armor) that smell like you are having very bad gas when a _____ is nearby. No sound, though. Want to provoke a fight? The Armor of _____-Fighting puts out an odor/aroma like whatever a _____ eats...

  • 10:02 PM - Misfit Toy quoted AnimeSniper in post Magic Weapons
@Misfit Toy I know for one 3.5e D&D campaign that while traveling through a former Dwarven Forge hill/valley the group came across not only the tomes/scrolls on how to make weapons that held the runic spellwork along each weapon and then empowered by a spellcaster to activate the runes and once that was done each the applied would emit light when near the inscribed enemy and when used upon said enemy deal and additional +dice/points to the enemy similar to the favored enemy of the Ranger I think. I like the idea of something similar to favored enemy. I was toying with having it take effect when the first used against an enemy.
  • 04:23 PM - industrygothica quoted AnimeSniper in post I need some ideas for a quick 5e one-shot
Okay so as for the fey crossing lets work that underneath said bridge are several carved stones buried beneath the streams water and muck and when the bridge is crossed upon a certain time of the month/year under a full moon the players are transported into the fey lands. Traveling a ways the players soon come across a village/town situated in a small hilled valley with the inhabited parts sitting behind a log wall. Outside the village town are buildings covered in fungus, vines, and overgrowth... perhaps the players will encounter some crazed wood type fey that tries to kill them and they fight their way to safety of the village. Once inside they could be asked to find out the status of those at a small fort built over the entrance of a mine... x-miners live their... only to find the mine is now overrun with some monsters, kobolds/goblins, and must clear the mine out fro the villagers and free the remaining miners. Deep within the mines lowest level the players eventually find what is causing...

Found this, https://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/melting-temperature-metals-d_860.html, and should prove useful in cross-referencing RAW material Hardness to a similar melting point Does anyone have a guess to the whichever, Amps/Watts, that a medium laser rifle to its mecha and starship cousins would be? Also, Plasma it if anyone knows theoretically how it would be released from the weapon, i.e a teardrop bulb or still connected to rifle until power is cut. Message me if you know I know there was a few sites years ago that discussed the power of star wars lasers and turbo lasers, and I think one that gives some info on some weapons from Babylon 5, which didn't have many lasers, but more plasma weapons, neutron weapons, and the like.. I'll see if I can find some of those sites again.

  • 08:52 AM - Dannyalcatraz quoted AnimeSniper in post Campaign Set in a Magic School
Previous posters have all made good points and suggestion for the whole Magic Academy or Academia of Magic and Sorcery feel that can be achieved from the straight Harry Potter vibe or The Magicians College theme. You could also allow for non-magic character classes to attend special classes with such How to Slay Monster-X with a physical example given at the end where the attendees fight said monster. I know for one slightly similar scenario the magic users of our party had to attend a certification exam of their Magic School and of course all manner of things that those of us with non-magic character classes had to help out of which one was a forgotten series of dungeons beneath the school that we had to clear out I'm thinking of Tyler Marlocke of PS-238, the only kid with no super powers in a school for the children of metahumans. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/PS238

  • 03:58 PM - kronos182 quoted AnimeSniper in post Mecha Depot - Rambling Thoughts I
Yeah I am working on the Gravity Accelerated Weapons or GAW systems rules which I feel would probably have a greater increase in their speeds to targeted object so x-multiplier times rolled damage and it could be quite messy for the targets remains... I'll get working some more hear shortly on my notes. Eventually you would have a weapon system that can literally concave armored vehicles inwards and infantry troops to a fine red mist... Sounds interesting. But what you can also do is just make them an alternate to Magnetically Accelerated, so instead of more power, just alternate method.. or maybe more accurate for personal sized weapons?
  • 12:39 PM - kronos182 quoted AnimeSniper in post Mecha Depot - Rambling Thoughts I
Magnetically Accelerated Weapons or MAW utilize magnetic fields to propel a bullet, shell, or shaped munitions at the targeted object. MAW system/munitions also negate/ignore x-hardness of material compounds. MAW systems also cause x-damage multiplied to the rolled damage based upon weapon size. This is due to the increased speed at which the propelled munitions travels being striking the targeted object. What about Gravity accelerated weapons?

kronos182 what about a Borg Trans Warp Communications Network Array that allows for near instantaneous communications between Cubes and Spheres... Or what about the one Voyager used to contact the Alpha Quadrant That'll be up at some later point.. At the moment I'm mostly doing more common, uncommon, some rare or a few hero units (like the RX-78 Gundam, the PCs might get a hold of a few copies of them, or they might fight along side someone who's got one.) I'm slowly working my way through Star Wars stuff... soo many things to choose from.. I've got a few Star Trek ships in the works.. like the Constellation class, including the alternate universe one.. so someone's PCs might be assigned to one of them or have to rescue Kirk and all of them!

Nice though for an actual Aliens SE version I direct you http://avp.wikia.com/wiki/UA_571-C_Automated_Sentry_Gun That's why I stated "loosely" based on.. maybe more inspired by? I put that together in 3 minutes :P And it uses mostly common parts, so it's something anyone can find easily to set up a basic defense unit. The UA 571-C has better targeting systems, better weapon (smaller and lighter, damage might be lower or similar as I can't remember what damage that size round does off hand), in a much smaller package (better tech). I'll probably do the 571-C at some point. But anyone can use this as a base to work off for their own automated defense gun.

On the team fortress weapons I would probably do the same and as for Sentry Guns simply choose a weapon, M249 or .50 caliber HMG maybe a Minigun and then simply decide whether the new unit is Remote Controlled or Automated with a perceived field of fire sensor or IFF that when it detects movement or non-friendlies it opens fire. That's how I'd do it.. with maybe motion detection sensor added.
  • 01:30 AM - Celebrim quoted AnimeSniper in post Ouch... That looks like it hurts! or OMD Your're Bleeding Out
Question is has anyone played a campaign or house-ruled some guidelines for when the PC or NPC receives massive trauma from an attack or bleeds out over a set time from sound minor or grievous wound... say like the player arm is broken with the bone through the skin or that lovely arrow/bullet that pierced their armor severing a minor or major artery. So any thought on how this would achieved... I ran GURPS for a time, and my 3.X house rules have some GURPS influence. For example, bleeding is a condition, and you are automatically bleeding when your hitpoints are below 0. This is referred to at the table as 'bleeding out'. The whole thing is a bit more complicated than this but the basics are... 1) If you are at 10% of your maximum hit points or less, you are staggered. 2) If you are at 0 hit points or less, you must make a consciousness check (DC 15 Fortitude save) or fall unconscious. You must make a new check every time you take damage. 3) If you are at less than 0 hit points,...

Silly double post... another Star Trek ship. NX-Class The NX-Class was atype of starship created by the United Earth's Starfleet during the mid-22ndcentury, and was the first ship to be constructed with a warp 5 engine. TheNX-class consisted of a habitable saucer module that contained seven decks anda symmetrical warp field governor located just aft of the saucer section, thatregulated the warp field shape, connected via two booms. From the rear of thesebooms, two pylons angled back to the warp nacelles, and the impulse enginesmounted in the ends of the booms. Mounted in a recess on the front of thesaucer is the navigational array, a docking port/airlock are mounted on eachside, while the underside had two launch bays for shuttlepods. Equipped originallywith 6 spatial torpedo launchers, four fore and two aft, several plasma cannonsand three phase cannons, two forward and one aft, the precursors to phasers, and the hull was equipped with polarized hull plating. Gun Lance The Gun Lance developed for Power Armor and Mecha Units is a combination firearm/autocannon with an attached lance in lieu of a standard bayonet. When deployed the unit can either fire the weapon or use the lance to pierce the target object. A gun lance eh? Got a link for it? Or just something you thought of?
  • 02:56 AM - kronos182 quoted AnimeSniper in post CORELINE (D20 Modern/D20 BESM Setting).
kronos182 just got done rewatching Gundam Unicorn RE 0096 episode 11 and noticed that several of the Zeon Remnant forces on Earth also had HEAT technology added to one units claws and another two had a falchion/scimitar blade and dagger that they attacked the Feddies with... so just a thought maybe upsize a similar melee weapon using this http://www.d20srd.org/srd/equipment/weapons.htm#weaponSize and add your requisite HEAT tech as additional damage when its activated. So Colossal Falchion at 6d6 plus HEAT of 5d12 and any other like Criticals and whatnot... so your take on this. Well depends on how these blades are 'heated'.. The Heat Hawk of the Zaku 05 deals half its damage as slashing and half fire (the heat component) and also gains the ability to ignore 5 points of hardness due to it being heated. Now.. I have a Heat Sword for people, which the sword itself deals normal damage, and once heated adds 2d6 fire damage, and a knife version only adds 1d6 fire damage. But this version doesn't ha...

Just need the time to work on them.
