Downtime?

Was there down time today?
I've been trying to access the site since 11am Eastern US Time and have only now been able to connect to it, at 223pm Eastern US Time.

I'm not trying to criticize, I'm trying to figure out if the issue was ENworld's or my network's or my internet provider's.

I haven't heard anything of a DDoS attack being launched by EN World. We've had a couple of mysterious http crashes the last couple of days, but there were no strange processes running that I was able to see (not to say that there aren't any!).

Since Spoony hasn't been on, I doubt they would've taken us back online if they felt we were still comprimised, and neither of us did anything to remove any such thing. It looked to me like the co-location host was down, though, when I tried to trace the route.

I got an email from tech support at Cyberstreet*. According to the message the ENWorld server had something called a "root-kit" and was engaged in DOS attacks. At the time the email was sent they expected to have the server back up in a couple of hours. It took a bit longer.

Expect CS to tighten their security for the ENWorld and other servers, which might mean some downtime later on.

*I asked a question of Cyberstreet tech support earlier this month (miscommunication between CS and the Admiral) and somehow I became Cyberstreet's contact for ENWorld. If that's the case, I'm going to need contact information for certain parties (you know who you are) and a raise. 1,000,000% of what I'm getting now should suffice. (I'll explain the gag if you email me. )
