Referral-type registration?

Can we set up a referral-type registration? Kind of like gmail? If you want to get added, have a friend who's already on ENWorld send you a referral, and then you can join by clicking the link.

That ought to stop a lot of the spammers, who are just joining boards at random. (Of course, it'll also stop people who visit ENWorld from other websites...

)

Or how about, when registering, a person has to type in the word that is in an image that is slightly blurry? That is what some boards (e.g., CraigsList) use to stop bots from posting. If you applied that to registration, that should help, right?

We use that already.

And I don't think referral-only is a good thing for EN World.

I installed something this morning that should make comment spamming of the boards a great deal harder to do. More details as I'm cleared to talk about them.
