For background thematic sounds, https://tabletopaudio.com/ is pretty great. Incredible, even Tabletop Audio has been my go to for several years now. I can't speak about it more highly. We switched out to a Starfinder campaign (we're back to 5e tonight LOL--I'll let you guess why) and Tabletop was great for science fiction, too. Interesting that it should be mentioned today--I had donated a few months ago, and donated again today. So, I was glad to see someone give it plug! I hope others donate, too, to keep it going (I am not affiliated with the site!).

  • 02:15 AM - Arilyn quoted skinnydwarf in post The "Superstitious Mumbo Jumbo" Of Dice Rolling
Of course dice superstition isn't real. Most gamers know this. But pretending the superstition is real is a fun part of gamer culture. Yes. I like buying cool looking dice, but I swear(even though I know better), that the better looking they are, the more treacherous they roll...

rmcoen: I am sorry for what happened to your elf, but it is a *grim* world of *perilous* adventure. :) I only played the game once, myself, as a teenager. I remember it more fondly, probably because I was an awesome dwarf. I got a bunch of whfrp pdfs recently in a humble bundle, maybe I'll try making a character again. With Fortune points and Fate points no character should die in the first combat. It is actually impossible unless you start with only 1 Fate point and die twice and miss your reroll with a Fortune point. Character creation is interesting. Especially once you start thinking about what your next career might be.

  • 10:29 PM - Tush Hog quoted skinnydwarf in post I'm loving this game!
I've been playing for about a year and love the game. Sadly, my Wizard Thulgar died last session. It was probably for the best, as his negative luck combined with some epically bad rolling on my part (I never rolled so many ones for a character) had caused him to suffer a lot of disfiguration from magic wracking his body. Whenever he touched paper there was a chance it would burn (not good for a wizard with a spellbook), he had wolf ears, and was constantly shivering because he was always cold and could never get warm. The only moments he felt any warmth were when he cast flaming hands upon his enemies... and ran the risk of further corruption. Your suffering brought a smile to my face...is that wrong? :)

$175 for Hollow's Last Hope? Isn't it free as a PDF? You could purchase it and print it a Staples for far less. $175 for a 15 page adventure... I liked the adventure, but I didn't >$10/page like the adventure. It's not about that kind of value. People who will pay that kind of prices, will do it for collecting purposes. Check the prices that some crappy AD&D tournament modules can reach. That said, NK is a really nice store, but for OOP items that are in some demand, it can be rather over-priced. You can often find a much better deal (with patience) on eBay.

  • 07:02 PM - Gold Roger quoted skinnydwarf in post Wandering Monsters: Not-Dragons
THIS. I like the idea that Drakes were created by a breeding program. The Hobgoblins took some dragon eggs and bred new dragons more useful to their purposes. Ones that couldn't fly and escape, and were also dumber and more amenable to training. Sounds like a tribe of hobgoblins that would soon be extinct (annihilated) to me. And not by the drakes if you get my drift.... All of this is so setting dependant. Just looking at my own homebrew, hobgoblins/goblinoids are non-tribal and as human as, say, leucrotta. On the other hand dragons are near extinct and it could take centuries until one catches on and takes revenge for such a blasphemy. I say this just to show an example for a mistake wotc made with 4e (imo, of course), that I fear might be repeated when I read these articles. Of course it's a good thing when the designers put a fair amount of background for monsters and races. But I see this danger of overdoing it, as I consider it was done in 4e. You see, when I buy the MM and read ho...
