Wide Images

Sometimes people embed W-I-D-E images in threads. Currently, this extends the text of all posts on that page to match the width of the post with the wide image. Lots of side-scrolling ensues. I dislike this.

Would it be possible to either:

1/ Not tie the width of all the OTHER posts to the widest post; or

2/ Allow viewers to "close" a post, so it appears without content -- similar to the old "user blocked, click here to see post" interface?

Couldn't you just resize your browser to "fit to width" (that's what I do)?

I've usually got other windows open beside my browser window.

Sure, I could resize -- but I could also just block people who post images, or AdBlock(tm) the individual images, and both of those solutions are easier. One click vs. dragging a window, then dragging it back when I switch to a less-obnoxious thread.

My browser allows me to resize one window independent of all other open windows. Perhaps you need another browser

For me, no. Not even when I click off my browser's "fit to width" view setting.
