ENGS: "The transaction returned a zero amount."

I put the "E.N. Arsenal - Spiked Chain" book into my cart. I went through the PayPal link and told it to pay. It then came back with a screen I've attached below. The book is not listed. I tried to then add it again and it says "The product is already in your bookshelf."

Edit: It was still sitting in my cart, so I bought it by inputting a CC. But I tried PayPal again first and it gave me the same "returned a zero amount" error.

I've been getting the same error as well.
I'm trying to purchase a P&M publisher setup, and using paypal, I get the same "zero transaction" message.

You will want to use the "Opera/Netscape 8.0" paypal link provided if you are having problems. It has to do with cookie settings which, Paypal has assured me, will be corrected in newer versions of the respective browsers in question. THey sent me a guide for getting cookies set up, but I'm unsure how many people will read a lengthy guide - instead I provided the standard "Web site payments" link above the Paypal purchase link.

I'm using Firefox 1.5. Is that considered "Netscape 8.0?"

Not sure, but if your cookie settings are such, it willl return a zero amount. I had a customer with this problem about 2 weeks ago, and while I was on the phone with Paypal, I was also communicating with him "Live" in chat. We found that if he cleared his cookies, he could get through the regular paypal checkout, but that it would return a zero amount. Using the "Netscape 8.0" link that I put up should correct any additional problems.

I had the same problem (IE 6.0, but the cookie settings were probably too strict) and so I bought $20 worth of store credit. Which somehow turned into $19.12 right off the bat. But it worked.

I assume the 88 cents lost was due to paypal fees. It's compensated for by the various discounts and cashbacks I get for being a CS, but it does make it hard to figure out what I am actually being charged.

Paypal tells the ENGS how much was put in, which I guess means they're snagging the fees off the top before telling us. Without being able to reverse-calculate the fees (it depends on payment method, status of the buyers account, etc) we can't really tell exactly how much was put in. The fee would, of course, be one time with a deposit - since they aren't factored in on subsequent purchases.
