Odd Question

Hello,
I have an odd question. I've noticed in post that all it says is "Bump". Why do people do that. Is it so thier post goes to the top of the list? That's what I thought when I saw it.

Thanks,
Beldar

That's more or less it. People use it when they want to bring a topic (not necessarily their own) back on top again, but have nothing additional to say. I'd like to add that bumps should not be overdone, especially if the the bumps bring no extra attention to a thread.

Yeah, I've been trying to discourage their bumping of that thread.

OK, doing it once in a thread about bumping is funny. I just hope no one decides to go too far and try that sort of thing more than once.

Some people bump to keep certain popular threads (usually story hours) easy to find when they go quiet for a while. Other times it is because the original poster is looking for advice or an answer to something and nobody has responded to the original poster's satisfaction. Depending on when you post, you may find your post drops off the first page quickly and before you get a good response, in which case it will probably never get noticed, so you bump it back in the hopes of getting a different group of people to read it.
