ENWorld and IE7

I usually use Firefox, but now I'm stuck with IE 7 for a while, and everytime I go to a new page or refresh an old page I get a beep and a message about some add-on that needs to be run (QuickTimeCheck Scriptable Object from Apple).

I cannot turn on this add-on, and IE's help says to get rid of the prompt bar I have to change some settings I cannot change. Any advice? Why does every ENWorld page require some Apple QuickTime add-on.

It's the beep is all I really care about. Anyone know how to turn off at least the beep.

The short answer is, if you can't change the settings, then no, you can't stop it.

The slightly longer answer is, even if you could change the settings, you shouldn't, because that will open up your computer to possible security problems.

The information that IE7 gives you basically tells you to simply allow all ActiveX controls, which is a Very Bad Thing to do from a security standpoint. Don't do it.

What you could try, and this is completely untested, is to go to Tools -> Internet Options -> Security, and then choose the "Trusted Sites" option (the green checkmark). Click the Sites button and add www.enworld.org. If that doesn't work, you can turn down the security on the "Trusted Sites" option from Medium to Medium-Low or Low.

Of course, as I said before, if you can't change settings, there's really nothing you can do about it. Give it a try anyway though.

If I recall Michael Morris correctly, they don't. This is a bug on the part of IE7. We have not yet identified what on our pages causes it to trip.

This, along with problems responding to my professional email accounts, has lead me to uninstall IE7. I'll stick with 6 or use Firefox.

As for the "beep" turn off your volume or mute it. Best I got.

For windows I found going into the control panel:
Select "Sounds and Audio Devices"
Select Sounds Tab
In Program events, find Windows Explorer in the dropdown, select "Information Bar"
Change the sound to None

This will take car of the annoying beep ......
