FYI smiteworks snuck in some new add-ons without telling us, Darkwoulfe token packs! I can say I commissioned him to do some custom tokens for one of my groups and was really happy with what he did. Great to see more add-on options, and some that I need and within my budget :)

Where would the WOIN ruleset fall on this chart? Umm, I would assume either the numbers were insignificant (<100?) or were grouped into CoreRPG. I don't see an "Other" category. I would assume @smiteworks will have to be the one to give an actual answer and not just a guess.

There's a thread in these forums where I showed some screenshots of the excellent work Smiteworks is doing creating WOIN for FG. I'm on my phone, so can't search for or link to it easily, but it's here. Short version: yes. smiteworks

They have a team working on it. I just deal with Doug Davison, the head honcho over there. He posts here as smiteworks.

Thank you for the feedback smiteworks. It matters. Please proceed in writing the 100,000 lines of code (or probably higher) it takes to support both voice and video integrated into FG. Also, do something better than the little blocks R20 has. I want the option to toggle between really seeing my players (like 80% of screen) when we role play and the actual VTT with the small blocks when we're in combat. Thanks! hahaha

First off, I am absolutely thrilled that you are active here smiteworks. Getting direct input and feedback through a forum like this is simply great. I am also serious when I say I have, in the last month, approached my group to moving over to your software. We are by no means blindly loyal to our current VTT, that we would ignore the vast amount of improvements I have seen since your company acquired FG. I mean that with earnest. Anyone who has followed the product before and after, I'm sure would echo my feelings about just how much it has improved. But I don't want to be overly critical of FG publicly. I think FG is in fact, a great product. I could not play weekly as I currently do without VTTs and I feel just like when Android started to really catch up with the iPhone; competition is what drove innovation. I hope competition between Virtual Tabletop companies will drive all of those with skin in the game to constantly improve and provide us end users with more and more innovation. The only reason I made a comment about the KP/WotC/FG relationsh...

smiteworks I hate to ask this... and it may have been answered and I may have missed it. Is there a release date or the DMG or the two adventures beyond LMoP? How are you handling the EE Players Companion? Are the new race option and spells going to be included with the EE expansion for Fantasy Grounds? Just curious. My group is using Roll20 for now but I think we're ready to jump over! Thanks for the info and thanks for being so responsive on this board!

smiteworks: How modular are the various packs across different settings? For example, I'm currently running a Kingmaker (Pathfinder) game using 5e rules. If you were to have maps, encounters, xp values etc. "keyed" to the Pathfinder system, how much unfurling would need to be done to use the same information with a 5e ruleset?

smiteworks To clarify, do the Complete Class Pack and Complete Monster Pack include the full text of the PHB and MM, respectively? As in, if I buy the Complete Class Pack, am I simply buying the whole PHB, in VTT form?

smiteworks As one can activate the Ultimate edition on Steam, could the "switching DM" Problem be solved by having basically a Steam DM Account with that license and the one that is DMing right now would just login on that and would have access to everything that account has bought? (while the others just use the free version to join)

First, let me join the choir praising smiteworks for his appearance here and his willingness to answer all of our questions! Coming from (and still using) MapTool and 4e, my questions regarding they way spells are implemented are based on experience. In my weekly use as player and DM I find it hard to memorize the border between automated actions and manual ones. We actually toned down our MapTool automation to make it more clear. But of course it feels weird to manually set a status effect and apply the appropriate rules when playing at a computer. Regarding the price one might consider the history of FG. I don't know exactly when it was published, but it has a long history of being continually developed. Compared to MapTool, which has been pretty much dormant for years, this is a big plus IMHO. Plus the fact of licenses being lifetime makes the price much more palpable in this context. Yes, you can do - and many people do so - achieve a lot of these things in MapTool as well, and there are many frameworks around to get you...

smiteworks, quick question for you if you don't mind: is FG going to be able to handle large maps gracefully? Say I want to track all 120 inhabitants of this mile-square cave complex. As a developer, would you say that scenaio is within scope for what you've built FG to handle, or would I run into UI issues around zooming and clutter? For me that is really the killer app, because I really can't do that easily on a tabletop.
  • 05:52 AM - hbarsquared mentioned smiteworks in post FANTASY GROUNDS Virtual Tabletop's D&D License!
...his is for me, but hot damn this is exciting! One, the idea of WotC licensing out to a proven, successful, company. I highly doubt this is in any way exclusive, and this bodes well for licenses for future platforms. Two, although I'm not familiar with VTTs, Fantasy Grounds seems an excellent choice. A user-friendly, professional, high-end option. It looks to have features that most others don't have. Three, with regards to the cost, it makes complete sense to me. FG is in no way required or a necessity - it is a uigh end luxury for online use, and you get what you pay for. Dwarven Forge is an apt analogy. Sure, I'd love physical terrain for my games, but I'm good with a battlemat, just as I don't need a VTT to play online with friends when there's Google Hangout. But for those who want that experience, Dwarven Forge is worth the $100s investment, and I'd say FG is the same. The complaints make no sense to me (especially considering the subscription options...) Four, smiteworks, I applaud you and your company. Your participation here on ENWorld, your willingness to amswer questions and explain, your acceptance of feedback, the quick turnarounds on updates... Some of the best "customer service" I've seen anywhere - I'd be happy buying a license just knowung it's goung to a professional company I now admire. Thank you.

It is possible to compile to tablet, Playstation, Xbox and Web with Unity, but there are other considerations there that would need to be addressed and planned for first. Nothing concrete has been announced on that front. If I can be a bit... humorous.... all we have to do is find out what console system Doug and/or John have I suspect as soon as they have some free time (not until after FGU launches!) they might just put something together for their own use, then share it with the rest of us! Just think Doug & John, you can sit back on your couch with your console on your big screen eating pizza in one hand and your controller in the other while you burn out troll cave, chase off space aliens, or get savage in the weird west!

Nothing concrete has been announced on that front. It would be awesome if I could have a VTT running on a Switch/PS/XBox, if it were also designed to work well with console controllers. If I could sit down and enjoy a remote TTRPG as easily as I can a video game, that would be very attractive.

There are lots of things possible in the future, but the initial launch will feature native 64-bit support for Windows PC, Mac and Linux, hosting games without needing to configure your router to allow port forwarding, improved support for new graphic cards and just a better platform for us adding new features -- such as the enhancements we have added to maps and images. For instance, we were able to add support for animated FX layers with relative ease by incorporating a package available on the Unity Asset Store. It is possible to compile to tablet, Playstation, Xbox and Web with Unity, but there are other considerations there that would need to be addressed and planned for first. Nothing concrete has been announced on that front. For multi-monitor support, I have been running this for a decade already with the current implementation. I use two monitors side-by-side and stretch across those. I sometimes also connect a 2nd instance for players to an additional monitor, TV or projector. If yo...

Yes, that is correct. You won't have any monthly or recurring fees. Backed, then :)
  • 10:07 PM - mach1.9pants quoted smiteworks in post Fantasy Grounds Unity Kickstarter Has Launched
The 1-time licenses for Ultimate are replacements for not paying $10/month. After 15 months, they basically become free to play compared with someone who is still paying the monthly fees. Someone who just bought the Ultimate license outright hasn't yet recouped their value out of it. Therefore, we give them a bigger discount on buying a 1-time license for FGU. Older 1-time licenses should have a minimum of $240 saved value if they bought right before the cut off in Dec 2017 by the time FGU launches this December. Customers who bought when the Ultimate first launched will have saved roughly $810 in monthly fees. We think that is valuing our older customers very well. We still grant those supporters $90 off of the post-Kickstarter list price and essentially put them into a situation where they only have 6 months before they get back into free play mode again. We are not charging anything for DLC enhancements we plan to do or asking anyone to re-buy any content they already bought for FGC. Thank...

2: Another thing we are still finalizing and having shown yet is that you can define LOS, doors and terrain indicators for a tile. Prebuilt tiles will have these preset. That way when you build a map using those tiles, the LOS will be done for you automatically as you build. Are you saying that any map I build you your pre-built tiles will already have LOS settings preconfigured‽ That's huge for me. That may be what get's me to back this. One thing that keeps me from using VTTs when running my games is the extra prep works to get the maps ready. If I can replace dungeonographer with Fantasy Grounds to build my maps with tiles sets and have those maps already have LOS set...wow! Doesn't help with purchased maps, but I suspect for major published adventures, those are already available in FG. Now if only there were integration with RealmWorks...

Yes. I have an example of one like that that I created with an earlier iteration of the software that I plan to re-do with the later versions. One of our FX layers is called Ocean specifically for this intended effect. You could then add an FX layer on top of that to make it rain or to add myst, clouds, etc. Shut up and take my money (and give me your software.)
  • 03:07 AM - epithet quoted smiteworks in post Fantasy Grounds Unity Kickstarter Has Launched
... 4: We think the FX layers are going to be very popular and powerful. ... Will it be possible to have a layer (for example, a ship map) on top of an FX layer (for example, water ripples) that is on top of another graphical layer (like water)? Or will the FX always be on top, making the ship ripple in inappropriate ways?

  • 12:26 AM - aramis erak quoted smiteworks in post Fantasy Grounds Adds Mongoose Traveller (1E) Support
That does look ironic, but it has more to do with issues at SmiteWorks that caused several starts and stops getting the rule set built to a professional level. Mongoose allowed us to build it many, many years earlier but our external developers kept drying up. We are hoping to release a 2E version one day as well. For Call of Cthulhu, we have both a 6E and 7E version available and you can load 6E adventures in 7E and have them automatically converted. I’m not sure if that will work for Traveller or not, but it might be possible. The 2E changes include major overhauls of the skill list; it is much easier to be combat effective in 2E due to reduction in the number of skills for combat use. 1E combatant characters will be short several skill levels (and when a typical character has 4-8 total, losing 2 in the conversion is significant) or will be too good (keeping the levels and combining them into one skill).

  • 04:26 PM - Von Ether quoted smiteworks in post Reload The Savage World Of Deadlands
I love Savage Worlds, but the book itself is rather boring. It's just the rules and rules are pretty boring for most people. For me, what I like is that is forms a central core for a very large list of unique and cool settings. There is... Deadlands (my favorite) Weird Wars II where you might be hunting and fighting werewolves during WWII Sundered Skies where you fly around in galleons as you float between islands in hell Evernight where the the dark elves won and extinguished the sun Necessary Evil where you play the role of super-villains defending the planet after the so-called heroes all fell into a trap and died against the alien invaders Rippers where you rip parts off of victorian age monsters and build tech around it ... and probably a couple dozen others I'm forgetting at the moment Gotta be that guy, the original inspiration for Evernight's villain race was mind flayers, which makes more sense when you think of the horrific way the bad guys feed.

I immensely liked the Dark Elf Trilogy and pretty much everything with Artemis Entreri. The later series where Artemis had to adjust to being an aging human assassin were really pretty good IMO. His reflexes had dulled considerably with age but he was able to make up for it with wisdom that came along with it. Which were those Artemis ones, thanks?

Yep, DSA is The Dark Eye. It gets consistent numbers; however, we had trouble trying to find a community dev to work on making an updated release of the ruleset when they rolled out the English version. We don't see any traffic or chatter about it on our site, so it must be getting organized and talked about completely off of the main FG site.'Das Schwarze Auge' used to be (and probably still is) the most popular RPG in Germany. For most Germans it's what got it all started (although 'Midgard', another German RPG was released at an earlier date, it was much more like a fan release while DSA was released by a major board game publisher and heavily promoted). What I cannot say, is, how many German users there are on Fantasy Grounds.

I believe the numbers may be split across the CoreRPG, MoreCore and PFRPG rulesets. We are getting ready to release an official Starfinder ruleset under the SFRPG name this month, so we'll be able to sample those numbers separately. Also, I noticed that I sent Morrus the wrong table data that was from 2014 or 2015 instead of the ones from 2017. Those numbers should match the chart. I've sent an updated list over so it should be updated at some point. That will be awesome! That's way sooner than I thought Starfinder would be ready!

I feel confident that decades spent as a player and as a DM have helped me to become both a better team player and manager within various commercial business pursuits. I managed to avoid a work-force TPK, leveled up myself and my team and even polymorphed an employee or two and they liked it. :) D&D was the first thing to get me really interested in reading and regular sessions that involved speaking to a group and collaboratively solving problems provided much needed training for my work life. This here is what (IMHO) a Profession GM does for his players, creating the right blend of ease and difficulty to help players train themselves to be better humans. Workplaces will pay a ProGM to do this for employees (I was employed as such for 8+ years) if they have the right environment (Funds for HR:R&D)
