Dren: With each hit, Dren writes a story that will live on for generations. Though unarmed, three of his four attacks land on the massive foe. The third blow in particular seems to really rock the dragon, who roars in frustration. Aremus: Harshang did not expect such kindness or bravery from a tiny human. Seeing you draw your blade, he smiles and turns back to the dragon. Tranio: The chill...

Ordrar: Two of your attacks hit and knock the beast off of Harshnag and to the ground. Dren: None of your blows, as impressive as they may be, manage to connect with the opponent. Aremus: You aim is much better, but you still manage to just miss the foe. Tranio: The dragon is caught off guard by your spell and is suddenly blinded. It roars in anger. seriousmoonlight, as fighter 6 I get an ASI - can I take the feat? Fell Handed (Unearthed Arcana) You master the handaxe, battleaxe, greataxe, warhammer, and maul. You gain the following benefits when using any of them: You gain a +1 bonus to attack rolls you make with the weapon. Whenever you have advantage on a melee attack roll you make with the weapon and hit, you can knock the target prone if the lower of the two d20 rolls would also hit the target. Whenever you have disadvantage on a melee attack roll you make with the weapon, the target takes bludgeoning damage equal to your Strength modifier (minimum of 0) if the attack misses but if the higher of the two d20 rolls would have hit. If you use the Help action to aid an ally's melee attack while you're wielding the weapon, you knock the target's shield aside momentarily. In addition to the ally gaining advantage on the attack roll, the ally gains a +2 bonus to the roll if the target is using a shield.

Ordrar: You hit the now physical target with your missiles. seriousmoonlight, if the target reappeared, I wouldn't waste my last slot...unless you would like to end the fight (speed of play). I would like to change that to physical attack and booming hammer (ignore the surge roll in the next post if she drops from one hit) Ordrar prepares to cast his spell, but as the giant reappears, his grin widens even more and he swings his hammer, once, twice...and finding some reserve of energy third time, smacking into the the giantess and sheathing her into magical bracket just waiting for her to move. I'm happy for Tranio to have cast healing previously (2x CLW?), if that's okay with seriousmoonlight . Otherwise, he can do so right now. I've said this before, but it's worth repeating -- Tranio will always heal another character if they ask him and he has a slot. But he has to be asked.

seriousmoonlight, I'd shoot thunderwave if I can get at least 3 in the blast.

I'd forgotten that Aremus was injured in the last fight. We've been wandering around for awhile, can I have gotten Tranio Kobold Stew to give me a bit of a heal? Looks like I'm down 22 HP. @seriousmoonlight, can he have healed me before we wandered around too far? If not, please heal as soon as you can. Otherwise, IIRC, everyone is still doing pretty well, aren't you all? I think I'm the only one who was beat up, really.

Aremus comes back outside and says "They seemed terribly cowardly. To think, they gave you a magical bag and didn't even achieve what they came for." He shrugs. Cultists. "Maybe they did? The bag may contain poison for the giant. Spying device. It can be divination focus for easier tracking...plenty of stuff that would make taking this dangerous." Ordrar seems a bit paranoid. But then again, this came from highly suspect source, so maybe it's worth investigating. Short time later (after he finished the analysis / short rest): "Team! I'm ready to open the bag! Come down and prepare for trouble?" seriousmoonlight, what are the properties of the bag? When the wizard awakens, I'll ask for identify.

I don't use notifications. I have settings page bookmarked and usually open on the mobile phone. Thus, I swipe to refresh and voila! New posts. I get Mail notifications for quotes, mentions and Xp. seriousmoonlight, Ordrar can call his weapon from wherever. Does he know if that works with extradimensional Spaces? Also, does he know what the bag is? [roll0] EDIT: let's not wait for clarification, we can always change things later :) Ordrar takes "the magic bag" and looks at it suspiciously. "Like I would just toss magical hammer of my ancestors down some unknown bag." grumbles the dwarf as he takes a piece of string and tosses it toward the mouth of the bag. Raising his voice, he adresses the riders "I'm not sure how your master and towers master are related, but we're currently guests of the giant. What's more, I don't really care for it. As I said, you're free to rest your birds here for a spell, but that is all. We're not subjects to either The Count, The King or The Wizard of giants."

To Ordrar, he asked, “Wot’s this stone the giants wanted sae badly? An’ gettin’ t’ Goldenfields by cloud means we be done wi’ our two missions faster an’ c’n be back t’ Nightstone quicker,” he pointed out to the other dwarf. "I don't know why it would be so important. It is a big stone that stood in the center of the town. I know it was special and unlike any stone I've seen before. Here's what I know of its history." [roll0] seriousmoonlight, help?

seriousmoonlight I can't remember if you are allowing feats. What do you (and anyone else) think of Aremus taking "Inspiring Leader" (I think of it more as "Infectious Optimism") - It would mean that with 10 minutes of prep, Aremus could give six of us 7 temporay hit points. That's 42 extra HP for the party, given the right circumstances. I haven't played much with feats, not because I or my DMs don't allow them, just because most of us seem to feel that stat-bumps are usually "better'. I just felt like being different here....

Fistan, Wizard 3 With his flaming sphere illuminating the orcs on the bridge somewhat Fistan could make out their shapes a bit better. He let lose a bolt of fire at the orc his flaming sphere had just burned while shifting his flaming orb slightly to strike another orc. Just checking as on my flaming sphere's secondary effect of causing fire damage to anyone within 5ft at the end of their turn as seriousmoonlight isn't providing feedback in the post. Ordrar: "No, small one. Most silverskins would use you as a toothpick," Harshnag states. *Scoffs* "Ha! This toothpick has been known to knock several teeth out. But I am willing to listen - we already encountered a friendly giant and his not so friendly dragon." Ordrar listens with interest and, despite apparent bravado, he respects giants strength and combat prowess. As proven by him walking slowly around the giant. Always within reach of those great axes, but making the giant reachable in one jump.

Tranio: The ruffians silently eye you. Evening the snake around the candle hisses. It is a tense moment until a bearded man accepts the bottle (which cost 5 copper) and roughly grunts for you to sit. "And which highfalutin god do you worship, paladin?" Tranio pulls up a chair, laughing. "I've never been accused of being a paladin before," he says, pouring himself a shot before putting the bottle back on the table in front of someone else's empty glass. "But yes I'm a priest. I do not ask you to believe in my god. I know you will meet, eventually -- some of you sooner than others." "Call me Tranio. I've only got one night in town. Let's make it a good one."

Moog hide here." The creature doesn't seem threatened by you at all and starts to cry rather large tears down on your head. Carolina rolls her eyes and pretends to vomit.

Everyone levels up! Talk about quick leveling :) "Why people anywhere wage war. There is someone pushing for something that cannot be obtained without violence. Or there is some religious angle as Zephyros indicated. Olthana, I'll tell you what I said to Zephyros. Fly our banner and you will not be attacked by humans, but you need to ward yourself better against intrusion. Go find Zephyros, there is safety in numbers." Ordrar thinks for the moment. "We could use your temple as scouting platform and then bring valuable intelligence to the town. Did you notice any effect of the Nightstone on your dragon?"

"Wait a second, you said your tavern was destroyed? My folks live in Nightstone. Is everything alright there?" "Oh!" says Tranio, caught off guard by the improbability of their meeting. "Oh! Please sit down and join us." He waits for the hairy man to do so, and pushes his drink to the side. Nightstone was attacked by giants, stones thrown into the village, and one of them hit your parents' home and killed them." Tranio looks at the big man, gauges his expression. Sorry, the email notifications for this board are incredibly fickle. It hadn't reported a single post since my last one. I'm posting maps below so everyone can give me a starting location. In regards to reaching the second floor, does anyone have rope? If you have a little over 100 feet then we can say that the rope was tied to Zephyros' bed earlier in the journey. I find that the notices I am getting for this thread (and only this one) do not work, and I constantly need to work my way through to this page. Are others finding that? In any case, we're with you. Tranio has 50' of hemp rope in his explorer's pack.

Response to Ordrar: Zpehyros looks shocked and shakes his head at Ordrar’s accusation. “My standing in the caste has nothing to do with this. I am opposed to the destruction of any life,” he explains. “I begged my master not to attack Nightstone and he ordered my execution! I escaped by the skin of my teeth and am here trying to help you all now.” The old wizard sighs. “I’m afraid many cloud giants lust over artifacts and magic. My former master heard the tales of the mysterious rock in your town square and decided it would be a valuable weapon in the coming wars.” Zephyros clutches his staff. “I have unable to contact them or anyone in the royal court. I fear the worst.“ He steps towards the party. “I saw the bravery you all showed on the bridge. Please, you must warn the people of your world. Tranio: Before the group departs, you meet with the town jeweler. They give you 50 GP with of ruby dust in exhange for the gem. Tranio takes the ruby dust, a substantial amount compared to the size of the gem he hands over, and remembers the prayer book he had once read which told of Another Path. He pockets it, and spends 5gp on a carved stone amulet that the jeweller has, inscribed with a symbol he doesn't recognize. He's ready to travel now. At the first opportunity, Tranio will cast Continual Flame on the amulet (price as per holy symbol), using the ruby dust. He'll keep it wrapped up in his bag in an oilskin. The morning of the departure, he'll not learn Detect Magic, but will go back to the standard spell allocation the next day. He will have it as an extra light source if needed, but will keep it packed away most of the time. I've updated the character sheet as of day 2.

No, it was Tranio and Dren who crossed the bridge first. Carolina and I are armed with ranged weapons, and would be backing them up from behind them. If I am not in melee, then my turn will look like this: Bonus Action: Divine Favour, Attack (The first orc over the bridge): [roll0] for [roll1] damage plus [roll2] radiant. If I am in front in melee, I will instead shoulder my bow and use my action to strap on my shield.

We can run around the rock, shooting down the hall and getting out of the way of the next guy. ...snip... Also, did you not notice that ROOM FULL OF GOBLINS you have to pass by to get to that northern passage?:p I didn't think of a revolving minigun of PC's :D and somehow I missed the chieftain, because seriousmoonlight only mentions him explicitly in his post... But we seem to have at least one of them coming down the corridor now so we'd be fighting the same battle. This is my absolute favorite part of DMing, when players tackle a situation in a completely different way than expected. The unpredictable nature can be a lot of fun unless you're a dwarf in an ogre cave. XD... My favourite part of D&D too, I was hoping it wouldn't become a full strategy debate mid combat (though part of that is my fault for missing the chieftain) it was just meant to be a chance for people to stop me going full Leroy Jenkins.

Generous! :) I'd like more damage for the next part, but keeping the ogress quiet may buy me a round so neck pierce (2d6+3) is for the initial attack
