As for the closing, first please be aware that we typically handle these discussions by email. There is a general policy that thread closings are discussed privately.
I'll gladly answer your question, though. OT threads are always potentially shut-down-able at any time at the whim of a moderator. When I logged on, there was a whole mess of them. I closed the ones which were content-free (NOT yours), which applied primarily to one person instead of to a number of people, and which seemed to have had their questions already answered. Yours fell into the latter category thanks to Djeta.
