Behind the scenes of "Report Bad Post"

What happens when someone "reports a post"? Who sees the report? The function gives a space for "Message:" -- what should a reporter say in the message? Should the reporter explain, and at what length, the reason for the report? Who sees the message?

I'm curious of the "mechanics" behind the scenes of reporting a post. What's the best "reporting protocol"?

An explanation of why you reported the post is helpful.

The reported post appears in a hidden forum, along with your message. When a moderator logs in, they check the "reported posts" forum, deal with any there, and post a reply to it so the other mods know it has been handled and what was done. Occasionally, a discussion takes place before anything is done.

Every single one gets looked at, though. Sometimes, of course, we agree that we can't see a problem and take no action.
