it is a messageboard after all, we all come to read and enjoy and bicker, shouldn't long or ranty be part of the accepted norm?

is it just the '3 minute break' browser these are for? is it a bandwidth thing?

I like both of these designations. Particularly in combination with the new "preview feature," they're a nice timesaver.

If something is marked as being long and the topic isn't all that interesting to me, I'll usually skip it. If I'm short on time and it looks like something I want to read, then I know I should wait until later.

I often pass over rants as well, unless I have strong feelings about the topic.
