I have. That's the reason why I've been looking to try my hand at a conversion; I wanted to see if I could save him some time. :pI'm sure he would've appreciated that but I think it's nearly complete. I've handed over spreadsheets for all the racial, origin, and career exploits from NEW and NOW; working on the OLD spreadsheet now.

I was going to have the user specify what skills would be taken into account for calculating defenses. Speaking of which, I wouldn't mind some clarification on the intended rules for MELEE DEFENSE. The section about skills has (use one) in the title. The WRRD states "For MELEE and RANGED DEFENSE, you may use acrobatics, dodging, or foresight." Later on, it says that melee weapon skills can be used for MELEE DEFENSE but not RANGED DEFENSE. This means that a person could use, say, acrobatics OR swords for their MELEE DEFENSE, but not both, correct? Correct. Although obviously they can only use swords when they're using a sword.

You installed Python 3.6.3 before, correct? Try pip3 instead of pip and see if that works. It looks like it's trying to install stuff for the default 2.7 installation that comes with OSX. In the future I hope to be able to build binaries so all of the dependencies are included without anyone having to do anything. I need to get a Mac first, though! I don’t know what any of this words mean. :) I made a guess that you wanted me to put "pip3 instead of "pip" in that line in the Terminal thing? But that wasn't it: Russs-iMac-3:~ russellmorrissey$ sudo easy_install pip3 Password: Searching for pip3 Reading https://pypi.python.org/simple/pip3/ Couldn't find index page for 'pip3' (maybe misspelled?) Scanning index of all packages (this may take a while) Reading https://pypi.python.org/simple/ No local packages or download links found for pip3 error: Could not find suitable distribution for Requirement.parse('pip3') Russs-iMac-3:~ russellmorrissey$ SaveSave

On Mac, you'll want to open the Terminal application. Applications > Utilities > Terminal. That's where you'll type the bit about pip install -U wxPython It didn't like that: Russs-iMac-3:~ russellmorrissey$ pip install -U wxPython -bash: pip: command not found Russs-iMac-3:~ russellmorrissey$

In the future, I'd love to handle all of the boons that exploits can give to skills, money, carrying capacity, weight etc. I chose to keep things simple for now so I wouldn't get trapped in development limbo and never release anything. It's been in the back of my mind, but I don't want to promise anything on that yet! A bubblegum fix would be the ability to set a skill to desired rank in the character edit menu. Not perfect (especially if you would have taken ranks after getting the exploit), but it gets the skill to the character view. I agree in some cases. I could add a prompt afterward to let the user pick what menu to go back to. This is something that would presumably be a nonissue with a GUI. Since I'm starting to see more and more UX issues that are exacerbated by the limited text interface, I may freeze the current interface tweaks so that I can focus on getting a GUI out. Oh, definitely if you're going to work on a GUI, this is less important of an issue. Currently it is mostly an iss...

This is a problem I have as well, but I wouldn't mind some suggestions on how to handle this. If you have the time, could you give me a mock-up output of what would be more clear to you? That would be awesome! Maybe just an asterisk next to careers which are completed with skills and exploits?

Awesome! I think I just understood what you and the errata text meant about the hook. Instead of having an attribute assigned to the hook (say, intuition), if any attribute check is related to the hook, then dice explode. Am I understanding this correctly? That's the one. I think that basically means you don't have to code anything!

Could you run the repair option? That should fix things up. (I also just changed the error message so that it tells the user to run repair in this case.) Bingo! We have liftoff! :)

Ah ha! That makes sense. I've updated the code to account for situations where the user wasn't yet linked to the github repository. This should be the last time you have to grab the code the old, boring way. :) Your assistance is invaluable. I don't have a lot of testers to highlight the bugs yet! ================================= WOIN Character Assistant Launcher ================================= Main menu: 1. Launch WCA 2. Update WCA 3. Repair WCA 0. Exit > 2 WCA could not update properly. If this is caused by edits you have made to the code you can try the repair option. Error message: fatal: Not a git repository (or any of the parent directories): .git Press enter to continue. Another question: you had mentioned that the information in the program was pre-errata. For the most part, it looks like the data I pulled from the WRRD was already updated to reflect the errata (woo-hoo!). Is there something in particular that you found was not up-to-date? I'd love to am...

Hey Morrus, I just pushed out an update that (hopefully) will give more information when errors happen. At your convenience, would you mind grabbing a new copy? This is what I get now: Main menu: 1. Launch WCA 2. Update WCA 3. Repair WCA 0. Exit > 2 WCA could not update properly. If this is caused by edits you have made to the code you can try the repair option STDOUT: b'' STDERR: b'fatal: Not a git repository (or any of the parent directories): .git\n' Press enter to continue. ================================= WOIN Character Assistant Launcher ================================= Main menu: 1. Launch WCA 2. Update WCA 3. Repair WCA 0. Exit > 3 The repair has failed. STDOUT: b'' STDERR: b'fatal: Not a git repository (or any of the parent directories): .git\n' Press enter to continue.

Now that sounds intriguing! What does a combat simulator do? That sounds pretty cool. Is it meant to help track/resolve combat? The plots I posted in the threads on heavy armor and AP/HP rounds were all made using this code. At its core it rolls many thousands of dice to see what happens on the average, but it should be pretty extendable to deal with round-to-round affairs. It currently requires modifications of the code to change the scenario it's simulating, which isn't the most user-friendly of interfaces. Maybe over the up-coming US holidays I'll get around to putting it in a sufficiently-finished state.
